Broadband connect using Treo 700p

I'm now in the market for both a new Mac (MacBook Pro 17" HD), and a new mobile device (Treo 700p seems best). Quite the exciting time, 2 new toys in one year... the wife must love me alot to allow this!
My question: The Verizon Wireless Treo 700p is *supposed to* both sync & run wireless broadband for the Mac devices... In anyone's own experiences, DOES IT REALLY RUN THE WIRELESS BROADBAND WELL?
Here's the tragic comedy... I work for Verizon Wireless. All of our tech support guys are diehard Windows users, so getting an answer out of them is about as comical as the Mac vs. PC ads. "I dunno, I guess it should work, that's what the manual says" isn't much comfort when shelling out $400 for the Treo. Buying a PC is not an option.
Any input... greatly appreciated.

It appears that there are some trouble with the 700p disconnecting during short periods of no inet traffic.

It's the same username and password as in the web access point settings in your phone. You'll see the username but not the password, though. Contact your operator for that.

  • Using Treo 700p with Palm Desktop 4.1.4e

Does anyone know if it is possible to sync a Treo 700p with Palm Desktop 4.1.4e on Windows XP via USB?
I have a client that upgraded from a 600 to a 700p but prefers PD 4.1.4e over PD 6.2 due to the lack of colour categories and the increased sync time experienced in 6.2.
Thanks for any insight on the situation that anyone can provide.

  • I can download a movie faster over my broadband connection using my ATV3 than the same movie over my LAN

I can't believe the poor performance of my networked iTunes setup. It has deteriorated over the past 12 months or so such that a purchased movie (HD Dark Knight Rises) can be downloaded from iTunes directly to my ATV3 faster than my n-based network at home even when i wire using 1Gb ethernet! My network connection is via cable, but it still utilises the sme WIFI connection to get to my ATV3 - How can this be?
I has seen various threads that talk about reseting the network, the ATV's, iTUnes, restarting my iMAC etc. none of which has any effect anymore (it did appear to previously).
I have iMAC to host iTunes, MacBook, 2 x ATV2 and 1 x ATV3, 2 x Airport Express for audio, 2 x iPad, 2 x iPod, 1 x iPhone 4S and 1 x iPhone 5 so it is safe to say that i am pretty heavily invested in Apple and I love the products but the more invested i become the more dissappointed. It is a real shame that regression testing does not seem to be high on their agenda these days.
If there are any bright ideas out there i would love to hear them cos i have run out for now..............
    Thanks
    SB

From my Airport Extreme, throughout my network (other than my cable router) everything is Apple, I update when patches become available. I check using iStumblr what conflicts there might be. Basically, other than the network being in my house it is as close to being the defacto Apple setup as it could be (notwithstanding my applications which are not that numerous).
Furthermore why can the same network enable me to stream from the iTunes store the same movie across the same network faster than on my local LAN where the only difference is going to be the location from where the data is "served". Especially when everything has worked in the past.
You are correct though in many respects given that the term network is loosely attributed to everything from the cable through WIFI and the chipset and firmware. So generically it is likely to be the "network" or an attribute of it. It would appear however that my issues coincided with a firmware upgrade, I would be very happy to uninstall and go back to previous versions to solve my problem but it isn't possible and I have no intention of jailbreaking my devices. If I could then i would nail the problem and inform Apple of my findings.
So, given that I am entrely Apple, that I install all firmware updates across all products and that I check for network interference............
Hence the reason for the post.

  • Can I use a wireless router to share a USB broadband connection

Hi - I have an emac or a mac minin which have a USb boradband modem. I use airport from the emac to allow me to connect from an airport enabled powerbook when it is at home.
Rather than getting an airport card for the mac mini, could I use that as the primary conection to the internet (via the USB modem) and then get a wirless router (eg netgear MR814) an I use a wireless router to share the USB broadband connection to the 2 airport enabled macs?
    Or do I either:
    1) need to get airport for the Mac Mini
    or
    2) Get a ethernet modem to plug into the wireless router
    Any advice appreciated?

  • Odd lockup using Bluetooth to get to Web with a Treo 700p

Getting to the web with my Verizon Treo 700p is better with Leopard than it was with Tiger. (For instructions on how to do this see http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=215) However I do get odd behavior. If the connection is lost (not sure if it the blutetooth or the web connection) and I attempt to reconnect, sometimes the "Connecting" in the title bar starts to scroll left to right and freezes. The fan on the MacBook starts to crank up and the machine is minimally responsive. I could not quit any apps. Could not even force quit. Oddly, turning off bluetooth on the phone gave me control of the Mac back. I thought I would mention this in case any one else has seen this and if there should be a fix in the works by someone. It is odd that a bluetooth device can have this level of control over the computer.

Thought I should resolve this one. Seems I needed to upgrade the OS on the Treo. Apparently there was a minor release which fixed the issue (so minor that the only change in the version number is an underscore!) Works much better since the treo upgrade.

