Broadcasting our church service

We are purchasing our first Mac for our church, and we broadcast our services through Ustream.  Can anyone tell me what adapter I need to go from the audio/video outs on the camcorder to the Mac?
I think I may have posted in the wrong section.  Please forgive me.  First time on here.

Hello,
Might I ask what you were previously using to interface your camera to your computer?
Or better yet, what output connections does your camera support? (1/4", XLR, 1/8", HDMI, etc)
In order to capture video from the camera and interface it with uStream, it sounds like you will need a capture card.
These devices vary in quality, and Input/Output configurations.
If your camera supports live HDMI output from the camera, (or mini-HDMI with the use of an adapter cable)
You should be able to use a device like the Elgato - Game Capture HD.
http://www.elgato.com/en/gaming/game-capture-hd
This device is made primarily for caputuring outputs from video game consoles, over an HDMI connection.
If you are looking for a more professional solution, with a wider range of inputs & outputs, I will suggest the Blackmagic Inensity series of products.
http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity
This way you can interface with the software of your liking.

We run an iMac 3.4 GHz I7 in our church worship service; we have front screens and a stage display monitor ; we haven't upgraded to Mavericks because we heard about issues with multiple screens crashing.  Has this issue been resolved?  Now that we are 2 upgrades behind, I'm getting little concerned.  Thank you!

Oh, well that was a whole other kettle of fish:
Oh the G4 I attempted to install iLife '08 before Lepoard was available. About the only thing that installed cleanly was iPhoto. I ended up reinstalling everything back to iLife '06, and then upgrading back to the current stable version of the iLife '06 version. I didn't attempt a reinstall until after I upgraded to Leopard.
When I did reinstall, I made a iLife '06 folder, copied all iLife apps into it, and upgraded. Seemed to work, except for the part where iMovie gets left behind and iDVD is only mostly functional.
When I installed on the other 2 machines, it was after installing Leopard and all upgrades. On those 2 machines, I didn't bother with the copy, I just moved everything to the iLife '06 folder I created, and did a fresh install.
I didn't have to do anything with the iPhoto Libraries, that I can recall.
I always do an upgrade, never an archive and install. I've never had a problem with this back to 10.1 or 10.2.

  • Want to stream audio of church services...use iChat?

    Hi all,
I have a friend who is very ill and cannot be in our weekly services. She is able to use a computer with her eyes (blinking). We would like to purchase a MacBook to broadcast this service live. We don't need video, just audio.
Would iChat be the way to go?
Also, if we have wifi in the church for the mac and she has wifi for her computer, do we still need to purchase anything else?
    Thanks

    Hi,
iChat could be one way to do this.
Your Church computer and hers would need Internet access unless you mean she is that close to the church that she can be on the same Network (like having several computers at home).
iChat can work over the Internet or over a local Network (LAN)
Getting suitable Audio into the Church Mac may be an issue.
The 3.5mm Audio Line In needs the signal to be amplified or at least Pre-amped.
(it does not work with stand-alone PC 3.5mm Mic jacks as they are not pre-amped)
If you have Mics for clergy and for music and a mixing desk of some sort then the Headphone/monitoring output should be good enough.
iChat uses several different ports over the internet that may not be open in any routing device as standard.
There are in fact 65535 ports as they are called over an internet connection.
In most devices that route a certain number up to port 1024 are open by default and allow Web Browsing and mail apps to work.
iChat uses ports above this threshold or port 1024.
This often requires that the ports are specifically opened.
The method used can vary from device to device but if you need to purchase one get one that does UPnP as this is an Enable/Disable setting that is easy to set up. (the apps then tell the device which ports to Open).
In some Universities and large office set ups you can have issues as A/V Chatting is not allowed for "Security" or "Bandwidth" reasons.
The same may apply in a Hospital or other medical facility.
If, as a customer, they have been promised "full Internet Access" then playing the customer card and the "Service provided is not fit for purpose" may help if ports or other restrictions are in place.
iChat can be somewhat Automated as to Starting when the computer is turned On and to Auto Accept invites which may help.
    Another option may be Mebeam
This is a web site that create "Rooms" normally for Video chatting but could be for Audio only.
As it is via a Web Browser it is likely to be accessible almost anywhere.
It uses Flash to control the Mic and Camera.
Again Audio input to the church Mac would still be a concern.

