Broadband connection rate very low

Hello,
around about the start of August 2011 my connection started to drop out frequently. Before this began to happen my connection had been around 2000kb to 2500kb since installation.
i have reported the fault twice and both times I have been informed that the issues has been fixed but i have recieved no change in my connection or the behavour of the line the home hub stats are as follows

and a test with BT speedtest reveals the following
Download speedachieved during the test was - 222 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :320 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 250 Kbps
The results above are a good day with the connection often the connection rate is 100-150kb
I have only 1 telephone socket in my house which my home hub is connected to. i have also connected into the test socket with no change in the connection rate.
When I do a line check from my neighbours computer the results read that this issue is known to BT. also if I check my neighbours line from my computer it reports this issue is also known to BT.
My neighbour and i have the same issues with our broadband connection at the minute. So this just confirms to me that the issue is beyond our homes.
I am almost at the end of my teather with this issue as my internet is unseable most days
i hope someone can help me.
Chris

if bothe you and your neighbour are having the same problems then would appear to require an engineer.  contact the mods for assistance  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

  • Strange problem with broadband. Speed very low.

    Hi all,
From last Friday I encountered really big problems with my broadband as the speed go dramatically down. I don't know what may be the reason, I'm using HomeHub and between it and computers in my household everything is fine. I haven't heard about any fixes round Aberdeen so have completely no clue what is going on.
Do you have any clue what can cause the problem, for more than 3 years everything was just great. Maybe my HomeHub is old and faulty, it is the 1st gen, white one.
I post speedtest results and ADSL info:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 134 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 4000-21000 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :18761 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 888 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 16000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 0.0:75.22:25.5 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 692 Kbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 888 Kbps

    Update.
First, do you always get reply from MODS? Today my connection dropped and after a while it was on again, I found my SN Margin reset to 6.5 and better bandwith 1205 / 19832 but the speed didn't improve at all. It is 24h since I've sent notice to MODS and I will wait another 24h before contacting them again. What really worries me is FEC Errors field in my ADSL Line details. Last time after 4 days it was 245'000, now after 6 hours I have more than 750'000. Is that normal after connection drop? I've checked speed using this speedcheck provided and my profile is still the same, 16000kbs
UPDATE:: 40 minutes past, 35 MB more dowloaded and 100'000 FEC Errors more :/

What is going on with my BT Broadband speed...?
Download 0.25 Mbs and up load of 0.09 mbs..
    This just can't be right...?
    Frustrated subscriber..  Glenn :-(

I moved you post to start a new thread as previous one was marked as solved by originator
welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Frequently Dropping Broadband Connection- Amber an...

Hi, This is my first post of this forum as it looks like a place I might get some help on the problem I have had for months, I will try to explain my problem as much as I can.
Well it started when I came back from my holiday around 5 months ago, never thought much of it until when I started to browse the net it would come up saying ssl error and take me to bt wizard sort of thing say Can't Connect To Broadband with the amber/purple light flashing. it is enough to boot me of everthing skype chat, xbox live browsing and is getting really annoying. there is no pattern when it does just complete randomess when it does do it.
I have been on the phone with bt several times with just no luck, i thought i got somewhere when they put we through to engineer department or whatever it was called and heard nothing since, i have changed the microfilters checked power cables, don't think it is the router really, i am just completly stuck on what is happening so any help would be amazing.
it is also showing this error in the event log which I don't have a clue what it means.
    WAN connection WAN1_INTERNET_B_ATM2_0_35 disconnected.[ERROR_NO_CARRIER]
thanks for taking time to read this and I really hope you can help.

