Brightness doesn't work on MSI GT780DX

Hello,
since few month, I can't control the brightness of my screen. I tried to reinstall S-Bar and .Net 4.0 but nothing.. I tried too to contact MSI but they answer " Try to update your bios " , I asked how I can process, no answer since... :(

You still didn't answer my question but I'm assuming it came with Win7 pre-installed. Uninstall S-Bar and .Net 4.0 and reboot.
Install Microsoft.NET Framework 4.5 and reboot. Afterwards install S-Bar 2.0 and reboot again.

Win 7 Brightness doesn't work after graphics update

Hey,
I have a late-2010 MacBook Pro running Bootcamp 4.0 with Windows 7 64-bit. My graphics card is the nVidia GeForce 320m. I looked online recently and found that there was an update available for my graphics card (previously I had the one that comes with bootcamp, which is from 2009 I believe--quite outdated you see). So I installed it, hoping for better DX11 support, etc... It installed fine, but now my display is stuck on 100% brightness, when before I could adjust it with the F1 and F2 keys. When I try using the keys it shows the Apple popup with the slider moving, but the brightness doesn't change. I went into Control Panel > Power Settings and tried adjusting it from there, with no luck. The nVidia Control Panel doesn't have any satisfactory controls to do this either. It must be, of course, that the driver update changed things, but I'm not sure how to rectify the situation. I uninstalled the Apple Driver-Display from Control Panel and then re-installed from the Bootcamp files, but it didn't help. I've heard some talk about Apple Cinema Display, but I'm not sure if that's the same thing as the Display and whether I should be looking for a driver for it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've come to the same conclusion. I tried installing different versions of the driver, but they all introduced some problem or other. It seems the only way to have everything work correctly is to use the old driver they provided. Too bad, really. Especially because I tried installing the Windows 8 preview, and unless the release version has more compatibility (unlikely), it won't work on my MacBook Pro.
For my next computer I'll follow Shootist007's advice and just buy a PC. I haven't been impressed by my mac, and OS X needs a little more work IMO.
Sorry I couldn't provide more help to anyone with the same issue! It seems Apple released this computer with an outdated driver and then abandoned support for it.

Brightness slider doesn't work...happened on both 3GS and iPhone 4, the screen is so dark you could barely see it....how do I fix this???

Try restarting your iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.

My screen had darkened and turning up the brightness doesn't work.

I had my phone in my bikini bottoms, like on the side of them, and i pulled it out and it was covered in sweat. (gross i know) but now the screen won't brighten up no matter what i do. D:

Might have got a little water in.
Try this:
1. Restore the phone via iTunes. Fixes a lot of issues
2. If that doesn't work, keep the phone somewhere warm and dry for a few days to make sure any water is out of it. Then try another restore.
Given that it's minus 9 centigrade here (= about 16 F) I'm struggling a bit with the whole concept of beachwear

Brightness doesn't work in Windows 7 on Mini 210 HD

I've bought a Mini 210 HD a month or two ago, and i promptly removed XP to put Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) on it. This has worked more or less OK, but ever since upgrading i have been unable to use the brightness functions of the lap-top in any way. Not only can i not adjust the brightness with the hot keys, Windows will not dim the screen when i remove it from the mains or leave it to idle, and although i can move the brightness slider in the Power Options control panel, it has no effect. (Currently it is on the lowest setting in Windows, but the hardware is still on maximum brightness.)
I have re-installed the Intel chip-set drivers and the HP keyboard drivers a half-dozen times, these don't seem to be the problem. There is also nothing relevant listed in Windows Update, and there are no problem devices listed in Device Manager.
Is there anything i can do about this?

Alrighty, Here ya go! I had this problem also. Got my HP mini 210HD and put Windows 7 on it right away. Brightness wouldn't change, function keys didn't work, brightness slider did nothing.
Solution:
Make sure you download the graphics drivers from HP's website, not Intel's. The brightness setting won't work with the Intel graphics drivers.
Get "Intel Mobile Graphics Driver for Microsoft Windows 7" from HP's website.

hello Im from mexico and i bought a macbook air 1 month ago and the brightness i too low I cant see anything on the display but I connect another display device by thunderbolt and it works, sometimes the display flicks when the macbook is some 30 minutes on, I adjust the brightness but nothing, i went to the store where I bought it and the said that is the lightback that i need to send a email to the apple and send it, someone has the email where i can ask?

