Bringing already existing html pages into iWeb, possible???

My sister is a graphic designer who created some html pages for me using Dreamweaver & GoLive. I want to update the text, images, and tables in these pages, and thought I could use iWeb, but it only wants to let me use it's templates.
Am I doing something wrong? Seems like there should be an easy way to do this. (If this is impossible in iWeb, can anyone recommend another software option?)

I have Tiger in the box and still have to install it.
I just bought iLife '06 today and will install it after installing Tiger.
I already have a .Mac homepage up — created with Homepage Manager.
I am thinking now that I would like to recreate that original homepage but do it with iWeb.
How do I end up with my original homepage pages all re-done into iWeb templates but retain my original .Mac homepage URL? All my friends know that URL. Could someone please explain?

Well really it's not OR but AND. If you want to do away with your old >homepage-style pages and send people to your iWeb pages via the old URL, >then you must put the redirect on the old pages.
Or you could leave the old pages up but add a link that says "Here's my new homepage..." or something like that...

I think that I want to start copying/recreating my Homepage pages into iWeb pages and accept that I will have a new URL someday in the near future (because I intend to do the copying as fast as I can and not stop). I can send a notice out and change a few other things. However, I have questions for that interim time when I am working on the iWeb pages but not finished with them.
While I am working on iWeb pages, I am given a new URL, right? And thus, I would at that point have two URLs with .Mac. Is that possible? As I see it, the first URL would be the one I have now, which is the address of my present .Mac Homepage Manager Homepage. And the second URL, wouldn't it be the URL of the iWeb pages? That's possible???
I understand the concept of having a redirect page from my original Homepage ultimatly to the new iWeb page, but is it an automatic redirect or one which the viewer can activate if he wants to? I would not want a redirect page to quickly, blindly switch a visitor from the old Homepage to the new iWeb pages which are incomplete.
I don't understand the mechanics of URLs. I don't know what a Redirect Page looks like or how it works and I don't see how I could be working on my new iWeb pages with its new iWeb URL, all the while leaving my present Homepage alone, viewable by visitors with ITS OWN URL.

And now that I have sat here and thought for several minutes, it seems that the easiest thing to do would be to have no redirect page for a while. All that I ask in that case is: Is it possible to do that? Is it possible to have my old/present Homepage viewable while I am working on my iWeb pages?
I think I just solved one of my questions all by myself. If I begin to work on iWeb I will be given a new URL — an iWeb URL. Thus technically, when I Edit and Publish in iWeb, technically, people could view those pages, but chances are they will not if I don't announce the new iWeb URL to them. OK. I see......
I am asking all of this now because I am the type that needs to envision and understand a project from start to finish before I start. I do not like surprises — and cyber surprises have the ability to unsettle me.
Could someone please realign my erratic thoughts? Are my goals possible? Can I have my present .Mac Homepage Manager Homepage viewable and visitable while working away on copying them to my new iWeb site? (I bought iLife '06 yesterday and will install it and Tiger today. Tiger first and iWeb'06 second, as instructed.)

How do I publish an existing HTML page?

Hello,
This might sound a bit basic...possibly because I am not that smart...
I have an NT file system - with in it there is an HTML page with icons and other html pages that are linked (relative links). There are other .html pages and images needed in this area.
I have set up a community and want to point to the existing HTML page on that file system - so when a client goes to that community, that HTML page opens up automatically in a portlet.
The path if Q:\Public\Health\Mainpage.html
I want mainpage.html to open up with the Health Community is selected.
So I made the community, and community page. The was going to place a publisher portlet on it - but do not want the clients to se e a blank page with a portlet linking to Q:\Public\Health\Mainpage.html, but instead see Mainpage.html.
What is the best way of doing this - set up a web service? If so - which one?
Suggestions for a pre-exisiting website residing on a file system?

I would serve up the documents with IIS or Apache and create a standard web service remote portlet to the document.
Another option is to copy and paste the contents of the document into a content item with a long text property. Then use a presentation template which just emits the html from the content item.
Create a published content portlet for that content item. The good part is that you can edit the document in the portal. The downside is that if someone edits the mainpage.html on the q drive, you will have to copy their changes back into the content item.

Why can I not convert items in an existing HTML page to a symbol?

I have imported a basic HTML page into Edge and want to convert the basic elements into symbols.
When I try to do this the options in the menu are greyed out.
Is this not possible or is there a workaround?
It seems crazy if you can't do this, as a front-end dev I would prefer working with existing pages rather than creating content to add to pages.
Please advise.

Integrate existing html site into Portal

What is the best way to integrate an existing html site into the portal? The site is about 70 different pages (basic display, no forms or backend programming) all interlinked and not very organized.
I would like to maintain the "branded" look of the portal, if possible. I would also like to be able to govern the access to these pages with single sign-on, if possible
Could I wrap all the pages with WebClipping or is there a better way.

ERROR: Updatable SQL Query already exists on page 20.

I created a tabular form, then added a where clause and started getting the following error:
Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: no data found in tabular form
So I deleted all components of the tabular form (region, buttons, branches and process) and started building it again from scratch. This is a strategy that has worked for me a number of times in HTML DB. Unfortunately now I get the following error when trying to build a new tabular form:
Updatable SQL Query already exists on page 20.You can only add one updatable SQL query per page. Select a different page.
What is the logic that throws this error. I'm 99% convinced I've cleared the page of any updatable SQL, is there something on the application level I should also clear out?

Ignore this, problem solved. It seems I do have SQL reports that are marked as updatable even though they are just plain reports.

No. Flash has limited support for html and is not capable of displaying html web pages as content.

Insert one html page into another html page

I wonder if sombody can help. I am trying to insert one short
html page into another page. I could not find any option or feature
in Dreamweaver that allow me to insert the page at all. The page I
want to insert has the links and it is a short page, just like a
banner. When I update the links on that page it will update all
other pages in the website. I do not have to open many pages to
update. I have been using FrontPage and I am now converting to
Dreamweaver. Some codes from FrontPage does not work in
Dreamweaver. I would very much appreciate if somebody can help with
the codes.
This is my website so that you can understand what I mean. At
the top of the screen there are many links that are from one page I
inserted into index.html. I use FrontPage. But, Dearmweaver does
not work that way.

You cannot load an html page into Flash, though you can try to load the html code that it contains into a textfield. Flash supports only a very limited number of html tags, so it is highly likely you won't get what you are after if you are reading an html file that hasn't been edited for Flash specifically. Just look up the TextField.htmlText property in the AS3 help documents and it lists the html tags that are supported.
For AS3 you need to look into the URLLoader class as far as loadng an extrernal text file goes.

Even if you need to click a button to parse the page to a parser, you still need to transmit the page back to the server to process, unless you want the client to do it, in which case he/she will have to need a program.
Given by the views floating around in this forum, the idea is that doing a re-query is as costly if not less costly than re-submitting the html page. By relegating to the back-end processing of data using the database, you can ensure the data is up-to-date and you can control the programs executing. That is, you are not worried about user submitting garbage html page for you to process.
If you data size is not large, there is always the session memory to use but it's not really wise as your server's memory is much costlier than network bandwidth. It's the whole server becomes slow versus your DB connection slow.
If you really need to use the re-submitting of your html page back to the server to process, you can always use hidden form values in html to post your data back. However, I can't remember whether there's a limit to the amount of data you can post. Think it's 1024K or something.

HTML-page into flash slideshow?

I'm am trying to load a HTML-page into a flash slideshow. The slideshow is going to run locally on the computer and the HTML-page (or RSS-feed if that is easier) is recieved from the company´s web-page. I'm totaly new to flash, and I would be very grateful if anyone knew any way to do this. Is there any simple string I can use, like URLloader?
