Broadband generally OK but some sites simply refus...

Just moved into office space and the IT guy is remote and I'm sure he thinks I'm having him on but am having a problem with a new connection he's installed here.
It's a dedicated line, I have two Macbooks and two PC laptops running into wall points.
Mostly it works fine, but e**y.co.uk (for instance) never connects from anyone's machine. I cannot login to Windows Live/Xbox.com (page will load but login/submit will time out). Online banking sites will fail while authenticating. A few shopping carts on online retailers also fail. Google apps (Drive, Calendar) work, but in patches - sometimes they fail completely. Yahoo's billing website is another that struggles.
This is not an exhaustive list but merely what I've picked up in a week of using it. I can get around most of it, but stuff like Google/Windows Live could be crucial to business.
Is this behaviour familiar to anyone?
The IT guy ran DNS lookups (I think they were) through a CMD line and they connected to e**y.co.uk fine, but he couldn't launch the site in a browser.
I have an ethernet switch and a wifi router (the latter only for wireless printing purposes) but even with these unplugged, the internet behaviour is the same.

    It might be a known issue of SQL Server 2012. I would suggest opening a case with Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) (http://support.microsoft.com), so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist you
    in a more efficient manner.

    We have a brand new SharePoint 2013 farm which we just put into production. As users have begun creating their My Sites, the My Sites web application database changed to a status of "Database is up to date, but some sites are not completely upgraded."
    Huh?
    Prior to deploying to production, we had some test users that had created My Sites, and everything was fine. The database status was "No action required".
    Anyone know why the creation of My Sites would cause the database status to flip to this warning?

    First of all, to identify what site collection doesn't got upgraded.
             Run: stsadm.exe -o localupgradestatus > upgradestatus.txt
    or
    PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures  (Run from one of the WFE server)    
    In below as you see, there no site collection that need upgrade. If you have any, you can identify
    them by searching by word "Needs upgrade" in this file.                  
    Secondly, run the command in the Power Shell:
    For resuming the upgrade, you’ll need the ID for the database :
    Get-SPContentDatabase -Identity <your content database name>
    When you got the GUID for the database you can then resume the upgrade
             upgrade-spcontentdatabase -id <database
    GUID>
    Finally, check the upgrade status by running stsadm again:
    stsadm.exe -o localupgradestatus > upgradestatus.

    I am getting "Upgrade Available" on all servers in the farm. On closer inspection, the above message is coming up in the "Review Database Status" area. I have run the Upgrade-SPContentDatabase command on the database but although it says it complete, the
    error above is still there. No error messages in log or warnings or anything.
    Is there anything else I need to do?

    One thing you can try is to run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard tool on a server in the farm to see if that will perform the upgrade you need to get that message removed. It shouldn't affect anything in your farm from a functionality standpoint,
    but I would recommend doing it during a maintenance window or a period of lower usage for your farm.
    If that runs without error but you still have the issue, try running the command line version of the Wizard, PSCONFIG.exe. From the command line you can specify a -force parameter that may require those components to get upgraded. PSCONFIG.exe is in the
    BIN directory in the SharePoint Root, same place as STSADM.
    Try it as such:
    psconfig -cmd -upgrade b2b -wait -force
    This will foce a "build to build" upgrade of SharePoint, and will hopefully clean up the places within SharePoint's databases where you're still seeing that upgrade message.

    Whether this is central admin content database or a web application's one?
    If this is web application, execute the next PowerShell script from SharePoint Management Shell:
    $db = Get-SPContentDatabase -Identity <Name of your database>
    Upgrade-SPContentDatabase -Identity $db
    If this is Central Admin content database, then:
    Get-SPWebApplication -IncludeCentralAdministration | Get-SPContentDatabase
    # Found and write down Guid of central admin content database
    $db = Get-SPContentDatabase -Identity <GUID>
    Upgrade-SPContentDatabase -Identity $db

  • FF5: Some sites will not load, but no error messages

    I'm using Firefox 5 on Windows Vista Home SP1.
    Since I upgraded to FF5, some sites either simply will not load. No error messages are given - the green circle icon in the tab just keep spinning.
    There's two pages that I visit daily that this happens to (though there are other pages).
    For the page http://diablo.incgamers.com, on the bottom left of the page it says "Read ssl.gstatic.com".
    The other page is http://www.jewelrydod.com but there's no message like the other page.
    Both of those sites load properly in Chrome and in IE.
    The pages also do not load in Firefox in Safe Mode.

    Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
    "Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    * Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    However, I have Firefox 3.6.12 installed and seemingly working fine. I've even tried re-installing the latest version of Firefox over my current installation (I don't want to uninstall first, as I am afraid of losing my Bookmarks), but to no avail.

    You can't download any plug-ins on the iPad.
    Flash is not supported on the iPad - and as Adobe have announced that they are stopping development on all mobile versions of it, it probably never will be.
    Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter, Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store.

    I am not sure what you ask is possible.
    There is a default smart search for 'Most Visited' but I would think if you delete your 'History' you will not have History entries showing up in the location bar.
    You can keep your History but prevent it displaying in the dropdown list of the location bar, but that is the opposite of what you are asking about.