HT3924 Adjusting the brightness doesn't work

This article states "Use the keyboard of the iMac in TDM to adjust display brightness" but this does nothing. It can adjust the sound but the brightness keys don't do anything. The display stays at full brightness.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I figured it out! You can only adjust the brightness if you are logged in on the iMac. So you have to unplug the external card or MacBook, log in, then plug it back in. Then you can adjust the brightness until the screen saver comes on...

F1 and F2 brightness doesn't work on OSX Mavericks.

(Macbook Pro May 2013) (I've already unclicked the System Preferences > Keyboard > Use all F1 F2...)

Keyboard Brightness does not work Automatically

Hi,
I have a new Macbook Pro Retina, 15 inch, Mid 2014 and since the day I opened it, the auto keyboard brightness doesn't work. I've ticked the option to adjust automatically in low light, I've reset the SMC, go into safe mode and it still won't resolve the problem. I always need to manually adjust the brightness. On the other hand, Screen brightness work normally with no problems at all on adjusting itself.
Can anyone help me to resolve this ?

Have you tried holding down the fn key at the same time?
Does the brightness control slider in the Displays pane of System Preferences work on your monitor? In normal operation, the brightness keys actually move this slider too.

MSI R5970-P2D2G Woes: Lockups in 3D Applications + Fan Controt doesn't work.

Yesterday (5/10/10) I received my MSI R5970-P2D2G in the mail. I've been in the market for a HD5970 for quite a while, but living in Latin America it's been next to impossible to get one. I finally managed to get a brand new R5970 through the Amazon marketplace. Anyhow, since the card arrived yesterday I've been trying to get this thing to run properly.
The card locks up mere seconds into any 3D application, roughly when the GPUs reach around 75C. A Furmark multi-GPU stability test will make the card hard lock my system in mere seconds, whereas 3D Mark Vantage actually manages to get through most of GPU Test #1 before hard locking. It usually hard locks somewhere in between the end of GPU Test #1 and the beginning of GPU Test #2. I've only been able to complete the 1-minute Furmark benchmark once. Let's not even get started with trying to play any games. My system just hard locks minutes in.
The other problem I have is fan control. Manual fan control through CCC doesn't work. If I tick the "Manual Fan Control" checkbox and try to move the slider and hit "Apply", the fan immediately jumps to 100% speed regardless of where the slider is. Unchecking "Manual Fan Control" leaves the fan running at 100% for a few minutes before it starts slowing down. MSI's own Afterburner utility doesn't even let me move the fan slider (odd, because it lets me do it on my Diamond HD5870).
My PSU is overqualified to run this card. I've run it through OCCT's 1 hour test with no problems. Same deal with my CPU/RAM overclocks: they've endured hours of Prime95 as well as OCCT with no issues at all. My mobo's BIOS is updated to the last version. I don't think it's a hardware problem.
I've tried:
-Using my old 5870 to uninstall ALL ATI software and drivers, then running CCleaner and Driver Sweeper to get rid of all ATI driver remnants. Shutting off the PC, switching to my R5970, and installing brand new drivers.
-Using a spare drive with a fresh installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bits to try and get the card to run.
-Underclocking the card to see if it ran stable.
-Returning my CPU/RAM to stock values.
-Checking all connectors, trying different PSU connectors, and physically examining the card for any signs of damage.

You can go check it out if you want to find out all the stuff I've tried. About the only thing I haven't tried is flashing the video card BIOS, but there's nothing to flash it too! AFAIK there is only one version of MSI's BIOS for the R5970.
Basically, I'm sort of stuck with a $700 paper weight right now. The few seconds (or minutes) the card manages to run, FPS is sky high and it works like it's supposed to. It always causes a hard lock when GPU temps are nearing 75C though, although I've tried "manually" changing the fan speed to 100% and it still crashes after what seems like a set amount of time. This is all at stock values, mind you. I haven't tried OCing at all. I'm just baffled at the whole thing, as the card is clearly capable of running like it should, it just seems like it can't handle running like it should for more than a few seconds or minutes in some cases. To me, it really seems like the card is borked. Oh yes, the VDDCI Phase #1 sensor doesn't work, reporting a flat 0 on GPU-Z.
Any ideas before I contact the person that helped me buy this card to arrange for a return?

