Bring back colored icons in Lion's side bar!

Where can I complain to Apple about their gutting of icon identifiablity in Lion? I tried the 3rd party fix (Colorful Icons) and it was buggy. I uninstalled it. Too risky on the system level.
Who's the brainiac at Apple who decided that gray standard icons on the sidebar -- and echoed in all applications -- would be an improvement? This new normal is hanging up my productivity. Where do I complain so Apple will hear?

OK. I installed the app both ways, and it was worse on my system than the linked version given to me by a friend: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/apple/three-ways-to-fix-os-x-lions-finder-sidebar/1103 8
This time it corrupted Quark Xpress's Preferences and the program wouldn't open. I had to trash its Preferences and reinstate all of them. Great. When I installed the boot-requiring version of this app Suitcase Fusion detected a conflict (saw it as an old verison of itself) and wouldn't open.
Of the programs that would open, only the Adobe family recognized colorful icons. Microsoft programs did not. I'm running the latest update of everything on Lion 10.7.4.
So I uninstalled  this app and made sure manually that all is out.
I summation: not successful, to say the least.
Apple should address this issue, NOT a third party. Are they even listening?

  • Bring back colored icons!

Love the new iTunes 10 - except the monotone gray icon buttons on the far left side. So much harder to read - there is a reason color icons were a vast improvement over B&W when they were first introduced in the 1980's.
I feel like this is a retro step backwards for no good reason at all.
Bring back the color! (how do I post this to the Apple suggestions section?)

I just downloaded version 10.1 - the description cited 'look and feel improvements'. I was excited about the prospect of colored icons returning as this would be a marked improvement from v10. No dice. I feel ignored by the developers... My complaint is not (really) about aesthetics, but a loss of functionality: the open window does not appear active, which is confusing, and the icons are more difficult to differentiate, particularly on my 13" screen. Anyway, just wanted to voice my displeasure....

  • Bring back color icons in Dreamweaver (Was:Uninstall latest update?)

I'm brand new to Dreamweaver and using it for a school class, and I really hate the latest update- among other things, I miss my color icons, I was surprised what a huge difference having them makes.
I am using Creative Cloud (CS6) and am hoping somebody could walk me throug the process of uninstalling this update?
If it helps, I'm running Windows 7 on a 64bit system.
    Thanks,
    Lauren

As I was recently reminded, Dreamweaver is highly extensible. Adobe has some info on this: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/extend/index.html (I assume it will be updated for CS6 at some point)
The icons for the menus are located here for Win7 64bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\configuration\Objects (Default location. Your install path may vary)
The Common folder (inside of Objects) for example, contains most of the Common Insert icon PNGs, with the exception of the Video and Div PNGs, which are located in Media and Layout, respectively.
Before upgrading back to the Cloud version, I copied the “Objects” folder (with the color icons) to a backup location on my computer. Once Dreamweaver was upgraded to version 12.1, I replaced the new gray icons with the color backups. There are several folders of icons to go through.
As for the new icons that do not have color counterparts, I used Photoshop - still a work in progress.
This may be a temporary solution to a permanent problem however (as far as future updates are concerned), unless Adobe, or someone, is willing to package these icons up into an extension. I’m definitely looking into this myself, because I prefer choice.

  • Hate Lion grey icons, want to get back colored icons

Just switched (a test on a seperate HD) to Lion.  Like most people I use customised colored Icons as part of navigating quuickly.  In the sidebare it is all boringly gray.
I seen some of the discussions about this hot topic but found no permanaet solutions.  Anybody know any?

    I also wanted colours back!!
I got this from a colleague: go to http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/25/get-color-sidebar-icons-back-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lio n-finder-windows/
    These are the steps:
Download and install SIMBL, which you can get here
Download the ColorfulSidebar SIMBL plugin (direct link) or visit the developers home and mount the DMG file
Move the ColorfulSidebar.bundle into the following SIMBL plugin folder:
    ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/
Either login and logout of Mac OS X, or just kill the Finder through the Terminal to relaunch it:
    killall Finder
Works like a charm, I'm a happy -colourful- Maccer again!

  • When NOT using icons on the toolbar, side-bar drop-down for additional toolbar items has disappeared with Firefox 4 and accessing these items requires clicking 'Bookmarks', then 'Show all bookmarks' then 'Toolbar'--ugh, what a pain.

