Brightness setting on 2.2

I recently got a replacement 2G iphone as well as updated to 2.2 from 2.1. The brightness setting now is much dimmer than all previous version of iphone os. Auto brightness seems to be malfunctioning in 2.2. The screen does not adjust to a brighter setting when I step into a dark room.
I just want to find out whether it is the OS 2.2 that has a brightness bug or its the replacement 2G itself that has a bad light sensor???

Yes the auto brightness is on. I tried turning off then on again, off reset then on, hard reset. Nothing seem to aliviate the issue. I can put my thumb over the sensor bythe ear piece and the brightness level stay at really dimmed. Then sometimes when there good light, the screen is real bright. Like right now I'm typing this under a 100w flood buld and my screen is way up!?!?
The brigtness adjustment is definitely different on 2.2 vs. al prevous vrsion. I used to be miserly turn my slider at 1/8 way to save batt. But since upgrade to 2.2, I have to be at least 1/3 way up, with the auto brightness on.
I think it's hw issue but jus want to see if other have same issue on 2.2.

  • IPhone 5 Brightness setting changes randomly...

Hi im not sure if this was by design in the new iPhone 5 but my brightness setting randomly changes once in a while and even on one time the setting bar automatically moves by itself...
Is this a hardware or software issue?

Turn off auto-brightness if you do not want it to do this.

  • Brightness setting changes everytime I turn on my powerbook.

Everytime I turn on my powerbook the brightness setting is at a different level. Sometimes it is all the to the dimmest setting and I can't even locate my pointer because my screen is so dark. Is there a way to keep the brightness setting from changes levels?

I have a brand new macbook that is having this problem, and I already have the display setting with the brightness slider all the way to the right, so that's not the problem. This machine is a replacement for an early macbook that went through too many repairs and finally got replaced. I never had this problem on the old one, so I'm baffled. I have installed all updates and I have my settings all the same as on the old machine, so I can't figure out why it's behaving this way. It doesn't happen every time the machine sleeps or restarts, but sometimes when I come back to the machine, I find the brightness is turned all the way down and I have to turn it back up.

  • What brightness setting to use

I am sure this has been answered many times but I could not find it in a search. When using Iphoto to edit, what is a good brightness setting to use? 16 blocks so 8 would be half way.

Where are you seeing the brightness control? In iPhoto 09's Adjust pane there is no brightness control?

  • Display brightness setting doesn't stick on power cycle

The display brightness setting doesn't seem to stick during power cycles on my new 13" i7, it almost always sets itself to full brightness when I turn it on. This isn't really a huge deal but it is kind of a nuisance as I typically keep it around half, why should I be turning it back down every time I boot up???.
I have un-checked the box through settings for adjusting brightness based on ambient light, and made sure it is in fact staying un-checked.
I have also reset PRAM a few times now which seems to provide a temporary fix only. After a day or two it's back to square one again.
Any ideas, or is this a bug that there's currently no fix for?

Hi, I have recently bought GE60-0ND notebook with Win8 preinstalled which I got rid of in a second I got home, reinstalled with my licensed Win7. Half of things didn't work so I flashed the correct firmware. From that point on everything works perfectly, only brightness control is broken. I simply cannot control my monitor's brightness with my special keys nor in power control setup. So I googled.. and some smart guy recommended a bios flash as well. But when I try, it says either "Problem getting flash information" or "Problem getting bios information".
Any thoughts how to get the brightness control work?
Thanks for any kind of advice
Did you switch the BIOS and the EC Firmware to the Windows 7 counterparts?
You may want to ask Svet about that error.

  • What "exactly" does the Brightness setting in Print do?

What "exactly" does the Brightness setting in the Print module do?
I know it's a controversial button, especially now that there are proofing options available. Also, since you're using it "blind" it's impossible to know how much or what it's really doing.
Does anyone know if it's e.g.. the same as going to quick develop and going up on "exposure", or "brightness", or "shadows"... How exactly is it brightening the image, and is +100 a full stop or how is it calibrated?
    Thanks,
    Alan.

    Ooops,
Obviously there is NO brightness control in LR...is the print adjustment similar to an exposure adjustment or more like moving the "shadows" and "whites" adjustments (which if I understand corrrectly, moves tones above or below mid tones, but not highlights or blacks)?

  • What is the default screen brightness setting?

Could someone please tell me what the default screen brightness setting on a Retina Macbook Pro 15" is? Is it 50% when charging and one point less when on battery?
    Thanks in advance!

That isn't really a default setting. It is arbitrary, one system might be different than another at first turn on.
Simple way to tell is wipe your hard drive and reinstall OS X. Whatever the screen brightness is at the completion of the OS X install is the default. Make a record of it.

  • Macbook Pro Brightness Setting

Long time listener, first time caller-
New apeture user here wondering if there is a proper, or exact, monitor brightness setting on my macbook pro I should be using when viewing and adjusting images?
    Thanks,

    Adding to Frank's reply:
The only way to get consistent color is to use a hardware calibrator.
Even with hardware calibration, the MBP screens are not good enough for exacting color work.
If you use a hardware calibrator, you must turn off "→System Preferences→Displays→Display→Automatically adjust brightness ... ".  I recommend Aperture users turn this off even without hardware calibration.
    Also turn off "→System Preferences→Energy Saver→Battery→Slightly dim the display ... ".
If you want to match display and printer outputs, calibrate the monitor brightness to 100 cd/m^2 or less.  I use 85, as that gives me the best match with my printer (Epson 3880), my studio, and my eyes.
The environment in which you edit your images is probably as important as your monitor.  Things to be aware of are: overall luminance, glare, color of ambient light, intrusion of direct light, contrast between display and surround.
Aperture allows you to set the background luminance of the Browser and the Viewer.  Set them to 18% unless you have reason to do otherwise.  "Aperture→Preferences→Appearance→Viewer {Browser} Brightness".
There are many sources on the Web -- search for "color calibration OS X" or "Color calibrated workflow" -- but no one place that I know of that spells it out.
The quick answer -- now that you've got this far  -- is set the brightness to something that appears gray rather than light.  This is probably close to the middle of the available range, and two or three steps lower than you might chose for comfortable viewing.  Implicit in that is that what is best for editing photos is often different from what is best for doing other work on a computer.

