Broadcast levels workflow

Hi there,
I teach Journalism production to undergrauate journalism students. We teach the Adobe apps: Audition, Premiere, InDesign, Photoshop.
In Audition, radio students construct stories with various recorded or sourced audio files in the Multitrack view, then mix them down to the Edit view for saving as MP3 files.
Naturally these source files vary in level and quality, depeding on where they came from.
I'm just wondering what other people's workflows are to get a neat, broadcast level mixdown with files of varying level, and how one workflow might be better than other workflows (or the ones we're using now). I'd like to settle on a "best practice" workflow to document in my teaching.
For instance, do you:
1) Apply normalising/compression to tracks in the Multitrack view?
2) Mixdown and then apply normalising/compression?
3) Mixdown and fix low parts "by hand"?
4) Something else?
Kind regards

Oh, definitely that... In a nice, idealised student setting you can spend loads of time polishing everything after the event... but in the real world, stuff happens. For a start, if you have loads of different takes, all of different levels then what tends to happen is that each individual file is sort-of okay in itself, but not necessarily compared to any other file. So firstly you have to get all of these files to at least a vaguely consistent level, and that's where batch processing comes in. Assuming that the basic recording technique was okay, then batch normalize all of the individual files to about -1dB. This is way quicker than doing each one by hand, and it means that the next stage in the process you can generally whizz through a lot more easily without mucking about with levels all the time.
So now you can put stuff in the mix quickly and easily, and play it out directly if you are desperate - which at some stage you are going to be. If you want to make sure that the final output sounds a bit more homogeneous, then all you have to do is to put some multiband compression into the master stage, and hey presto, what comes out sounds pretty good. And when you have to redo things, or use different parts of what's there, it's dead easy to swap sections around from your files and still have instant, good-sounding output without doing anything else at all. And that's what most real-life radio production is about - good results fast, because the editorial production team won't wait.
So the basic rule is to get all your source material normalized first - and if anything else about it needs fixing, do that first too. And do as much of this stuff in batches as possible. One of the main reasons that Audition is used the world over for radio is because you can achieve a heck of a lot quickly in batch mode, and I'd say that any radio course that doesn't teach students what the real advantages of this method of working are isn't exactly doing their future employers much of a service at all.

  • Issue in N level workflow of shopping cart

    Hi all,
    SRM5.0 and ECC5, using ECS scenario
    We are using the N level workflow ( SC approval workflow and not item level workflow) with the BADI for determining the approvers of the shopping cart.
    The following are issues faced during rejection:
    1. When the 1st approver rejects some of the line items and approves others, The SC is sent back to the requester or. the requester accepts the changes, the SC instead of going to the next level of approvers gets approved.
          I have debugged and found that the actual index is set to 2 and the next level of approvers are determined correctly in the BADI, once it is out of the BADI, something happens and the SC is approved and it doesn't go for approval.
    2. When the 1st approver approves all the line items and the 2nd approver does a partial rejection, the SC is sent back to the requester and once the requester accepts the changes, the workflow restarts and the approvers are redetermined again.
    For the 2nd issue, if its a standard process, Can onyone provide me with a document or a OSS note which can be used for substantiating it. Does this behavior correspond to the back and forth process of N level workflow?
    Thanks and Regards
    Kishan

    Hi Munna,
    The code just determines the approvers for each level, this works fine when I debug but it changes after the control comes out of the N level BADI.
    Is there any other check which I need to do?

  • Document Level Workflow

  • How dynamically get an agent f a level-by-level workflow after PO changed

    Hi  all:
         I'm trying to create a level-by-level workflow after PO  changed, but how dynamically get an agent and how assign it to
    task dynamically?
        Thank you very much!!!

