Broadcast/SD Titles and Text: Workflow

I'm curious what, when doing Broadcast Titles and Text, is your workflow.
Do you exclusively make slates in Illustrator etc.? Do they look significantly better and function better for Broadcast product than making same in LIveType or Motion. Is there a big quality advantage in Vector based Titles/Text
Do you make any of your Titles/Text in LiveType or Motion.
Is there another workflow for high quality Titles/Text you would recommend?

I've used both LiveType and Motion for titling some very large QuickTime files (1440 x 900 @ 25fps) and the quality is perfect. As high a quality as you could ask for.
I can understand the rationale for saying that Illustrator would give better results that PhotoShop (vector vs. raster), but if you're working with the native LiveType file in FCP you're still in a vector environment (at least I think so - anyone care to comment?).
It's the same argument for using vector-based files rather than pixel based ones for DTP applications that are going to be printed by a commercial printer: The printer's RIP rasterises the file just once at the correct imaging resolution.
To my mind, a vector is a vector: I can't see how Illustrator can give you 'better' vectors than LiveType or Motion - if you're using FCP to 'RIP' either of the original files to pixels, that is. Perhaps using a 3rd party rendering engine would give you better quality, in the same way that different PostScript RIPs give better quality than others.
Maybe that's the reason why some people use Illustrator - as the non-FCP RIP can't handle native LiveType/Motion files?

    We are using OracleBI Discoverer Version 10.1.2.55.26
    We have reports that displays Report title containing the following
    - Report Title
    - Runt Date and Time
    - Page No
    And text area which displays 'Last Page'
    Following properties are set at the worksheet level using page setup
    Report Title --> 'Print on every Page'
    Text Area --> 'Print on last page'
    The report when exported to PDF using Discoverer plus works fine and displays report title and text area as defeined.
    But when we try to export the same report to pdf from Discoverer viewer, it displays
    - Report title on first page only.
    - text area on all pages
    All our users accesses report using discoverer viewer so we cannot open discoverer plus to them.
    Is there a solution which will enable us to export the report in pdf using discoverer viewer and displays the same output as discoverer plus.

    Well, if typographic objects are colour managed, the colour appearance is dependent on the source ICC profile that describes the colourants in the typographic objects and the destination ICC profile that describes the colours the display is able to form and the RBC colourant combinations that will form those colours.
    In general, typographic objects should have special treatment, since the expectation is not that typographic objects should be colour managed, but that typographic objects should simple be set to the maximum density of dark. On a display, that is R=0 G=0 B=0 and on a seperations device (a lithographic press) that is C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100.
    If for some reason typographic objects are colour managed, and if the ICC profiles for the displays are off by half a mile or more in relation to the actual state of the display system, then the colours will not be the same. On the other hand, if those displays are calibrated and characterized, then the colourants will be converted to form the same colours on the displays.

    What is this Premiere Elements Essentials 13? I know the program only as Adobe Premiere Elements 13 for Windows or Adobe Premiere Elements 13 for Mac. On what computer operating system is it running and is it a pre-installed program from the computer manufacturer?

    In Adobe Premiere Elements 13 Windows (assumed Mac also), there should be no problem in creating a text title in the Quick workspace and saving a particular text style and setting that created text style to the default. Are you OK with doing that in the Expert workspace if not the Quick workspace?

  • APE4  Title and Text Animation

    I am trying to animate some multi line titles.  I found that the animation, Scalein, only works on a single line of text. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong.  The animation worked on a singel line but not on a multi line title.

    For working with multiple lines of text and animation, you can create several Titles, each with one line of text. These would be stacked above any footage on higher Video Tracks (VT's). Each single line can then be animated with the same, or different Effects.
    Depending on what one needs and wants, another way would be to do the Title with a block (multiple lines) of text, and then Keyframe, say Motion>Position for that Title. An example would be to have the Title begin off-screen and then "move" into the scene from the right, with Moton>Position Keyframes, hold for a period of time, then move out of the screen left, again with Motion>Position Keyframes. You will probably have to grab the right side of the Title and drag it to get the desired Duration.

  • UITableView each cell has image, title and text

    Hi, I have a UITableView and right now each cell has an image and a text. I would like to change the layout a little bit.
    For each cell, on the left you have an image. On the right, the top portion has Title which is in large fonts and bottom portion has text which is in smaller fonts. Does UITableView already support it or I have to write my code to customize it?

    You need to configure a custom cell, either in code or in IB using a subclass of UITableViewCell. There are excellent, well explained examples of both techniques in Chapter 8 of Mark & LaMarche (and based on many of your questions, I think a few hours with that book would save you months of looking for free sample code). However there's also a good discussion with sample code in the +Table View Programming Guide for iPhone OS+ under Customizing Cells.

  • Blurry Titles and text on HD 6.0!!!

    hello everyone, I just got my new 12' powerbook and its my first mac ever... and I LOVE IT!!! I have no idea why I have been using pc all my life, macs are so much better!
    anyways, onto the PROBLEM... I have the new ilife '06 and I have installed imovie HD 6 but when I try to add a title onto black (and I havent tried on clips) it turns out very fuzzy and very unprofesional... when I preview it, it looks great, but not when I add it to my timeline... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

    It's not a problem, it's an intention. You would need a quad g5 top of the line to run the video in full resolution in real time! Too much data, so they arteficially reduced the resolution in iMovie for us to be able to happily edit our movies on slower machines. Your final DVDs will look just fine, believe me, they simply will. Same with other codecs in .mov files for QT playback. If you choose any codec and the highest possible quality, you will get almost sharp titles. But not in iMovie itself. I personally have set up the lowest preview quality in iMovie, because I prefer application speed ahead of viewing quality. I rather look at fuzzy than jerky subtitles. But again, everyone has different opinion. The end product is what counts anyway, right?

