Bring back wake on trackpad movement

Look, I am super used to swiping across the trackpad to wake my macbook. Lion got rid of that functionality and there does not seem to be a way to bring it back. I am sure we will get a terminal script soon to fix this, but I hope apple comes up with a solution in an update sometime soon. My laptop never once woke up by accident, and I think the accidental wake up is more of an iMac with mouse problem than a laptop trackpad problem. Anyway, apple please fix.

Totally agree. What's the point on disabling it?! I have woken up my MBP this way for at least 2 years. I MISS THIS FEATURE APPLE!!! Please give it back to us! Terminal command any one?

Please bring back an option to Add Scroll Arrows!?

Mac OS X v10.7 Lion - has removed scrollbars and changed the direction of scrolling to better align with iphones, ipads, etc. Thankfully, there are options to go back to behavior similar to classic scrolling behavior, with one important exception. Unfortunately, scroll arrows are now completely gone. OUCH !
Through preferences one can make scrollbars be presented. Behavior can be based on the type of device being used, or scrollbars can be displayed all the time. I choose to display scrollbars all the time.
Through preferences one can make the scrolling direction go back to what one expects if one used Mac OS X versions prior to 10.7 Lion. When I'm scrolling content on my MacBook Pro, I'm either using devices that are not "embedded" in the display (the trackpad or the mouse). When others do scrolling say on an iPad, where the scrolling is directly on the screen, I get it that the direction is different. But don't change up and down so it will match a phone or tablet when I'm on a device where I'm doing indirect manipulation of window content.
To the core complaint... Scroll Arrows are Gone: I cannot get scroll arrows any more. Take a look at Mail or Safari. This is especially needed in Mail. I get lots of mail. I want to be able to scroll up and down by pages (yes there is another preference for this) using the scroll region. I can do that. But I also want to be able to scroll the window (say preview window, or mail message content window) by one line at a time. However, there is no option that I can find. Maybe I want to see the whole paragraph at the same time. Maybe I want to see a code fragment of 5-10 lines all at one time.
Some might say we should just use the up and down keys on the keyboard. I would like to do that. However, with Mail, Apple still has not provided the ability to move from message to message in the preview pane without MARKING THE MESSAGE AS READ ! Most email messages (like this one :-) are too long at least for quick browsing. When I use the up/down arrow to go from message 42 to message 49, then 42 thru 49 are marked as read, even though I can do this in a second or so with seven down-arrow presses. Certainly I can't read 7 real-life emails in a second. See below for a post two years ago requesting this feature which many Mail programs have, but which has never been added to Mac's Mail app:

Please bring back some method for turning on scroll arrows again! And yes, give the option for controlling whether they're stacked at bottom of scroll region, or for using the more common model of up arrow at top of region and down arrow at bottom.
Sadly, this is also a core behavior of Mac OS X 10.7. I have Chrome installed. It does not allow scroll arrows either.
So, Apple... Accept that you went too far. Bring back options to turn on scroll arrows.
...and go back and review that mail preview behavior too, while you're at it.

while the two finger scrolling is a sometime substitute for scroll arrows it is completely inadequate as a full time solution. It is useless in programs like excel that can have multiple split screens and only scrolls in one at at time and there is no reliable way that doesn't affect other operations to tell the program what screen you want to scroll in. With scroll arrows I got arrows for each window when I split the screen. It is typical of apple's (and steve jobs) hubris that they would eliminate these. It's fine if you think it is more sleek efficient use of the screen not to have scroll bars, but why recognize the need for scroll bars and allow us to turn them on and not scroll arrows?.
Forgetting the split screen problem, on the large databases I have with 10s of thousands of records anything other than scroll arrows is unpredictable because the scrolling speed is dictated by the size of the database and the sideways scrolling with the track pad is clumsy.
The lack of compatability in Lion whether with programs or user interface speaks poorly of Apple and it is the first time in a long time I've thought I might be headed back to the dark side.
And I think they do this on purpose, to make people bend to their paradigm -- see Job's refusal for the longest time to let keyboards connect to the iphone.
And, I know I'm not speaking to apple here, I'm speaking to Apple users. Apple doesn't seem to care or think it can do any wrong and has had that attitude for a long time.

