Broadband dropping out all the time

Over 12 month ago we moved offices and had nothing but hassle with the broadband and have been getting unsteady speeds and keeps dropping out we have Bt business broadband and phone. Since this wehave had 3 engineers out to it and endless hours of tests. The first one said it was looping back round on a old line or something?? He has now cut this out and it was fine. It was still the same the next appointment was to do with the copper wire line I waited in all day they decided they did not need to come so I phoned again may I add 0845 numbers off a mobile as they can't do tests if I phone off my land line. Another hour of tests they maid a appointment this time 2 engineers turned up spent half a day and ended up putting me on a new line. I was toils this time it might be alright off the engineers guess what it still does not work. Another two days of calling and another engineer has been assigned my job yesterday I never seen this one he apparently was working on it at BTs side I woke up this morning to no phone line for a minibus company Christmas week and no broadband. Another engineer is due to come out on Monday now. Every time I ring I get someone different people prom mice to ring back and never do. This service is disgusting for Bt and I am very disappointed and can't believe they can't fix a fault

  • Switched to Infinity and dropping out all the time...

    With ordinary unlimited we'd lose connection 2 or 3 times a week. BT Sales people who kept phoning said if we upgraded to Infinity it'd solve the problem. We upgrade 5 and a half weeks ago and connection is now dropping out many times a day - several times an hour sometimes! We were never off the phone to the help centre and eventually the engineer came back to do checks but things just improve for a day or two (improve, not fixed) then it's back to normal. Every wi-fi device in the house gets kicked off and the desk top help kicks in usually saying to phone BT that it can't get us back online. After week 3 of this I gave up phoning them as was fed up with their apologies. Am hoping someone here can help. Have complained to BT but no response after initial auto email. The desk top help has to keep renewing my ip address. I have no idea what this is but really could do with some pointers. Five weeks of paying for Infinity only to be kicked off repeatedly is leaving me feeling robbed!

    I have moved this thread to a different board, now we know its not a problem with your Infinity connection.
    It also allows forum members to give more specific advice.
    What you need to do now, is to try different wireless channels on the home hub. There are 13 to choose from.
    The dropouts are most likely caused when anothe wireless router is switched on, and its on the same wireless channel as your home hub.

    If you have a Windows laptop with a wireless card, then you can download a free program which will display which channels are in use, and allow you to select a better one.

    If its mainly the Xbox that is affected, then a better solution is to avoid a wireless connection, and use powerline adapters instead, as shown here.

  • Officejet 6500 forgetting network name and drops out all the time

    I just got an Officejet 6500 (non-wireless model)
    I can assign a network name to it and it works fine, until it's power-cycled. Then it has the original network name again and of course it won't work until it's installed again.
    Another problem that could probably be related is that even when I use the default network-name to add it as a network printer in Vista, connection seem to break and it won't print again until I install it over once again.
    I get the feeling that firmware is somewhat buggy on it. I don't expect such a device to use batteries to keep it's settings, so I think it's safe to rule out? 

    @Wifi-Guy: Yes, it's using an ethernet cable IP address always work. 
    I did some additional testing to find the exact reproducable error.
    (I have previously installed the HP software that came on the CD)
    1. I added the printer using the "Add new printer" wizard in Vista
    2. Print test page, works fine
    3. Turn off the Officejet 6500 on the power-button on the front panel (then the WSD Print Provider dissappears in Device Manager).
    4. Printer status now appear as "Offline"
    5. Turn on the Officejet 6500 again
    6. When WSD Print Provider again appears in Device Manager, printer status changes from "Offline" to "User intervention Required" and it's impossible to make it print again unless printer is deleted and added again.
    I was not able to find any useful information about this printer status using google.
    I just tried changing the network name. As I suspected, this also resets just by powercycling.
    Note: I'm using Vista x64.

  • Airplay and airfoil cut out all the time

    Whenever I stream music from my mba via either iTunes or AirFoil to my speakers the sound will cut out all the time.  If I switch the sound output in sound preferences to the airplay speakers then everything works fine and there's no cutting out.  How can this be fixed so that I don't have to change the system preferences everytime I want to play music to the airplay speakers?

