Bring back photo counts on filtering

I just upgraded to Lightroom 2 and found that the the photo counts of filtered results has disappeared. I want to quickly and easily see how many results I get in each subfolder for a particular filter/search. At the very least I'd like Lightroom to highlight all of the subfolders where a result was found. I used this feature almost every day with Lightroom 1. Now I have to decide if I should downgrade back to Lightroom 1 for the sake of more funtional search results.

Lr2 includes a significant number of changes to how images are filtered and the information presented. As a result, presenting the info in the format you got in Lr1.x is not supported by Lr2.x That being said, the information is still available as a total in the info bar.

Bringing back photos previously archived

I was struggling for space with all my music and so archived off my photos to both a DVD and an external drive, both of which now have a library named iPhoto Library - 13/10/2008.
I now have all my music on an external drive and want to bring back the photos from the old library to my existing smaller one on my internal drive ( without spending money on more applications ).
Is there a way to import all the photos from the older library file to my current iphoto library on my internal hard drive ?

You can use iPLM in the demo mode to copy 10 or less photos at a time to another library.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

Syncing a moved folder is not bringing back all the photos to Lightroom

I have moved and renamed a folder in the external harddrive. Syncing that moved folder in lightroom is not working in bringing back all the photos to Lightroom - Although all the photos exist in that folder as I have confirmed through windows explorer.
Another Option: If I choose "import photos to this folder option" in LR and browse to the source to that folder - the missing photos are shown as shaded back and the import button (bottom right corner) is not highlighted. Therefore I cannot select these missing photos and hence cannot import them to the folder.
PLEASE ADVISE!

In the Folders Panel, the original folder should be listed with a "?" mark, because Lightroom can no longer find it. Right-click on it, select "Find Missing Folder", then browse to and select the renamed folder in its new location.
Note....these type of problems will continue to happen if you continue to rename and/or move folders or files outside of Lightroom. Do it using Lightroom and no such problems will arise.

I clicked the eye of the Happy Birthday to render it invisible.
I added a new "Happy Anniversary" type layer.
Saved the new revised psd file and returned to LR.
In LR, I still have only 1 psd file stacked with the original raw file, but now it says Happy Anniversary. Note: sometimes it may take a few moments for the new PS edits to appear. By selecting another image and then reselect this psd file tends to speed this rendering of the new image.
So where in all this is the LR edits you produce AFTER up created the layers after opening the layered doc in PS?
I now have a new card ready to print just as before with all the LR edits originally made on the birthday card including the LR edits, crop and vignette made on the original psd file.
And as far as I can tell, all those edits were applied in PS AFTER rendering.
If I send that psd file a third time to PS, I still have the smart object layer, and both type layers. I can add a 3rd type layer "Happy Easter" if I so desire and return to LR.
Again, the crop and vignette are seen in the one psd file in LR.
So...yes, I can have both layers AND LR adjustments including the original raw adjustments through the smart object background.
No, you have a layered file and you have instructions but the layered file isn't rendered with those instructions and doing so would flatten the results.

Bring back the Filter option in Search results

Well, not only Sorting is messed up (removed) from the latest realease of Spotify, filtering is as well. You can no longer filter (ctrl-F/cmd-F) your search results, and, as with many other great features killed without explanation, we want this one back as well. Thanks!
PS. You can manually bring back the old search - including sorting and filter options - if you write "spotify:search:[search term]" in the search field.

Is there a business reason why this feature hasn't returned, despite a huge number of complaints? (Matt Suda - does he work for Spotify? - writes in this thread that it is coming back but its status is still "Watch this space" in the monthly ideas review). I can think of a few business model reasons that Spotify doesn't want its customers to have filter/search. For example: 1- I bet it's reduced the amount of use by customers like me, so the business gets the "Health Club" revenue stream - loads of subscribers who don't use the service much. 2- Perhaps its a way of increasing use of the Facebook aspect of Spotify and so creating more advertising revenue. If we are wasting our time and effort asking for the return of this feature then please, Spotify, just tell us and we will vote with our wallets after examining the competition.

Ok I didn't have a problem bringing the photo back with Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 back to Aperture. I am having a problem with Adobe photoshop Elements 12 bring the photo back to Aperture. In Aperture preferences I am pointed to the Adobe Photoshop elements 12 app in the Support file.

What are your pref settings in Aperture e.g. what type of file are you sending to the Elements Editor Application? When you finish in PSE are you using Cmd+S or File >> Save to ensure the same file is overwritten and comes back into Aperture? If you incorrectly use File >> Save As it is more likely Elements will default to PSD. Effectively you would be creating a brand new file which never originated in Aperture and hence will not come back to Aperture.

How do I bring back just one file?

I have been using Time Machine for years. Now, I want to find just one or two photos. I think the photos are in one of the past iPhoto librarys but when I try to access the library I get a message that I cannot because it's not the current iPhoto library or something like that? Should I just restore that entire time machine set and go from there. I am only trying to bring back one or two photos.

Can apple, in it's largesse, bring back Expose, as it was in Snow Leopard?

I'm a professional photographer, and one of the most useful features in Snow Leopard for me was Expose. Many times, I have several photos in process at the same time, as many as a dozen shots. Expose made it easy for me to see all of them at a glance, which helped me to quickly pick out "winners", check for consistent colors, and click on a photo for additional work. By comparison, Mission Control, or Spaces, or whatever it's called does not neatly arrange individual windows across several applications the way Expose did; does actually - I still use Expose in Snow Leopard, and it's rather tedious to transfer files back and forth from one Mac to the other in my office/studio just so I can use Expose. It would be great to bring it all back to my primary Mac that runs Mountain Lion. So, Apple, if you are reading this (it is said key Apple employees do read discussions like these), PLEASE bring back Expose. It was one of the coolest, convenient, and most user friendly out of all of your numerous innovations!

10.10.3 causing Apple Mouse problems and bring back iPhoto

I recently purchased an Apple Mouse to replace my Rocksole Magic Mouse. Since updating to 10.10.3 yesterday, my button scrolls down but not up. I have opened preferences and tried all settings for the button. Nothing helps. The old mouse works fine. I thought that I would try the Apple mouse because I like the feel better.
Seeing all the other problems with ---.3, I fear that Apple is getting like Microsquash!!!! Does anyone else have this problem, or a fix, other than going back to my old mouse?

What are the reasons that nntp access was discontinued?
As a direct result a lot of long-time, knowledgable users seem to have abandoned the forums especially on the Macromedia side - nntp was just so much quicker let alone the possibilities to filter and quickly save topics as plain text. This is more than a bit disappointing.
Please, consider bringing back nttp access.

I do not find the public domain argument to be very satisfying. I think if some bean counter thinks the purpose of these forums is to build some body of content that can be packaged and controlled, then that person is very narrow minded.
The purpose of these forums has always been for US - the user community to share and support each other. This saves Adobe money by providing a place where people can get answers to basic to moderately complex problems without having to use expensive human resources paid for by Adobe. It also builds the good will of Adobe products in that there is a place where somebody can go and get problems solved, often quickly and easily, before they become a festering sore in a developers mind that motivates them to look for a different software solution for their tasks.
NNTP allowed a lot of very knowledgable people to be very helpful when they had a few spare moment in thier day. They could quickly scan their news reader inbox for new topics that they can help. Then they could quickly fire off a reply within the reader and move on to the next message. All this without having to wait for a browser to render a lot of JavaScript and DHTML over and over again for each and every message and reply.
The email system could be a lesser substitue for this functionality if it worked correctly. But, to date, my experience with it has been less then encouraging. The mesages are comming in all jumbled up, the subects have these long, unimportant strings "[ColdFusion and Flash Integrations] New message:" prepended to them so that I can not easily tell what they are. The emails do not properly follow the email RFC standard so that my email reader can properly thread the messages, thus I can not easily follow in topics in any given forum. I just get a random quote that is meainingless without context and the only way to get that context seems to be to fire up a browser. Replying to them is problematic where I have seen my and other users messages completely dissapear when processed by this system, resulting in a blank box for a reply.
I was a long time NNTP user that enjoyed helping my fellow ColdFusion developers on these forums whenever I had a few free moments in my day. But I do not forsee myself sticking it out for very long in this new forum if there is not some improvment, or at least some communication or acknowlegement of some hope for improvement, from the powers that be. All we seem to get is that there is no NNTP, there are no plans for NNTP, the email does not work as expected, but there is no acknowlegement of what, if anything, is going to be done about that either.
I know that I am not alone in this manner. I know that those that are most vocal about this issue where some of the most knowlegable and frequently helpful people of the previous forums and I just can not imagine how the quality of this resource is going to be improved by their loss, no matter how subjectivily pretty the new web interface is juged to be.
I give myself another day or two to see if I can somehow make this work, then I will move on and check back in a few months to a year to see if anything has improved.

