Broadcast quality media converter.. Any suggestions?
I'm in the market for a fw media conveter that can handle SDI, Analog Component, composite, and S-Video as well as balanced audio, genlock, and RS422 control. My main editing system is FCP on a G4 editing 8-bit uncompressed, but I'm looking to turn a couple of powerbooks into 8-bit uncompressed with a g-raid as well.
I've heard many many great things about the AJA IO, and its definitely one that I'm considering, but are there others that can do everything that the AJA can do and still work flawlessly with FCP?
I'm looking to also to be able to do After Effects previews over firewire to an NTSC monitor.
Any one have any suggestions?

The AJA is the ONLY one that will connect to the Powerbooks. All the others require that you install cards into PCI or PCIe slots.
You can't go wrong with the AJA. And you buy one and it works for ALL the machines you have.

You will not be able to manage any iDevices without iTunes though.
AIMP is a nice little program and the mediaplayer I used for the many years before I bought an Apple device, and I've heard MediaMonkey is as well.

MacBook Pro is corrupting media cards - any suggestions on how to fix this?
Memory cards become corrupted when inserted into the card reader slot. When I put the card back in the camera, the camera malfunctions (Error 99 message). I have had the camera cleaned and sent in for repairs, but there in nothing wrong with it. New media cards work until they are inserted into the Mac. Now the Mac is telling me some file formats can't be read, but the format has not changed from previous images it reads off the same card, taken during the same sessions. Images I was able to see on the camera become unreadable after trying to download in the Mac. The Mac is messing up the cards -- corrupting them, so they aren't usable in the camera anymore. I have been told to try using a media card reader, but that is just a band-aid fix. Does anyone know of a real fix that could remedy this problem?
Make sure that you haven't disable background images.

A friend gave me a a number of playlists in a wma format. Can't import into itunes library or convert. Any suggestions?

Flip4mac - need the intermediate payware version which lets you convert. Use with Quicktime player.Flip4Mac - http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.asp?prodid=flip4mac wmv - The free version will let Quicktime play but not convert Windows Media files.
After installation a new Flip4Mac pane will appear in System Preferences. Make sure you set the boxes to ensure that it will play WMV files in Quicktime. -
Recently bought pro retina 15" with a super drive. But when I played a dvd the quality wasn't very good, any suggestions?
There is a good chance that the DVD is OK and the machine is OK since a DVD's resolution is set for a television and not for a computer with a resolution 4 times that of the tele (at least).
What are you using to play DVD?
What is the DVD and what does it say on the cover about resolution or aspect ratio?
Just because you have a retina Mac doesn't mean you will get an excellent picture from low resolution media, if you are using DVD player use the menu option for 'Actual Size' this will play it at the resolution for the DVD, any larger then it will start to pixelate. -
Using Lightroom 4 w/ Windows 7. Recently started shooting w/ Sony camera that shoots .arw files. Lightroom cannot read the files. Loaded Adobe converter program onto the computer and this program cannot read the files either. Any suggestions?

Where does this folder go?

Depends on your model TV. Read your TV user manual. The newer models have "how to hookup" instructions for computer & games.

I could not find any app that would do this. There are different types of message apps but nothing that I could find to do what I am looking for. For a specific contact I would like the message to have a notification that will not go away until I acknowledge it. Just like you would do if it was a pager.

I can't burn a cd of my own created music. I either get the error 4261, or after "Checking media" the process stops and nothing further happens. Have tried different burn speeds and cds. Have re-installed iTunes.Any suggestions please?
wm0203Sounds like the CD drive died. Luckily they cost next to nothing to replace. Or get an external LaCie instead. I have a dual G4 1.25 and the CD drive was always so anemic I use a LaCie Porsche with it.

I just purchased a new mac mini and would like to use my old dell monitor. I tried a HD to VGA adapter converter,it plugs in, but nothing shows on the monitor. Any suggestions?
What do you mean by "HD to VGA adapter converter"?
Do you mean have an HDMI to VGA adapter connected the the Mini's HDMI port?
Or maybe you plugged n the the included HDMI to DVI adapter and then connected a DVI to DVI adapter?
In either case that will not work since VGA is analog and the Mini's HDMI port is digital only.
You need to purchase a mini displayport to VGA adapter. It plugs into the Mini's Thunderbolt port.

When I try to print an jpeg or png from Photoshop all it does is convert the image to a PDF & plop it on my desktop- it won't print the image. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?
Yes, the printer is on, it’s selected in Printer Set-Up & I’ve never had this problem before. It’s definitely a Photoshop issue as every other type of file prints fine. I’ve uninstalled Pshop & am now reinstalling. Hope that will do the trick.

I have Adobe Reader XI with the package that allows me to send pdfs and convert pdfs to Word. When I open a pdf and try to search the search shows no matches even though the word I am searching for is in the document. Any suggestions how to search?

If I may impose on your generosity one more time, if I understand you correctly if I create a document on Word or WordPerfect, print it and scan it to create a pdf, the search function will not work. But, if I create the pdf document in Word the search function will work. Unfortunately, I am not sure how I create a pdf document in Word other than by printing it and scanning it. Could you please explain.

Hi Jenna,
The error your getting suggests a file path problem.
How are you embedding the movie in PP and where is the movie file located relative to the PP file? Are you getting this error within PP when the slide containing the embedded video is displayed?
If you embed a movie and then move it or change its name then PP will generate this error.

macfriedchikkin's reply would make sense to you if you were trying to open a camera, but if you are trying to view streming media from a web site that is a different story. It helps to be very specific about what you are tyring to do on these forums.
I belive you would go into Firefox Preferences menu and tell it to use VLC as the application to play WMV files. I'm still running Tiger, however, so I can't tell you if it the latest version works wel that way. The Tiger version doesn't seem to, but a lot may have changed since then. (I'm only just getting around to installing Leopard next week now that there are too may apps I can't run on Tiger. ) Perhaps someone else on this forum can better help you set up the player in your browser.
Or you can cut out the middleman and give VLC the direct video URL:
Choose Open File from the File menu and paste in the URL of the video, say,

Your media should play this way. Dont forget to save the playlist for later.
I'l keep investigating on my end, and yes, I'm also encouraging certain people who are streaming windows media in to switching to a different format
