BROADBAND here one day, gone for the next 5!! what...

weve been having problem with our broadband for months now. it goes through phases of not working.
randomly prat way though using our wireless internet our router broadband button will flash orange, and will stay like that for days, then randomly like today it will start working again.
at the moment on average its on for 1 day out of seven.
iv tried putting the cable in the tester port on the wall socket and its the same from that.
last time i phoned bt i was told it was a fault our end, and we needed to get an electrician out to fit a new connection box, but surely if im still not getting signal via the test socket its not my end?
feedback or similar experiences greatly appreciated!!!

i phoned bt yesterday. firstly i was told my account was in fact closed hence no internet. this was wrong.
the next person i spoke to was very helpfull. after several tests he said he would get an engineer on teh case, would take approx 4 hours and someone would call me back between 2-4pm yesterday. no one ever phoned.
today having taken 50mins to get through to teh right department (even though i phoned the same number every time) it seemed no one wanted to speak to me.
i got told theer was an area problem and thats why it was working. she would not take it from me that the problem had been going on for months. she wouldnt help me, she would not listen to me, i feel so stressed i feel like crying! im paying for a service that i am not getting and no one from bt wants to help me!

Calc Script runs slow one day and fast the next?

We are on Essbase 11.1.2.1. When we run calc scripts to load our actuals and run some allocation scripts, the difference in running time for the same exact script is very different day to day. One day three hours the next 45 minutes. Our servers are just for Essbase. We are on Windows 2008 R2. Has anyone else run into this or have any idea how we could figure out the reason for this. In that case, I would try to grab the cube statistics - especially number of upper-level and input blocks, compression ratio and fragmentation (in EAS you can only see one of the two fragmentation statistics, 'Average Clustering Ratio', not 'Average Fragmentation Quotient') before each run, just to see if they're varying wildly. Also, if your calc scripts log summary information (is there a SET MSG command in them? If not you could try SET MSG SUMMARY) then Essbase will write high-level statistics on how much work was done to the application log.
You can see which cubes are loaded (and consuming memory) in the EAS treeview - if they have a check (tick) mark they are loaded. But you can also see current activity by right-clicking on the server in the EAS treeview and selecting Edit | Sessions. That will show whether there are other operations (loads, calcs, reports, restructures etc) occurring at the same time.
If none of the above give any clues and this is a virtual box (or you have SAN storage) you really will need someone who understands your infrastructure to help.
I'm assuming these are BSO cubes, by the way!

I am aware that many people, like me, have lost the ability to mirror their iPad, iPhone or computer with Apple TV. Has anyone yet found a solution? One day it worked, the next day the option to switch between the device and Apple TV had disappeared.

Has anyone managed to resolve the problems encountered with Apple TV and the loss of ability to mirror iphones, ipads or computers? One day it was working perfectly, from all the above devices, the next the option to switch between playing on the device or mirroring to apple tv had disappeared. I have tried all the obvious such as updating iTunes, turning all devices off and then back on, but nothing is working. Help please!

Your problem is most certainly network related, you might try restarting your devices including your router as a temporary solution, but in the long term would be better correcting the problems with your network.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

Thanks. Actually it's kind of made me stressful this week because there were things I wanted to do and changes I wanted to make, but I'm not going to make any substantial changes and then do a vanishing act for a week. I just don't like doing that.
2 of my coworkers are then out of town at a conference the day after I get back for a week and then one on vacation for a week so it will be an interesting 3 weeks coming up.
I think I worry more about going to Spiceworld, because they will be able to reach me :)

Going to be completely unplugged for a week starting Saturday night. I am not looking forward to my e-mail accumulation while I am gone.
If you've never done it, go someplace where there's no internet access for a week. Where you can't check your phone, even if you wanted to. Be careful however, you might enjoy it too much. :)

My itunes won't print. Printer show nothing in que. One day it and the next no

My itune won't print. One day worked, the next no. printer works fine but when trying to print itunes it does'nt even show in the printer que.

