Broadcasting "current song" over multiple computers?

Hey, I hope this is just a stupid question as it seems possible but I can't figure out how to do it; at our studio we have just connected an Airport express to our stereo and we are all able to connect successfully to the Airport and play through the stereo singularly (off of three different computers.) My question is if there is a way that I can view the current song on my computer that someone is streaming from their computer to the Airport. I've found posts about using an iphone as a remote control for an Airport so it seems like the Airport is obviously broadcasting that information out but I can't figure out how to receive it back on multiple computers/iTunes.
Any advice?
Thanks!

I have a similar problem. Wish I had an answer but am struggling with a similar problem. My situation is this: I have a Imac and a Macbook Pro. I have the same 4 accounts on both and I sync them through '.mac'. It works fairly well. My goal is to get one Itunes library accessible from the 2 computers and the 4 accounts per computer. I am also using Time Capsule/Machine as well. I currently keep the Itunes library on an external drive (not TCapsule). So, my problem is this:
1. How to update from multiple accounts accross the two machines?
2. How to access Itunes store from all of the accounts on machine 2?
I am now trying to set up individual Itunes libraries for each account on machine 1 and share to machine 2.
In any case, this is not pretty and needs to be reachitected to support a multiple user environmet.

  • Upload songs from multiple computers?

Has anyone figured out if there is a way to UPLOAD songs from multiple computers. Note, I don't want to sync. I want to be able to plug my iPhone in at my office and put mp3s which I buy at work onto the phone. This works on the iPod, but not the iPhone as far as I can tell.

I'm also having this issue and it seem to be a silly limitation to me. Using the same iTunes account, I was able to upload music and apps from my phone to my wife's computer. However, I can't put any of the music on her computer to my iPhone....strange that it works one way but not the other. Both computers authorized using the same iTunes account. Never thought that it would be an issue, since I'm able to do this with my various iPods.

  • Burning songs from multiple computers

i use my ipod on multiple computers when i connect my ipod to my motherboard computer theres a link at the top of my itunes which allows me to burn all of my purchased music onto a CD however when i connect my ipod to the other computer there is no link at the top of itunes which says 'burn disc' therefore it does not let me burn any of my purchased music onto a CD. How do i get itunes to burn my purchased music on the other computer??? as my motherboard computer does not recognise when i put CDs in so i need to burn the purchased songs onto CD from the other computer please help thanx xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Connecting the iPod has nothing to do with burning a CD.
You cannot burn songs off the iPod. They must be in the library.
Create a new playlist and put the purchased music on it.
Select the playlist and click Burn at the top right of iTunes.

Not sure what this means. All computers have a motherboard.
Do you mean your desktop computer?

  • Sharing (synchronizing) a single iTunes library over multiple computers

Okay, i've been looking all over for a simple answer to this problem for a while and haven't found a solution that doesn't involve paying for third-party software or a lot of seemingly unnecessary hassle. Here's my situation:
I have an older 12" PowerBook G4 and a brand new MacBook Pro. I also have a Time Capsule and a 30 gig iPod, but i'm not sure whether they will be helpful or not for my situation. When i got my MacBook Pro, i let Leopard transfer all my info, so now both computers have the same login information, music library, iPhoto library, etc... But not for long, naturally. I want to use my MBP at home primarily and will spend most of my time on it, but i will also frequently be out and will be taking my PowerBook along as it is both more portable and less of a concern if something happens to it. What i want to do is to set things up so that my iTunes library (including playlists, ratings, and other metadata) is kept synchronized across both computers (perhaps via the Time Capsule?) and that any changes made on either mac will at least eventually be mirrored on the other without causing duplicates or loss of any files. I don't need to keep separate versions or sizes of iTunes libraries either; the hard drives are each large enough to hold the entire thing.
On a side note, the iPod only needs to be able to sync from the MBP, i think, though it would be nice to have the option to sync from either. Sadly, it’s not large enough to hold the whole library, so i can’t use that to go back and forth or anything.
Also, i wouldn’t mind if the library were only stored on the TC and the PB, since the MBP should be able to access the TC 99% of the time, but in that case the PB would have to compare its own library and metadata to that of the TC, while i’m not sure how the MBP would store its iTunes database on the TC and not its own drive. I imagine that, with the current implementation of iTunes at least, it would have to be all on the MBP and the PB, with the TC version merely a backup. In most cases, i should be able to reach both my TC and my MBP from the road over the internet, but i still want to have the library on the PB hard drive for when i don’t have a connection.
I wouldn’t mind a “master, slave” type setup either, with the MBP being the master, since with the only working optical drive and a faster connection, it will be doing most of my importing- but it’s important that the playlists and everything are the same and it sure would be nice if i didn’t have to remember not to make any changes from the PB. I don't plan on buying any music from the iTunes store and my entire library is DRM free, so that won't be a problem. Both systems are running the latest versions of all software and operating system (though i hear this may change with Snow Leopard...?)
And while we’re at it, doing the same or similar to my iPhoto, iCal, Addressbook, Documents, etc. would be nice. Perhaps something can be done with the entire Home folder that would accomplish all of this? I’m not sure if the fact that one is Intel and the other is PowerPC would put a hitch in that method though. There are some settings, such as the totally different trackpads, etc. that will not be the same, plus i’ll be using a lot of programs solely on the MBP, which is why cloning the drive is not an option.
I’d like to find a way to set this up using just Automator and maybe some Applescripts if possible, but if i do have to bend and go third-party, it would need to be solid.
I know my situation is unique (I’ve found a lot of people trying to synchronize libraries, say, with a spouse, etc. WITHOUT syncing the metadata- or people wanting different libraries on different computers to feed into the same pool, but those are very different cases, obviously) but i’m sure there are plenty of people out there with several different macs of their own who could benefit from this solution. Any help you can give towards this would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Syncing songs on multiple computers

I'd like to be able to sync my playlists and playcounts such that my music is at home, on my iPod, and at work and when I change ratings or play songs on any of the three, the rest will update accordingly. It sounded like this was possible, however, I noticed the following note:
Music and media not purchased from the iTunes store only syncs one way, from your computer to your iPod. To transfer non-purchased music from computer-to-computer, read this tutorial.
The tutorial link was just to the iPod tutorials (don't know which one) and so I was wondering how this is accomplished?

Have you tried iPodDisk? It works brilliantly in Tiger, your iPod appears as an external disk on your desktop. However, I just use it for copying individual tracks between work and home rather than syncing as such. That said, if you copy the physical tracks, you can export the song list from the file menu, save it as a small text file and import it to your office iTunes.

  • IPod Nano (7th Generation) skipping throughout current song

So my iPod Nano (7th Generation) is skipping during just about every song that I play. The current song that I will be listening to will remain playing, but it will constantly skip throughout that same song (may sound weird... I know) unless I change to the next song or restart that current song over again. It could be a defect but I'm not 100% positive what it is. Someobdy please help me!!! Thanks

Looks like I might have fixed it.  I reset to the factory default and then made the iPod do a re-start before I re-synced my songs.  So far so good.

Trying to figure out pricing and plan options to add multiple computers to current subscirption. We currently have a subscription that allows the programs on two computers, but now I need 5 computers to be updated with CC. Have looked in to Small Business teams, but do not understand how many computers that is good for and if there is a professor or previous customer discount. Any help would be great, thanks!

    Hi,
I presume that the new configuration is missing some parts as you seem to have the IP address of the external interface configured staticly on the interface but you have not configured any default route on the firewall? (Original configuration got default route dynamically and added it to the routing table)
You also mentioned that you were able to connect to the Internet which would indicate there was indeed a default route with the new configuration?
I am a bit confused about the host mask on the external interface (/32 - 255.255.255.255) ? Does the ASA really let you configure a host address on the interface? It can't lead anywhere as there is no next hop with a host mask. I think the ASA even blocks using a /31 mask link network which works with Cisco Routers.
I guess I would go through the basic troubleshooting step when the new configuration is in use
Check logs for any blocked connections or error messages
Check the Static PAT (Port Forward) configuration with the "packet-tracer" command
Capture traffic on the ASAs external interface (with the ASA itself) and confirm that you are seeing the TCP SYN of any connection attempts, or perhaps capture ICMP

is there a way we can change the path of the songs to an external hard drive when we move the songs over?   also, is there a way to delete multiple songs easily?
I recently moved my songs over for hard drive space.  Really don't want to have to go back through each album, etc... to get that to work.
Last time I tried making a "library" that didn't work either.
On the topic of deleting multiple songs that are the same, is there an easier way then to select each one?
Seems to me apple isn't user friendly

Welcome to the world of digital media. Your can't really transfer it. I don't know what the rules are about transferring to your spouse but I do know that in some cases when you die, your heirs cannot inherit your digital media. This is why there is still an advantage to buying the CD since the usage rights belong to whomever holds the physical media.
A possible workaround is to burn the songs to a music CD with yout account (tracks only without song titles) and then having your wife upload it as a regular music CD onto her account. It's been a while since i've done this so I'm not sure if it would work now.
Please note that I'm not advocating copyright and/or TOS violations. I'm only suggesting ways to copy music for your own personal use which has traditonally been permitted. I only did this because I wanted to convert iTunes songs to mp3 files so I could burn them onto a data CD for use in my car. It would make sense that since married couples are a joint entity, this would be personal use.
Also, I'm not a lawyer so don't take this as legal advice.

