Broadcasting question

Hello all,
I would like to broadcasting some report to our customers. I have two questions:
1. Can I send the report to any valid email address?
2. Is it possible to use ALEREMOTE as the owner when send out the report? How to do that?
Thanks!

Probably the same reason you don't want to use root to do everything in Unix.  It's a security concern, also if something goes wrong with broadcasting or whatever, you might need to blow away the ID, but you can't blow away ALEREMOTE.  We created a separate system account just for broadcasting.
While technically you can go with what Emmanuel said about logging into portal with any ID then use ALEREMOTE under authorization user of the broadcast configuration, we've run into errors with that setup.  So we played it safe and logged in with the system ID and created broadcast settings with that ID, so that both the setting owner and the authorization user are the same.

I have 2 questions that I need help with. First, is in the hub settings there is a option to enable or disable Cell Broadcast. What function does it serve? And second does it use battery resources?
    Thanks

    Cell Broadcast
It won't consume battery resources unless it is being utilized.

  • BEx Broadcaster Question

    Hello All.
Just a quick question since i'm getting inpatient.
I'm trying to set up schedules thru bex broadcaster thru the BI Portal.
Is there any other way to do this?  Meaning is there a tran code i can go to in the system and do the same.
This just seems to be very slow way of doing it, and just thought i'd throw the question out there.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Broadcast questions

I've just been asked if I could shoot a debate for possible airing on our local Comcast provider. We're just in preliminary talks now, but figured I should get a jump on the game if I can. I've done DVD only work, but through reading these forums, have learned many things about video for broadcast. I know that Comcast will be picky about what format it's delivered on, either a tape or HDD, so that's something I'm asking about. But what else am I forgetting? I know coloring is major for broadcast, so really for the first time, I'll spend a while coloring the whole thing (the debate will be in a large room with florescent lighting, so I figure all I'll really be doing is taking out the florescent color and giving the speakers some life back in them). So besides delivery and coloring, is there anything else I should watch out for? I'll be shooting at least 2, hopefully 3 cameras in HDV, then downconverting to DV on import since I don't think Comcast would air this in HD anyways. Will I need to include timecode or countdown at the beginning? I know I'll need to add Bars and Tone, but how long and at both the start and finish? A lot of these questions I figure I need to discuss with someone at Comcast, but seeing as how right now I'm just working on a MacBook Pro with my camera as my deck (bad, I know, but when I start getting bigger jobs that require better equipment, then I'll upgrade), I want to plan what I'll need to rent, buy, or borrow for this gig early so I'm prepared.
Any details on broadcast work would be great, thanks.
    -Brian

Believe it or not, I did a performance recently on our local Comcast station, and asked them what format they were recording on and if I could get a dub and they told me they were recording to a DVD recorder and nothing else, for the broadcast master for their show!! They were nice enough to make me a VHS copy (informing me that in fact this was SUPER VHS - ooooo!)
Whether or not your station has similar standards or lack thereof, it will behoove you to take this opprotunity to learn about mastering. The station should be able to provide you with their specs and recommendations. As far as what you can do on your end -
turn on Range Check to see if any clips need to have the broadcast filter applied. FCP's broadcast filter will clamp down on luma and chroma (brightness and color sturation) to bring the image into broadcat safe specs. Usually this is done for non-cable broadcast signals, to keep the brightness and chroma from "bleeding" into the range of the frequency bandwidth used by the audio portion of the VHF or UHF signal. The Brodcast Safe filter can be merciless with your image detail if applied aggressively, and you may find better results can be achieved with the Color Correction filters.
I usually stripe my master tape with TC starting at 00:58:30:00. This allows 90 seconds for bars, slate and countdown before starting the program at 1:00:00:00, which iis generally the standard in North America. I like to build a sequence that will mirror my master tape, adding the bars, slate, and countdown in the sequence, rather than in the mastering window. There is a nice film countdown available in the Cinema Tools extras folder on the FCS discs somewhere, if you didn't already install it. I believe the file is called Head Leader-DV NTSC, or some such thing. There will be a countdown to -2 seconds with a pop that is supposed to occur 2 seconds before program start - in case you ever wondered where 2-pop came from...
Something that many beginners do not consider is that the bars and tone are supposed to be a reference to your program, not just some extra thing to stick onto your tape at the beginning. For instance, If you have taken the time to correct your color for broadcast safe, the default bars generator from final cut will have white levels outside of broadcast safe. Any engineer that receives your tape who is doing his or her job will see these bars and then correct the signal according to those bars, which will result in dull highlights and gray blacks. If your program is already broadcast safe, you should put a filter on the bars to match, to avoid "setup" being added to your video unnecessarily.
Same is true with the tone level. The bars will have a default reference tone level of -12. If analog dubs are made, the practice generally is to set the analog tone level to 0VU - on the analog scale, 0 is in the middle, with usually 5-10dB or more of headroom above 0VU, wehreas on the digital scale, 0dB is the absolute ceiling, above which any signal will be clipped. Anyway, I usually mix my audio so my average dialog is between -18 and -12, with peaks going to -9 or so. In this case I use a reference tone of -20 on my master, so that setting the incoming tone level to 0 on analog equipment will use the headroom above 0VU. If you have mixed your audio in this way, then you may get better results by changing the tone level in your mastering sequence. If your audio levels in FCP are peaking closer to 0dB on the digital scale, you should use the default -12 tone on the bars. There are differing shcools of thought on what is really the right standard, and different types of audio warrant different approaches, depending on dynamic range, how the master willl be used, etc.
    Hope this helps -

  • Disabling SSID Broadcast Question

I'm glad to say that my just installed router (WRT54GS-7) is working great.  I have a question however on Disabling SSID Broadcast.  According to the Linksys instructions, after I checked the disable button, I am required to change my profile.  I am to click on an icon on the bottom right tool bar.  The issue I have is that there is no icon to click on.  If I disable my SSID Broadcast, how do I go about changing my profile?

