Broadband Option 3 Monthly Cost Without Discounts
Hello wondering if anybody could help me, I'm trying to find out how much my broadband option 3 costs a month without any discounts.
My 12 month contract ended last month on my package, line rental, calls and broadband, last couple of times I have rung BT up all there interested is in getting me signed up to another 12 or 24 month contract which isn't going to happen. I don't appreciate been pressurized into make decisions.
Thank you

Broadband monthly usage BT Broadband Option 1
We started using BT Broadband Option 1 last month and have a download limit of 10GB each month. We were quite surprised to receive an email saying we'd already used over 7.5GB during February. We don't download music or films and most of our internet useage is sending a few emails, some browsing (but not excessive) and Facebook most days for a while. Does anyone know whether using Facebook for games would cause our usage to be high? I also bought a card making computer programme which involved some digital downloads, so maybe this has also added a lot to the usage.(Our previous internet provider gave a 40GB allowance, so we've never come across this problem before but the customer service was so bad we needed to change.) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks again to you both. It's made us a bit wiser how quickly the allowance can be used up. Thanks also for pointing out where we can find the usage monitor. I've made a note of it and will be checking the monitor daily.
Hi Susie.
For a quick link to the usage monitor, have a look at my shortcuts (link below) options 14d-14j - the latter two are for the newest version.

Can I revert back to Broadband option 3 ?
I have just got my first onlinre bill from BT after upgrading to BT Infinity2 from BT Broadband Option3 and got the shock of my life to be charged much more than I was expecting.
When I was 1st contacted by BT to be told that BT Infinity was in my area and it would only cost about £2 more per month with a one off charge of £6.95 for the delivery of the BT equipment for Infinity.I was quite happy with that and said "yes please. At no time was I told that I would lose my quarterley discount of £20.55 and also I was not told that the line rental would not be included in the package as it was with Broadband3, so I shall have to find an extra £43.80. This means that I shall have to pay between £40 and £50 extra each quarter, which as a pensioner on the basic pension I can not afford. Also I was not told that having a wireless connection means that I can't benefit from the the higher speeds promised with BT Infinity anyway so all in all I am much worse off. This infinity package was installed on October 18th and I got the bill today (December 4rd ) I should like to go back to Broadband Option 3. Is this possible, I can't find anything on the BT Help pages to help me
Solved!
Go to Solution. The rental amount is the same but before it was included in the package not seperate as with Infinity. All my previous bills with Broadband Option 3 have been around the £130 mark for the quarter, including phone calls : Total line rental & Broadband and other basic charges £95.55 Phone usage 36.34: Total including Vat £ 131.89
Charges for BT Infinity 2 in advance for next quarter £78 (@£26.00 per month ) plus line rental @ 43.80=£121.80 plus phone calls made, (estimated £40) Total £161 -
Is it BT Yahoo / Total Broadband / Option 3 / or d...
Hopefully someone here can help.
We signed up with BT Openworld back in 2003 which subsequently morphed into BT Yahoo. Since then the service has continued without much issue. (Just a loss of service because BT randomly disconnected us which then took weeks to resolve; plus paying £28+ a month for a 2Mb line - but other than that, not much issue).
Other than these few problems that is:
a) we have never seen a bill for this service. Trying to click view bills via the BT Yahoo page doesn't work.
b) in the BT Yahoo account page it says we are on BT Total Broadband Option 3. However, when you go to My BT on BT.com and look at our account (the account has the phone bill showing) we can't see any Broadband listed. In fact, they suggest signing up.....
c) trying to apply for an Accelerator (old iplate), when typing in our phone number and postcode, it confidently states that we don't have BT Broadband. Ironically, I'm using BT broadband to access the page...
d) back in October last year I received an email on the BTinternet.com email address telling me the great news that my BT Yahoo account was being moved to BT Total Broadband and that I would be receiving an email when this was done, confirmation of my account number, speeds of up to 20Mb, something to tell me how to view a bill for the first time in 8 years, etc. Nothing has ever been received. We have never received a new home hub for example. No speed increase. No account number, nothing.
Here's the link telling us what we should have won: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14401/c/761/?s_cid=con_FURL_help/newaccount
e) trying to follow this up with anyone has always been met with "What is your account number"? It seems hard for them to understand that without a bill or any communication with BT, I don't have an account number and I can't find one anywhere else. I have of course offered to make one up.
f) the line speed sits resolutely at 2Mb. It doesn't matter what router is used, whether the router is plugged into the master socket, whether I tell all my neighbours to have an internet free day, etc.
We can't help but assume our account has been left on an old BT Yahoo set up, with 2Mb maximum and nothing has been done to bring our account to Total Broadband, sort the speed out, merge our accounts with our normal BT bill and allow us to look at a rarely-spotted invoice. Getting my hands on a BT Accelerator would be great too.
Can anyone help here...?
Jeremy.Hi, I've been browsing the forums for general interest and have a somewhat related enquiry to the above queries.
I have been with BT Yahoo Broadband (and whatever came before that) for some years. Last year I had an email to say that (quote):
"Good news. We’re sprucing up some of our systems over the next few months, replacing BT Yahoo! Broadband with BT Total Broadband. We’ll need to give you a new account number but you’ll pay the same and get a better service and more features for your money..." (followed by the 'features' of Total Broadband Option 3).
A few days ago I had an email to say (quote)
"Remember our email about moving you to BT Total Broadband and changing your account number? You’re now on BT Total Broadband and your new account number is GB100XXXXX."
One good thing - for the first time I have an account number that I can quote!
My query is: do my methods of payment stay the same? I am debited every month from my credit card for broadband as the owner of the BT line itself is not me but my partner, and therefore a separate phone account. So far, I have not seen a charge against my credit card this month, and it would have been due now.
I did try and ring one of the helplines today, but sadly the competence of the staff in India has not improved since my last problem with billing (updating credit card details) last December. They were completely clueless, although very polite.
Incidentally the BT Broadband postcode checker suggests that I'd be able to get 7.0 - 8.0MB speed, but mine remains at 2MB, which is what I have had for a long time. I don't for one minute doubt thatI wouldn't get the maximum, but I'd have thought I'd be getting a little better than the 1.8 MB download I currently average....if indeed I have been transferred over as the emails have suggested? -
BT BT Broadband Option 2 Issues
Hi All,
First post here, am after some advice, guidance and hopefully some info to help me tackle an issue with BT Broadband. When I speak to BT shortly I want to guarantee that I am providing them with enough information to get a satisfactory resolution. After reading through multiple forums a full-on approach seems necessary.
The basic details.
1. BT BB option 2.
2. Best sync speed (Downstream) 1834k (Monitored over 9 months, didn’t know about IP Profile or BRAS till about a month ago)
3. Best recorded speedtester.bt.com overall result over 9 months was 1456 kbps
Present results (I know the profile is low part of the issue I think and will come to that later)
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
446 Kbps
0 Kbps 500 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 446 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :1792 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps
I’ll keep it short but will give some background. Over the last 9 months. The BT Broadband Option 2 has been slow, intermittently slow speeds and just generally poorer than expected.
My expectations for this connection are for a connection of around 2 mb. (Give or take the variations due to Attn and SNR, length i am form the exchange etc) Think broadband has people only a couple of streets away with connections of around 6mb
I’ve had 1 visit form a BT engineer following a 2 week period of sub 500k speeds. Unfortunately I don’t know what my IP Profile was set to at that time as I have been on a learning experience trying to get to the bottom of it and didn’t know to look for that previously. The sync speed was about 1700 kbps then though.
He replaced the main faceplate on the master socket with an openreach one (has the inline filtering as far as I know). He had the line re-profiled and all was well for another couple of months.
My present stats are (Via the test socket)
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1792 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.0 dB 31.5 dB
Noise Margin 12.5 dB 17.0 dB
I noticed that it was slowing again about 3 weeks ago and since then I have tried to be methodical in my troubleshooting. (Knowing it can take 5 days for the IP Profile to stabilise) I have done the following in this order:
1. Reset the BT HH (It’s a HH1)
2. Removed additional peripherals form the extension lines (Skybox and extensions)
3. Swapped Microfilters on extension socket where router was seated
4. Changed routers to a DGN2000
5. Move it to the Test socket in the master socket. New Microfilter (Up for 48 hours, will leave it up to hopefully improve the IP Profile, so probably still reprofiling that atm.)
They are all new D-Link Microfilters. These were changed at the last call out 2 months ago.
So after lots of reading in the last week on Kitz, SamKnows, digitalspy and the Openworld forums. I have drawn these conclusions on my present connection stats.
My Line Attn is high. According to samknows, I am 1.69km from the exchange (as the crow flies).
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php
With a line attenuation of 63.0 db that would have a cable length of 4.6km this seems crazy to me, is it possible that my cable length could be so long? (I understand some give and take but that is nearly there and back again and then there again)
My SNRM seems low, should be at least 6 dB? Am I correct and have I worked that out correctly?
I’ve been running RouterStats –lite for 2 days and have had a couple of drops, though the router has a 48 hour uptime after its most recent move (i.e. no physical connection drop according to the router). My Speed has been 1792kbps (Via the test socked) Noise 12.8 dB constantly for both without the 2 drops. Which seem instantaneous.
So in conclusion can anyone point out where to start with BT? Are my expectations reasonable? Theory seems to suggest I could get up to 4mb. Dependant on copper quality etc.
Thanks in advance and I hope that that’s not too much info. All suggestions welcome. (My father is the BT Bill payer so this is on his behalf, if Moderators need more info please ask)
JamesThanks for quick reponse.
Yeah i've done the quiet line test. As far as my hearing goes, i'd say there where no obvious noises, though perhaps a little background hiss. (Only have a cordless phone)

Youview with Broadband option 2?
Thinking of giving Youview a go , at the mo' i am with Sky and have been for many many years. Can't fault Sky or the equipment so easy to use but price is now a little steep. I do have the Movie package i do not like sports so no problem there, my only concern is due to my location i can only get about 20 Freeview stations [we are on a relay?] Now most of my / our stations are the mains ones which i can get 12345, can't get film 4 but may consider the new Sky Now TV for films however; what is the quality like? being downloaded must affect sound and picture? is it in 5.1 ? . Of course Lovefilm is another option with my 2 main films at home in bluray, the rest streamed.
Anyone tried Sky Now? how does it compare to Lovefilm? Looking at the full package for Youview [12.50]? + a film sub , my other quwstion is i am on BT opt 2 40gb , i seem to remember getting an email from BT saying i could have Youview if i went on OPT3 UNLIMITED ? don't want to up my bb costs as i average out at 16 gb a month use., TaFrom a google search - this was on bt.com before they took it down to upgrade:

What is the monthly cost to add an addittional smartphone?
My daughter would like a phone for Christmas. We are attempting to determine what the additional monthly costs would be to add a additional smartphone to our plan (above and beyond the initial costs for the phone itself).
That would depend on the plan and the way you purchase the phone. More Everything - $40 line access, discounted for EDGE payment plan, or no contract purchase (full price) based on total data bucket. $9.99 line fee and $30 for 2gb data if you are on the old Nationwide plan and want to stay there.
Basically $40 added to your monthly bill for the additional line and data...with a [possible discount based on other factors. -
Upgrade from BT Broadband Option 3 to Infinity Opt...
Hi,
Do I have to call BT and ask them to stop my BT Broadband Option 3 before I order an Infinity? Or can I just order it now and it'll replace my current broadband?
Thanks!Usually if you ring them up and tell them you are on option 3 and you want infinity they will tie you to another 12 month contract or whatever the contract length is.