Syncing a moved folder is not bringing back all the photos to Lightroom

I have moved and renamed a folder in the external harddrive. Syncing that moved folder in lightroom is not working in bringing back all the photos to Lightroom - Although all the photos exist in that folder as I have confirmed through windows explorer.
Another Option: If I choose "import photos to this folder option" in LR and browse to the source to that folder - the missing photos are shown as shaded back and the import button (bottom right corner) is not highlighted. Therefore I cannot select these missing photos and hence cannot import them to the folder.
PLEASE ADVISE!

In the Folders Panel, the original folder should be listed with a "?" mark, because Lightroom can no longer find it. Right-click on it, select "Find Missing Folder", then browse to and select the renamed folder in its new location.
Note....these type of problems will continue to happen if you continue to rename and/or move folders or files outside of Lightroom. Do it using Lightroom and no such problems will arise.

It sounds like you are unable to see your contacts in the phone, but have confirmed they are still at http://www.icloud.com. I would next try these troubleshooting steps from the article named:

If you're using iOS 7, quit and restart the Contacts app on your iOS device:
Press the Home button twice to see preview screens of the apps you have open.
Find the Contacts preview screen and swipe it up and out of preview to quit the application.

Wait a minute before reopening the Contacts app.
Turn iCloud Contacts off and back on:
Tap Settings > iCloud.
Turn Contacts off. Choose to delete data only if your data exists at icloud.com/contacts and on one or more of your devices. Otherwise, choose Keep Data.
Wait a few minutes before turning Contacts back on.
Restart your iOS device by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and then swiping the screen when prompted to power off. Then turn your device back on. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.

Bring back the little red X please?

With Adobe's continued regression into silent-movie-era palettes I'm having a harder and harder time distinguishing which one out of multiple open documents is the 'hot' one (the one I'm working on at the moment). Could you please bring back the red X box in the image window? It's not like I'm demanding that horrible blue bar from CS3 or anything. I mean. a little color to tip us off to what we're working on can't make all the monochrome purists run in terror can it?

If you're going to suck all the color hints out of the UI maybe you should get rid of that blue box in the upper left corner of every image window - it's just sooo annoying...

I don't consider you treated him fairly. You have some sort of administrative status on this forum, implicit in that is that you should treat all posters equally and fairly. Yet your first post was "Bring back Windows 3.11, we need it. ......VB6 should
be retired and forgotten." That post alone was unfair to the OP and it set the tone for other posts that followed.
In other posts you refer to "VB6 zealots" but never criticize those who oppose the return of VB6 even when they accuse posters of being someone else. (I'm not making a plea for more banning and more censorship, I'm asking that everyone be treated
equally).
You also say "At the end of the day it is a fool's errand to argue with fools, so there's little sense to continuing the 'discussion'". Hardly fair and equal treatment, and certainly not an encouragement of discussion rather than argument.
You also state "If this thread were meant to take itself seriously, it would have a title which was not so obviously false, and it would contain some content with a reasonable argument." Again, the opening post was clearly a genuine call. You may
not agree with it but that is no reason to call it 'obviously false'.
Also the opening post doesn't even refer to VB.NET, it certainly doesn't suggest that VB6 should replace VB.NET - it is others who bring VB.NET into the argument. (And yet you move it to 'Off-topic posts' on the grounds it is not VB.Net related).
Let me state I am putting this forward as my genuine opinion of your actions, I am not attempting to 'troll', 'flame' or to attack you personally.
Valid arguments for VB6
You say Cor has clearly demonstrated there are no valid arguments for keeping VB6 around. Not so.
First of all the OP says "it is needed by many". Why should your and Cor's opinion be any more important than the OP's ?
Here are some reasons it is needed (I limit myself to just 5 otherwise this post will be huge):
1) VB6 is still widely used. According to the TIOBE index it is the #7 most popular programming language - an amazing feat for a language last updated 16 years ago. Particularly as Microsoft (& others) have spent 12 years trying to kill
it off. You may not like it, but there it is.
2) There are still a huge number of legacy VB6 applications in use, especially in corporates and government. Microsoft have (to their credit) recognized this and offer "it just works" support for the VB6 runtime until at least 2023 (soon to be extended).
But this support is for the runtime, not the IDE.
Microsoft effectively offer 2 options for these VB6 applications
a) If no modifications are required, continue running the VB6 application (presumably Cor disagrees with Microsoft).
b) If modifications are needed, migrate to VB.NET.
But in real life the most likely scenario is that the VB6 application will require a minor modification.
So what do you do ? According to Microsoft you migrate. But if the modification is just to change (for example) some text on a form that would be nonsense. I saw a suggestion a while ago that it cost $1 for every 3 lines of code migrated. So
a medium sized VB6 application could cost say $20,000 to migrate. Clearly that is not an acceptable cost for the minor modification I suggested. (Don't get hung up on actual cost figures, I am just pointing out there are potentially significant
costs involved).
The obvious answer for this scenario is to use VB6 (at a cost of say $20 not $20,000). Yet Microsoft don't offer this, stating that the VB6 IDE is not supported on Windows 7 or 8.
Does anyone disagree that doing minor modifications in VB6 is the only acceptable solution in this scenario? Or are some going to suggest it is better to spend $20,000 than $20 ?
Microsoft have painted themselves into a bit of a corner here, stating that they support unmodified VB6 applications until 2023, but you can't (theoretically) modify them.
For completeness on this point I'll cover some other typical scenarios too:-
One is that the VB6 program needs to become a web application - effectively this is then a re-write not a migrate, so you can decide what language is best to use. It may be, for example, that JavaScript/HTML5 is the way to go. (I've followed this route myself
for some old VB6 apps).
Another is that the VB6 application needs a mobile version. A few years ago that may have been VB.NET for Windows Mobile. (I've done that myself too, great for Windows CE/Windows Mobile 6.x). But doing this today you are really looking at iPhone,iPad
and Android - again you can choose the best approach (native or web app ?) and language.
The final scenario I'll mention is the one Microsoft do cover - migrate your desktop VB6 app to desktop VB.NET. I can't think of any occasion in the last few years where I have found a genuine need to do this. I have certainly seen cases where
IT (or whoever) have decided that VB6 apps must be migrated because VB6 is 'obsolete' (I guess a view not too dissimilar from many in this forum). I've even done a few of these myself (though I had the sense to only do smaller migrations, not wanting
to tie myself up with large scale migrations). I don't think of any of these new applications (done by myself or others) were any better than the ones they replaced, but at least the customers were happy (and paid well).
3) VB6 is the same language as VBA. VBA is a current, Microsoft supported language. It is in Microsoft's flagship product Office 2013. And it is the same language as VB6. You can cut and paste code between VB6 and VBA (and vice-versa). It is the same
language.
Both VB6 and VBA use the Visual Basic Runtime Library. In fact it is more than that, VB6 actually uses VBA to define it's language. In effect the VB6 IDE is a host for VBA in the same way that Word or Excel are hosts.
It is strange that Microsoft support (and sell and extend) the language when it is named VBA but not when it is named VB6.
Microsoft say VBA will be supported for the foreseeable future stating "This means that if you have an existing VBA project that you are satisfied with, you can be confident your investment is safe". Where is the logic in having this for VBA but not VB6
They assure you your VBA investment is safe but won't give the same assurance for your VB6 investment.
(OK, for the more pedantic posters VB6 is the same as VBA6. VBA7 is the latest release and includes a handful of modifications to support 64 bit Windows. Prior to VBA7 the languages were kept identical, it is these same modifications that many
of us now would like to have incorporated into an updated VB6).
4) A suggestion to bring back an improved version of VB6 is the fifth most popular (out of almost 8,000) on the Visual Studio UserVoice site. Vote
for VB6
5) Microsoft's program manager for Visual Studio stated (Channel 9) "It isn't cost effective to keep rewriting code to get back to functional equivalence". Quite so. So why re-write existing VB6 applications ? (Again, Cor presumably disagrees).
General Points
You mention LightSwitch and SmallBasic. A good point. But I'm sure you know neither support VB6 code so it doesn't address the concerns of the OP. But it is nice to see that you aren't opposed to all languages that aren't called 'VB.NET'.
So why the opposition to an updated VB6 ? If you prefer, it could be named LightSwitch 6.1 rather than VB6.1 ? Or maybe SmallBasic 7.0 ? Or if you see VB6 as a threat to VB.NET you could name it VB Junior. As long as it can open and compile VB6
code that's fine by me. Incidentally, there is certainly no call for VB6.1 to be part of "the .Net family".
You say "you want these hard working people to DO MORE WORK so that you can continue to generate income from your ancient endeavors." I'm not sure I see your point here. How is asking for Microsoft to bring back VB6 (together with the modifications
they have already done for VBA7) doing that? I suspect Microsoft could do this for a fraction of the money they have wasted on LightSwitch or SmallBasic. And if it is going to be more work than Microsoft can handle (as if) they should open source
VB6.
You mention that your 8 year old website is 'crap'. Well, that's what happens with websites. But the analogy doesn't really hold for a typical VB6 desktop program. A desktop CRUD program written in VB.NET doesn't really look (or behave) any different
to the same program in VB6.
You ask what I will be doing in 5 years when nobody uses PCs anymore ? Well who knows what the future will bring, but it is likely to be VB6 for those (mainly corporate) users still using desktops and laptops or Windows tablets, JavaScript for
Web apps - including iOS and Android - (I note Microsoft are recommending JavaScript/HTML5), and something (maybe Basic4Android ?) for native Android apps if Android phones and tablets become more acceptable for corporate users. I'll probably
also be migrating my VB.NET apps to JavaScript too.
As things stand, Microsoft have sent a clear message: 'If you are planning to make a substantial investment in developing your software, if your application is mission-critical, if you expect to use it for years to come - don't use Microsoft languages.'
Have Microsoft learnt from this ? The killing of Silverlight would suggest not.

