Broadband Dropping connection, fixed but now gamin...

Last Sunday our broadband connection was dropping every 15 or so minutes, I called BT and reported the fault. The lady asked me to remove the cover from our BT wall socket and plug the ADSL modem into a diagnostic socket but there was no socket visible after removing the wall plate. She then did a line check and confirmed a problem with the line at the house and an engineer would call me at 9am the next day.
9am on the dot I got a call from the same lady asking if the problem still persisted as they had made some changes. I left a ping test running which gave me a 100% success rate over 20 or so minutes (previous day it was 19% success rate over the same time). So she said they think its fixed and to keep an eye on the line over the next few days.
So, I think the line noise has been cleared up (about 8 months ago I asked for interleaving to be disabled), so the broadband isn't dropping it's connection but now my gaming pings have gone up and latency is awfull, I play Call of Duty Black Ops almost every night so any change in my connection is quite noticicble. People kill me before I even see them and its so frustrating that I can't play like this, not good when your in a clan.
I assume they put Interleaving back on to fix the problem of dropping connections? but now the older gaming problem is back.
Any help is much appreciated.

your noise margin is still a bit high at 12 as normal is about 6 and when the margin drops you should be up to 8mb being max for adslmax
can you run btspeedtester and post the results

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

BT Broadband Dropping Connection

I have been using my boradband since january with no problems at all.But now the hub v2 drops the connection every 5-10 minutes.I had bt perform a line test and they said that everything seemed to be ok.I tried another router and the problem was the same.I tried the test socket and this was ok too.I replaced an adaptor which I thought might be the problem and it seemed to of worked for a while but then it stared doing it again.
It is a wired connection and my speeds are the same as always.
Can someone help please. I have added this info below if this helps...

Sounds like a spanner in the works here.
Could you have look through this link for me as there is some good info here on devices around the home that can cause this sort of thing.
Are the drops impacting your download speed/IP profile?
Run a test via www.speedtester.bt.com and post your hub stats from http://bthomehub.home and we'll see whats up.

IPhone 3G won't connect to wifi, it's been connected before but now it won't work, the iTouch connects with no problem, it's just the phone. I've tried resetting it, updating it, and everything and still no luck.

I have a iPhone 3G that is running 3.1 and about 2 days ago, it was fine, connecting to wifi and everything. But now, it won't even find any networks? I've tried going to public places (I.E. McDonald's) and other places that have free wifi, and it can't detect the wifi, Why won't my phone find my home wifi now? I've tried resetting the network settings, I've reset the entire phone, i've done about everything all the other posts talked about. Anyone else got an idea?

I have, yes. I've been shutting it down by holding the sleep/wake key and the home button, aswell. Then I go in and reset network settings and I just get back to it not finding any wifi around. It has the little searching sign, but it just keeps going with nothing showing up.

Messed up permissions, then fixed but now disk utility repair perm greyed..

So I had changed ownership and permissions on an eternal drive, then couldnt see it so I typed the following in terminal to fix:
chmod 775 "/Volumes/volumename/"
That worked, but now when I go into disk utility, both the verify and the repair disk permissions are greyed out on that drive.
Any ideas?

Those commands will only be available if the drive has a bootable Mac OS X system. If the drive is set to ignore ownership or permissions, select it in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and turn the option off.

Firefox was downloading at about 45-60 kbs, which is fast for my connection, just a few days ago, but now im lucky if it downloads at 20 kbs, what can I do to get my download speeds back to what they were? And I have already freed up space on my computer until I now have 50.8 GB of free space

here are some Tips&Tricks that can help you double the speed of Firefox.
1. Type about:config in the address bar and then press Enter.
2. In the filter search bar type network.http.pipelining. Be sure the value field is set true,if not double-click to set true.
HTTP is the application-layer protocol that most web pages are transferred with. In HTTP 1.1, multiple requests can be sent before any responses are received. This is known as pipelining. Pipelining reduces page loading times, but not all servers support it.
3. Go back to the filter search bar and type network.http.pipelining.maxrequests. Double-click this option and set its value to 8.
4. In the filter search bar and type network.http.proxy.pipelining. Once opened double-click on it and set it to true.
5. In IPv6-capable DNS servers, an IPv4 address may be returned when an IPv6 address is requested. It is possible for Mozilla to recover from this misinformation, but a significant delay is introduced.
Type network.dns.disableIPv6 in the filter search bar and set this option to true by double clicking on it.
6. CONTENT INTERRUPT PARSING
This preference controls if the application will interrupt parsing a page to respond to UI events. It does not exist by default.
Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window, select New and then Boolean from the pop-up menu. Then:

A. Enter content.notify.backoffcount in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
B. You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 5 and click OK.
11. CONTENT SWITCH THRESHOLD
You can interact with a loading page when content.interrupt.parsing is set to true. When a page is loading, the application has two modes: a high frequency interrupt mode and a low frequency interrupt mode. The first one interrupts the parser more frequently to allow for greater UI responsiveness during page load.
The low frequency interrupt mode interrupts the parser less frequently to allow for quicker page load. The application enters high frequency interrupt mode when you move the mouse or type on the keyboard and switch back to low frequency mode when you had no activity for a certain amount of time. This preference controls that amount of time. Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window and select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
A. Enter content.switch.threshold in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
B. You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 750000 and click OK.

I recently got my GPU error fixed, but now my MacBook Pro shuts down whenever I close the lid.

I bought my computer in July 2010. After 3 and a half years I finally discovered there was and an issue. GPU error. Fine. ok. I went to the store and even though they were nice enough to fix it for free, I'm now having another issue. Whenever I shut my computer lid, the screen and keyboard doesn't work. I can hear the computer fans but no matter what I do I can't get the keyboard or screen to work. In order to get it to turn back on, I have to hold down the power button until I hear the inside turn off. Then I have to hold the power button again to turn it back on. DId they give me a faulty part when they fixed it? Or is there something I can do? My computer is in great condition. No scratches, never been dropped, etc. HOW DO I GET MY SCREEN AND KEYBOARD TO WORK?

Broadband dropping connection and hub systematical...

I have just got off the fone ( which is the only thing that works correctly ) to a helpdesk advisor who i had trouble understanding or getting to understand me and im none the wiser over my problem
i have been having problems with the broadband connection for a while now but thought it was getting somewhere 6 weeks ago when an engineer was actually tasked with coming to my premises -----praise be there are still ppl employed to physically come and check and repair faults!!!!
he came and checked and replaced cables and sockets and checked the line and i was left with downspeeds of over 6mbs wen it was less than 1 and the signal strength was turned up at the exchange after being turned off????
he said it would take time to settle down and if faults still occured to ring back and put another fault in which i have done.
i was asked about microfilters and how many i said no physical ones as the sockets have built in and went through everything stating it was all done by a BT engineer so all physical connections are correct the only assumption i can now come up with are the hub itself at fault ---- hh2 ---4yrs old --- or the line at the exchange which was touted before and told there was a posible fault.
can someone from BT who may well look at this please do someting about it????
telling me that they are changing settings and it will take 24hrs to settle is not wat i want to hear as iv been all through it only weeks ago
and why would the hub turn itself off and restart thats not settings surely

Invisible user folder fixed, but now its a package?

I had the problem described in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307033
I ran the chflags nohidden ~/ command and now my user directory is visible again, but the Finder identifies it as a package rather than a Folder. How do I fix that?

IPhone 4S Out of Warranty Screen smashed then fixed but now Faults.

Hi Recently My Iphone 4S Warranty Expired the screen got cracked but then i fixed it my self now it has a tone of faults i allways have No Service no matter were i am and My iphone is 64gb and the website doesnt sell them anymore Would Apples Out Of Warranty Service still replace it?

Because you opened it and replaced the screen using non apple parts. Apple does not sell parts. They won't touch it now. Buy a new phone.
If you had not done that, you could have had it replaced for $199.

Nik Plugins - msvcp110 dll fixed, but now CS6 crashes

I know a lot of us had that problem with Nik autoupdating that removed msvcp110.dll. I did as recommended and reinstalled and while the filters reappeared, now they crash once I try to confirm a style and exit. For a while they worked in CS6 32bit but not 64bit, but as of today it crashes in both. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas how to fix it? I've tried a clean install and running that Redistributable that's been going around. Stumped on what's causing it, but I suspect somewhere something is getting leftover in uninstall.

IOS 6 Firewall temp Fix but now can't get YAHOO mail ***?

I spent 1.5 hours last night at the "Genius Bar", only for them to tell me that the issue with a firewall for the wifi wasn't an issue seeing as i just upgraded to ios 6, so got 2 new replacement phones to "fix the problem". I got back into our secure network only to find the issue still existed. This AM we removed the password on our firewall but kept WEP key in place. We can't track usage untill Apple come up with a fix that worked just as well as IOS 5.
However after re organising all my email accounts, i can now no longer get my YAHOO mail. Keeps asking for the password even though i input the correct PW.
Ideas welcome people!
PS.... lets go apple, love your stuff but you have tech friendly people that can't do what they are asked to do..... Hmm here's an idea, maybe keep it longer in BETA????

All we asked for is the phone to function as it should. Not a big ask to have it work as it would on previous operating software. This may not apply to you unless you were in the similar situation.