  • Connecting to broadband network using blue tooth d...

Is it possible to connect a N-93 or any N-series phone to broadband network of PC using bluetooth dongle installed in the P C. ? If yes how. If no why
If my post has helped you please click the white star on the right

    Hi,
    Goodday.
all hp which has GPRS/EDGE/3G are capable of connecting via ur pc. there r 2 ways,
    1. when u launch ur bluetooth on ur pc, there wud several option on what services u want to use. the internet connection shud be BLUETOOTH DUN CONNECTION. once u launchd it, ur required to enter the user name, password, and dial-up num. these 3 info need to be obtaind frm ur network provider. charges will depend on ur networks mobile data charges.
    2. if theres no such option, go to control panel>network connections>create new connection>connect to the internet>setup conection manually> connect using dial-up modem> select ur hp as modem> enter user name, password, dial up num>finish.
then u'llbe able to connect to the net depending on ur networks speed.

  • Versamail on Treo 700p using Verizon WIreless/ Mac Mail

I have recently purchased a Palm Treo 700p and am attempting to set up the email in Versamail (comes with Treo). I use .Mac as my main email. I have set up the account with Mail Service as Apple Mac, Protocol as IMAP, Username (mac id), password (mac password), incoming mail server is mail.mac.com. This works fine for receiving mail. However, I can't find the right combination for the Outgoing mail server. I'm trying outgoing.verizon.net without any luck. Have trid to put in the authentication under my Verizon account username and Password. Am not getting the 530 Authentication error message, but instead am getting "the server did not recognize you username/password".
Which username/password would the SMTP verizon server be looking for???
Any other thoughts (this is way too hard...)
    thx
    SJW

I somehow managed to reply twice to the same thread. Strange. It's obviously too late at night to be doing this…
So, since I cannot delete this second message and it's now too late to modify it, I have posted yet a third to clarify information that did not appear in the first but was included in the second:
Your issue arises because your .Mac account does not reside in the Verizon domain. The Verizon server is looking for something like [email protected] [or something similar] and a matching password. By switching from the Verizon smtp to server to the .Mac smtp server, which you are routed to via your Verizon-provided pathway, you should be able to send mail.
Okay, that does it. Now I'm off to get some apparently much needed sleep.

  • Treo 700P and WiFi?

I'm interested in getting a Treo 700P and from what I've read it seems like it'll do everything I need it to, especially when using The Missing Sync by Mark/Space.
My only problem is I want to be able to connect to the Internet and check my email using a traditional wireless network found at most "technology savvy" hotels.
I know I can sign up for this capability for an extra $40/month, but quite frankly I'm not willing to pay that for the little amount of time I'll use this feature. That said, what solutions are available to me? Does Palm make a seperate WiFi card for the 700P? Should I be looking at something else?

The 700p will definitely do everything you want, but offer WiFi connectivity. The EvDO data connection is no where near as fast, though much faster than second generation technologies. Fourth generation network technologies are beginning to appear already to replace EvDO, and WiMAX will be available widely for client use is less than twelve months. WiMAX is real broadband speed using extended ethernet technology, though it will not be initially deployed as widely as cellular technologies like EvDO.
What you want to do at the moment just cannot be accomplished with a Palm smartphone other than the Palm 700w or 700wx. It's too bad, because Entourage is not the only issue - you should take a look at the Windows Mobile Explorer browser before ever seriously considering the use of such a device. And Windows Mobile defeats AvantGo synchronization, internet sharing and synchronization via WiFi as a security measure, and even the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile cannot override this inherent limitation.

  • MacBook Pro, BlueTooth Fax Modem with Treo 700p EVDO

MacOSX 10.4.6 w/ all of the latest Software Updates.
    I followed the steps below:
    1. In System Preferences, go to Print & Fax
    2. Open the Printer Browser (click "+" in the Printing tab)
    3. Option-click on "More Printers"
    4. Select "Advanced" in the popup list
    5. Select "Bluetooth-modem" from the "Device" popup that appears
    6. Select "Other" from the "Printer Model" menu
    7. In the "Choose file" dialog go to System>Library -> Frameworks -> ApplicationServices.framework -> Frameworks -> PrintCore.framework -> Resources -> English.lproj -> Fax.ppd. Note that you can replace English.lproj with the language of your choice.
    8. Finally, click Add
Then to FAX...I did the following...
    Texedit.App
    File -> Print...
and selected the PDF Fax Option.
It acted like it was dialing the fax number (xxx-xxx-xxxx), the Treo 700p lit up like it was receiving the commands, but nothing happened. I couldn 't even get it to dial a normal PSTN number.
Is there something else I need to do?

Apparently there is a fee for using any Treo device as a modem through both Verizon and Sprint. While the easy connectivity of Bluetooth is attractive, most people are interested in attaching the Treo via USB for the data speed transfer factor. After heavy research to attempt to connect my iBook G4 to the internet via the Treo 700p without having to pay Verizon's $15 surcharge, I came across USB Modem. USB Modem supports connecting your Mac to the Internet using the Treo 600, 650 and 700p. And instead of paying $15 monthly, this application is only $25 and offers a free trial to make sure it is compatible with your phone and Mac. But FYI...you have to have the 700p to take advantage of the EVDO broadband network.

  • Palm Treo 700p Cannot install. Windows Vista looking for Drivers

Installed Palm software and synced on my Dell with no issues.
Went to install on 2nd PC with Windows Vista Home.  Issues.  Got new download for Vista 32 and downloaded off site.
Same error puts me in a circle.  System finds new hardware.  Looks to install driver.  Can't find Drive on CD or Hardrive and so keeps in loop.  Cannot finish 1st "sync" without driver so install does not complete.
    Please advise:
Can I use the Palm device on two seperate PC's (One on NT running fine..now adding Vista Home).
How do I get the drive installed?
How do I be sure NOT to overwrite the data on the Palm when I sync the 1st time on the 2nd pc.
    Thanks
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Verizon)

Hello jpmill2 and welcome to the Palm forums.
    1. Please make sure that your Windows Vista account is a member of the Administrators group.  I would also be sure to check that antivirus software is disabled during the install process.
    2. You can use the Treo 700p with more than one computer.  I sync my Treo with my office PC running Windows XP SP2 and my Vista Business SP1 machine at home.  (And a Mac, just for good measure.)
    3. The USB driver for the Treo 700p is obtained by installing Palm Desktop 4.2 (bundled on the Treo 700p software disc) or by installing Palm Desktop 6.2 by ACCESS for Windows [Vista].  You should install the software first, and then connect the Treo after the install is complete. If prompted to HotSync during the install, I aways Skip it.
    4. If you Skip the HotSync during the Palm Desktop isntall, you can create a new HotSync ID on the computer with the same name as the HotSync ID on your Treo.  Then set the conduits to Handheld overwrites Desktop and then sync.
    Hope that helps,

  • Why does Windows think my Treo 700p is a Treo 680?

I have gone through a long , frustrating fruitless attempt to get my Palm Treo 700p to connect to my new Windows Vista computer.  here are the steps I have gone through...
Palm not connected to computer yet
    1. run "PalmDesktopWIN62"
    2. select english
    3. install shield extracts a whole bunch of stuff
    4. "welcome to the installshield wizard for palm desktop by ACCESS"
    5. press next
    6. accept EULA
    7. download latest settings from internet
    8. complete download, install
    9. install tells me windows media player is in use when it is not...how do i close something that is already closed?
    10. create desktop shortcut
    11. congratulations! you have installed the palm desktop. now configure the sync software and perform your first hotsync
    12. enter a new user name (God forbid it be able to get that off the Palm itself...now i have to remember what name i used before)
    13. configuring and restaring hotsync
    14. connect USB
    15. WINDOWS HAS FOUND NEW HARDWARE!!! imagine that! it asks me to locate and install driver software.
    16. ignore annoying windows message and press the hotsync button
    17. "connecting with the desctop using cable"
    18. still waiting for it to connect
    19. still waiting
    20. imagine that...it didn't connect.
    21. ok...now i'll try to locate and install the driver software (didn't i do that in step 1?)
    22. "installing device driver software" ... "insert the disk that came with you palm handheld"
    23. yell at the top of my lungs "IF THAT WERE AN OPTION I WOULD HAVEW ALREADY DONE THAT YOU STUPID PALM DEVICE!!!"
    30. after much searching, windows tells me that my Palm Treo 680 is not compatable with Vista. too bad I have a Palm 700p, not a 680.
    31. yell at computer again.
so...given that my computer thinks I am plugging in an uncompatable device to my computer...i am outta luck.
since I do not have a disk that Vista finds acceptable, how do I get the driver online I need?

Have you put it into a different USB port than usual? it could be the autoplay settings.
You can check by right clicking the start button, click control panel then double clicking Default Programs then choosing auto play settings, the option will be under removable drives, alter it to whatever suits your needs.

  • Treo 700p sync on Macintosh

Has anyone been able to successfully sync a Palm Treo 700p (Verizon) with a Mac?

I was able to successfully sync the Treo 700p (Sprint) on a MacBook Pro 15" by installing the latest Mac Palm Desktop Software (not available for 700p yet, so I downloaded the 650 version) and followed installation instructions, restarted, then opened iSync. In iSync, I enabled Palm OS Device under the Device Menu and then opened Hot Sync (in Applications folder) and in "Conduit Settings" double-click iSync conduit and check off enable for this device. Now your Treo will show in iSync and you can set your settings in iSync and click Sync (need to press hot sync button on Treo if using Bluetooth connection). Hope this helps!