Broadband Option 3 up for renewal, still 8mb issue...
I have been on Broadband Option 3 up to 8mb for a while and after numerous calls to BT (India) I have still not managed to have my line upgraded to up to 20mb which the line can carry. I have had it tested, put the Home Hub info into corresponding websites and been told the line can sustain up to 20mb but for some reason I keep getting fobbed off and told I'll have to wait.
Well my broadband is up for renewal so I thought I'll be holding all the cards as it where. It appears not. I still do not have any guarantee that the service I will be getting will be up to 20mb they tall me I'll have to wait for my line to be upgraded. Well I've waited about 10 months now and are not going to renew unless I get up to 20mb.
I have telephoned the sales desk who put me through to technical support in India who ask me play school questions and get me to perform childish tasks and no matter how many times I tell them I still can't get an up to 20mb contract deal.
What do I do to finally get the service for which I am paying for and the line can sustain?
Your advise and knowledge will be gratefully needed.

I have emailed the mods via the above link (john46) so hopefully they will intervene and sort some out.
In answer to some of the questions my exchange is Chislehurst and I'm only 1.4kms away from my local exchange and have:
Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
The following services are available in your location:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
BT FTTC
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Tiscali LLU
Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
Virgin Media (Cable)
As you can see the exchange is ready for an upto 20mb broadband service.
I should have mentioned before I have another phone line in the house used purely for broadband. Lots of family members competing for broadband width and this has been upgraded to 20mb for about a year now.
So if one line is why not the other ??
Anyway, fingers crossed it'll happen once the mods get involved.
Cheers. -
Unlimited broadband / total broadband option 3
Hi, can anyone tell me if the totally unlimited broadband free for 6 months £16 month after is the same as the bt total broadband option 3 ? i ordered the unlimited but in my account it says total broadband option 3 ? are they the same package?
Solved!
Go to Solution.By the look of the BT website, there is no longer BT option 3. There seems to be BTunlimited and BT unlimited extra. The BTunlimited extra looks like it is the same as the old Option 3. If you are only paying £16 then it looks like you are on BTunlimited.
To be sure you should give customer services a call and they will confirm what you are on.

Upgrade to BT Broadband Option 2
Hi,
I'm currently on BT Broadband Option 1 but have gone over the 10GB limit every month for the last three months. I'd like to upgrade to Option 2 for the 40GB for £18 p/m but when I go through the upgrade process on the website I get told I can only go to Option 3 for £28 p/m. 40GB is plenty for my requirements, I don't need unlimited broadband.
Does anybody know why I wouldn't be able to go from Option 1 to Option 2?
Thanks in advance.

Broadband Option 2 allowance upgrade
I saw that BT have doubled the allowance for BB option 2 which I'm on. It's now 40gig. Does this apply to all current customers too?
I ask because I got an email informing me I was close to my 20gig limit? Would be really cheeky if the new allowance doesn't apply to current customers. I started watching more YouTube and iPlayer stuff and also streaming more music from Spotify. Hope I'm not going to suddenly get landed with a huge bill, all because I read the allowance has been increased! From a google search - this was on bt.com before they took it down to upgrade:

If I purchase a phone online can I get the monthly payment without the two year contract?
There is the Edge payment option to spread the full retail price of the phone over the course of two years. It is a payment contract and not a service contract.

Broadband Option 1 cheaper options?
Hi
I have been on Broadband Option 1 since joining up to BT many years ago. I do not use the internet that much and and not bothered if I do not have the fastest speed and I do want to stay with BT. I am currently paying £18.85 per month. Are there better packages that I could go on. I am so confused by different packages and tariffs and I have seen lower rentals but am unsure that it would be cheaper in reality as there are normally hidden charges somewhere!
Many thankswhen was the last time you renewed your contract? if more than 12 months then phone the options team and get a better deal for agreeing a new 12 month contract

BT total broadband option 3 general questions
Potential new customer here but got some questions after speaking to BT customer services who have totally confused me so not exactly a good start.
I am looking at bt total broadband option 3 for 19.99 a month for 3 months and 27.99 there after and would love it if someone could clarify the following.
1. Does this package really come with unlimited wifi (openzone, fon) as BT customer services told me this is extra?
2. If I take out the mobile broadband option with 1gb is that a one time offer or do I get 1gb free each month?
3. If I ever go over the FUP of 300gb is it true my broadband will be throttled for 30 days?
Hopefully someone can clarify these questions for me.
Happy New Year!!!

AFAIK the "peak times throttling" applies for 30 days, not until the billing start date. See :-