  • I got a time capsule 3T and Drops every other moment(we have at least 7 laptops, 5iphones and 2iTV....why it drops down all the time

    Exactly which model is it? The new AC or the previous Gen4?
    What role does the TC take in the network? What is the broadband modem and how is the TC connected?
    If many people have worked on it.. it is doubtful we are going to fix it with anything offered here.
    Have you taken it back to Apple store for testing or replacement under warranty?
    The new AC one desperately needs a firmware update to fix some of the issues.. and I have no idea what you have tried. But my standard list is as follows.
    1. Factory reset.
    2. All names short, (2-20 characters), no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    3. Test via ethernet.. if this issue is purely wireless or is there a drop out on the WAN connection.
    4. Set all wireless manually.. that means a different name for 5ghz.. and fix the channels and test at least 11, 6, 1 on 2.4ghz and somewhere in 36-46 and >100 for 5ghz.
    5. Test wireless via a software like istumbler for levels and consistency.
    No luck with any of that take it back or ring apple to help you.

    That is the first one I saw.. but also on the airport area.. plenty of people are having serious issues with iphones..
    If this is new ie within 14days just return it for now. Get something that is known to be stable.

    Hi there, 
    I've seen a few topics, it seems that I'm not the only one, but I can't find the solution... 
    Everytime I try to login, I get logged out straight away. My partner logs in no problem on the same terminals. 
    I try a lot of things, reset password, desinstall, install, but same thing happens all the time, on android, ipad, laptop.... 
    I can't even use the credit I have on my account, it's getting very frustrating, please help!!!!

  • Broadband dropping out following the thunderstorm.

    Hi all again,
    I had a persistant fault for nearly 2 years that finaly got resolved via this forum with a lift and shift at the exchange curing the fault.
    The main socket was also changed at the same time to a combined unit?
    A year on and a house about 1 mile from me was struck by lightning and their line and phone damaged by the strike.
    Since that storm Im suffering with terrible drop out of broard band service, it works in a limited capacity after a reset for about 9-12 hours and then needs another reset.
    Does anyone have any advice?

    the stats are looking ok just now but if you start to get problems then try a factory reset by using the recessed button on back probably wth paperclip or similar.  this will take it back to as you got it so admin and wifi passwords will revert back to the ones on the hub
    to try test socket you take of bottom half of socket and connect filter to the test socket and then rj11 cable to filter and hub and see if that helps

  • WIFI cutting out all the time, since I downloaded software version 10.8

    Ever since I downloaded Mountain Lion 10.8 I have wifi issues. My wifi continually cuts out, I have to turn wifi off and turn it on again to connect. This occurs every 5 to 10 minutes. I have looked at other solutions but none have worked. I have reset everything but the same problem persists. I think its a software issue, any help would be aprrecuated.

    Yes, same problem here. It is a widely experienced problem by a host of users that upgraded to 10.8 (it's unclear if it started with 10.8 or 10.8.2).     Here's what I've figured out so far, and this is after living with the problem (and trying to fix it now) for many weeks, and perusing many online resources:
    The problem in question (that I'm discussing) is one where your Mac network connection completely hangs. Attempts to open a web browser, for instance, hang for about a minute, and then you get the "cannot find the web site" page. Likewise, any network access (ssh, telnet, email, ping) are all completely blocked, as if you had no network at all -- and yet, at the same time, you've got 5 bars on your wifi status and a solid connection to the router. Network status in your settings all looks fine.The most common fix at this point is to either 1) turn off wifi and restart it, which almost always works, or 2) go ahead and restart the router, which annoys the heck out of everyone else in the office but also works fine.
    The problem is probably related to an update to the 10.8.2 network stack. Ignore anyone that says something like "reset your router," this is not the issue. This can be verified easily enough: Are any other devices on the router impacted? No? Then the router is fine (here we have about a dozen computers, iPads, and an AppleTV, and a VOIP phone system on the router -- they all keep working fine, it is only the MacBooks that were updated to 10.8.2 that exhibit the problem.
    The problem is apparently specific to the 802.11 'n' protocol. We successfully reconfigured our router so that it supports two different networks, one 802.11g "Boss Logic" and one 802.11n "Boss Logic 5Ghz." In other words, we switched it up so that you can use a 'g' network ("Boss Logic") or an 'n' network ("Boss Logic 5Ghz"). All the PC users are happily using the higher speed 5Ghz network -- and all the Mac users are now, unhappily, using the older 'g' network. If your router supports this (having a dual configuration, such as the Apple Airport routers do) then it's a great fix... at some performance cost. We've done this here, and yes, it did absolutely work, no hangs since switching over.
    I have read elsewhere that you might be able to continue using the 'n' network, if you change your MTU size to a non-1500 settings. I'm giving this a shot and will see how it goes. (Just go into settings and change your wireless network 'hardware' tab to use an MTU of, say, 1495). Good luck if you try this.
    Hope this helps and let's all cross our fingers and hope Apple starts paying attention. It seems like it's been an eternity... but it's probably only been a month or two. But hey getting booted off the network a few times a day can be a really, really annoying experience.