    If the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
    If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup.

  • Titles- quick text display and long black spot

    I am adding titles with text over black. I can't lengthen the time the title text stays in view without lengthening the total title time so that there's a long black space at the end. I don't see anything in the help section to address this. I'm working in "converge to center" effects.
    Suggestions? I've done a dozen or so iMovies and love the tool---but for slower readers, this is a problem.

    Hi David - I assume you have the problem that your chosen title style allows only 2 lines before repeating the convergence with the next two lines, and the pauses are not long enough for your purpose.
    The solution is to extend the length of the pause - but this has to be done with a work-around. You can do it by creating a still-frame of the paused part of the title, but the quality is not quite as good as the original.
    There is a better way. This is what I did with your particular title style to extend the pause.
    1. Drag the title clip to the desktop. this creates a .dv QuickTime file.
    2. Open this file in Quicktime, move the playhead to the paused text, and go Edit>Trim to Selection.
    3. Go Command>C (Copy) and then Command V (Paste) and continue to hold down those two keys until a suitable duration has been created - maybe 5 seconds.
    4. Save As a self-contained movie, and drag that file back into the iMovie project, and place it in the appropriate position. [You will need to split the original clip at the pause in order to position it].
    This has created a 5 second-long clip of the paused text which should be almost indistinguishable in quality from the original. Repeat the process for other pauses where needed.
    It is much faster to do than to explain!!

  • Can I Enlarge Title and Artist Text when Playing Music?

    Hello.  This question pertains to the 5th generation 32 GB iPod Touch.
    When playing music, I'd like to know if I can enlarge the text that displays the title and artist of the track now playing. 
    (I listen to my iPod in bed, but I wear contacts, and take them out at night.  I am unable to read the text clearly.)
    If there is a way to enlarge the text, what is the procedure?  Is a separate app required, or can I do it some other way?

    After doing more research and playing with the iPod, I figured out what to do.  There's a trick to it.
    You double-tap the screen with three fingers.  On the second tap, you spread your three fingers out.  That enlarges the screen to almost any size you want.  Then, you use your three fingers to move the screen around.  The Zoom feature will memorize the customization, and will remain that size unless or until you change it.
    It's just a little bit tricky, but that's how I got it to do what I want.  Jd

  • Premiere Elements 11 Titles - Can text kearning and leading be adjusted?

    Just migrated to Premiere Elements 11 (from PE 10) and love the new interface and snappy performance.  However, when making simple titles (using Text menu, New Text option) I can't find a way to adjust text leading (space between lines) and kearning (space between letters).  In PE 10 these were available as explicit "buttons".  I'm sure that the developers didn't drop this feature.  Does anyone know how to find it?

    This is an older thread going back to May 2013 so I am not sure how soon Susan Verner will see your question on what she said was her workaround for this text matter.
    But, when she says "...(this is also a workaround for text animation on multi-line titles....", then she must be talking about what I described in my blog post under the header of
    "Applying Text Animation to 2 or more lines of text per Title (in this example 3 lines)"
    With this technique and the example that I wrote about, there were 3 lines of text all within the same Title file, not 3 lines of text each with its own Title file.

  • Questions about editing video clips, images and text

    I'm using the Expert mode and I'm having trouble with figuring out how to do certain things.
    1. I'm superimposing a picture of a scoreboard on my video and then I superimpose a text object on top of that so I can update the scores throughout the video.  I've placed on instance of the text object on my "Video 3" and now I want to change the score.  So I created another instance on the same "Video 3" timeline.  Now I want to close the gap between the two instances.  I would expect to be able to click on the gap in between and delete it but nothing happens.  I would also expect to be able to double click on the instance to access the specific start and end times that I see when I hover over it.  But again nothing happens.  So I've been magnifying the timeline so I can manually drag the two instances together.  Is there an easier and more precise way to close the gap?
    2. Is there an easier way to periodically change a text object without creating a bunch of instances?  My "project assets" folder is getting filled up quickly because the score is constantly getting updated and I keep creating a new instance for each score change.
    3. Is there a way to permanently combine two seperate video clips?  I've used the "group" option but there is still a divider that reminds me that the two were seperate.  I'd like to be able to combine the two and for it to look as if it was always just one large clip.
    4. When I use the scissors to cut a section out of the middle of a clip, the blue marker that shows where I am currently in the video stays in place.  So each time I cut out a section, I have to manually drag the blue marker over to the new beginning that was at the end of all the stuff I just cut.  Is there a preference to have the blue marker stay with you when you edit instead of it suddenly being far ahead of you in the editing process?

    Other than doing Duplicates of your Title, and editing those, as needed, the only other option would be to create the Titles in another program, such as Photoshop, then Save those as PSD's, to be Imported into PrE. The one downside of doing that, is that to edit those PSD "titles" is to Open them in Photoshop - the PrE Titler will not open them for the additional editing.
    PrE does not have as much power to organize Assets, such as Titles, as does Premiere Pro, with both Bins and Folders (later versions). I always create a Bin, for my Titles, or even several Bins, for different types of Titles in the Project.
    Maybe others will have a workflow, that I have not considered, so we both might learn something.