Before you tear out your hair, follow the steps that Casper recommends. It works in minutes. The reformatting will mean you will have to reload your music, but that's better than tearing out your hair for sure. I feel lucky to have stumbled across the following instructions before too many hours went by. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!
Windows users: If you are not able to restore the iPod, you can try to format it:
Open Control Panel
Click the "switch to classic view" link, if necessary
Double click "administrative tools"
Double click "computer management"
Under "storage" click on "disk management"
Find your iPod's listing
Right-click on it and click "format"
Select "FAT32" and start the format
After this, your I-TUNES should start up and ask you to register the NANO again, but at LEAST IT RECOGNIZES IT again. WOOOO HOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Apple pls look here: Some "quick wins" for the next firmware release

Hi!
First of all: Thank you, Apple, for Update 1.0.3! The most annoying bugs are fixed and the click wheel works better (but in my opinion the quick wheel of the iPod nano works still even better).
Please allow me to suggest a few "quick wins" you could easily (in my opinion) include in the next firmware release:
+ Please add an option to turn off that "screensaver" or to change the time until it turns on
The "screensaver" wouldn't be that bad when:
+ It would display "now playing" information in a large font (better readable than the normal "now playing" when the background light is off
+ The screensaver clock would display 24h format, when configured

HDCP Compliant one day, then not the next

For the last few days, iTunes has decided that my computer is not HDCP compliant then, for no discernable reason, it changes it's mind and it suddenly is. I don't get it.
Anyone else have this problem?

I figured it out.
If you watch a Video in Steam and try to use iTunes, it freaks out and decides that since the video card was being used for something else, it can't possibly be available for its finicky ***.
Therefore, close Steam, close iTunes, reopen iTunes, it once again feels okay and let's you give them money.
That generous POS.

Video works one day and not the next...same person; same computers....HELP!

Hello all...
Okay, I was (video) chatting yesterday with someone (had no problems) and today the video won't work. It's happened before, nothing has changed between yesterday and today. Same users; same computers. It's incredibly frustrating. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I've been trying everything; opening ports, adjusting quicktime streaming preferences...everything discussed in other posts in this forum regarding error -8.
I really hate iChat...I think it's unbeliveble that Apple claims to be so better that Windows, but I never had problems wits MSN video.
But let's try to solve this irritating issue. What kind of messenging software do you have instaled/open when you try to use iChat?
I have Skype installed. When I deinstalled it, everything was working fine (so I thought). Next day the same BS all over again.
I could use skype to videochat, but I have an .mac account and I want to use iChat...the f&^%$*g .mac account is to expensive not to use...And do not forget that iChat AV quality is way better than Skype.
I really hope Apple comes with a solution soon.

Anyone had an issue on iphone 4s where bluetooth connects one day and then the next will not discover anything, but then a little while later it works again? I have 2 audio devices and an apple keyboard that I have this issue with. Effects ALL.

I have an iphone 4s. A while ago it started having issues with bluetooth. All of the sudden, an audio headset I am using quits working with my iphone bluetooth. I check and my iphone doesn't see any of my bluetooth devices. I have an apple keyboard, a headset, and a speaker. Nothing shows up on my iphone but they all connect perfectly to my ipad. Then a day or so later it works again. The are all suddenly there. I just installed iOS7 and I'm still having the same problem. What is UP? Anyone have a clue what is going on?

I have this problem too. I have an iPhone 4, and this wasn't a problem when I bought the phone back in December. I think it came a month or so later and I suspect with a standard upgrade of something like itunes, or iphone software... but I can't pinpoint it to any specific update as it took me a while to notice it. For me, it does this with my work calendar which is run through Microsoft Outlook. But it's the exact same thing - and it means my calendar isn't reliable anymore.
I've made sure the time-zone settings are correct, I've updated all software, and gone through all possible settings for both my i-phone and Outlook. Nothing fixes the problem, even our tech guy at work didn't know what to do. I know it's not just my phone as the exact same thing has happened with my boss's iPhone which is an iPhone 3G, and it frustrates him to no end.
I'm really hoping someone at apple can tell us what's going on, especially since it never used to do this and there doesn't seem to be any way to fix it. If someone thinks they know what itunes update this was due to, let me know - I'll see if I can go back to that older version.

