Hi All
After months of bouncing around Openreach agreed I had a issue with my line only getting to 8mb
manged to get then to change the cable pair from the exchange to the cab.
now getting the speeds I thought and knew I should get.

the upload still appears to be blocked at 888 should that be open to higher uploads.

I think the results so far could be the line and the hub getting used to each other with the fast download speeds.

  • Broadband upload speed almost stopped

    Hi there
    Been with BT quite a while; our usual speed is 700kbps downland, 400ish kbps upload.
    As of Thursday, download has dropped to 400kbps which is frustrating, but far worse is upload - now gone down to just 5kbps which is unusable. I run an online business full-time and can't even ftp simple text files to my server without timing out (and posting this message has taken an age).
    Can anyone help please?

    Very slow upload speed via infinity 2 (business) unlimited after phone line fix (street cabinet) ?
    Had my line fixed today by engineer (no dial tone).
    Download rate near normal but upload = 0.73Mbps!?
    I reset modem and router after he left and appreciate my profile is probably in need of some TLC after a weeks line fault, but is this normal in this situation? I heard it can take some time to reprofile my line and before it was fixed it was even worse at 0.10Mbps
    Just seems very low considered the line is now operational again.

    48Hrs+ on from residential line reconnection my business infinity 2 broadband upload speed is now approaching normal speed levels.
    What a 10 days that was all because some ass disturbed the cabling in the street cabinet!
    Yes I'm aware I have business broadband and am talking about it in a residential based forum, but my actual phone line is still residential that it is supplied over and the business broadband product is much the same animal as that supplied to residential customers i.e. Infinity 2 Unlimited. Only the mail and option of static i.p. appear different - that is all.
    Jeez.

    hello there
    my name is gabrio, i live in fairholme road in west kensington... i wanted to ask how is the performance with BT broadband 20mbit in this area since i am thinking to request my own line given that at the moment in the flat where i live they have a shared connection which is really **bleep** especially in the evenngs so i want my own.
    i read on forums that upload speed is just 448kbit which is a bit of ridiculous to me and i don't think we can get infinity yet in this area so that's what i would expect...
    can somebody give me an idea about performance of BT? we should be on the Fulham Exchange if i am not wrong. i see the street cabinets from my window, apartment is pretty new so i think cables are in decent good condition.

    according to this site http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search your exchange has been upgraded to 21CN and therefore any phone line should be able to get up to 20mb.. however this is dependant on the distnace you are from the exchange and also the quality of your line.
    with 21CN you can get an upload of about 1mb and not the adsl figure of 448kb

  • Restricted upload speed Bigpond Cable Broadband Brisbane

    Hi, I checked the Telstra Service Status page for my suburb with nothing to explain the problems I am having today. My applications are crashing and disconnecting and generally behaving quite slowly. I have tried restarting the router, wifi gateway and the computers. When I go to speedtest.net or speedof.me, they show that I have great download speed (25-30 Mbps) but almost no upload speed. Sometimes the upload test fails, sometimes it shows about 0.1 Mbps. Sometimes the test shows 1 Mbps which I think should be normal for the Cable broadband service. But the results are erratic and the internet is hard to use in general. Is there actually an outage in my area? MrKimAGroves

  • Download and upload speed issues

    Hi I am new to the forum and I am having problems with my broadband speed I get approx 6.8mb download speed but what appears to be happening is when I surf the net the speed is 6.8mb but the problem is when I download the speed drops to max 2mb can be as low as 0.6mb does anyone know why this would be happening, I have read on the forum that you should keep your home hub on 24/7 must admit haven't been doing this usually turn it off when no one is in the house. The other issue is my upload speed is poor only get approx 0.3mb when I was with O2 before I changed to bt in the summer I was getting 1mb upload any ideas how to improve this

  • Very Low Upload Speed

    I wonder if anyone can help, as the BT helpdesk have refused to acknowledge that I have a problem. My BT Infinity Download speed os very good, around 30 mbits/sec. My Upload speed is very very poor, if fluctuates between 0.3 and 0.5 mbits/sec. If I use wireshark to capture the packets used when the BT Wholesale test is running I can see that I have a high packet loss rate for outgoing packets. So something is wrong. I remotely control the PC in my office from my home PC and the performance of this is definitely a lot poorer than it was recently. Kids have also complained about Itunes and stuff. Loss of packets on the outgoing link will damage download performance as the TCP ACKs are not getting back to teh data sender. Any advice on howe I can get BT to accept I have some kind of fault and do something about it? Their recommendation was that I get Business Broadband!!!!

