Broadband keeps dropping Help please :)
Hi there people of the forum,
My internet has been fine for many months no reall big issues with the connection itself, but recently ive had these random drop outs, it started about 8 days ago with 1 a day around 8pm somtimes a bit before somtimes after. After 4 days of these random drops i started to think there was a possible issue been looking at the forums for people with a similar issue thinking it could be a line issue or hub.
The issue was only happening once a day but 3 days ago it happened 3-5 times in a short window of 20 minutes i had WoW.skype and teamspeak running. I closed all of them down and it would start id go to load back into TS or even open the internet and boom it was gone again.
Today it got to 8pm the time it usually happens and i was finishing my raid when boom it goes, it goes for around 2 mins comes back and is stable for a good 25-35 mintues then suddenly it drops and come back and drops it does this 9-10 times in a window of 5 minutes i instantly thought i had to look for some help on this as the issue is getting worse it seems and it randomly disconnecting isnt good for my gaming or in general.
It usually happens between 7:45pm and 9:30pm Uk time but somtimes it will start before or go on a bit later for example i think the last one i had today was at 9 45ish. Would really love some help from you peoples in how to fix and stop this issue from occuring
Hey imjolly,
Im connected through a socket that look similar but doesnt have the line across it, its a single socket like that one just if i was to take the front of it off it would be the whole thing not half. there is one other socket in the lounge but its got "line 2" on it. and there is another in my mums room the same as mine with no name on the front just a blank socket with a slot. so currently im connected to the master socket as i have no idea if there is a test socket behind the case as its a full case not half like youve shown
The quiet line test gave nothing no feedback at all, after around 1 min i heard from 2 seconds of feint really feint crackling.

2011 iMac running 10.8.4 Lion - WiFi keeps dropping out - Please help!
Ever since I upgraded from 10.8.3 to 10.8.4, my iMac wireless internet connection keeps dropping off - I have to keep turning Wifi off and on again to establish the connection. It is not a problem with the modem or the internet as we have 4 different devices and none of them have this issue. I would say it happens every 5-10 minutes - VERY annoying!
If anyone has any tips on how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
MRajaBack up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Reset the System Management Controller.
Step 5

for months now we have had problems with broadband dropping out - the icon flashes orange more than it ever stay steady blue. Broadband Desktop Help will NOT download (it keeps stopping 1/3 of the way through). The event log messages that are consisitently repeated are copied below along with my connection speed results.
I am totally at the end of my tether with this - I've seen other threads but don't understand it all when it gets too techie. Can someone help please?

ADSL Broadband keeps dropping out when trying to u...
Hi, hope someone can offer some advice please.
Our connection seems to have got a lot slower over the last few months (about 2.64 on a very good day) and now keeps dropping out when trying to use either the laptop or PS3. I have followed the advice on the self help guide and tried changing the ADSL filter, moved the hub away from the telephone, re-booting the hub and tried using it directly in the test socket and none of these have solved the problem. I have done a line test from work and it says there are no problems with the line??? I am getting really annoyed as we only have the phone line so we can use the internet so are paying over £40 a month for service we cant even use. I get the impression that as there are so many users on ADSL where I live (we dont have fibre optic yet) that it is too much for the exchange and that BT are upping peoples connections when they complain thus making other peoples worse (we had this problem about a year ago and complained and it was ok for a while)
Could this be true? Or am I just thinking too much in to it? And does anyone have any suggestions on how I could resolve the problem? I have had a bad experiance with being charged for an engineers visit in the past (eventually refunded) so would like to avoid having to get them involved if possible.
Thanks in advance.you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com or http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 and post the results .

Broadband keeps dropping out - every 20 mins or so...
This is getting beyond a joke now so really hope someone can help fix this for me. The broadband started dropping out every 20 mins or so about 6 weeks ago and is just getting worse. Any moderators reading this - if I can't get it sorted I'm leaving BT.
Have read a few posts and I think this is the info I need to provide.
I have a Home Hub 3.
Speed test on the line gives download speed of 4.85Mbps and an IP profile of 5.87Mbps.
Upstream test gives 1.18Mbps and a Rate IP profile of 0.83Mbps
I performed the quiet line test and the line was perfectly quiet with no crackles or hisses.
The ADSL stats are below.
Anything anyone can do to help will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Phil

Broadbands keeps dropping for an hour
Hi -- not sure if anyone can help - but our broadband which is usually very stable has suddenly started dropping -- sometimes for an hour or more -- check all the fittings. Any suggestions welcome please
welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) bt speedtester and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

Help, Broadband keeps dropping!
Hi there, me and my family have been having this issue for many weeks now, i feel like ive tried everything - nothing works. As you can see above this is an example of what were dealing with - i can confirm this is a periodic drop as there was another drop shortly after, although strangely a fifth one didnt happen for 25 minutes. This all started happening from the moment it was reset (with pin to the back).
I am using BT home Hub 4, I have called BTs mumbai office soo many times, the closest I came to solving this was changing the wireless channel - this still didnt work. We have many devices connected to the hub - tablets computer phones.
At the time of the drops:
2.4 GHz Wireless:
Sue-pc
00:1c:26:86:56:ac
192.168.1.68
LawrencesiPhone

