Broadcaster doesn't see firewire device

Hi,
I just updated a rarely used server from 10.3.4 to 1.3.9. Prior to the update, we would occasionally use the server for QTSS using Broadcaster and a firewire input video signal. It worked nicely.
After the upgrade, Broadcaster can't see the firewire device. I have 10.4.5 (non-server) installed on another HD in the same box (which is what it is booted with most of the time) and I can switch to that OS and Broadcaster can see the device just fine. That means my port works.
The box worked just fine prior to the 10.3.9 upgrade, so the question is, is there a setting file somewhere that turning firewire off, or preventing Broadcaster from seeing it?
When we switch to this box for streaming, it's as a backup, but using server and QTSS works better than using Darwin Streaming Server and Broadcaster for some reason. This is why we need this fixed.
Ideas?
Thanks,
Keith

Are you using Broadcaster (as part of QTSS) or QuickTime Broadcaster (the separate application)?
To be safe, you may want to do the encoding portion of the webcast on a separate workstation anyway which will feed the QTSS server. Then you can setup a relay to your backup server and use that as a "backup" or for load balancing or for whatever.
I am going to run a test on one of my machines to see if I have a similar problem.... I'm intrigued.....

  • Itunes doesn't see my devices

I've recently plugged (USB cable) my ipod and my iphone in to the mac book pro that they are always plugged into for syncing and backing up via iTunes. However, now iTunes doesn't see these devices, nor any other devices I plug in.
    Anyone had this problem?

  • FCP 5.1.4 doesn't see Firewire after installing OS 10.4.10 update

I recently installed the OS X v. 10.4.10 updater via Software update to both my Intel-based MacPro and PowerPC G5. Since doing that update, I have encountered a number of problems that I have seemingly been able to rectify by doing an Archive and Reinstall of the OS back to the original version that shipped with the computer(s): OS X 10.4.8 and Quicktime 7.1.3
However, I cannot get any device to connect to either machine via FireWire 400 now. My LaCie external hard drive connects fine via FireWire 800 on the G5. However it, nor several different Sony DV decks, Sony DV cameras, a JVC HDV deck will connect for capturing in FinalCutPro. ALL of these devices were connecting fine last week before all of this happened with the OS and Quicktime updates.
I have spent the past two days reading forums and articles and see that many people have experienced problems with FireWire audio - but anyone else run into this?
I tried downloading and installing the FireWireSDK23 Developer tool, as recommended to rectify the FireWire Audio problem, but I still can't get decks or cameras to show up in FCP.
I've seen various posts about zapping PRAM and resetting Open Firmware...not anything I've done before and sounds a little scary.
    Have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

With your firewire drives plugged in and on and a deck plugged in and on, boot you system from a cold start.
Once it's up and running, open up SYSTEM PROFILER>Hardware>Firewire
Do all the drives and the deck show up?
    - If not, turn off the system and unplug the power cable and the firewire cable from the computer for at least 15 minutes (this re-sets the firewire bus). Go have one of your favorite cold beverages. After the computer has sat quietly and you've enjoyed your drink, plug everything back in, boot it up and look at the System Profiler again. If everything shows up, go on to the next step. If devices do not appear, you probably need to reset your PRAM and/or PMU.
    - If all the devices show up in Profiler, try to capture a short bit with iMovie.
    - if it doesn't work, come back here and we'll start over.
    - if it works, try the Quicktime 'delete receipts and reinstall' process (search this forum). You most likely have a bunged installation of QT.
    good luck.

  • LabView doesn't see USB device

    Hallo,
I have LabView 8.5 installed and two LogicBoxes (NIMbox NDL8 and NAD4) via USB connected. By typing in the proper USB-ID of NIMbox NDL8 in the
    VISA everything
just worked fine. Then I realized this doesn't work for the other modul, so I tried switched cables and reinstalled the USB driver.
    The current situation:
Windows XP detects the USB devices without any problem - always has. However, suddenly I can't connect in LabView with them by typing
in the USB-ID. The whole time the modules never showed up in MAX, but since they aren't NI instruments I think that was to expect anyway.
I just have no idea why it worked first partly and now it doesn't work at all.
Even though my problem description is kind of vague - I'm new to LabView.
I would really appriciate advice, which things I should check in order to get the USB working again.
    Thanks!