    Hi JasonKirk2013,
Sorry to hear that your  having issues with your BT Retail services.
You will either be on the ADSLMax (upto 8mbps) service or if your exchange has been BTw 21cn upgraded you maybe on the ADSL2/2+ (upto 12/20mbps) service depending on your line quality and length.
However these upto speeds may not be the speeds you will get as ADSL broadband connections are very dependent on the distance from your property to the exchange and the quality of your line. The further away you are from your local exchange the slower your broadband speed will be.
To enable the community to help you please see the advice below:
Please see Keith's help guide here: Helping forum members to help you, it will go through some checks that are needed for us to help you.
A summary of the checks are:
1a) Is your router/Homehub connected by a BT NTE5 master socket, Adsl Filtered Master Socket or Extension Socket?   Please bear in mind that extension cables and extension sockets can reduce the broadband's performance. If you have an Old LJU master socket then please say.
1b) Have you tried the Test Socket? - if you have one.
    2) Can you please run a BT speed test (including IP Profile) http://speedtest.btwholesale.com (not beta version)[Best done with a wired, Ethernet, connection] After Quick Test is done you need to click "Further Diagnostics" to get IP Profile.
    3) is there any noise on your line. dial 17070 option2 ,called quite line test, from landline phone. should be silent but slight hum normal on cordless phone.
    4) please post adsl line statistics
    5) does the distconnections happen when you use the landline phone?
    ADSL Line Statistic Help:
If you have a BT Home Hub like the one below...
     Then:
     1) Go to http://192.168.1.254 or http://bthomehub.home
     2) click Settings
     3) Click Advanced Settings
     4) Click Broadband
     5) Click Connection or sometimes called ADSL (see picture Below)
The direct Address is http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9116 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 1.3)
or http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9118 (for bthomehub3.A firmware ending in 94.1.11)
You will need to copy and past all the adsl line statistics ( Including HEC, CRC and FEC errors). You may need to click " More Details"
If you have a HomeHub 4 then the majority of the ADSL Stats shown in the previous Hubs will not be there.
for HH4 users you can go to hub manager then select troubleshooting then logs and are look for 2 entries together which will show theconnection speed and noise margin for when your HH4 last sycned with the exchange.
There are more useful links on Keith's website here: If you have an ADSL connection, please select this link

  • Another very low broadband speed connection

    Hello all.
Got the BT Home Hub3 installed last November and was pleased with 4.5-5Mb speed but since around Christmas the speed seemed to continually halve until right now it is consistently around 0.4Mb.
There has been no other installations relating to the phone line either.
I have tried disconnecting other devices using the phone plus reconnecting the router to the other phone socket but no difference and gone through the simple troubleshooting advice.
    Here are Hub settings-

  • Very low Transmit Rates

I am experiencing very low transmit rates when using the 5GHz band. It goes down to Transmit rates of 56, and when i use the 2.4 n only it's still low at 90-117, I think it's really effecting my download speeds on the Apple TV when we're renting HD movies. It says it'll take and hour to be ready to play. Do you think that our Time Capsule is faulty?

On 2.4 GHz band, the link-speed (transmit rate) you are getting is average.
However, when you downloading a rental movie, the bottleneck is your broadband connection.
Have seen Apple's published figures on buffering time before you can start watching an HD movie?
    http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html#movierentals
Most people have a broadband speed between 2Mbps - 768kpbs, so the wait time is somewhere between 2 - 8 hours.
IMO, your TC is working correctly, there is nothing to worry about.

  • Very low IP profile + connection keeps dropping

I started having problems with my connection speed over in December 2010, we had a connection speed of 135kbps for 10 days.  This was then resolved and we had an IP profile of about 2mbps for 3 months.
Since April my IP profile has varied between 135 and 350kbps. The error reported in April was simply cleared from My BT without any resolution to the problem and we have been living with these low speeds for months.
Last Friday (8 July 2011) the connection disappeared altogether and I phoned BT to log a new fault. We use a homehub 2 and have a wired connection to a PC. It seemed possible that either the cable or socket on the home hub was faulty and after I swopped that out broadband connection was reestablished.
We have only one telephone socket on this line, which is fitted with the special plate with 2 ports one for the telephone and the other for the router. During the 2 hours spent on the phone on Friday I unscrewed this front plate and am now connected using a microfilter to the test socket behind.
The line connected at 3776kbps downstream but we only have an IP profile of 350kbps. I was informed that BT second line support would ring back the next day to help further. They did so  , said they were restting things at the exchange which would take 3-4 hours and it should all be stable 24 hours later. They promised to phone back to check the next day. I have heard nothing further from BT.
My IP profile remains at 350kbps. After reading comments on this forum I found the stats on the home hub manager and we had continuous connection for almost 4 days with the IP profile remaining at 350kbps. Unfortunately yesterday the connection dropped and reconnected at least 3 times, and today has done the same at least twice. Each time it reconnects at very similar downstream speeds of between 3.6mbps and 3.8mbps. IP profile remains 350k.
I emailed BT yesterday re the problem and have had no contact apart from the automatic acknowledgement. i have included all the stats I can think of as relevant including the current post in My BT fault tracking.
As my connection seems to keep dropping ( I have not manually reset the hub since July 8th whilst on phone to India) then it seems unlikely we will ever reach the magic 5 days to have an IP profile restored.
One last thing, we are located only about 0.5 miles from the local exchange.
I would really appreciate help in sorting this out.

