Broadband speed has slowed massively

Hi I normally get very good speed from my broadband at least 8mb. However since Monday the speed has dropped to 0.2 mb. I have been on the phone to bt but they can't find anything without sending an engineer. I have signed up already for infinity which is being set up on the 7th January. I don't want to pay an engineer for the short space of time I will have to wait but is there anything I can do? My landline is working fine getting calls in and out. Apparently bt were running tests on their new infinity lines don't know if that has affected my broadband connection. I haven't asked my neighbours if there broadband is ok?

any thing regarding fibre will have no effects on standard broadband

  • Broadband speed very slow (again)

My broadband speed has been very slow for the past week or so, very hard to stream videos, download etc. Broadband download speed is normally around 7-8mbps mark and has been around 1-2 or lower this past week.
    Speed test..
ADSL stats (I think a housemate must have reset the router 2 days ago)..
There are no problems reported at my local exchange.
I already had this same problem in January. It was fixed for a while but now it is really slow again.. https://community.bt.com/t5/ADSL-Copper-Broadband-Speed/Speed-way-way-down-on-normal/td-p/1149716

this is not the same as last time.. last time your speed was down at about 2mb wheras this time you have 11mb connection.
can you run btspeedtester again with wired connection and when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post results

  • Speed has slowed to nil  how do i delete all icons running in background?

speed has slowed to nil. How do I delete all icons running in background?

To close an app, drag the app up from the multitasking display.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app thumbnail to close it.
    this might help as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Startup Speed Has Slowed To Over 1 Minute

I bought my Mac Book Pro back in July when the Santa Rosa processors were released.
    These are my specs:
    -2.2GHZ Santa Rosa
    -2GB of RAM
    -128 Dedicated RAM
    -Leopard 10.5.1
    -120 GB HD, 47GB Available
Since my purchase the startup speed has slowed to over 1min. It's kind of annoying that my MPB would load in 20 sec when I purchased it and now its time is about 3 to 4 times that.
Does anyone have any ideas to make my startup fast?

Try shutting down. Then as you hit the power button, hold the shift key down until you see the 'thinking apple' i.e., the grey apple with the spinner below it. The boot this time will take a while because your Mac is performing routine disk repairs. Once you are booted up, you are in 'safe mode', i.e., no add ons are running. Restart at this time and see if you don't boot quicker. If not, open the utility "Activity Monitor" and see what is running. Sort it by CPU usage. You may have added something running in the background that is hogging cycles and slowing everything down. I hope this is helpful.

Since installing Maverick, speed has slowed down considerably. Not able to export photos form email to iphoto. What is going on?

    When did you install?
Spotlight will need to re-index the entire system so that can cause slow performance if you updated recently. It can take many hours on a large disk with a lot of data. Click the Spotlight menu, it should say if it is still indexing.
There is no point trying to fix anything whilst this is ongoing, because it may just speed up when complete.
Are you able to drag photos from email to the Desktop or to iPhoto's icon? How about the 'File menu > Save attachments' option?
Please clarify what you have tried, otherwise we may waste time on the wrong thing.
If the system is generally unstable there are other things to try too, such as safe boot.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
That will isolate all third party software, if the Mac is able to do the things that didn't work it suggests that you have software that is loading at startup or login. The easiest way for us to see these is if you download EtreCheck & generate a report.
Post the report here & we can try pointing to items that you can either update or remove.

  • Broadband speed has dropped after i changed to opt...

I joined BT in August.  I was on the broadband option 1 package, but i decided to change to the unlimited download package which was changed over on the 24th October.  Since then, my broadband speed has reduced drastically. I rang BT who said they would reset my profile but this hasn't helped.
I have a wired connection which is connected to the master NTE5 socket. I have a Hub 3 which i never turn off. My speedtest results are.........
Download speedachieved during the test was - 263 Kbps

    Thanks, Claire

the upgrade should not affect your connection as there is no physical change to your line.  however from the stats your download is rubbish and you should contact mods for help  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
your connection speed and profile are ok

  • Broadband speed constantly slow

Hi guys I'm posting a similar problem that I posted a few weeks ago I have been having problems with broadband speed for the past week. My broadband speed has gone from on average around 6mbps to on average 1.4mbs. Since last week my download speed has constantly stayed around this speed and I'm starting to get a little frustrated. I have contacted bt via live help and they stated I have a ? Fault on my line however the department I was transferred too told me the issue was at my end. I have done the usually tests using the test socket and wired connection however the problem remains.
It's almost as if my speed is capped at 1.4 because it doesn't change. This happened last month but seems to resolve itself.
    Please help !!

you have the max connection speed for adslmax 7938 but your conenction time is only 15hrs - is that due to router dropping connection or manual resets or maybe both?
you need to stay connected 24/7 with no resets and profile should correct itself automatically in 3+ days.  if no change in 3 days then repost stats and btspeedtester diagnostic test - follows first test - and mods will help
can you run btspeedtester and when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post results  should confirm profile currently at 2mb

  • Broadband speed has been slow for almost 2 weeks.