Bring back traditional scroll bars and arrows

Why would Apple change a fundemental part of the UI? Removing scroll bars and arrows from the UI is unacceptable in my view. I understand you can restore scroll bar functionality from system preferences but having the arrows on certain apps is very helpful. What possible reason or improvement could warrant this action?

I'm a Wacom tablet user for many yeras, an not planning to get a Magic Mouse ($60.89) or Magic Trackpad ($96.03).
Why? Till 10.6.8 it work fine. It looks to me that Apple wants te sell more of there Mouse and Trackpads.
Just bring back traditional scroll bars and arrows as a option.
Apple starting to look like Microsoft. "We know what's best for you".
Just give the OSX users a option. I'll wait for a OSX update or for some one how writes a nice small utility to bring theme back. He/She will be a hero.

If you go through each of the sources; Music, Movies etc. and select Playlists then it is pretty close to the old layout. You can use the ellipsis ... to enable hidden sources. Apps, Tones, and Internet Radio don't have a Playlists button but the others do and remember your selection. The change isn't that drastic and as yet I don't think it disrupts any of my workflows.

for a long time, the Exchange server in DR site has been offline because of no available disk space. now that both the Exchange servers in main site and DR site have the same hd size for the mailbox database, i'm planning on bringing back the DR site Exchange
server.
problem is, the DR site Exchange server have the previous configurations in terms of mailbox database names, sizes. the main site Exchange servers have different database names, sizes. but both have the same drive letters.
question is, when i bring online the DR site Exchange server, how can i make it sync with the new configurations from the main site Exchange servers? should i delete the old mailbox databases in the DR site first, do a file level copy of the mailbox databases
from the main site, and then restart Exchange?

If your database is that large, your best bet for adding a second copy is to use external storage, as you suggest. However, in order to do this, you are going to need to freeze the database so it doesn't change during the time you are copying the database
and placing it onto your second server. To do this, you need to add the second database copy (without seeding it - using "Add-MailboxDatabaseCopy -SeedingPostponed" - this will save the log files necessary for the database
copy until it is available to add them) before you start copying your database files, and you will need to copy your database files while the database is offline - you can bring it back online once you have copied it. I am going to guess
that you don't have the storage necessary to host your log files for an extended time period (more than a week), so you will need to copy the database and get it placed on the second server in a very short time period in order to complete this before your
log drive is full. And if you have a lot of churn in your database, those transaction log files are going to take a very long time to copy across your WAN link so they can be read into the database copy.
An alternate solution you may consider, which won't require that the database be copied manually to the new server, is to add a new mailbox database with copies on both servers, then to move mailboxes into this database. This will allow you to grow the database
gradually, allowing the passive copy to keep up to date with the active primary. You can move the high priority mailboxes to this database first, moving to mailboxes of lower importance over time.
I'll add a final note - if you add your database copy on the weekend, you may be able to seed it across your WAN. My calculations show that this should take less than a few hours (easily less than half a day), which may be much faster than if you attempt
to copy the database to a USB device and transport it to the second datacenter. That WAN connection is going to be saturated while this copy goes on, which is why I recommend doing it on a weekend.