  • Downloads time out all the time

    Every time I try to download an update for my iPhone or iPad, just about when the download is finished a pop up shows up saying my connection timed out and the down load stops.  This has happened on multiple computers with wi-fi, dsl and air cards.  Any ideas what the problem can be?

    Have you tried dragging and dropping the iTunes file onto the Time Capsule, opening iTunes, trying to play a song, and when it pops up and says "We were unable to locate the file, would you like to locate it?", clicking locate, then going into the folder on the Time Capsule and selecting the file? That will make it reassociate everything that was "lost" when the folder moved, and I'd think it'd change the location of downloads as well.

    My WIFI or Airport keeps losing connection when im online! All is good when im on the lead! but wireless my net is very unstable! the router is working all other pc's in the house are working just fine on there- IPODs too! Im a bit frustrated now and very disapointed that Apple is ok with shipping out macs that dont work! I can see im far from the only one with this problem!!! Another side effect from this problem is the very short range my WIFI provides!

    I'm having the same problem as you. Have a MacBook Pro 13, 2.53, late 2009. After I installed Lion my wifi has basically just stopped working. Most of the times I can connect with wifi, but it will fall out with certainty within half an hour. Often within just a few minutes. To resolve this I have choose my network from the list again, and sometimes I have to turn the wifi off and on again to get it working.
    It is most definetily not my router. We have several phones and computers on the same network, and they don't experience any problems. I also have the same problem if I use someone elses network.
    The problem occured after I installed Lion. After the last update I hoped this problem would be fixed. Anyone with some smart solution? Is Apple working on this?

    My shuffle worked great for a month. But now, while I'm running, either the sound cuts out or the unit stops playing - I haven't been able to figure out which. When this first started happening, I could get it to play again by pressing the play button - it was as if it had paused itself. But now, I have to do all kinds of things to get it going again and I really haven't been able to figure out what makes it start again. I turn it off and on, I pull out the headphone jack and put it back in, I toggle pause/play, and eventually one of those things gets it going again. It's really annoying and I have no idea what's wrong. I'm tired of going to the apple store - I just had to recycle one iPod and then exchange the replacement iPod (which didn't work) for this Shuffle. Anyone have any ideas about what's going on?     Where do you clip the Shuffle when you run? Is it
    possible that it is getting moisture in it? Or the
    controls get bumped? Do you know about disabling the
    controls by pressing PLAY/PAUSE for about 3 seconds?

  • Siri timing out all the time!

    Since the launch of the iPhone 5, Siri seems to have serious performance problems! It's only answering one out of five times. Most of the time it's taking forever and then returning an error that it can't answer right now. Scale up performance, Apple, come on!

    On iPhone 4s and 5 and Ipads IOS6,  go to settings, and locate Store.  Click your Apple ID and sign out on Store and then re-sign in your Apple ID, and session timed out issue seems to be fixed. I tried this myself and confirmed working =) I hope it works for you.  Good Luck. P.S. Do a soft reset too.