  • Silly Questions - Upload Speed & Hardware

    Hi tere network people,
    Networking ignorant here in need of your help.
    I'm using a PowerMac G4 as a server and I have a PHP website going to share some pics with friends.
    Some lamented it can be slow to download the pictures on their side (Most, if not all, have Broadband). The picture files are not huge, but my connection is only a residential Broadband one.
    The ISP states that: "The upload speed is 256 Kilobits/Sec. Average upload rates are circa 20 Kilobytes/Sec."
    Coming to my silly questions:
    1) How much my Upload speed should be to confortably support 5-10 users at a time?
    2) Since I got a new PM G4 with a 7200 rpm HD and a Gigabit Ethernet port and a slightly faster processor, should I look at the modem/router specs? Can they affect/limit upload speed?
    If anyone can give me some basic tips, I'd be grateful.

    1) How much my Upload speed should be to confortably support 5-10 users at a time?
    That's easy to calculate.
    Assume that your 10 users are on broadband connections with a 1mbps download speed. In order to fulfill everyone's demands at top speed you need a 1mpbs x 10, or 10mpbs upload speed.
    Of course, it's unlikely that everyone will download files at the same time, and it's also unlikely that they'll sustain 100% of their rated download speed, so you can probably halve that figure without any noticeable degradation, but even 5mpbs is way higher than your current 256kbps upload link.
    It's also clear that your internet connection is your bottleneck. Upgrading the server isn't going to make any difference.

  • Maximum upload speed of 2700HGV?

    Hi. I'm using the 2wire BT2700HGV router on my Infinity connection, which should be about 66mbps download and 20mbps upload, according to the BT website when I ordered the connection.
    When I've got nothing but a single ethernet wire connecting me, and wifi switched off, the maximum speeds I get are about 75mbps download and about 10mbps upload.
    I've tried swapping the 2700HGV out for a Home Hub 3, and the speeds I get are up to about 75mbps download and 16mbps upload.
    The problem is, I need to use the 2700HGV, or a better alternative, as I need to use BT Broadband Voice through it. The Home Hub 3 just doesn't have a phone port, so it's simply not an option.
    I was wondering, what is the maximum upload speed the 2700HGV can actually achieve? Is it the router model that's the limitation, or just that I need to tweak it to get the desired upload speed?

  • Why does Telstra slow uploads speed down

    I have had ongoing issues with my internet connection over the last 18 mouths.Having a upload speed of 450/650 Kbps  very slow no good for gaming an down load of 8/11Mbps down load if more than I needTo the point I have spent good dollars try to insuring   that the infrastructures and the Asset Integrity with in house are in best condition this includes the replacement and work listed belowReplacement of the Wi-Fi system to a Cat.6 cabling at a cost of $2,300Replacement of the modem with a high speed 1G port modem at cost of $ 475Replacement of the fly-lead for the Telstra house connection to the new wall socket a cost of $360Total cost of $3135 this spend was braced on Telstra recommendation as the problem was with my part of the connection after a large number of call to my internet provider I at last had a appointment with a Telstra Tec to carry line testing and fault finding .At this point if no fault was found  I was the be billed at $60 per 15min or part off and travel cost as I live in Bullsbrook WA this may I high . Lucky for me a fault was found in the exchange and reconfigured and the speed and the Exchange improved   to 22Mbps down and 15 Mbps up an outstanding numbers >test at the house 15Mbps and so 5 / 7 Mbps loss for the Exchange to house don’t to good but still very happy with it BUT the upload was 650 kbps /750Kbps and please remember this testing was carry out by Telstra with good equipment so at this point I ask why the upload was so slow? After spending over $2000 and lot of time on the phone only to be told that Telstra slow the upload speed down so the max you can get is 1 Mbps and the only way you can increase this is by paying for a business line but you still may not get any more than 1MbpsThis is only a very small part of the story SO I LIKE TO ASK WHY IS TELSTRA SLOWING ME DOWNIf you like to know more please let me know

    The simple answer is, that's the way the system and hardware is designed, all ISP's are the same. Uploads are limited to around 1Mbps. If you wish to get higher upload speeds you can see if Cable Broadband or NBN are available in your area as these systems allow for higher upload speeds.
    Upload speeds are generally slower than download speeds because of the fact that most internet connected equipment is asymmetric. Asymmetric means that any one packet of data can either go in, or out, but not both ways at the same time. Since most internet users are receiving more data than sending, the internet connected equipment has shifted the higher majority of the signals to go toward downloading.
    If you wish to find out more about ADSL I have added a link to a Wikipedia article below along with the link to the NBN and Telstra websites so you can check to see if Cable Broadband or NBN is available in your area.

    Have recently moved back to BT from Talk Talk. Average speeds with talktalk were: 2800kbps down and around 400kbps up. This is what I am getting now!!!!!

    These speeds, coupled with a ping time of around 300ms has made my broadband worse than useless!!! The Kids are driving me mad as Xbox live and Call of Duty online is just a mere pipe dream the way it is at the moment
    Never thought I would say this, but why did I leave talktalk????
    What can I do???? Nothing has changed with my internal wiring and all I have done is change the talktalk router for the home hub.

    20Meg ADSL2+'s Upload speed is rate adaptive unlike the old 8Meg ADSL connections (Which are capped at 448kbps). Looking at your line attenuation, it looks like it won't get any better im afraid. Hopefully someone can confirm this. It could be that the homehub isn't as good on your line as your old TalkTalk router (It's been known to happen).

  • Slow Upload Speed - Please please help!

    Hi everybody.
    I've been speaking to BT for over a week now because of broadband issues. First, I used to get roughly 14Mbps download speed and about 0.9Mbps upload speed. Then last wednesday (15th May), it all went downhill. My download speed slowed down to 0.2Mbps and my upload about 0.3Mbps.
    Okay, now, forward one week, with an engineer visit on Monday, a line reset at some point (Mon, Tues or even 17th of May - everyone keeps telling me something different) and 6 hours of phone calls with India yesterday, my download speed is now brilliant, but my upload speed is still down to 0.3Mbps. They told me that it will increase incrementally because my line was reset and that it would be fine by midnight last night, but it wasn't at all. :-( It was still down to 0.38Mbps.
    They're going to send a boost engineer out on Tuesday, but it's such a long time away and I've had to go without broadband for over a week now.
    Does anyone know what the problem is? How it can be fixed? Please can somebody help me? I'm really at my wits' end.

    in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
    are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
    Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
    Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Diabolical upload speed/customer service issues

    Before Xmas I decided to switch to BT from Sky as I was hopeful that I would soon be able to get BT Infinity as my exchange (Radlett) was enabled last year. However the next day I phoned back as I had forgotten to check that the service included a static IP address. I was informed that BT do not offer static IP's to residential customers so I was given the option to cancel the switch and stay with BT. I confirmed that I wished to cancel the order and the operator told me that I did not need to take any further action.
    On 13th January I received a BT Hub 4 and a text message saying that my BT broadband/phone had been activated! I called customer services and they confirmed that the cancellation request had not been implemented and apologised. They suggested that I use the BT service until I could switch back to Sky. However the speed that I have had with BT has been terrible. I have made numerous calls to report the problem and received conflicting information. I have been promised call backs that never happen. I have been given a "priority" SMS number to request a call back within 1 hour that never happens.
    The problem I am having is that the ADSL service randomly drops out altogether (red light on Hub) but the whole time I have very very slow upload speeds. These range from 0.01mb to 0.03mb. This is completely unusable.
    I have had numerous line tests and speedtests. The line tests results have come back with different results. Finally they accepted there was a fault and an engineer visited on 20/1/15. He found a faulty cable outside the property which he repaired and said that everything was now fine. However whilst the drop outs have been less frequent and the upload speed is consistently above 10mb, the download speed is still 0.01mb to 0.03mb.
    The overseas call centre operators keep reading a scripted blurb about how BT do not give any upload speed guarantees. However when I reported the fault was still there on the evening of the engineer visit I was told that this would be because the line will take 24 hours to settle down and he guaranteed me that I would see a considerable improvement in upload the following day.
    My upload speed with Sky was always above 1mb.

    Lines should look like this

    I am tagging on the end of this thread as my issue seems very similar to the OP.
    For the record I am on an Openreach fibre converter and HH3
    The above has been updated, cycled and repeatedly played with no solution to the problem
    After two pointless and highly stressing sessions with the broadband help desk and then a call to customer services who accepted that there seemed to be an issue on my line, openreach then refused to visit as they did not contractually have to guarantee an upload speed. The fact is, until a few weeks ago my upload speed was good and now it is terrible.
    If I move to Plusnet, also supplied by Openreach, Plusnet have assured me they will drive openreach to deliver the published capability of the line which Openreach tell them is 56/17. Do I really have to migrate just to make openreach do their job?

    In order to rule out the Homehub as potentially being the device responsible for your speed loss, you can connect the Openreach modem directly to the PC and see if the speed improves.
    To do that follow these steps:
    Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem cable
    Step2: Connect your pc/laptop to the modem via the cable instead
    Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
    Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
    Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
    Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.
    However, please note that this will stop any other access apart from the PC

  • BT Broadband Up Speed is incredibly low

    So, a while back, around the last World Cup in 2010, BT started doing this promotional thing where they would go round your house, change your entire broadband and phoneline system, in an effort to make them more money on the World Cup for BT FreeView, anyways. When they did this, the speed of the internet went really, really, REALLY slow. And ever since I've had to live with BT ruining my internet. We're currently on the Unlimited Broadband package, and we are literally across the street, and directly opposite of the phoneline box thing. And my Download speed is fine, it's great in fact, my ping is also quite good. But my Upload speed, is just...awful. I'm averaging 255kb up speed at night and in the morning. And I've tried contacting your email support and your phone support, and that also, is just awful. I really need this to be sorted out as this is painstaking. I stream on twitch regularly and require good internet, but am limited in fps, quality, bandwidth, and most importantly...upload speed. Please if someone could help, do.