  • I had previously purchased 56 songs, over a year ago. Tonight I purchased 22 more. It seems that I am being charged for all 78 that are currently in the library. How can this be stopped?

I doubt that this is happening.  Why do you think that you are being charged for all 78?
    Did you buy them again?
You only buy one download, so if you downloaded them again you would have to pay again.

  • Using the same library with multiple computers over a network Use Aperture

Hi Everyone. I am researching some cataloguing/editing programs to recommend one to my boss, and I was wondering if it was possible to use the same library between multiple computers on a network. Does anyone know if this is possible? This may be what makes or breaks the decision on whether or not to go with Aperture as we need a program that can access a large database of photos on multiple computers.
    Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum.
    You can do it, but...
    It's not supported by Apple.
Performance won't be great unless you're running a really fast network.
If more than one person tries to access the Library at one time you're likely to end up with a corrupted database, and there's no code in Aperture to limit access to one person at a time.
The Library must be stored on an HFS+ volume - don't even try putting it on a FAT32-formatted drive.
If you want 'proper' multi-concurrent-user network-enabled cataloguing software you're looking into a whole different level of investment than the low price of Aperture - think more in terms of thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars.

  • Synchronized playback from multiple computers?

My roommates and I have about 5 computers all over the house. We can all access each other's iTunes libraries, but we would like to all be able to listen to the same playlist or songs at the same time as we wander around the house. There must be an app out there that allows the simultaneous playback from multiple computers, so that every computer can be playing the same song at the same time, no?

It looks like I could play my music in VLC, then broadcast a stream over the network, however, this won't account for latency, and won't do any synchronization of the other computers. Plus, I'm not really interested in using VLC for playlists and organizing my music... Is this in the works at Apple, by any chance?

  • Music and Video on Nas in folders but how do i set up itunes on multiple computers to see and use these files and create libraries?

Music and Video on Nas in folders but how do i set up itunes on multiple computers to see and use these files and create libraries?
So i have had a itunes set up on my old PC, bought a NAS and copied the folders over to the NAS, i did this incorrectly and so then even when i told the old PC to use that folder it saw all the songs but wasnt able to play the songs as it was looking in the incorrect place.
So now i want my Mac as well as my PC and others to all use the music, videos etc on the NAS they are in itunes friendly folders (as they were compiled this way by the itunes on the old PC.
When i tell the mac to use the itunes library.itl file it sees the song list (about 100gb) but cant see any songs, so i have removed this file to another location for now with the hope to set up a new file and then get it to see the songs on the folder from the NAS.
Can someone tell me how to do this for all the Mac's and PC's on my network as i really want one master library that all use and add too.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I have the same question but I am using two pc's

  • Syncing the same iTunes library among multiple computers

I have two computers, a Windows 7 laptop and a new iMac. iTunes on both computers are signed into the same Apple ID. I currently have my iTunes library on my laptop, but I would like to also have the exact same library on my iMac. For instance, if I download a new podcast to my laptop, it should be placed on my iMac as well. When I delete the podcast, it should be deleted on the iMac too. When song metadata is updated on my laptop (play count, lyrics, etc), I want it updated on the iMac automatically.
I have not had much experience with Home Sharing, but would that do all of this automatically? I know I could manually transfer songs from one computer to the other using Home Sharing, but what about updated metadata or deleting files?
iCloud has made this situation more interesting. I know iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match will keep music files in sync among various devices (including metadata?), but what about podcasts or movies or files not purchased via iTunes? I know there are plenty of details that are yet to be released concerning iCloud, but do you think it will solve this problem entirely, or will manual labor be required to obtain the exact same library among multiple computers?
I have considered only using my iMac to maintain my library, since it is always on and I could use Home Sharing to listen to music on my laptop since they are on the same Wifi network. However, I feel it would be best to keep the same library on two computers for when I take my laptop on vacation away from my home network.
What would you suggest for this situation?
    Thanks!

sorry about the slight irrelevence of this post on this thread....i saw this much older post you had in my explorations and it is almost to a "T" my issue currently and i was wondering if you ever came to a conclusion or had any tips or resolution paths i could explore. your original message:
I have 2 computers I'd like to set up Home Sharing on. One is Windows XP and the other is Windows 7.
I set it all up but then the libraries never show up. Nothing happens.

I don't know why it's not working. Can you please help?
              Thanks!!
is EXACTLY my problem with the only variable being that both of my computers run 7. furthermore, you went on to say you were experiencing issues with the "remote" app. that was the initial objective for me in my system that got me here with a deeper problem with home share. i want to home share my itunes library and control it from my iPod touch 4g. is that such an unreasonable request?!?!? lol. i'm incredibly frustrated and was hoping that since you had such specifically similar circumstances....have you found a solution? PLEASE HELP!!! thank you so much for your time.