  • Blackberry Protect doesn't "see" my device

    Hello,
I received today my new Torch 9860, after my former one had been stolen. Everything works fine except that, after installing BB Protect from AppWorld and connecting onto the website to test it, my terminal doesn't appear there. I tried to reinstall it but same problem. I have also a Playbook which is correctly connected to the terminal and account.
Did I miss or forget something ? Is there a way to "declare" the terminal on the website ?
    Thanks for your answers

  • Ipod has permanent white screen. I have tried a reset to no avail. Itunes doesn't 'see' the device and hence I am unable to restore. Any suggestions?

MY IPOD Touch has a permanent white screen. I am unable to switch it off or reset and it is not recognised in i-tunes thus preventing me from performing a 'restore'
    Any suggestions?

Try letting the battery fully drain.  After charging for an hour, try the reset and connecting to the computer again andtry to restore.  If the screen is blank (not white) see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow a restore. For recovery mode:

  • Apple Configurator doesn't see my device

Okay so when I plug my ipad into my imac I see via iTunes, which is all good and well. I just downloaded Apple Configurator this week and thought since we had two ipads at the school I should try this out in case we decide to go to a 1-to-1 environment with these. The first one I plugged in was straight out of the apple box brand new and it worked great. I played around with some settings and checked it out to a teacher. The second one had been in the hands of a teacher for a couple of weeks. I plugged it into the imac and bam it pops right up in iTunes. I click Apple Configurator and bam, it is lost in iTunes and nothing shows up in Apple Configurator! I did an Erase All Content and Settings, and still nothing. If I can keep Apple Configurator out of the picture the iMac will see it just fine, but as soon as I start AC it completely disappears, it doesnt' show up in Finder now!
If anybody has any fixes for this I would love to hear them.
    Thanks

ok, never got the Apple TV to work wirelessly, but ended up moving an AP Express to the TV and plugging in the ATV to the e-net port of the express. not really the way I wanted it to work, but it does.

  • HT5868 My iPhone and iPad repeatedly ask to trust my computer and when I do or don't iTunes doesn't see my devices.

Need help with this one.  I tried repairing iTunes on my computer and then uninstalling and reinstalling it, neither work.  I did recently put a registry cleaner on my computer, could this be the problem?

Not sure what computer operating system you are using, since you do not indicate that information in your post. With that in mind, here are the support documents for both regarding phone not recognized in iTunes.
OS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X

  • TS1363 My iPhone 5S will backup to both my PC and cloud, it says it's synching, but new music I've put in to iTunes doesn't transfer over. I ran diagnostics and it says it doesn't see the device. Never had a problem before...

My iPhone 5s will backup to both my PC and cloud, it then says it's syncing, but new music that I put in to iTunes doesn't transfer over to the phone.

It depends on the iPod shuffle model...  Assuming your shuffle is the 4th gen (or 3rd gen) model, do you use automatic syncing or the manual method (drag and drop song on iPod in iTunes)?
This document shows the four shuffle models, and provides general info about loading content on shuffles

  • No laughing...  I have a Canon ZR 300 camcorder.  I can not see it when connected via firewire in system profile and iMovie doesn't see it either.  Any suggestions?

I have an old Canon ZR 300 camcorder that I'm trying to connect to my 17" MBP via 9 pin firewire (its a 4 pin to 9 pin cable as the MBP doesn't have a 4 pin firewire - figured it was backwards compatible).  Anyhow, iMovie 09 doesn't see the camcorder.  I checked under System Profile and then under Firewire and it doesn't see it either.  In fact I get some red letters about not seeing firewire devices.  I'm running Lion.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Should using mixed wifi and ethernet clients on a timecapsule work?  if so is it a feature I can use out of the box so to speak?
    Thanks
No a TC cannot do what you want.. it is now in dumb stupid wireless join mode.. and it turns off the ethernet ports.. in case you want to use the TC as a wireless bridge to multiple clients which is plainly wrong.. (only airport express is allowed to do this since it has only one ethernet port).
Welcome to Apple. (The plainly wrong above is a figment of Apple imagination.. of strict network protocols.. but unhelpful for a home device. maybe also to encourage sales of expresses.)

  • 10.4.6 -- no firewire devices show-up

I upgraded to 10.4.6 on Sunday and everything was fine until this morning. Now, no firewire devices will appear (I have an iSight and two external drives).
    Please, please, please help!!!
    Thank you.