On older versions of Firefox, Toolbar links ran across the top of my screen, with a drop-down to the far right which would show additional Toolbar items for which there was not room on the screen.
With Firefox 4, if I'm not using icons (text only), the dedicated Toolbar drop-down is gone and I have to first click 'Bookmarks' to the right of the Toolbar ribbon, then 'Show All Bookmarks', then 'Toolbar' in order to access my additional Toolbar links. Could anyone have made it any harder?
Why doesn't someone just restore the drop-down at the far right of the Toolbar so that all of my Toolbar items (which I prefer to keep separately from the regular Bookmark items, else I would have just plain bookmarked those items in the first place) are readily accessible?

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
You only see the Bookmarks menu button if the Menu bar is hidden.

  • Bring back artist/song info in the title bar (Desktop)

Why would you remove that feature? Now it just says "Spotify Premium". I'd honestly like to hear the logic behind this.

I love Spotify and as many others here use it to listen to music while at work, so having a preview of artist/song is handy. I just can't think how replacing this info with a static title would be an improvement. I'm really curious to know why that decision was made and the thinking behind it?
Otherwise, keep up the good work. CheersSkumberg wrote:

  • Bring back the color in our lives

Bring back the color in my life.  Office 2013 stinks.  I have to take my computer in a closet to see the screen!!!  Bring back color and contrast so I don't have to work in the dark.  What were you thinking?  Apple tried this with
their iPhones and failed.  You did too.  Discrimination to those of us over 40.

    Hi,
To change the background and color in Office 2013, in any Office Application, we can go to FILE -> Options -> General -> Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office, select Office Theme -> OK.
It's true the fact is we only have White, Light Gray and Dark Gray in Office 2013, which is complained about by some of our customers. I feel really sorry if this has brought you any inconvenience. So far I haven't heard whether more colors will be added
to Office 2013, but please be assured that any improvements in the product are based on users' requirements. Our developers strive to capture Microsoft users' ideas and are working hard to create a more powerful and easy-to-use product.

  • Stop taking away colour (color) icons!!!

Please can someone tell me a way to bring back the colour icons that Apple keeps stealing from me?
First iTunes, then OSX, mail and Safari, now Aperture 3.3 and iPhoto 9.3 (P.S. if you, like me, hate the loss of easy to find and generally more visually appearling colour icons etc do not upgrade to aperture 3.2.3.).
I simply cannot understand why, 20 years after introducing the first colour Mac, Apple want to drag us back to a less visually appealing and less user friendly dull and dreary colour scheme for all their apps. The human eye and brain work well together to quickly find what you are looking for with colour. Black and white means that you have to analyse the icon or the word beside it - totally counterintuitive - slowing down my workflow.
BRING BACK COLOUR ICONS APPLE - YOU ARE DRIVING ME AWAY AS A CUSTOMER.
To quote the fantastic Sheldon Cooper... We could also stop using the letter M, but I think that idea is isguided and oronic.
Seriously Apple wake up - keep making forward steps - not backward ones.

  • TS3274 Could any IPAD USER please advise how I can go back to the Itunes store/library from the movie, music, etc. page?  Only the options for movie/tv/music etc show at the bottom but nothing that will take me back to the side bar. PLEASE HELP, THANKS?

Could any IPAD User please advise how I can go back to the Itunes/Library/Devices side bar from the music, tv, movies pages?  The only thing that shows at the bottom are the selections for music/movies/ etc.  Thanks

You don't get a sidebar in the iTunes app on the iPad. Your downloaded and synced music, audiobooks and audio podcasts will be in the Music app and your videos and TV shows will be in the Videos app - the iTunes app on the iPad is just the iTunes store.

  • Aperture - how can I get my colored icons back ??? I don´t like it grey in grey !!!

    Hello,
is there any chance to restore the colorful icons in Aperture 3?
Whatever possible reason the developers may have had, to make
it all grey in grey... I don´t like it that way !!!
Just the same like the loss of colorful icons since OSX Lion...
In my opinion it was much better before, as the combination
of pictograms + color is much more intuitive !!!

The icons are stored inside the Aperture Application package, in the folder
         Contents > Resources
If you want the color back, copy all colored icons (all the tiff images inside this folder) from a previous Aperture version to this folder in the current Aperture version.
To reveal this folder, select the Aperture application in the Finder, cntl-click it, select "Show Package Contents".
But consider carefully, if you really want to patch the Application package. You have to be very careful, and you will have to do it over and over again, with each new update.

Please don't post the same question mutliple times!  I have deleted your duplicate post.
Have you tried a System Restore to a time before the change occurred?

My taskbar is blank in Firefox. It simply says 'Done' in the bottom l/h side. When I go back to windows the taskbar reappears with all icons at r/h side.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.