I'm about sick of my Apple TV as an entertainment platform. Music is generally fine, but the renting of movies is getting on my nerves. Where is the consistency? Renting movies used to be painless. Expensive, but relatively painless. I ordered the movie, I got the movie. 2 minutes. Instant for non-HD titles. Now? Sometimes it's 2 minutes (once in a blue moon), sometimes, nay- let's call it the standard- it's 5-7 hours. What gives?
My cable connection is the same- I'm getting almost 6000 kb/s download speeds. I'm sick of it. There is absolutely nothing worse than preparing to watch a movie, only to find out that you can't watch the *&@#$&! movie. ******.

That seems to be the only explanation- bandwidth throttling/network "shaping". The problem is, that I have no idea if my ISP (TWC) is doing it or not. The end result is that it causes me to be understandably angry with the software/hardware that is getting the short end of the stick, namely AppleTV.
Really odd though, if it is in fact some type of bandwidth throttling, that it only happens to my AppleTV. Netflix HD streaming over my TiVo is fine. Hulu is fine. BitTorrent is fine. AppleTV? Not so much. Yup- I'm gonna go with "it's the AppleTV".

Printing one day, can't the next.

Printer just says "Looking for Hewlett-Packard hp color LaserJet 2500" forever. Printing via Airport base station to an HP color laserjet, which has worked well for years. One year with this setup. Nothing has changed that I can think of.
When repairing permissions today, I got the following (twice):

You can ignore those permission repair messages. Everyone gets them, and they are "informational" - to whom, I do not know. FWIW, permission repair is, IMHO, a waste of time (although I do it myself after a software update).
Try deleting the printer and then reinstalling it.
Has anything changed before the problem began?
The "ton" of firewall messages may or may not be relevant.
Unfortunately, I do not use a wireless network (mine is Ethernet). There is a rather large HP driver update that Apple released a couple of months ago.
As a further suggestion, you might post your question in the networking forum. I am not (to say the least) expert in connectivity problems, but people there have a lot of expertise.

Make sure all of your songs have a checkmark next to the song title. There are small blue boxes that need to be checked for songs to play consecutively.
If the library is unchecked, you can easily recheck things by clicking on a song, going to the top line selecting Edit>Select All, then right clicking on the selection and choosing "Check Selection".

Apple Remote, worked one day and not the next

I have searched the forums. The remote app worked perfect the first time I used it. Now it does not. It can not find the shared library, and if I ask to enter a new passcode, it does nothing. The device is talking to the computer because I am asked to enter the passcode. But then it spins, does nothing and eventually gives an error beep, and four blank boxes to reenter the code. I have followed all the advice in various posts.
Any more thoughts? The first day, this was genius. The second day, well, it bites.

If anyone has an answer, let me know, but I believe I have identified this as an iTunes issue on my computer, not a Remote issue. I am able to link my remote to the other computer in my house, just not mine. I have tried trashing iTunes plists, but no help there.

Welcome to the Apple Dicsussion Pages.
The Alcatel Speedtouch 585 proabably has version 5 firmware on there. I see form your post you know what the problem is.
This can be the problem.
Earlier modes in the 500 series had Firmware versions 3 and 4 which meant you could telnet into them form the Terminal Application and Unbind SIP from port 5060.
This is what is causing the problem.
The symptoms are a starnge pattern of succss and failure.
A small group you can contact all the time
An equally small group of now and then success
And a large group of Buddies that you can never get AV chats with.
ibosie who posts here says he has been in caontact with Alcatel and that they are working on a Firmware update to get round this.
At this stage another modem would be the way to go. (the 510 and the 580 can be Unbound)

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
      left mouse button until the disc ejects.
2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
4. Press COMMAND-E.
5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
      your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
        /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.