From MacFixIt, regarding inability to see FireWire devices after upgrading to 10.4.6:
"We should note that various FireWire issues can be caused by outdated firmware. Run Software Update and make sure there are no firmware updates available for your Mac.
Also, as with previous instances of this issue, some users have reported success by performing a hardware reset that involves holding down the power key for 10 seconds or so while the system is off."
If those suggestions fail, and you used Software Update to go to 10.4.6, you might try downloading the Mac OS X Combo Updater for PPC and applying it.

  • My Power Mac G5 doesn't see my Firewire connected devices..

Both my Firewire devices are not being recognized by my Power Mac G5. My captured material is on a Maxtor One Touch II Drive connected via FW 800 and my Sony Dsr 11 is connected via FW 400. Both stopped being recognized at the same time. If it was only one device I would guess it was FW cable causing the problem. Does anyone have any advice?

In addition to what Christina said...you could also try swapping the FW cables front/back. IIRC, our 'dead' G5 preferred certain FW devices to be connected to certain ports.
Also, when rebooting...go for the 'Guinness Solution'. Shut everything down, have a Guinness/beverage of choice/take a walk, (this allows the FW connection to 'reset'.
Then power on the deck first. Check System Profiler to confirm that the G5 'sees' that device, then FCP should see it as well.
Another option is to get an eSata or FW PCI card. Even though Macs have multiple FW ports, they're still running on the same buss. The PCI card provides another buss. If you go that route, research thoroughly to make sure you purchase the correct type for your model of G5.
    Hope that helps,
    K
EDIT...have you done any recent software updates? Your profile lists G5/FCP6/Leopard, which should be fine, but some QT updates can cause issues. Let us know exact version of QT you're running.

  • FireWire devices doesn't mount nor are recognized by OSX

A known issue but with several solucions posted but nothing seems to help me out...
Something is wrong with the FireWire of my Powerbook G4 667 MHz. External harddrives as soundcards as iPods as anything with a FireWire interface won't mount. However, it seems that the devices are getting electricity, Ipods charge for example. But doesn't appear on the desktop. Nor in the System Profiler. Disk Utility doesn't "see" the drives either. I have been trying with reseting the computer, the VRAM and the VPRAM. Also taken out the battery and left the computer alone for a while. No results. And of course, I have been searching the forums and diskussions like crazy but haven't found a solution.
Anyone who can give me some leads about what I can do next? A clue in this mystery is that I used a Pocketdrive to move files in between the Mac and a PC. I worked fine for 10 times or so, but then suddenly the Mac didn't mount it. First I thought that it was just that harddrive that had some problems (from the PC, I might haven't emptied the trashbin the last time I disconnected it from the PC) but then I realized that no FireWire deviced worked any longer.
    Thanks in advance

Hi, jorgengun. Try running the Apple Hardware Test CD that came with your Powerbook, and see whether it reports any problem with your FireWire controller or port. It's possible that your port has gone bad, in which case the timing was probably just coincidental — it's unlikely that anything that happened on the PC could have caused your Powerbook's port to be damaged.
If you don't have Apple Hardware Test, a TechTool Pro or TechTool Deluxe CD has similar hardware testing abilities. (TTD was supplied by Apple to the purchasers of AppleCare Extended Protection plans, and is not available otherwise as far as I know. TTP is a commercial product.)
If you don't have any of the above, and all of the devices that no longer work when connected to the port did indeed work in the past, take the Powerbook to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store, or to a local Apple dealership, and have the port tested.
A bad port would necessitate one of two things: a logic board replacement, or the purchase of a CardBus-slot Firewire card.

  • Can't see my Firewire devices

I have a iBook G4 with 10.5.01, I can no longer see my firewire devices. I have two external hard drives and a CD/DVD player/burner. I have fooled around with moving the cables and tryed it with only one hard drive - nothing - can't see a thing. This is something new. I recently updated Toast Titanium to 8.0.3. On the system preferences network page - it doesn't see the firewire devices and I have no idea what DHCP is. (It says Built-in Firewire is not connected. Does this mean I have a computer hardware problem?) Any suggestions?

Unless your on a network, that message is normal. Hooking up FW devices to your machine is local, not network. For your problem, see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88338 and http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20041221081432908