    Hi Sony,
    There are diffrent ways to get agent level by level....it depends from where you are getting the agents.
    1>Suppose you have 2 level PO worklfow and my agents are stored in some custom table:-
        level1 -- agent1
        level2 --agent2
    2> You can create two attributes in your BO i;e zgent1& zagent2.
    3> Inside the attributes zagent1 u will get the actual agents from custom table by putting code
       i.e select agent1 into zagent1 from zcus_tab where level = 1.
    4> Inside the attributes zagent1 u will get the actual agents from custom table by putting code
       i.e select agent1 into zagent1 from zcus_tab where level = 2.
    5> Now generate the BO...and test it ..u will se the user id of agents in the attributes populated.
    6> Now bind these both attributes to workflow container.
    7> Use attribute ZAGENT1 for level 1 approval task in worlfow.
    8> Use attribute ZAGENT2 for level 2 approval task in worlfow.
    The values will comes dynamically from custom table...which u will maintain.

  • Problems in n level workflow

    Hello,
    I know of the following problems in normal functionalties of N level workflow. Could you please let me know if you have faced anything different than this ? This is needed in the design and estimation stage of the workflow.
    1.     The ‘add approver’ functionality does not work
    2.     The BADI of approver determination is NOT called after every approval
    3.1     The rejected items get carried forward.
    In the shopping cart approval, the creator receives a work item to accept the changes (in authorization level 1 and higher, the creator has the option to change the shopping cart). However, if you choose 'Accept changes', the system passes on the shopping cart without deleting the rejected item(sapnote744273)
    3.2     The restart of workflow on rejection functionality provided in sap notes does not work
    thanks

  • Is N level workflow in SRM suitable for BRF rather than the two step approv

    Could anybody give some information about N level workflow in SRM abt whether it is more suitable for BRF (business rule framework) for agent determination rather than the two step approval workflow ?

    Hi Rita,
    BRF is process level configuration.  You will have to define a schema and it will be tied to a Business object (say BUS2121).  Schema consists different process steps.  Each process step can be tied to a work flow (Task id).  So, it doesn't matter whether 2 step or N step WF in BRF for the process step.  Agent determination will happen regardless.

  • N level workflow. item level approval

    Hello,
    How does item level approval work in N level workflow ?
    1) Suppose the shopping cart has 3 items then does the workflow proceed only after all the three approvers approve their items ?
    2) Does the approval workitem stay in the approvers inbox will the time all are approved ? and if yes does the approved workitem appears differently ?
    3) Does the approver see only his item or all other items too? if he does then are the other items greyed out?
    4) What happens if or more of the approvers changes the contents of the item or rejects the item? Does the entire shopping cart again goes to the requestor and what happens to the other approver workitems ?
    5) Is it possible to have shopping cart level approval workflows as well for N level workflow ?
    Where can I find this information in sap help?

  • ESS leave request 2 level workflow??

    Hi friends,
    Does anyone know how to create a 2 level workflow in ESS leave request?? im not able to find any solution for this.
    looking forward for your reply...
    thanks in advance
    sudhir

    Hi Sudhir,
    You dont have to create a new status for such scenarios. The Java WD Leave Application lists all the Leave Requests that are in SENT status. So after the first approval is done, the status is set to APPROVED in case if it is approved. Now, we have to reset it to the status SENT if you have one more level of approval.
    This can be achieved in 2 ways.
    1) Changing your Standard Class's coding as suggested by SAP in the above thread.
    2) You create one custom BOR with one method - RESETSTATUS - Which resets the status of the Leave Request back to <b>SENT</b>. You can get the required coding from <i>APPROVE</i> method of the above mentioned class.
    I followed the second method.
    I hope this should clear our problem.

