Bringing a 16:9 film into Quicktime

Hi. I saw another post that got me a little farther than I was, but I am still stuck. I have a short film that was shot in 16:9. When I take it to compressor to make it an MPEG-4 for Quicktime, the picture is stretched. The previous post I read had me change the presentation in Quicktime and save it, but that isn't doing anything. I have also tried changing the settings in Final Cut Pro, then sending it to compressor, but each time the outcome is the same. Does anyone know a way to take a 16:9 film and make it normal in Quicktime? Thanks!

If you are rendering in LT make sure you're "Render Background" box is checked
In the project properties make sure you have the correct aspect ratio for 16x9 for instance the HDTV 720p 16x9
Or create a custom layout if you like
Project properties can be found by using the keystrokes command-zero

  • I get a General Error message when I convert my film to Quicktime Movie.

I've compressed my film down to 24p etc etc. That worked fine. Before I did the compression there were some things I had to reconnect, did that, there was only one that didn't reconnect but the compression worked fine. Then I go to turn the film into a Quicktime Movie, I get to about 60% then I get a General Error message. Anyone have any ideas why thats happening?

Have you tried the compression with cinema tools?
make a quicktime movie of the stuff at 25 that you want to compress at 24 and go to cinema tools. make sure you create a new database at 24fps and try menu clip / comform. notice that cinema tools doesn't duplicate the clip, so it converts the one you are importing, make sure it is a copy of the original at 25

  • Breaking a film into scenes?

Hi, I am editing a feature and when I send the whole sequence to STP multitrack project from FCP, STP crashes. I have found that I can send blocks of scenes and there is no problem.
My question is whether I can break the film into chunks of scenes, send to various multitrack projects and at the end, bring them all back into the FCP project? Will this work?
    Thanks in advance.

Any type of help will be much appreciated here please. I really just want to know whether if I send the film in various multitrack files and add effects/mix, etc, I will be able to bring them all back together in one FCP sequence/project?
    Thanks in anticipation.

  • Importing digital copies of films into iMovie

I am using an external service to convert my old 8mm films to video. The transfer quality is superb but they are only set up for Windows. If they give me avi versions on dvd will they be only playable with Windows (or WMP for Mac?) or is there some way I can import them into iMovie for editing? Would an alternative route be to convert a standard dvd back into Quicktime and then import that into iMovie?

    Hi Peter,
.avi is just a container, not a video compressor... that service should tell you what compressor/codec they use...depening on that, a) iM could be able to import directly, b) QT pro is able to convert into dv, iM's native format c) you need Streamclip for converting mp1/2/4, divx, avi, vob...
for converting DVD conetnt, you need addtionally for 20$ Apple mpeg2 plugin
or you give these tools a try:
    * DVDxDV, it has a 30d trial period (testdrive sets a watermark)... and cost 25$
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in

DVD is normally end-of-the-road, means, loss of pic quality after conversion back to dv... ask te service for conversion to miniDV tape, or storage as "dv" on a "PCformatted data dvd" (don't worry, your Mac is able to read that...), but that fits only 20min of video per disk...

  • Import a .srt or .sub file into QuickTime movie

How do I import a .srt or .sub file into QuickTime movie (i.e. pre-made subtitles). I don't want to burn or create a new copy of this movie. I'd just like to view this movie (which is in Italian) with the *.srt subtitle file that came with it.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   QuickTime 7.1.6

Thank you Dave, but unfortunately I've tried both of these. Well, I don't have QT-Pro, just the regular OEM version and incorporated the TitleLab components to my Library > QuickTime folder, but to no success.
Do you think that this TitleLab software will work properly on OS X 10.4 and QuickTime 7? This product is designed to run on the following operating systems: Mac OS Classic, Mac OS X 10.1 & Mac OS X 10.2...
So, the upgraded QuickTime 7 Pro doesn't have a native subtitling ability? That's unfortunate!
I also tried the Perian "JackKnife" beta version. It doesn't quite work... It pretty much places the subtitles in brand new blank screens (not aligned with the film at all). I.e. The film will run, talking will occur, then the screen will go blank and the subtitles will appear at the top, then the subtitles will disappear (after the same duration as the film portion) and the film will resume... Essentially, it's messed up.
    Thanks. Maybe another suggestion?