Is there a way to bring back the "Open a New Tab" option via right-clicking on the Tab?

I just upgraded to latest version of Firefox (6.0). Yesterday it informed me that an upgrade to Firefox 5.(something) was available and asked if I wanted to upgrade. I went for it. However, I hadn't used it since then till today. Now when I opened it today it asked me if I wanted to upgrade to version 6.0. Without hesitation, I went for it too.
While this version looks nice, it feels a bit odd to use it. Previously whenever I wanted to open a new Tab, I right-clicked on any of the Tabs (active tab or any other Tab) and after right-clicking, it had the option to '''''Open a New Tab''''' along with few other options. Now there's no such option. There's the + button to open a new tab, but what if I want to open a link in a new tab by right-clicking on it? Similarly the option to Open in New Window is also missing.
Is there a way to bring back those previous Tab options/settings? If yes, how?
P.S. In my bookmark toolbar, when I click on a bookmark icon, it has the same options/settings as it previously had in the last version I used (last version I used was 3.something; while I'd upgraded to version 5.something I hadn't used it except for opening the browser when it asked me to upgrade to version 6.0). Options on right clicking the bookmark icon are:

No. The Tab bar is a regular toolbar in current Firefox versions, so you get the normal right-click context menu of a toolbar if you right-click the tab bar.
You can double click on empty space on the tab bar to open a new tab if you do not want to use the new tab button.<br />

Hi richmc. I will only deal with the last part of your message.
You say that you want to use Outlook 2007 to collect your mail. That is not a problem, it is just an email client. BT do not supply this email client. Microsoft do.
You cannot expect BT to be able to assist customers with all the different email clients available to use. You can get the server details etc to set it up yourself.
Most ISP's are the same on support issues for things that they do not supply.
BT do have a paid support service if you did want to use it but for things like email setup it should not be needed.
You also say that you have your own domain names. These NEED to be hosted somewhere to be able to use them for email.
I don't believe that BT do hosting anymore(Could be wrong). So you would need to get in touch with a hosting company, someone like Nethosting, 1&1, GoDaddy etc to set up an email hosting account and then set up your email client to your hosting companies email servers.

Bring Back the Apple MB869LL/A (A1242) Wired Compact USB Keyboard

I know Wireless and Bluetooth are great technologies! I know Apple makes it relatively easy to change batteries in their devices (magic mice and keyboards)!
However, I am running a few elementary school computer labs where we have many iMac computers and limited space.
One of my major obstacles from keeping these computers reliably operational is keeping keyboards alive with fresh batteries (We have wired mice). Also, since table space is limited, the standard FULL SIZE keyboards (with the numerical 10-key) takes space away from the mouse. A 10-key at this elementary school age level is really unnecessary.
It would be ideal if Apple could bring back their older version of the Aluminum Keyboard that was compact AND USB wired! The old model number was MB869LL/A (A1242).
These options are all that is currently available and neither is ideal:
FULL SIZED Wired Keyboard (that is too wide and the 10-key is unncessary): Wired Aluminum Keyboard MB110LL/B USB with Numeric Keypad
COMPACT Wireless Keyboard (that changing the batteries is too time consuming when you have 100's of computers in a lab to deal with):

Looking for a compact, non-10-key, WIRED, USB, Apple compatible keyboard (that has brightness and volume controls built-in).

Depending on your budget, you can find just about anything you want if you check the internet for computer peripherals. The biggest problem with the keyboard that you want would be its high price tag and finding a large (new-in-box) supply of them. I'm never surprised at the availability of keyboards that were never used with the computers that they shipped with. After Apple discontinued the ADB extended keyboards, I was still able to find new ones for my older fleet of beige G3s. As a less expensive alternative - but one that excludes your preference for brightness and volume controls - you may wish to consider a reasonably-priced, USB-wired keyboard for PCs, like the compact one shown at this eBay auction. A PC keyboard will work with a Mac, except for any programmable function/media keys that are part of the Windows software installed with the keyboard. One distinction between an Apple and a PC keyboard is the placement/juxtaposition of the two keys on either side of the space bar: The Windows logo key and the Alt key. When used with a Mac, the Windows key becomes the Apple Command key and the Alt key is the Option/Alt key. For your use, perhaps you could place a permanent sticker with the Apple "Command" symbol on the Windows key. In an elementary school lab, the stickers might be peeled off as soon as you've replaced them - which would be a nuisance.