Bringing back the rejected material into un restricted stock

Dear Experts,
We had a PO for 125000 qty of a material agaisnt which the GRN was done by stores
when quality fellow inspected the inspection lot only 25000 were found ok and the same were posted into unrestricted stock through UD
After discussion with vendor now we ara again required to bring back rest 100000 quanitiies to un restricted stocks as the same were routed through 122 movement by system automatically
please suggest

You can do 123 movement type. 123 is the reversal of return delivery to vendour. In MIGO you can do this transaction. If this is not happening you can do GR of that 100000 quantity against PR once again.

Damage or non useable spares of equipment bring back into stores

Dear All,
I have created one b/d maintenance order for pump equipment. In this one bearing is damaged which is not useable. For this we will issue new bearing for order, so this spares cost will be booked on order.
But how I can bring damage bearing in stores which will be further going to be as scarp.
Can is it possible to bring back damage spares in stores with reference of b/d maintenance order which is already created. For this what will be cost effect on order.
Kindly give me the step by step procedure for this scenario.

you have define valutaion types for the material in Materails managemnt first
with same material code how you will identify the l,material whci is scrap or newly procured
Once valutaion exist for the material
Return the material to warehouse against same order number by movement type 262 then it will be automatically received in stock as valution type damaged
at mb11 by 262 system will ask you the material code

Bring back nntp access

What are the reasons that nntp access was discontinued?
As a direct result a lot of long-time, knowledgable users seem to have abandoned the forums especially on the Macromedia side - nntp was just so much quicker let alone the possibilities to filter and quickly save topics as plain text. This is more than a bit disappointing.
Please, consider bringing back nttp access.

I do not find the public domain argument to be very satisfying. I think if some bean counter thinks the purpose of these forums is to build some body of content that can be packaged and controlled, then that person is very narrow minded.
The purpose of these forums has always been for US - the user community to share and support each other. This saves Adobe money by providing a place where people can get answers to basic to moderately complex problems without having to use expensive human resources paid for by Adobe. It also builds the good will of Adobe products in that there is a place where somebody can go and get problems solved, often quickly and easily, before they become a festering sore in a developers mind that motivates them to look for a different software solution for their tasks.
NNTP allowed a lot of very knowledgable people to be very helpful when they had a few spare moment in thier day. They could quickly scan their news reader inbox for new topics that they can help. Then they could quickly fire off a reply within the reader and move on to the next message. All this without having to wait for a browser to render a lot of JavaScript and DHTML over and over again for each and every message and reply.
The email system could be a lesser substitue for this functionality if it worked correctly. But, to date, my experience with it has been less then encouraging. The mesages are comming in all jumbled up, the subects have these long, unimportant strings "[ColdFusion and Flash Integrations] New message:" prepended to them so that I can not easily tell what they are. The emails do not properly follow the email RFC standard so that my email reader can properly thread the messages, thus I can not easily follow in topics in any given forum. I just get a random quote that is meainingless without context and the only way to get that context seems to be to fire up a browser. Replying to them is problematic where I have seen my and other users messages completely dissapear when processed by this system, resulting in a blank box for a reply.
I was a long time NNTP user that enjoyed helping my fellow ColdFusion developers on these forums whenever I had a few free moments in my day. But I do not forsee myself sticking it out for very long in this new forum if there is not some improvment, or at least some communication or acknowlegement of some hope for improvement, from the powers that be. All we seem to get is that there is no NNTP, there are no plans for NNTP, the email does not work as expected, but there is no acknowlegement of what, if anything, is going to be done about that either.
I know that I am not alone in this manner. I know that those that are most vocal about this issue where some of the most knowlegable and frequently helpful people of the previous forums and I just can not imagine how the quality of this resource is going to be improved by their loss, no matter how subjectivily pretty the new web interface is juged to be.
I give myself another day or two to see if I can somehow make this work, then I will move on and check back in a few months to a year to see if anything has improved.