  • How do I fire a URL into QuickTime from a web page?

Looking at the Apple trailer site and I like the way that if you view a HD trailer it loads QuickTime and opens the video straight into QuickTime
Now I assume it's sending the URL of the MOV file to QuickTime to play.
How can I make a link from a HTML page send the URL into QuickTime to replicate the same way to run a video.
At the moment I build "pop up" windows to display movies in, and I think using QuickTime in this way will be better so if someone has popups blocked my movies will still play.
It must be simple to do.
I once did a site for someone that need a podcast and I got it to send it to iTunes. But I cant seem to see how to do the same for a movie to QuickTime

The technique is known as Poster Movies. A tiny image file saved as .mov file that can either act as a "placeholder" (target="myself") or act like a "link" (target="quicktimeplayer").
    http://www.qtbridge.com/pageot/pageot.html
Free software to help write the proper page code.
Another method is a QuickTime Media Link (.qtl file). These tiny text based files can be placed anywhere in a Web page and will always download (Mac or PC) and will launch the QuickTime Player.

  • Convert Youtube video into Quicktime?

I am in the process of learning how to use "Keynote '09" (Version 5.3). Is there anyway to convert an youtube video into Quicktime, so that I can play the youtube video in my keynote presentation? I would not want to purchase any expensive softwares or apps for it because I do not use keynote for business but just for my community volunteer work.

Since Google seems to 'own' all videos posted on YouTube most video extractors for YouTube, once widely available, no longer work.
So your question is really moot at this point - I don't know of any way, now, to even download YouTube videos. You could always use ScreenFlow (or a similar product) to 'capture' the video and sound, but that (according to Google) would violate their terms of use for YouTube videos.
    Sorry,

  • My CS5 Bridge opens images into Quicktime by Default rather than PS or ACR

I recently changed from an old pc running XP Service Pack 3 to a new computer running 7 and upgraded from CS4 to CS5 with an "upgrade disc". When I double click in Bridge to open into PS or ACR the images open into Quicktime by default.
A secondary though niggling glitch is that when I run CS5 in my Administrator  A/c 7 won't let me delete files/folders unless I turn off my Security Setting
Any corrective ideas would be much appreciated
    Thank Tou

In Bridge click on edit/preferences/file type associations.
Adjust the default to CS5 for the file format you want to open in PS.

  • Im wanting to download from dragon stop motion into quicktime

i'm using a prgram(dragon stop motion)installed into a macbook pro and wish to download what iv captured threw my nikon d7000 1339 pics into quicktime and its my understanding that oncethis is done i will see the pics as a video (at 24 frames per second ) and will also be able to transfer said video with facebook and possibly place on a disc for play...when i attempt the transfer quicktime wont allow it...maybe it not suppose to but the path was suggested in the infomation that came with the dragon stop motion download

The "Pro" upgrade of QuickTime Player 7.6.6 is required to import image sequence files.
You must first import the images into a single folder on your machine.

  • How come every time I bring in a new image into Adobe Ideas as a background it's a different size?

I created a multilayered stencil in Photoshop and each layer was exported as a TIFF.  Then I uploaded those TIFFs to Adobe Creative Cloud.  My idea was to trace each of the TIFFs using Adobe Ideas, which seems to work except, every time I bring in new TIFF as the background photo to trace, it's a different size.'
How come every time I bring in a new image into Adobe Ideas as a background it's a different size?

When importing images through the Photo layer in the layers panel, the image that comes in has a size that is dependent on the current zoom level of the document. This may explain why you are seeing different sizes. You can select the hand tool and double-tap on your sketch to return the zoom level to 100%. If you do this before importing your photo, then your photos should all be imported at the same size.
    Hope that helps,

  • How to bring Sample CSS Style Sheets into a Template?

