my britannica profiles dinosaur multimedia cd wont work. when i try to execute it, it says "quicktime is missing or incorrectly installed". i tried "qtcheck" but to no avail. qtcheck worked for my britannica standard 2006 but not britannica profiles dinosaur. no useful help was found in britannica technical support site too. i can run the multimedia program with the pre-installed quicktime 5 and quicktime 6 but not quicktime 7. also, when i install quicktime 7, quicktime 5 will be delete automatically and i cant run the multimedia program again. anyone any idea how to fix this quicktime problem ? i want to have the multimedia program running as well as having my quicktime 7. pls help. thanks in advance ...

Hi,
I would try a Safe Boot first. (This will take longer than a normal Boot and you will need to Restart afterwards).
If it were an older OS I would also suggest going to System Preferences > Displays and making sure the display is set to Millions. (My MacBook Pro does not have this option in Snow Leopard so I did presume Snow Leopard does not have it).
With some laptops there have been some issues with the cable up the back of the screen pulling loose with regular and frequent use of the lid, but this will not apply to you based on your specs. (it does take time to appear and is also somewhat rare). However it seems enough contact with the camera can make it appear in System Profiler and power it on but not give a pic.
If a Safe Boot does not work I would also try a PRAM reset.
Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This is actually "less" destructive in that it clears less memory items than Safe Boot but they are different enough to warrant trying.
Do you have an older version of iGlasses installed ?
The one for Leopard does not work for Snow Leopard.
Do you have Web Browser open ?
This may point to Google Video Chat Plug-in and Flash Conflict. It would be rare to allow another app to access the camera even if not displayiong a Pic.
(Chrome Installs the Plug-in as does the standalone download).
Knowing what "any application" exactly you are trying might help us pin it down.
Any additional downloaded apps that can use the camera ?
Do you happen to have something balck in front of the camera ?

Z68A-GD65 G3 XMP wont work (as well as OC Genie)

Hello!
I'm having issues with getting my RAM to run with the XMP. When I activate XMP in BIOS, save the settings and restart the computer the computer will not start. It's trying to boot 1-4 times and until it reverts back to default memory profile and says that the OC settings have failed.
I've tried to set the DRAM Frequency manual with the correct voltage and timings with no luck. I've also tried each individual memory by putting them one by one with XMP enabled in the first DIMM-slot. That worked. I've also tried starting the computer with 2 out of 4 memory stick in both the 1st and 3rd as well as the 2nd and 4th DIMM-slots. The computer booted in both cases.
So, the computer wont boot with XMP enabled with all four DIMM-slots occupied. Before I had 2x4GB Corsair XMS3 cmx8gx3m2a1600c9 installed and XMP wouldn't work with those either.
When I installed the Vengeance-memory I could get OC Genie to work properly but I then decided to deactivate it and now it wont work, the computer doesn't boot.
Would be much appreciated to get these issues resolved but I'm out of ideas.

The RAM passed the default memtest with no errors at stock speed.
The computer wouldn't boot with XMP enabled, CPU I/O Voltage set to 1.110V (closest available increment) and the DRAM Voltage set to 1.655V.
I've yet to try reflashing the bios.

External isight wont work with imac g4

Hello,
I recently purchased a second hand isight camera using ebay.
I have an older imac g4 and the isight wont work with it at all.
I have scoured the forums on this topic and looked through all of EZ Jim's suggestions but I think my problem is a little bit different.
I'll explain exactly what happens and my troubleshooting so far...
The imac G4 is powered off, I plug in the external isight via firewire 400
The imac boots up into leopard 10.5.8 (using leopard assist)
In system profiler the isight is listed under the firewire tab.
( I can post system profiler info on this if its needed)
When I turn on the camera ichat launches, but then in the video tab it says no camera is connected.
Photobooth just has the no camera sign, but interestingly when ichat is opened photobooth says "camera off"
sometimes photobooth even lets me click the photo button, it counts down but then it doesnt take a picture... obviously!
Skype doesnt work.
I have an imac 24" running snow leopard 10.6.6 .... that also detects the camera but it won't work with any application such as skype or ichat.
I have tried (on my G4) unplugging my usb bluetooth module but nothing changes.
My G4 is connected via ethernet to an external router.
The firewire cable seems ok, I dont have any other firewire devices, but if it was a problem with the BUS or the cable then im guessing it wouldnt show in system profiler.
I am thinking the camera is probably damaged, but before I start a paypal enquiry I would like to see if it is just my computer or a setting i need to change.
(oh I used the application isight updater in core services but the install button is greyed out)

Well, about all you can do would be to try a different and known good
FireWire cable, as a replacement for what may be a defective FW400
cable that came with the iSight camera. The cable can be defective
with one bad wire, yet sometimes appear available to the computer.

If you know of someone with an older Mac without a built-in iSight
camera, to test that one on, this may be an OK idea. Not sure if you
could get any traction by taking the camera to an Apple Specialist
and ask if they could check it out for you; that may also cost you.
{And since your computer does not officially support Leopard 10.5,
the other avenues of support would probably not be open to you.
At least not with the old iMac G4 and an unsupported 10.5 install.}
I have an external iSight camera which was included with my G4 Mini
1.5GHz model, and that appeared to work OK with 10.5.8 at one point.
But I really have no need for it, since I don't use photobooth & so on.
And haven't tried that with my iMac G4 computers at all. No need to.
With a computer not equipped with an iSight camera, the Leopard 10.5
installation should still support the eventual addition of one; even if the
computer itself appears to not officially support a Leopard 10.5 install.
(You refer to Leopard Assist, a means to install in slower CPU Macs.)
The FW cable is about the most easy to consider at this point.
In the course of a year, I've found good replacement cables at
several places, even those at thrift stores in perfect shape, work
and I use them for FW external hard disk drives, primarily. To have
spares is nearly always a good idea. Test & keep known good ones.
I'm not certain how the external iSight FW camera may work on
a newer Intel-based 24" iMac with a built-in iSight camera, too.
Does your 24" computer have FireWire 400+800 ports? Can you
choose an external iSight camera and ignore the built-in one?

There is a possibility, if never tried and the iMac G4 computer was
acquired second-hand, that the FW port within it may be band; but
the cable is the first item since it is cheapest, in troubleshooting.
So, anyway, the hour is late here (1AM) so hopefully the matter
can be resolved with a known-good replacement FW400 cable.
You should not have to restart the iMac G4 (800?) model in order
to get a FireWire item to be recognized. It should appear in the
System Profiler's list under FireWire, such as things normally do.
Of course, the camera could be defective as well. Been some
time since they were available on sale, new from Apple...
You could ask around to find out if there is a way to use that
external iSight camera with your newer Intel-based 24" Mac
by someone having it ignore its own built-in camera; in a
way as to not affect its normal operation, that is.

I am running skype version 4.9.0.45564, samsung galaxy s3 android o.s 4.3
When i connect to skype on my android phone over 3g/4g it works no problem. i sign in and a connection is made and it shows i am avalaible.
when i am on wifi i can not sign in. my status is shown as offline (i cant select the "avaliable" option in my profile). I dont receive messages unless i go into the app. The notification bar on my phone shows "Not connected"
I have tried signing out and signing back in but it wont work. I close out the app and still cant get connected. I have even cleared the cache, uninstalled the app and reinstalled it and I still can not make a connection over wifi.
Does the skype app not work over wifi?

Asha 301 phone - headset wont work

Ok. So I purschased this Nokia 301 here the other day. Today it arrived at my local post office, and i picked it up. When I wrapped it up and charged it up, i discovered the headphones in the box wont work - my phone wont detect them. It seems like they arent there. And the phone was new when I tried the headset, so dirt and dust havent found its way into my phone.

I had the same problem. I figured a way to make it work.
Your phone have to be on the Music Player mode. If you put it on the homepage, the headset control doesn't work. You can still lock you phone though.
The go to setting>phone>accessories>Headset, set default profile to "General" or the profile you are using. Turn on automatic answer. Then set headset as default in accessory settings.

CL3 Memory wont work on Intel 848P Neo Mainboard? any help?

I purchased Kingston DDR Ram recently and put it into my computer. It worked fine but sometimes I start computer up and it comes up with a message saying something is wrong with the memory timings. I dont think it is configured properly.
In the BIOS there was an option to "CONFIGURE DRAM TIMING BY SPD" and i set that on ENABLED. If i set it to DISABLED then there are other options that I have to set.
These options are as follows:
1. CAS# Latency [Options 2 or 2.5 Clocks];
2. RAS# Precharge [Options 2, 3 or 4 Clocks];
3. RAS# to CAS# Delay [Options 2, 3 or 4 Clocks];
4. Precharge Delay [Options 5, 6, 7 or 8 Clocks];
5. Burst Length [Options 4 or 8 Clocks].
These are the 5 settings i can modify and in the "[]" brackets are the options i can select from for each one. Could you please tell me how I am to configure this in order for the memory to work. The Ram voltage is set at 2.6v. The CAS# Latency only allows 2 or 2.5 clocks so im not sure if thats the problem or not.
The specifications of my computer as as follows:
RAM - Kingston KVR400X64C3A/1G 1GB PC3200 CL3 184
Motherboard - MSI 848P Neo (MS-6788 v1.0)
Motherboard BIOS - A67991MS v1.0081203
Motherboard firmware - V1.0 initial release
CPU - Pentium 4 2.53Ghz
Regardless of the settings I have done so far, if it works past POST and loads windows...after sometime it randomly resets. Any idea why this is the case? I suspect its the CAS Latency. The manual says you can select 3 Clocks but i dont see that option, just 2 or 2.5

The Kingston Site is not always correct or to be more precise: it does not state the operating conditions under which DDR-400 is possible on this mainboard. In this cases the problem is not the modules as such (they are able to run @DDR-400) if they are put into a system that supports that.
In your case the problem is the mainboard's chipset which can only make the memory run @DDR-400 when an FSB-200-MHz processor is installed. You are currently using an FSB-133-MHz processor. With such a processor, the maximum memory clock speed that the system can run at is DDR-333. I just checked the Intel Datasheet for the 848P Chipset. That is also the reason why all DDR-400 modules mentioned in the official MSI Memory Test List for this mainboard were tested with an FSB-200-MHz-CPU installed.
The only thing you can do to get aroung this "problem" is to install a supported FSB-200-MHz-processor.

It would probably be there once a processor is installed that will enable higher memory clock speeds than DDR-333. However, the actual CAS latency is only of secondary importance here. The main question is why DDR-400 is not possible (which would automatically yield a CAS Latency of 3 by settings the values in the corresponding SPD Profile). And as I said: DDR-400 is only possible with an FSB-200-MHz-Processor.
With your current configuration, the highest possible memory speed is DDR-333 @2.5-3-3-7. In case that runs fine & stable everything is working as it should.

Ipod is recognised under my computer but wont work in itunes,

My ipod worked fine on my old computer i dont think i had the most recent itunes but everything was working fine i had windows XP. Now i have a new laptop with windows 7 and my ipod wont work in itunes, i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 9 and even tried itunes 8 but nothing seemed to help the situation, i know its not the cable as it shows under my computer, i have taken all my music off the ipod because it asked to reformat it i have tried that twice, i get the message your ipod needs to be reformatted for windows i click ok and it opens itunes but nothing happens, iv downloaded the 64 bit itunes as it doesnt like the 32 bit one. Iv ran a diagnostic test on my ipod but cant get past the firewire detect and usb detect maybe this is because i dont have itunes installed at the moment, any suggestions please?

I had the same problem with my iPod classic. I got a new laptop that has windows 7 and downloaded itunes 9. As soon as itunes 9 was downloaded my ipod would not be recognised anymore. I tried everything like reformatting etc and nothing was helping. What I did was downloaded itunes 7 and my ipod was then recognised. Your problem may be that your software on your ipod is not up to date enough to run on itunes 9 (that was the problem with mine) and may also not be up to date enough to run on itunes 8. Try itunes 7 (or if that doesn't work even itunes 6) then once your ipod is recognised go to the summary page on your ipod and update your software to the current version. Once i did this my ipod was recognised on itunes 9 when i plugged it in and worked perfectly. Hope this helps!

Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings. This will erase your device. Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your device was new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

k, so I tried installing the new update for itunes and now it wont work at all. it says that the mobile device isnt installed. i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 4 times now.

Yes I'm aware of that. The procedures are also for trying in cases where iTunes can't be reinstalled due to a "Could not start Apple Mobile Device service" message.
If you're getting a different error message relating to the Apple Mobile Device Service (or Apple Mobile Device Support) when you try to reinstall iTunes, post back to let us know what that error message says. (Precise text, please.)