  • Looking For A Camera For Our Church

I need to buy a camcorder for our church.  It will be used to show live video during services and to record special events such as weddings.  The main features I am looking for are:
    (1) Flash memory
    (2) Ability to handle low light conditions
    (3) Audio input connection
That last item seems to be the challenge.  I want to be able to input audio from our mixer, but it seems that you have to go to to the high-end (> $3,000) cameras to get a line-level audio input connection.  We would like to stay under $1,000.  Does anyone know of a camera that would meet my needs and still be affordable?
Alternatively, could we use the external mic input and adjust the mixer output level down to a level equivalent to a condenser mic?
    Your help would be appreciated!
    THANKS

I think you already solved your problem in your description - use a lower end unit with a mic input and find an adapter from line-level to mic input levels.
I believe active XLR-to-3.5mm stereo adapters exist and are $100-200.  I see passive ones (not sure how well they will actually work) for $10-20.
For the camcorder itself, Canon's HF series are a good bet.  I have an HF100 and it's great.  Current offering that is likely your best bet is the HF200.  The HF S200 will be replacing it soon, however at a few hundred dollars extra.

Our church would like to purchase an ipad3 for our pastor, he is 30yrs old. Should we get 16,32 or 64 with verizon or at&t

For the carrier, I'd check to see what the signal and speeds are in your area and make my decision from there.
You might also want to think about getting a WiFi only iPad. It costs almost the same to buy a 32GB WiFi + 4G/LTE iPad than a 64GB WiFi only model, so I would evaluate that. Also, he would have to pay for the 4G service and might not need it. Most places have open WiFi networks and if he has a smartphone, he could just use the HotSpot option to give his iPad internet access.
I'd go for 32GB of storage space because it is in the middle and will meet the average user's needs. 16GB might be too little space, whereas with 64GB, he might not even use half of the storage space.
I used to have a 16GB, which had less than 1GB left of space before I upgraded to a 32GB. The 16GB had my music (little under 1500 songs), around 300 pictures and the rest was filled with apps and files (books mostly). The new iPad (32GB) still has 10GB of space so I don't have to worry if I want to download a few pictures or new apps.

I've been working on our church website and all of a sudden this week, my computer will not connect to the site. I keep getting a message saying that the the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can fix this?

The "The connection was reset" error message can be caused by a bug fix for the BEAST (Browser Exploit Against SSL/TLS) attack that the server doesn't handle.

  • How do we prevent uncaught exceptions in our web role from causing 502's across our entire service?

We've recently migrated our web service to Azure. Part of it is running on an Azure Cloud Service. It serves around 5000 requests per minute, lots of dynamic image generation and various types of data feeds. We're currently running two Standard D4 instances
backed by a P1 SQL database and B4 Redis cache.
Our service is dependent on many 3rd party web services; try as we might sometimes bad data slips through the cracks and our service returns a 500 response (we output a short, custom xml response with usually an http 500 status). Occasionally this will happen
to routes that receive many requests - large networks or devices that aggressively retry - and this appears to cause Azure to return a 502 error page for all routes to our web role. It doesn't even really take that many. A few thousand over a 15 minute period
caused it today. It was simply an uncaught null reference exception.
This takes our entire service down and is a huge issue for us. Is an Azure load balancer in front of our services canning our incoming connections when it detects some level of 500 responses from our service? What should we be doing differently?

We're considering a couple of options. The first was simply to respond with a 503 response instead of a 500, and use the Retry-After header. We cannot guarantee clients will follow that header, however. Our other thought is to more closely monitor the error
rate (currently we have a job checking every 5 minutes for the total errors per end point over the last 15 minutes) and when some low threshold is passed return a 200 response with a short message or an "empty" response appropriate to the expected
content type (which might be a solid black image, for example).
If feels wrong to return a 200 response when our service cannot successfully complete the request, but we're not sure what else to do and what Azure may or may not be doing that is outside of our control here.

We are using the Azure server for our web services. Server is generating an error "Unable to connect to the remote server". What is this error means

    Hello,
Did you means that you use the Windows Azure Virtual Machine DNS name as the server name in the Reporting Server Web Services URL?
    For example:
    Report server:http://uebi.cloudapp.net/reportserver
    Report manager:http://uebi.cloudapp.net/reports
If you want to connect to Report Manager on the virtual machine from a remote computer, you should create a  virtual machine TCP Endpoint and open the port in the virtual machine’s firewall. By default, the report server listens for HTTP requests
    on port 80.
