Bringing in after effects animation .mov file

Hi...
I am really confused about this one..
I rendered an After Effects file, set to using the animation compression settings, quicktime, 29.97 frame rate...
I bring it into FCP, and it gives me a red needs render bar.. I have my sequence settings to animation.. frame rate matches..
Why is this happening?

I never tried to set sequence to Animation, interesting idea.
But Animation is not a realtime codec, far to incredibly dense. It's meant to be a lossless transport system for effects shots and a universal interchange between platforms and NLEs. A few hardware-supported NLEs, like the older Media 100s, can process certain types of Animation-like files, proprietary codecs that can carry alpha.

    Hello,
Running AE CC and whenever I start a New MAXON Cinema 4D File I get this error message.
After Effects warning: The file '/Applications/Adobe After Effecgts CC/Plug-ins/MAXON CINEWARE AE/(CINEWARE Support)/default.c4d' could not be found.
I looked and the files are still in the plugin folder and all looks well. Can't seem to find any specific info on the forums or when I checked the FAQ.
    Thanks,

When did you install the 12.2 update? The reason that I ask is that we had a brief problem when we first uploaded the update, in which not all of the Cinema 4D components were included. That problem only lasted for a few hours, but it meant that people who updated immediately after we released the update had problems like the one that you're describing.
Try uninstalling and then re-installing After Effects. This will ensure that you are downloading the current and known-good update files.

  • After effects CS6 error file cannot be imported - this 'moov' file is damaged or unsupported

    Hi there,
    I'm working in After Effects CS6 (11.0.2.11)
I imported an AAF that was exported from Avid MC 6.5.2. I colour corrected and graded the sequence using colorista 2 and magic bullet looks and some other native AE FX.
Before exporting I decided to double check something to do with the audio. I imported the same AAF into FCP 7, took a quick look, but decided nothing needed to be done. I tabbed back to AE (which was left open), and upon returning, AE started giving me all these 'damaged or unsupported' errors.
Subsequently, AE will now not import any quicktime movies - even ones I rendered out of after effects earlier in the day (these quicktimes use ProRes422 codecs, animation codecs and other lossless codecs)
I've restarted, re-exported the AAF several times using diff settings, uninstalled perian... but to no success.
Anyone got any good ideas? I've had this happen before, where AE will import an AAF and it works first time no problem. Then something happens when I re-open the project and boom... 'moov' errors. It's really odd and very annoying - esp since it now won't import other normal quicktime movies too - with the animation codec. I have quicktime 7 pro installed and quicktime X on Mountain Lion (OS 10.8.3).

    System Details: MacPro (OS10.8.3) 2 x 2.93GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon, 24GB RAM, Radeon HD 5870 1GB

I have the exact same problem on a Mac with 10.8.3 and After Effects from the Adobe CS6 MasterCollection (AE 11.0.2.11 (german)): all of a sudden I cannot import any native QuickTime-Movies (ProRes, Animation) or even movies that use e.g. H264 in a QuickTime container. Even projects that worked 2 days ago that contain QuickTime-movies will not open anymore.
This happened 2 days ago without any action from me that I can think of that could have caused this. I did not install any new codecs or plugins, nor was there anything in the apple software update.
What I tried/checked so far (to no avail):
    disks are OK,
    file permissions are OK,
    no Firewall is blocking anything,
    deleted AE-prefs,
    removed all 3rd-party plugins,
    removed all 3rd-party codecs.
Edit: I did some further poking around, and it turns out that after deleting or resetting file permissions of the folder "~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects" AE will briefly allow you to open an existing project that contains QT-movies. If you then try to import any QT-movie you get the error message -- and after that you cannot open the project again.
This is really bad -- AE is basically unusable right now.
P.S.: The (german) error-message is this: "After Effects Fehler: Die Datei "filname.mov" kann nicht importiert werden: Datei "MooV" ist entweder beschädigt oder wird nicht unterstützt."

  • Sizing PSDS for After Effects / Preparing Illustrator files for After Effects

    3 questions
For the longest time I have been told when importing PSDs to
After effects, in order to keep circles circles (proper ratios) I had
to make a 720 540 PSD file and then crunch it down to 720 486. Then import the file to a D1 NTSC 720 486 after effects comp and everything works fine. And it does and always has
I have now been told otherwise. People claim they view in DV NTSC view
in Photoshop at 720 486 and then just import to a 720 486 DV1 After
Effects comp and everything is fine.
That view mode in Photoshop is for viewing purposes only though so this
confuses me. Sure you can sit there and stretch your picture to look
right in that mode but that doesn't make sense. Going 540 to 486 is
    quicker.
But one weird thing I noticed is if you save your PSD with the NTSC
view mode turned on it will automatically import to After Effects with
DV NTSC comp settings. Otherwise it will import into a Square Pixels
    comp.
So to simplify my questions are the following.
    1. Is there a way to avoid creating a 720 540 PSD and then crunching
down to 486? And somehow keep circles circles and photographs not
    stretched.
    2. Why does the DV viewing mode in Photoshop effect the importing into
After Effects if it's just for preview purposes?
That said I like that viewing mode in Photoshop because when I do my
720 540 to 720 486 crunch I can see that everything will look fine.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. I've been fine doing what I'm doing but for the last couple years I have been told there's a quicker way and haven't found anyone who knows.
And my final question #3 is
How do you import an illustrattor file into After Effectcs with
layers? I know how to bring sa photoshop file in with layers but everytime I import an illustrator file in , it comes in flat as one layer.
Thanks very much to those who can help.
    J.

    >Is there a way to avoid creating a 720 540 PSD and then crunching
    >down to 486? And somehow keep circles circles and photographs not
    >stretched.
Not really and then "crunching down" is very much a matter of point of view. The real question is: Can you accept the variations e.g. in antialiasing introduced by creating your work with non-square pixels in Photoshop. Apparently doing so will affect horizontal sampling more than vertical and as there is a difference in how AE and PS deal with these matters, the result would be different. It also extends to the matter of how practical it would be to work with such files if you need to move them to applications that don't provide PAR correction...
    >Why does the DV viewing mode in Photoshop effect the importing into
    >After Effects if it's just for preview purposes?
It doesn't. The people told you only half the facts. Photoshop's PAR correction is just for viewing purposes, that's true, but it does not mean that PS itself would be unable to deal with non-square pixels. Whenever you create a files based on such presets, PS will correctly embed that information for saving, hence programs like AE that are able to extract that information, will use it to correctly interpret items.
    >How do you import an illustrattor file into After Effectcs with
    >layers?
You can't. In the strict sense Illustrator has no layers, only objects and groups and since they can be infinitely combined in the funniest ways, it's a hell of a thing to read them right. Maybe in CS5 after all these years... (or even later).

  • After Effects CS6 - render files huge!

Ok I am tying myself in knots here.
I have a 7 second text animation on a plain background in After Effects CS6 which I want to export so I can use it in Premiere Pro CS6 withan alpha channel so i can superimpose it over video. The file is 1080P 25 because that matches my video. the first time I rendered it it came out at 89Mb which was fine. But I wanted to tweak the text positioning so I did that - now every time I render the file is around 1.5Gb!
I am using Windows so i can't render Quicktime with an alpha channel which means I have to use avi but what settings should I use? (Avi is the only format which allows me to export RGB + alpha).
I have to say that I have used many video programs in my life but I find After Effects the single most unituitive piece of software I have ever encountered. Why can't it give you an indication of how big your render file is likely to be to gvie youa t least some clue as to what settings to use?

    That is not correct.
You can install QuickTime on Windows and use QuickTime for output from After Effects.

  • After rendering as MOV, file won't play in Quicktime.

When I render files as MOVs or MP4s, the files will not play in Quicktime or VLC. When opened in Quicktime, a "Converting..." window pops up. After waiting for a long time, an error message shows up.
    Any suggestions?

Howdy Martin, it's a project to add the illusion of 3D to a 2D static photograph. You import a layered PSD with two layers - one monochromatic mask and the base photo. You add a displacement map to the image, tweak a few settings, add a keyframe to either end, chnage parameters and you're done. Like this After Effects TUTORIALS - How to Make 2d Image to 3D using Displacement Map (After Effects & Photoshop) - YouTube Should be relatively simple and is up to the point when I export and play it back!
Have rendered with AE directly as as well as AME.
It's odd as I've kept fiddling today and have managed to create a project that works and plays back then the next one does not, same everything! Arrrgh!

  • After effects animation Codec won't import into FCP

    Hi
I have used After Effects to do a green screen key on some HD 1080i footage.
I then went to export - quicktime movie - animation
I understand that the animation codec is the only way to export with an alpha channel so that I can put other footage in after my nice green screen key.
I set quality to best and frame rate to 25, I also tried frame rate as current and it exports and plays back fine in quicktime movie player, but won't import into final Cut.
The error message is "wrong frame rate"
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am quite new to after effects and wonder if there is something wrong with the way it is seeing the footage as I shot in widescreen and the image is squeezed as for a 4:3 TV aspect ratio.
    Thanks.
    Ajay

    1. Check your AE composition settings (cmd-k) and be sure your frame rate is set to 25... AE uses the frane rate of your composition and not the settings in your export module...
    2. Do not use the "export" command in AE... that is used only for special purposes only (i.e. for using "quicktime exporto compnents" not available under the export queue)...
    3. use the "make movie" or "add to export queue" command instead
    4. You expot module should be set as:
    - best settings
    - animation + alpha
do not specify any frame rate in the export module!! AE automatically uses the frame rate in your composition settings!!
    5. Export and import into fcp...
I never had problems with AE animation+alpha and fcp 6.0.1

  • Do they really use After Effects in movies?

I heard from a buddy yesterday that they use Adobe After Effects for high budget, theatre films!? I thought it was more low-end than that...guess I was wrong. Oh well... SHWEEEET if it's true. :)

After Effects is used in many feature films. It's used together with other tools to create and/or composite elements in a lot of visual-effects-heavy movies (like
    Sin City,
    Iron Man,
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow,
Stranger Than Fiction), but it's also used to composite together elements in movies that you don't think of as being visual-effects-heavy. The Emmy award winner for visual effects was
John Adams. Very little in the background in that movie was real. And that was done with After Effects and Photoshop. This year's Academy Award winner for animated short also used After Effects. And, of course, it's used for a
lot of title sequences and closing credit sequences.

  • Exporting to power point -- won't play some animations/.mov files

I had to export a keynote presentation to power point for a co worker.
When I open the file on a PC, I get a message saying that "PowerPoint was unable to display some of the text, images, or objects in the file because they have become corrupted. Affected slides have been replaced by blank slides in the presentation and it is not possible to recover the lost information." There is only one slide that has been unaffected -- one or two have the barest text in them, and that's only partial. The rest are completely blank.
In addition, the export created a folder with some .mov files in it. I'm guessing that at least some of these files are for an animation in the slides.
Can anyone tell me what is going on -- has anyone else gotten this message? It's PowerPoint 2007 if that makes any difference.

To begin with, exporting KN to PP, or vice-versa, often results in an inexact translation. Sometimes there is no noticable difference, but there are often problems, ranging from small to insoluble, for any number of reasons. In addition, even with the same app, PP, for instance, one on a Mac and the other on a PC, going from one OS to another sometimes results in problems. And finally, just plain transporting a presentation from one machine to another, even with the same OS, can be a problem.
It seems you have at least two problems, which should be tackled in order, and the first one is KN to PP on your Mac. Does this play fine, or are there problems? This must be answered and resolved, if possible, before going on to the PP/Mac > PP/Windows or transport part.

  • After effects not saving files!

yo after effects cs5.5 is saying warning error not able to save (file name) Why would it do this?

By "save a file" I'm guessing (since you don't provide any information at all!) that you are talking about an AE project file? Can you save it to another location on your disk?

  • After Effects rasterize ai file

I'm working in After Effects, and I imported a ai file in compositions, because I need to animate the layers.
The problem is that the vector turn into rasterize image appearance.
And I've tried to activate the continuously rasterize button, but doesn't work.
    Solutions please.

    Hi Anabela,
No worries at all, it's why we're here to help with such things. As the guys above mentioned, if you have a layer imported from AI and turn on the Continuous Rasterisation button in the switches column, AE will render that layer as sharp as the original file, no matter how big you scale the layer inside AE. So if you select the layer, hit S for scale and change the value to 1000%, the edges will still look sharp. However, if you then zoom in on the composition window as a whole — the same as you would in Photoshop to zoom in on the file and get a closer look at the artwork — then this will always "appear" pixelated as (like Photoshop) the end result of an AE comp is always pixels, for video. The only important factor is when the comp window is viewed at 100% actual size, your edges of your scaled AI layer remain sharp, and that's the purpose of the CR button (until you get into nested 3D compositions, then it has a whole extra functionality).
I hope this helps clarify any confusion you might be having? Happy to help if you have any more questions.