  • Issue in Process Level Workflow

    Dear SRM Workflow Experts,
    I have following issue for workflow in SAP SRM 7.0
    We have configured item level shopping cart approval workflow using process level configuration. Total four process Levels are configured for Audit/Deman Challenge/Tax and Financial approval.
    Process Level Config Details
    Level.  Apr.Type  Evval.Id                              Description                               Resp.Resover                            Decision Type
    100     Approval  ZEV_SC_DMCH_LEVEL1   Demand Challenge Workflow  ZRR_DEMAND_CHALLENGE       4
    200     Approval  ZEV_SC_AUDT_LEVEL1   Audit Approval Workflow        ZRR_AUDIT                           4
    300     Approval  ZEV_SC_ITAX_LEVEL1    Tax Approval Workflow           ZRR_TAX                           4
    400     Approval  ZEV_SC_LEVEL3              Financial approval                    ZRR_COSTCENTER_APPROVE      4
    We have a issue for the shopping cart with multiple items, once process level is applicable for first item it becomes mandatory for another items even though BRF expression rule for process level is not valid. It looks like my BRF event is executing only once for Shopping Cart and it's not getting trigerred for each line item.
    Please suggest how I can resolve this issue.
    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Thanks for quick response,
    Actually I am using GET_AREA_TO_ITEM_MAP method in the /SAPSRM/BD_WF_RESP_RESOLDER BADI.
    I am not creating the Responsibility Area for the items for which Approver not needed.
    Please refer following code, please note AREA_ID field will be empty for the items for which approver not needed. For these items workflow is getting triggered with error "Strategy ZRR_AUDIT' did not determine any approver.
      LOOP AT lt_item_to_area_map REFERENCE INTO lr_item_to_area_map.
        AT NEW area_id.
        For each area id a new responsibility area is created, this instance can
        later be retrieved  in
        method GET_APPROVERS_BY_AREA_GUID to return the list of responsible
        agents
          IF not lr_item_to_area_map->area_id is initial.
            lo_area = /sapsrm/cl_wf_area=>/sapsrm/if_wf_area~create_instance(
              iv_area_type         = /sapsrm/if_wf_process_c=>GC_AREA_TYPE_ADHOC
              iv_leading_object_id = lr_item_to_area_map->area_id
            ls_area_to_item_map-area_guid = lo_area->get_guid( ).
          ELSE.
            ls_area_to_item_map-area_guid = /sapsrm/if_wf_process_c=>gc_nil_guid.
          ENDIF.
        ENDAT.
        IF NOT ls_area_to_item_map-area_guid EQ /sapsrm/if_wf_process_c=>gc_nil_guid.
            ls_area_to_item_map-item_guid = lr_item_to_area_map->item_guid.
            APPEND ls_area_to_item_map TO rt_item_to_area_map.
        ENDIF.

  • ESS leave request two-level workflow

    Hi All,
    We have a requirement for a two-level ESS leave workflow and need to know what would be the approach which can be taken to modify the standard 12300111 workflow.
    The status should be as follows
    STATUS                                                STATUS                                                  STATUS
    (SENT)                      Approves              (PENDING)                 Approves                (APPROVED)
    First Level approver -
    >   Second level approver -
    >
    As we can see, we need to add a new status namely, PENDING to the backend PTREQ tables. Can anyone please provide some kind of leads/info on this.
    Thanks and Regards
    Reshma

    Hi,
    You can take a copy of that standard workflow 12300111 and build your logic accordingly.and give that workflow number in SPRO settings.

  • Item level Workflow Hold..

    Hi,
       i am working an item-level SC workflow
    ( WS14500015 ). i would like to know is there any way to hold the last step which in workflow template is using for create follow on document in backend system, until i will recieve some text data from thrid party system and needs to be restarting again the particular step which i hold after i recieved the text data from third party system.
    give some hints to fix.
    regards,
    john.

    Hello,
    No change is needed in WS14500015.
    WS10400051 is the final processing sub-workflow used by all standard workflows in SRM. Navigate through workflow builder, you'll find it is called in the line item app workflow: it's the final proccessing. Depending on the approval status of the SC, it updates its status and follow on document are created.
    To work safely, first generate a new version for this workflow (WS10400051) before any change.
    Idea is to extend bus2121: create a subobject and activate delegation, define a new event on sub object.
    In wf definition, insert a event waiting step linked to the SC number and new event just before the task "set release status".
    I guess that receiving the third party text is made in specific. Use the function module swe_event_create to genrate the new event of object bus2121 for the concerned shopping cart.
    when this event will be generated, the final processing workflow will continue.
    Hope it helps,
    Pierre