Connection dropped again while I was not at home this morning, so back to only an hour since last reset. I have copied an extract of the event log from the hub again around the time it happened.
The event " danube_dsl_ioctl:88: Failed ioctl ... " seems to be appearing in my homehub event log several times in the minute or two preceeding the homehub disconnecting and resetting.  Presumably this has some meaning and could help identify my problem?
I did receive a phone call from India yesterday (13th July) assuring me that my emails had been received and escalated, and that someone who could help with my problems would phone by 15th July. But if I hadn't been contacted by 15th I should definitely phone BT again!

Why is it that when I connect my iPhone 5S to my Windows Vista computer, the photos made with my iPhone are all of very low quality and most of them are turned upside down?
On another note, the iPhone tells me that it's ''busy'' when opening a photo on the computer.
(I tried restarting my PC, connecting via another USB port, importing using PhotoStream, etc...)

Are you using the front or rear camera? When you say they are low quality, are you referring to file/pixel size, or how the picture looks? As far as upside down, how are you holding the phone? Older versions of Windows have issues reading the Metadata from the pictures and will not display the same.

I have worked my way through the assistant and nothing works. I have tried connecting in disc mode but although the screen on the ipod is showing that the device is charged and that it is in disc mode as soon as I connect it to the computer it comes up with the error message 'please wait very low battery' and stays like that until I disconnect when it appears to be OK again. I have tried on both pc and mac.
BTW the ipod is an ipod video not classic if that makes any difference.

I'm afraid you'll have to get the phone serviced, dropping the phone must have damaged additional parts inside the phone.
But Apple will not service the phone anymore, opening the phone and replacing the battery should only be done by authorized personal, not by users.
You'll have to look for a 3rd party repair shop and see if they can fix this, sorry.

If a restore did not fix it, you have a hardware issue--possible bad wi-fi radio.

    Dear sir
Thank you very much. I am not a computer davy. still I ail try to explain. I am in Chennai India. My service provider is BSNL. I have a broadband connection wit 4 mb speed - though I get only 3 to 3.3 mb. The TC is connected to the modem *** router through ethernet in wired LAN1 socket. My iMac is connected to the modem in LAN2 socket through either net. Though the TC is permanently connected to the modem-router, it gets connected to the internet only if it is shown in the dock. If it is exited from the doc, it loses internet connection. I tried factory reset. Still the same problem. Therefore, unless the iMac is open and the Tc is shown in the dock, TC is not connected to the internet. Therefore all the time iMac need to be open and running. I hope, eih little knowledge I have explained. Thank you
    S KANNAN
    IRS(RETD)

The TC is perhaps in the wrong mode..
If you have a modem router the TC should be connected by ethernet and the computer plugged into the TC not the modem.
TC will be in bridge mode.. but it can lose connection on a daily basis.. if you have that issue downgrade the firmware as later firmware is not reliable.
I recommend 7.6.1 but the earlier ones are better on 7.5.2 .. anything more than 18mths old should go back to 7.5 firmware.

If it's slow on startup it would be extensions loading or LaunchDaemons starting up.
You should have a look in:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/Extensions
You can count out anything in your home folder and it shouldn't put anything in /System as that's reserved for Apple.

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPOd. Noting will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router.
    - Reset network settings: Setings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • Very Low Bit Rate!!!

Ok, iTunes is not the best program of the computer planet music, far away…
All music sites offering the possibility to choice the format and downloading with a quality what we wants, no iTunes Store, WHY? I have professional equipment and disgust me to listen my music in 256kb very (LOW BIT RATE).
I spend the max in the MacBook Air (the best configuration), the must of sound card etc. for what??? It’s time to change and make a true revolution on iTunes and iTunes Store. For ex: when we listening one song on iTunes, the folder don’t come to the principal window if you are in artist’s mode! We need to search in the library to find the folder and get information or modify something!

Is the file stored in iTunes as a music file?
If so then the one way of getting it on your phone would be to convert it to a podcast or audiobook, which I believe will work.
It isn't a full conversion as such, all you do is change a tag in "get info".
Another way would be to choose "create AAC version" which should make it eligible.
I understand why you don't want to do this sort of messing around, but nfortunately at this stage in the release there are still lots of these sort of issues, most of which will likely be resolved in the next few updates.
If you don't want to do those steps then another option would be to turn match off until these issues get fixed. Obviously, we have no idea of timescales (or if that particular issue will ever get addressed). There are enough people being affected by it that I'd be surprised if it isn't a reasonably high priority though.