5 GHz Wireless:
COM-MID1
60:02:b4:ae:9c:eb
192.168.1.83
Ethernet:
No devices detected
USB:
No devices detected
In terms of what colour the hub turns when dropping - i believe it flashes orange although not 100% certain.
I even resorted to buying a new router - this didnt make it past the automatic setup phase. It kept telling me to i need to turn off the modem - which as far as I know I dont have!
Im really really coming to the end of my tether with this, please someone help! If you need any more information ill do my best. Thanks. From the information posted all the devices are connected wireless. I would turn off smart wireless and select the channels manually. I would also split the 2.4 and 5ghz networks by say adding a 5 to 5ghz channel and uou can use same password fir both. Many devices don't like the 2 networks combineD
you can also use inssider to chrck free channels.
you can try downloading inssider3 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.
inssider3.1.2.1

Help! Broadband keeps dropping off
I need some help.I rely on my infinity to work at home. Since beginning of the week the broadband has been constantly dropping off I suspect it may have happened prior to then as tablet would be offline in morning. Now it's dropping, at times, every 20 mins. Work are very annoyed. I have to connect the systems wireless( hence why chose "good" Infinity).I'm on hub5. The internet only drops for few seconds but enough to kill everything in house. Once the hub went orange but usually blue. We have replaced the micro filter, reset hub with pin twice, changed channels, split the WiFi to 2.4 and 5Hz. Still dropping off
They say nothing wrong with the line but with our previous supplier they said we had imbalance on copper wire. I'm now suspicious it was never fixed. Called bt today but got no answers to my questions. Right at end of one hour call was told that software is to blame but it's going to take a week to fix. What do I do about work? I can't connect wired and I'm going to lose my job. Obviously my questions were outside the script ...
HOw can I be certain it's still software problem ? Is there any way I can connect to the main socket with my laptop wired to see if still dropping off rather than the hub? Can I use a different router? Is the hub less stable on an extension from master socket?
Can the customer service people actually see if there has been a millisecond drop off? They said they can see I've only had two but it's more like 5 an hour. Even happened when on phone. I can be sat within metre of hub and it still drops off. How can I tell if someone is interfering with the WiFi connection in the house? What do I need to be asking them to check regarding the copper resistance. One customer service representative said he'd reset the Cooper. Personally I can't see that happening as engineer previously picked it up by getting to the house only.
Like I said I'm getting so worried as broadband is essential for my job.
ThanksApparently I said last post was solved but it's not. Can someone advise on my line info? Thanks

MacBook air keeps freezing. help please!
I have recently purchased a MacBook Air and every time I go to watch something on Skygo it keeps freezing. There's nothing I can do. No buttons work, I can't reset it and if I shut the screen down it remains still running. The only option i'm left with is to wait until the battery runs out then I start it up again. This has happend 3 times now and I have only had the Mac just over a week. Can anybody help me please?
To perform a forced shutdown, hold the power button for about 10 seconds. If this is the only time your computer is crashing I'd suggest first using a different browser, maybe FireFox instead of Safari (or Safari instead of FireFox). Since I don't know how these videos are delivered (Flash, QuickTime streaming, etc) I can't make any suggestions there but you might have some luck with Skygo's tech support.

Private/tmp alias folder keeps appearing - help please
I keep finding a new alias folder created on the top level of my hard drive. The name of the folder is "tmp" when I open it I find...
printers (folder)
objcsharing_ppc92
objcsharing_ppc501
objcsharing_ppc4294967294
hsperfdata_bingalls (folder)
cscache_lock92
501 (folder)
When I look at the hierarchy it says "G5/HD1/private/tmp" private is dimmed so I can not select it to move up to that level.
I have deleted this folder twice now (always being prompted for admin password) but it keeps reappearing.
Anyone know why this is happening or what app/widget might be doing this? Is it a normal glitch or hacker?Well - I did not have Developer Tools installed so I tried to use File Properties Editor, but that became confusing because when I dragged & dropped the "tmp" alias folder into the app it showed me a bunch of files that made no sense to me at all. I toggled some from visible to invisible and relaunched the finder and yet the alias was still there. I also noticed at set extension to invisible option - tried that without luck. Now I'm freaked that i may not have set everything back to the way it was. I hope I did!
So now I have installed the develpoer tools and run the command you gave me in terminal, but I get this error..

Itunes keeps crashing, help please!!
so today I updated my software (included quicktime, itunes, and a security update) and even downloaded the safari 3 beta. so after I installed the safari 3 beta, everything with safari worked fine. after installing itunes 7.2, it would keep crashing. so I figured the problem was with 7.2, so uninstalled it and reinstalled 7.1, kept crashing. so then I uninstalled and reinstalled safari 2, thinking that would fix everything. nope, itunes keeps crashing. any ideas, please help, thanks
I actually figured it out. I reinstalled my itunes to 7.1 and then installed 7.2 for the heck of it. and then I realized (after reading how some plug-ins have been screwing it up) that I had installed a plug-in a long time ago and had forgotten about it, so I simply deleted that and everything is fine. So, to the guy that's having the same problem, make sure you don't have any plug-ins installed and if so just delete them.

Incorrect RAM (iMacs are extremely sensitive to this)
Failed RAM
Unseated RAM
Please removed the upgraded RAM that was added to the machine and then retest. If the machine works OK, that confirms it's a RAM issue.
On these forums the experienced users tend to all agree that RAM should come from a reputable supplier such as OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial. -