I am creating a site from scratch using CS4 Template.  Can I incorporate more than one DW Sample CSS Style Sheet?  And how do I bring them into the Template site?
    Thanks, g

Thank you.  I added the 3 sample css style sheets I want to use into my site.  Now I am trying to bring a different sample css into different sections of the layout.  Example:
    Sidebar 1: green/yellow
    Sidebar 2: red/yellow
    Middle: blue/yellow
I seem to only be able to have one for the whole page.  Is this true?
What I am doing is clicking on the div tag: <div.sidebar#sidebar1>, then "Edit CSS" and then scroll down in the Class window to "attach style sheet" and there at the bottom is a link to the sample css style sheets.  I click on the one I want and it changes the css for the whole page not just the sidebar 1. Is there a way I can get a different css sample style sheet for each sidebar in a 3 column layout, and a different sample css for the middle?
    thank you very much

  • MPEGstreamclip corrupts m2t files translating them into Quicktime for FCP

Recently purchased and tested the Firestore FS-4. Had no problems whatsoever capturing the clips perfectly as m2t files in the FS-4.
But when I run those m2t files through MPEGstreamclip to translate them into Quicktime files so FCP can read them, the clips get corrupted.
The translated QT files seem speeded-up as though I had been recording through my Sony Z1U at high speed / fast forward speed. Please see the file in question, pay close attention to how the cars go by at top speed in the middle of the clip:
    http://www.joric.com/freewayclip.mov
No problems with the m2t files, the problems occur after those files get translated into QT files.
Is MPEG streamclip the problem? Is there any other solution for translating m2t to Quicktime other than MPEGstream clip???
    Desperate to find a solution.
    - Nicholas

So, I take it QT Pro will not handle m2t files? I just downloaded Streamclip today, and it worked just fine for my application (demux mpeg-2 file). If you are desparate, as you say, you could try SnapzPro by Amborsia Software. (I have no relationship with them--other than being a customer.) You can capture the video going to your monitor and save it in any QT format your system can handle. It only works with certain video cards, so make sure you can use it before you purchase--but I'm pretty sure there's a trial version. So why does this Firestore save in m2t format?

  • Only part of IMovie HD movie will export into Quicktime

I'm trying to export a movie from IMovie HD into Quicktime, but the video will only export up to a certain frame, while the entire audio exports. Hard drive space isn't an issue. I tried saving it on an external hard drive with a ton of space and it did the same thing. It doesn't give me a message, it just doesn't include the video after a certain point.

    Hi
    a. Does it indicate low on free space ? NO THAT'S why I parrot it !
Only internal (booth/start-up) hard disk counts.
    b. QuickTime is the heart of iMovie, iMovie HD, FinalCut Express and Pro.
If it doesn't work - non of above will
    c. There should be ways to mighrate material to FinalCut. I only know howto
    with the imported/captured material
    • old iMovie - Movie project in a folder. In this a Media folder - Drag and drop
    • iMovie HD - the folder is dressed like a movie project icon - but it's a folder
anyway. Ctrl-click on it and go down the menu to "Show content of package"
    Now find Media folder

  • Anyone know how to get subtitles into Quicktime movies?

With Quicktime now supporting subtitles. Does anyone know how import subtitles into Quicktime movies?
After following the instructions from Apple's support pages for timed text, I tried pasting in timed text. This displays text below the video in an ugly black bar, but isn't recognised as subtitles by Quicktime. Ideally, I'd like to convert srt files into a compliant format, but without knowing the correct format, it's a little difficult.

There haven't been any really clear instructions on how to get subtitles into QuickTime movies yet. Apple has posted a QuickTime component that will convert an SCC file into QuickTime and you'll find that here.
    http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/ClosedCaptionImporter/index.html
Also, a discussions user has posted instructions on how to CC a QuickTime movie in this thread.

And here's another thread you may find helpful links in.
