Brightness issue with Passbook on iPod touch (4th gen) running iOS 6
There's a glitch with Passbook that I'm using with an iPod touch 4G: whenever I open the app, the brightness maxes out, and the auto-brightness doesn't kick in either. The brightness returns to normal when I quit to the home screen or switch to another app. Very annoying and painful in a dim or dark room.
This is actually not a glitch. The reason the iPhone maxes out the brightness when you open passbook is to prevent scanning issues when your coupon or ticket is being scanned. Basically it is preventing you from possibly having to go manually change your brightness because the scanner can't read the dark screen. It seems like a glitch at first but when you think about it, it's genius.

You can enable battery % on ipod touch 4g without jailbreaking it you can use backup bot for itunes. Thats how i enabled it on mine. Step 1: goto http://www.icopybot.com/ibackupbot_setup.exe download and install it if you have windows. Step 2: Next create a backup of your device in iTunes and then CLOSE iTunes (or else you may run into problems later on) do not lock the backup with a password. Step 3: Open iBackupBot. Click the backup you just made Next click "Path" to sort by Path. Step 4: Look for Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist and double click it. On the registration screen that comes up, hit cancel. Step 5: Find <dict> and create a new line after it. Then add this:
<key>SBShowBatteryLevel</key>
<true/>
Step 6: Hit CTRL + S or just the save button at the top left corner of that editor window. Now close the window.
Step 7: Right click that same backup you just edited
Step 8: click restore
Step 9: Done! If you don't see the changes, reboot your iPod.

IPod Touch 4th Gen failed iOS 6.1 update, stuck in recovery mode
Last night I tried to update my iPod Touch 4th gen to iOS 6.1. The update downloaded from iTunes perfectly fine, but as it was installing I got an error message. Now my iPod is stuck in recovery mode and will not start the recovery process. Both the "Devices and Printers" and "Device Manager" in Windows 7 recognize the iPod as being connected and in recovery mode, but iTunes is not showing the prompt that it detects the iPod in recovery mode. I have tried putting the device into DFU mode, uninstalled and reinstalled both iTunes and the Apple Mobile Device driver, all with no success. I won't be home for about 6 hours, so I can't try connecting it to another computer yet. Can anyone please tell me how to fix it?
Yeah, just happened to me too. Third time Apple has ****-canned my iPod by updating the iOS. So tired of having to do this over and over everytime Apple releases an update.

I know it's a tad late, but I recently updated my iPod touch 4th gen to iOS 6 and now it won't play any of my music. It will play Spotify and YouTube just fine, but it won't play my music. It will just skip to the next a d the next and the next after a second or two without any sound. Please help! Thank you.

- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings

This was the scenario:
The first time I updated, it was only my music that was lost.
When I got my music back, I lost my apps.
When I got my apps back, my contacts, notes and photos were lost.
Now I got back everything except for my photos.
(Yes, I restored from backup several times since the first update.)
Do you think if I try restoring from back up, my photos that were taken from my ipod will be restored finally?

You can't seriously believe users would be *that* idiotic, even on a sue-happy country like the US… And while Apple could get sued, it's not like Apple Legal would lose a case like that; for someone to die in the first place *because of the iPod Touch*, first-responders (be them regular bystanders or medical professionals) would have to be stupid enough to believe they could use it to make calls and not try doing that using instead, duh, a regular phone that they would likely be carrying with them anyway, and for Apple to be in the least bit accountable, the interface would have to misdirect them and make them believe they could in the first place.
Except it doesn't. It never did. The iOS interface, on the iPod Touch, has no references whatsoever to calling functions, be they regular or emergency-related. If you tap a phone number detected by smart filters, you can't dial it (I believe you're offered the option to save it on the Address Book, though), and on the lock screen, there is no “Emergency Call” function (nor would there be such a function on the Health ID page, either). So… I fail to see your point.
And you can't seriously believe Apple would risk, on purpose, a lawsuit by the family of someone who, having both an iPhone *and* an iPod Touch (not very likely, I know, but please bear with me) dies because s/he is carrying only the iPod Touch and unwittingly (but understandably) expects *all* Health and the potentially *life-saving* Health ID info to sync across devices via iCloud.
Nope, this is an oversight by Apple devs, and a massive one at that.
P.S.: A massive legal/functional disclaimer, such as “Warning: This device cannot connect to the cellular network. For emergency calls please use an appropriate device” or something along those lines would pretty much exempt them from any legal responsibility, while still enabling a life-saving feature. -