I have been getting slow to extremely slow connection speed for almost 2 weeks now.
IP Profile for your line is - 9446 Kbps
Download speedachieved during the test was - 3548 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4000-21000 Kbps.
Just made this test and this is the FASTEST i have ever tested on the connection. Usually its more like 1000-2000kbps
The upload sits around 40-70kbps most of the time which is also extremely slow.
I have tried using 4 different filters. 2 different routers and my computer is directly connected to the router. I had no problems before this and my speed has always been good or great (20000kbps)
I have used a lot of time on the phone with the call center and they keep coming up with useless explanations and excuses for why the connection is slow (I work with this every day myself so i know that they have no clue)
This is my last shot to get a solution to this problem. If not i guess i will have to change service provider since the connection i have now is so bad i cant do anything else than reading stuff on the internet and sometimes watch a youtube video. My internet connection is vital to me since i use it for work so this is very annoying.
So... Does anyone have any idea what i can do?

  • Broadband speed has been terrible with really bad ...

Hi, for the past few days i have been receiving a really bad broadband speed, its varies from 0.90Mbps to 5Mbps normally i would be getting around 3.50mbps to 5mbps but lately its been terrible constatly changing. I tested my speed on speedtest.net and was getting a ping of around 100 + and sometimes it will go down to 50 ish. I have contacted BT the other day and they said they would get back to me today but they have not. Also for the past few days my connection has been dropping but since contacting BT that has stopped but im still getting slow download speeds to the point i cant even watch a YouTube video on a low video quality.
What i want to know is why i am getting so slow download speeds and a very unstable connection?
Is there a problem in my area? I have no changed any settings messed around with any cables to make my connection drop.
    Thanks for any help.

Can you also post the full results from http://speedtester.bt.com/
Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
also you could try the hints given by poster RogerB in this link they may help http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-in-Home/Poor-Broadband-speed/m-p/14217#M8397
Then someone here may be able to help and offer more advice.

  • Broadband Speed has dropped

Hello, my family have been with BT for a good 5 years now and haven't had many problems at all. We are using the BT Home Hub 2.0, and have been so for about 3 years. The broadband speed is generally very good and I have had no reason to complain at all, however we encountered a problem which began about a week ago. Last week the broadband began to slow down and cut out every 5 minutes or so for a whole day, so I thought to switch the Hub off at the wall overnight as it may help. I switched it back on in the morning and sure enough it had stopped cutting out, BUT now the broadband speed seems to have dropped hugely. I use the wireless to play Xbox and for my computer to do work and watch the occasional YouTube video but am being forced to not be able to watch or do any work as the speed is that bad. The only devices connected to the Hub are my computer, my brother's and my Dad's iPod, and also the main family computer when it is in use (barely ever). However these have always been connected so it can't be any problems with these that have caused the broadband to slow down. Does anyone have any idea what could have occured to trigger this problem, and how I may be able to sort it?
    Thankyou.

  • Broadband Speed - So Slow Its Unuseable

I need some advice on how to tackle my current broadband speed problems with BT; if there is indeed an answer?  Before i begin I will state that I am a rural customer many miles from the exchange and I do not expect proper broadband speed, i always had a slow connection but I  just want what I got before.
I was achieving about 95kb/s connection since I signed up with BT last April (woes of getting that done and removing the DAX on the line are on another thread somewhere on this forum) which is terrible but what I accepted and paid over my cash for and it has been consistent at that speed since then.  However, for the last 2 weeks its now dropped to an average speed of 29kb/s.
Since April my router had only been rebooted twice duce to powercuts and it had never dropped the connection, however slow it may be, so its not excessive rebooting effecting the line.  Noise however has gone through the roof.  Noise margin is now displaying at 9.1db and the line attenutation is 69.3db...  Before the drop off this was never good but around the 7db margin level with about 60db attenuation on on the down line.  The sync rate has also dropped from nearly 2 Mbps to 1.063.  Full stats from router settings here:

I'm connected to the master socket with a Openreach fitted BT ADSL faceplate.  I've tried connecting to the router both wireless and wired with no difference to performance.   I contacted BT by phone 5 days ago and went through the usual reboot the router etc ordeal. They then agreed to reset the line but that has made no difference, if they did indeed do  anything at all?
Running the speedtest from http://www.speedtester.bt.com my results are as follows:
    Download Speed (Mbps): 0.31
    Upload Speed (Mbps): 0.36
    Ping Latency (ms): 41.38
I know it sounds paranoid but the same day this dropped off I saw on the way to work an Openreach van working in the village on the roadside cabinet.  Just seems that there has been some alteration to their infrastructure locally and its taken my connection from bloomin slow to unusable..
    Ideas?

Yeah i realise my profile is correct for my connection speed.  But in real world terms dropping from 80kb/s into the 20s makes a major difference to useabilty.  If you were on some infinity connection or even a 8mbps max connection you wouldn't even notice but when thats all you have it makes a mockery of the money you are sending to BT each month/
I Shall go through the old favourite of contacting a mod then.  Check my old thread Johjn46 where you and I went through this procedure with getting me signed up and things with mods never worked out as you promised they would

  • Broadband speed SO SLOW!

So my download speed has been slow for about 3 months now, but at this point its starting to really get annoying. Download speed on steam is 30KB/s and no matter what device i test, my desktop connected via ethernet or a iPhone connected via wireless the ping is high and the speeds are slow.
Anyone able to help. Here is what the Hub says. If you need anymore information just let me know.

Speeds have been slow and are not getting better. Everyone on the forum has said just wait and it will configure itself. Well guess what, its been weeks and weeks without improvment. Every four days the hub would reset and change speeds, but this would sometimes be by less then 0.02Mbps. This is the reason the up time is just around 4 hours. Instead of speeds getting faster the upload speed was is decreased.
Can anyone help me get some of the speeds i am predicted by BT?

  • Script has slowed massively due to Snow Leopard

I am using AppleScript to retrieve jobs from our job server (afp mount). What used to take a couple seconds in Leopard now takes minutes (or times out completely)
Here is the portion of the code that has slowed to a crawl. (theYearFolder and theJobNumber is defined earlier in the script)
    tell application "Finder"
    with timeout of 777 seconds
    try
*duplicate (every folder in theYearFolder whose name begins with thejobnumber) to the desktop*
    on error the error_message
display dialog the error_message buttons {"Cancel"} default button 1 with icon caution
    end try
    end timeout
    end tell
I am aware that there are some new changes in SL that cause certain operations to be duplicated if they are called inside a Finder tell block. As far as I can tell, that is not what is happening. Is there a known speed issue with the new Cocoa Finder + AppleScript? Or is there something I can change in my script that would speed up this operation?
PS …theYearFolder contains several hundred items.
    Ideas?

Here's a basic script that should give you a start:
    <pre style="margin:0px;padding:5px;border:2px dotted green;width:630px; height:auto;color:#ffffff;background-color:#000000;overflow-x:auto;overflow-y:h idden;font-family:Verdana, Monaco, monospace;font-weight:bold;font-size:12px;"
title="Copy this text and paste it into your Script Editor application.">set theYearFolder to choose folder
    set theJobNumber to 2
    do shell script "find " & ¬
quoted form of text 1 through -2 of POSIX path of theYearFolder & ¬
    " -type d -name '" & theJobNumber & "*' -exec cp -R '{}' ~/Desktop \\;"</pre>
Of course you won't need the first couple lines of code, I just used those to write the script. Hope this helps...

When we first got setup around 6 weeks ago the broadband was fine but we had some noise on the phone line which we was told would settle down. - it did then got progressively worse and eventually the phone stopped working all together while the bt router continually lost connection to the broadband. After chasing BT for over 2 weeks we finally had an engineer out who found the phone line problem (previous engineer pinched two wires together causing it to burn out and short the circuit). we was told the broadband speed should pick back up after 3 or 4 days....today has been 5 days and doing a speedtest reveals my download speed to be (on average) 22kb/s with an upload speed of 15kb/s. Web pages take FOREVER to load and anything beyond text you may aswell give up waiting for. Just 6 weeks ago when shiny and new we was getting over 9mb/s - nothing changed internally the setup is all the same just the phone line issue.
Is there ANYTHING i can do to speed this process up? I'm quite put off after the experience i have had with BT services so far and the support have been hopeless.
Heres hoping someone has some ideas!

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you  run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem
