Bringing event to front in iCal

Going to try a slightly different question to the one I posted yesterday.
If i want to bring an iCal event to the front because it is hidden behind another how do I do this? Click on it right and it should come to the front? Since upgrading to Lion this no longer happens. Any help as to why and how to get over this issue would be very much apppreciated.

Perhaps my original post wasn't as clear as I thought it was.
I am running several calendars so that I can see what my colleagues are doing and what is going on at home and there are often events that take place at the same time or overlap times. In iCal 4.0 I used to be able to click an event that was "under" another from a different calendar and it would come to the front along with all the other events of that calendar. This no longer happens with iCal in Lion making it very difficult to see events hidden behind others. I'm sure I can't be only one running more than one calendar in iCal with the potential for overlapping events?
My question is: Is this somehting that Apple have changed (if so I am really @£$% about it) or do I have a problem with my set up? I have already re-installed Lion once to see that helps but no such luck.

[AIR] May I catch "bring window to front" event?

Hi,
I wonder who is responsible for bringing windows to front when user click on that window (application contains more Windows components inside). Is it operating system or AIR runtime? Or perhaps AIR runtime send event to operating system which does it? In this case there would be some chance to catch and stop propagation of that event not to let operating system bring that window to front. Am I right? Any idea how to do it?

Event List view in iCal?

I would love to have an Event List view in iCal like I do on the calendar on my iPhone. Is there such a thing? The particular reason for wanting it (this time) is that one of the calendars in the ON MY MAC list has a number in a oval to the right.
I believe this is trying to tell me that there is a new event that I need to do something about. Problem is, I don't know where to find it.

There is no event list option on iCal like the one on the iPhone.
That number means that you have an event invitation. Use iCal>View>Show Notifications to choose what to do with the notification.

Bug? My events on the iPad iCal app aren't shown in the year view if they are more than two years in the future.

My events on the iPad iCal app aren't shown in the year view if they are more than two years in the future even though I can see them on the month, week and day view. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I've tried it all. I called the apple support and they checked on their iPads. They all did the same and they couldn't help me. They suggested trying this way. I'd like to be able to plan a few years ahead and the year view would make thing so easy!

Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.
Then reboot your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Event listing shortened in iCal

When I enter some events in iCal they do not appear in their entirety in the calendar. Some events use two or three lines, some cut off in only one line. The only solution I have found is to keep changing the 'name' of the event until I hit on one that does not cut off. Surely there is another solution! Any ideas?

When I get an ICS from Outlook that is a multi-day event it populates my iCal as a single day and since I am not the owner I cannot edit the ICS.

When I get an ICS from Outlook Express (Office is PC based) that is a multi-day event, it populates my iCal as a single day and since I am not the owner I cannot edit the ICS. I have to delete it and send a "decline notice" to the sender and re-enter it so I can put in multiple day events. Help!

If you are running Tiger, you don't have time machine.
You need to get something like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner (sorry, I don't have a handy link for CCC but you can Google it to get their site) to make a clone of your drive on the external and then do incremental backups. The free versions do a lot and you can upgrade to the full-service versions for small change if you need more. The one time I used SuperDuper! for cloning a volume it worked just fine.
(My backup application is the last PPC capable version of Retrospect, which does a credible job, or has over the past ten-twelve years.)

Adding all day events using applescript to ical

Hey all. I am new to using applescript. Thanks to some top users i have been able to get excel events file transfered into ical.
I need help with the applescript for changing these events from time duration to all day.

I have the exact same problem. I have entered birthdays for people I know starting with the year of their birth and never ending, an all-day event. They now don't show in 2007, but there is a detached event on January 1, 2000. When I delete that event and all subsequent versions of it, the initial event now ends in 2006 or 2007, and I have to set the repeat to end Never again. I fixed all the ones from February that showed up. Now I notice that a huge amount of the other birthdays (all day events) that I have entered are doing it now, and we are talking well over 40 of them. I don't understand why it keeps creating these detached events. I also publish my calendars, if that makes any difference.

Moving event with mouse in iCal gives me problems on Nokia N96

When I move an item (event) with mouse in iCal, and then iSync to my Nokia N96, I get multiple events in the Nokia Calendar. As if I copy-pasted the item too many times.
The multiple events are on the hours, on which I have dragged around the event.
Somebody having similar issues?

i've been having the same prob as u with my N96 however after i reverted back to factory settings and it's behaving for the time being (touchwood) i've read on posts here that people r having the same prob with their 2nd even 3rd phones so unless u r planning to change ur's for a diff model i'm not sure how helpful replacing the phone will be. I along with many others 'am sure r waiting for the new firmware to come out which hopefully will sort out most of the stability issues. i contacted Nokia and they advised me to wait till the firmware update as well.

Calender on the pre can not import calender events from OL or ICAL

You know what be really cool? .I can forwared calender events from OL to Ical & visa a versa. The calender on either machine will recoginize the event & import it. I send it through my gmail account. The calender on the PRE does not have the ability to open it & place it in the calender. It does not recogonize it. I wish it did. That be cool.

Well, I found the answer to my problem. I can add events to my OL. OL will sync with google calender. Google calender will sync with my phone automatically. This works great.!

I CAN NO LONGER EDIT REPEATING EVENTS (BIRTHDAYS) CREATED IN iCAL

I have many repeating events (birthdays) created in iCal. Recently, whenever I call up these events for editing, and when I save them, I get the message (for example) "Access to “Mom's birthday” in “Birthdays” in account “[username]@me.com” is not permitted.
The server responded:
“HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden”
to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation
I then get the choices to "Go Offline" or "Revert to Server".
Then, if I click "Revert to Server", the entire event disappears.
Can anyone let me know how to solve this problem?

It did serve to definitively answer my most pressing
question, however, with this statement:

Not easily. Two possibilities:
1) If all the events have some common feature (eg you have included "XXX" in all the summaries), search for that feature then select and copy the found items at the bottom of the window. You can then paste them into TextEdit or a spreadsheet for printing
2) You could write an Applescript to locate the events and write them into a text file for printing.
The first one will probably give you what you want.

How do I bring components to front?

Does anybody know, if I have overlapping components like JLabels, how can I choose which one to bring to the front?
In other words, if I have two overlapping JLabels, how can I choose which one gets seen.

I don't know if you can do this programmatically with one call (like the WinAPI setWindowPos and specify the z order and appropriate flag).
Swing components are displayed in the order they are added to the container, with the first component being the top most.

What is "bring all to front"

Under the Window menu is the item "bring all to front" and I have no idea what that means. I thought it meant to get current windows shown but so far nothing happens when I click on that option. ??????????????

For the application showing in the upper left-hand corner, selecting that option brings all of its open windows to the front or on top of any other app's open windows.

Method to bring component to front?

Hey all
I am looking for a method that can be used to bring a component to front in my applet. I have a few choice menus that arent showing up and i believe it is because labels are being drawn over them.
The choice menus do not show up at all normally, but they appear just fine if I
setVisible(false) to the labels.
It has always been my understanding that components will show up in the order they are added to the applet. So if the labels are added first, then the menu second - the menu should be on top. However my applet also requires a lot of setVisible(true/false) and I am not sure if that is affecting the layering also. Would setting a component as visible automatically bring it to front, or would it remain where it has been added?
SO, if there is a bring to front method kicking around that would definately solve my problem.