No update is ever forced on you. It's always the user's option to accept and install the update or not, which you apparently did. As John said, there is no supported way to go back to an earlier version of iOS, and that's been the case since the first iOS-based device came out these several years ago. If you want to comment to Apple on the issue, you can do so via their feedback page:

but I don't expect Apple to change, and almost certainly not in the near future. If you search the web, you'll find instructions that may work for downgrading, but you're on your own should any problems arise. For many people it goes without problems, but for some it's reportedly bricked their devices.

Apple ID pops up for no reason on iPod Touch 4th gen on iOS 5.1.1
When I updated to iOS 5.1.1, it fixed every problem I had before. However, it'll ask me to sign into my Apple ID for no reason at all. I checked everything, and there isn't any updates, songs, videos, etc. that needs to be downloaded. What's going on with it?
Black iPod Touch 4th generation 32GBI've had the same problem (iPhone 4s) and I've done multiple searches and tried everything I could find to no avail. However I believe I fixed the issue - here's what I did:
1) Opened iTunes on my PC
2) Clicked the "Store" tab
3) Clicked "Check for Available Downloads..."
iTunes found one available download and proceeded to successfully download the song that was "stuck".
4) Synced my iPhone with iTunes
5) On my iPhone, I opened the iTunes app
6) Click "Purchased"
7) Found the same song that iTunes PC had downloaded and clicked the download button to download again.
Boom, problem fixed! I had tried to do this multiple ways using only my iPhone, but it seemed that I needed to clear the "stuck" download in both locations. Now I have 3 copies of the same song on my phone but as long as that message has gone away I'm a happy camper! -
Updated iPod touch (4th gen) to iOS 6 and iMessage won't work.
This morning I upgraded my 4th generation iPod touch to the new iOS 6, since then everything has worked fine except for iMessage. I went out to a few places with wifi and iMessage worked just fine, got back home and back on my wifi and it no longer worked. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? Apparently my iMessage will only work on every wifi network but my own now since the update. Any ideas are appreciated...I am beyond frustrated at this point.
I have been having the same problem. My iMessage will work every now and then but the majority of the time it does not. I have restored my iPod twice and I am still having the same problem.

Anyways, she wants to download some apps onto her iPod. However, when I go to the App Store on my iPhone and look at Twitter, for example, by "Compatibility" it says "Requires iOS 7.0 or later."
I know that an iPod touch 4th Generation is stuck on iOS 6. Does this mean it would not be able to download and apps like Twitter that say "requires iOS 7 or later"?
I just want to be sure before I purchase.

I can't get the IOS 5 to work for windows Vista. I'm running kaspersky pure 2.0, windows firewall and windows defender. I have turned them all off, I then attach my Ipod 4th gen and I get the "cannot connect to itunes update server". I ran diagnostics in itunes and it tells me I dont have a internet connection. I'm on the internet right now, and I DO have a internet connection, but it tells me Itunes says otherwise. I'm able to send this message on the same pc with internet connection but keep running into this error. I have now read discussiong boards through apple and disabled all my firewalls, still no luck. I was able to update the lates version of itunes, and just waiting to get my ipod updated now, please help me.
On the computer you should be able to go to the network properites. Go to the TCP part and unchec the line that says obtaind DNS automatically and check the one that says use the following. Add the 8.8.8.8 and Google other 8.8.4.4.