  • IMac 20" making noise related to the brightness setting

    Hi guys,
I just bought my imac 2 days ago and it has started to make noise on the night i bought it. But i figured out by tilting the mac forward for few seconds make it disappear.
Then i found out from the forum that it was the inverter and can be reduced by setting the brightness level which works in my case.
Just wondering should i concern about it and send it back to the store to get it fixed or just bear with it and solve the minor problems myself by tilting and making it goes max on the brightness setting?
Note: i found that it goes off after few minutes. Maybe it only happens at start up..
I just dont want to see this new IMac goes into surgery so soon...
    "sigh"..

As a former authorized Apple service tech I agree with your findings. Thirty days ago I bought a 20" iMac (Early 2008) and the buzzing occurs when the iMac is 'cold' (ie: has been off for several hours and doing a cold bootup). Once booted up (to the login screen will do), use the F1 key to drop screen brightness a few notches (I go to 1/2 brightness) and there is the buzzing noise. Obvious. Simple. This noise was initially first noticed when the screen dimmed on its own when not using the iMac for 60-90 seconds or so.
... but once the iMac has been on for a while (say 10 minutes) and is 'warmed up' then I don't get the annoying buzzing noise when decreasing screen brightness.
... so I'd have to say the iMac's display inverter is needing to be replaced (unless it's integrated within the main display assembly module itself at which point the whole display panel needs swapping). Alternatively, this might be a power supply issue too although in my years as a technician any power supply issue (internal in the iMac's design) usually causes other goofy behaviour other than a screen brightness control problem.
So, Apple! You folks monitor these discussion boards. Can someone in the 'official channels' confirm/deny my findings here? Really Apple -- this issue is noted back to the 24" iMac design from 2006 so PLEASE tell us users that you DO have a permanent fix to this and it's being implemented at the production build level!!

  • LCD Brightness Control - Less Bright Setting?

Even on the lowest setting, the Macbook Pro 13" is too bright in dark room.  Is there any way to create an additional lower bright setting?

    E Lung wrote:
I found the 24" iMac is much too bright for office work. It is good for movie viewing but too bright for web browsing and typing in document. The minimum setting is still too bright. I have read thro' the forum that others had the same problem and had to tackle this problem using 3rd party freeware. My colleague's Macbook pro can dim the brightness to zero. Does anyone knows why apple delibrately make it so. Is there any official solution to this say by firmware updates?
The majority of users don't find this to be a problem so I wouldn't be expecting any solution from Apple. A bright screen is desirable for most viewing needs. Third party solutions are there for those who need a dim screen.

  • Brightness Setting bug?

when im using my macbook pro in the dark and i have the "automatically adjust brightness" setting enabled if i manually make the brightness brighter it takes me twice as many button presses to reduce the brightness back...
If i press the INCREASE brightness button twice it highers the brightness by 2/16 bars, now if i try to reduce it by 2 bars i need to press the decrease brightness button 4 times. This only happens if the automatically adjust brightness option is enabled..
Does everyone elses unibody 09 with SL installed do this?
    Thank you for your time
If you need a video let me know.

It has also happened to me, but I've figured out that this only happens when it's absolutely pitch dark in the room. When there's a source of light, the buttons works as they should. Once I turn the lamp off, the buttons start acting weirdly. The problem is that it's not consistent. It's definitive that the buttons work well when there's at least some external light, but without an external light source, sometimes they'll act weird, sometimes they won't, which I'd guess scratches this as some sort of enhancement and classifies it as a small but annoying glitch.
If it'd work consistently, then it wouldn't be a glitch. I still wouldn't like it, but at least i'd know what it's all about. Since it DOESN'T work consistently, Apple should see this.

  • Auto Brightness Setting

When I set auto-brightness to on, does it use my current brightness setting as the maximum or minimum brightness?
Or does it use full auto and my custom brightness level is ignored?

ios 6 messed up auto brightness a little. With AutoBrightness turned ON in IOS5, the phone would adjust brightness almost immediately. Once I, along with many others, updated 4s & 5 to IOS6 it took about a minute for the screen brightness to actually adjust even though I'm sure the phone detects the light level immediately. Give it a shot for yourself and let me know if you don't experience this. To test mine, I went from a well lit room where brightness was high to a completely dark room and right around the 60 sec mark I saw the screen adjust to a little dimmer to match the lower light levels.
Maybe not all phone react this way but I know it's an issue with many.

  • If I run my iPod at the highest brightness setting is it bad?

I have the 3G iPod Touch and I was just wondering if it's bad for the screen the screen to be used at the highest brightness setting. I always have it on a very low setting because im not sure if it's good to have it so high invade the screen quality goes down due to it. Please let me know cuz I feel like I'm over couscous of this minor issue.
    Thanks

Sweet thanks man. I actually don't worry about my battery too much cuz I charge it all the time. But cool now I don't have to strain my eyes to see the screen.