My MSI HD5970 is working like it should, tested it all day.
I used MSI Afterburner and MSI Kombustor to watch the temps on full load, the fan is working and no problems.
(at 65C, 70C, 75C, 80C the fan goes faster, 81C was my max temp on full load)

[Solved]Brightness control doesn`t work anymore

I`ve made my 3rd update of Arch since installation, and... where previous two succeeded, the third one failed. It messed up my system
The problem is, i cannot change brightness any more through my function keys (and since i`m using Openbox as my DE, i cannot change it at all ). The brightness now is so low that i can barely see what i am typing. And it is not only in my Arch, it also messed up Windows and everything else: grub, bootup screen where i can select bios properties - everything. I ran xev and now i see that FN+Right/Left are not detected anymore as brightness keys. It says:

P.S. My notebook is Acer Aspire 7720g with Nvidia 8600M GT. I tried solutions from this topic: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=73889 but none worked for me... The problem is that the system is completely unusable at this point, since i barely see anything on the monitor, and that sucks

I can't see what you did in Arch affecting your windows installation at all. If you try to boot into windows and increase the brightness (since most laptops store the brightness level of the laptop as it was set, on battery, at least my 2 laptops do), does the new brightness level "stick" for all things? If so, the only issue you have is to re-map the function keys properly, and to configure a script or something to increase/decrease lcd brightness. You can make a simple script that echoes a value into your /proc/acpi/video/LCD/brightness file (the file path will vary, so it may be under UVGA or so). If, however, it doesn't increase again, it may very well be a hardware issue, and not a software (since, as I said above, it's highly unlikely that an Arch update has affected Windows in any way).

MSI HD4830 OC - OC still doesn´t work

You should know about this problem, there is already one thread, but i want wo know why this sill doesn´t work.
9.2 with every program overclocking isn´t possible, so with 9.3 and 9.4, too.
I thought with 9.5 the problem will get fixed, but nothing happend with new catalyst 9.5 already on ati/amd server.

I have installed the Catalyst 9.5 driver suite and have a modified bios that sets my Clock speeds to what I wanted (625/1000) stable safe OC imo. Anyway I was stuck using Cat 8.12 Hotfix2 because of the overclock issue not working and after testing with 9.5 my custom clock speeds were indeed working and being reported as 625/1000 in catalyst and GPU-z. So I am unsure if the stock bios is working or not as mentioned I modified mine with RBE+Winflash. But it does work on my MSI R4830-TD1G-OC cards in crossfireX with both overclocking just fine. However when I run DirectX 10-10.1 games CCC crashes nearly every time and recovers but this causes some games to freak out going into window mode or when switching to desktop to show the error unable to switch back to the game in some cases. So I have rolled back to 8.12 hotfix2 until 9.6 gets released and hope that the problem is solved and overclocking still works.

MSI K7N2-L usb 2.0 doesn't work with scanjet 4570c

I have a MSI K7N2-L motherboard with WINXP and SP1 that doesn't work with Scanjet 4570C if I set USB in BIOS to 1.1+2.2. Sometimes it locked up the PC or it showed streaks on the image. It worked just fine if I set to USB 1.1. Does anyone knows this is the problem with the MSI motherboard? I'm sure it was not the Scanjet since it is USB 2.0 supported, and I'd tried another Scanjet and the problem was still the same.

MSI TV Card doesn't work in Windows Server 2003 !!!

Hi All,
I have bought a MSI TV Tuner (TV @nywhere series)
I Installed it on Windows XP and it works properly.
But I Installed it on Windows Server 2003 and noticed that it's not working at all !
It's TV Tuner , however, doesn't work good (It has a weak receiving power). I'm using it as a Radio (MSI Radio). But even the Radio is not working under Windows Server 2003.
I want to know what's the problem ? What Driver should I use ?
I have Installed the same driver in Windows 2003, Because there isn't any Windows 2003-specific driver included in the CD-ROM of this package.
Please guide me what should I do. I need Windows Server 2003 to be my OS. I want to know if this TV Tuner isn't supposed to work on Windows 2003 Server ? It's only desingated for Windows XP and prior ? What's the solution ?

Also I checked the TV Tuner Driver Pages in your site, but I found that you don't have ANY driver for Windows Server 2003
It's exactly the driver I have on MSI CD-ROM. As you can see above, it's telling There's no support for Win2003 !!!

Now you see ? Even in the manufactory you haven't tested and it was not important for this comany if their hardware can or cannot work on Win2003.
Maybe you have designed it especially for Windows XP and prior.