If Windows is the primary connection software for your wireless, simply open Start-->Control Panel-->Network Connections
Right-click the wireless network connection in that list and click Properties, the second tab labeled Wireless Networks will allow you to create a profile for a wireless network.  Profiles appear in the Preferred Networks list.  If this area is greyed out that means you installed 3rd party software to handle your wireless connections.  In which case you will need to open that software and configure the profile from within there.

  • DVD/Broadcast Question

    Hi there,
I am a newbie to the forum, and have a quick question about DVD/Broadcast formats.
I recently created a DVD and captured the footage at the NTSC DV setting which I assume was 720x480. However, I've been asked now to use the same footage now to make a brief broadcast commercial spot. This is my first time creating anything for broadcast so please bear with me here.
I did my research in the FCP manual and it says that broadcast size is 720x486. However it also says the absense of 6 lines is hardly noticeable on analog TV.
Pretty much my question is, can I still use the footage I used for my DVD for broadcast at the same size? Or do I have to import the footage again for broadcast? And for the future when I capture, can I use the DV-NTSC 720x480 for broadcast? Or will those 6 lines really make a difference?
I'm a little confused and I want to make sure I get this right.
    Thanks in advance,
    Oliver Alexander

Call up the station and ask them what they want as a delivered format and all relevant standards they will enforce (audio and video levels, audio track standards, etc). It is likely you will need to become very familiar with a whole lot more than the difference between DV and SD video.
Once you know what the delivery format needs to be, you can work backward to what you have as source media. In any case, you would be well advised to begin the project with the highest resolution material you have - which is not your DVD stuff.

  • Broadcast Question

    Hello All:
I believe this is a very basic question so this is why I chose to post it in this forum.
Have a DMZ configured 209.178.228.128/25. I just noticed while looking through firewall logs that each machine in the DMZ is ocassionally sending a boadcast packet (protocol 17) to 209.127.228.127 which is being dropped.
This is not causing any issues other than filling up the FW logs. .127 would be the broadcast address for the other half of this class C correct? Can anyone explain why this is happening so I can better understand it?
    Thanks

From what i see 209.178.228.128/25 is completely different from the ip 209.127.228.127 so this does'nt even belong to the other half of the Class C address.
Could you post the logs or do u have some ethereal logs which you could share. Could explain the scenario then.

  • Exporting for Broadcast Question

    Hello Folks,
Very simple question that I cannot seem to find sifting through the forums. We helped film some interviews for a broadcast station. They have requested that we send them digital files in .MOV format and .AVI format.
The .MOV is of course no problem. It is the .AVI that is a problem. I know and have done the Quicktime Conversion to AVI and the process for Compressor to AVI as well. Multiple tests have not given me the results I need. The issue is the resolution and quality.
The original files are off of a Sony XDCAM EX. They are 1080p at 30 fps (29.97). The image of course looks stunning and I was able to keep that quality with the .MOV
It drops down the resolution size and the quality deteriorates substantially in the AVI format and that after I change settings as high as they can go, which I guess is not that high.
So the question is this: Is there a way to export high resolution (1080 HD) AVI files from FCP or is there a third party software that will do this on Mac. I am fully aware that this may not be possible and I will not keep pressing for an answer when there may not be one. I am just trying to accommodate what we were asked for. So if someone could just tell me either yes and the solution or a no, I will greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time folks.

I would send them the .MOV files. If they can't play them, that's when you start dealing with .AVIs. A good quality AVI is next to impossible to get on a Mac. I think Microsoft has crippled the codec for Mac.
So if they don't like the MOV files, then take them to a PC and convert to AVI.

  • 7.x Workbook BroadCasting questions

    Hello Gurus,
We are currently upgrading from BW 3.5 to 7.01 and migrating several Reporting Agent settings to the BroadCaster 7. We need your assistance on a particular requirement for which we cannot find a clear answer online (either on SDN, OSS or SAP related blogs) :
We would like to know if it is possible to BroadCast a 7.x Workbook that contains about a dozen queries (1 per worksheet) by converting each sheet as an individual PDF file. As a workaround, we could accept to split the original workbook into several workbooks (one for each query) but we must be able to export them individually as a pdf.
Additionally, we would like to be able to export the generated pdf files to either a windows server (unless we can send these these pdf via email and automate their extraction / transfer to windows server.
We are aware that most of the precalculation steps for a workbook require to set up a dedicated precalculation server, and we already have looked at a bunch of white papers (including "Checking Precalculation Server Issues for BEx Analyzer Workbooks in BW 7.X"), SDN blogs and OSS notes (among them: 1236773 - BI7.X Precalculation - General Information & Limitations; 1425805 - Hardware&Software requirement for BI7.x frontend....) and threads here (including the popular "Troubleshoot Information Broadcasting") but cannot find a clear and definitive answer.
Therefore, we would like to ensure that our requirements are technically feasible before setting up a precalculation server.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sébastien FRANCAL

    Hi Amer,
You managed to broadcast workbooks ... as PDF files? If you did, can you please detail how because it looks like it`s not possible...

  • Information Broadcasting question

    Hi Guys,
We are using BI 7.0 for queries but still using WAD 3.5 for web templates. I am trying to distribute a report via e-mail [online link - output format.]. In the 'General Link Generation' tab of the broadcast setting, I selected 'Determine here - variant occupancy'  option and entered a value on the variable screen for one of the variables. None of the variables are mandatory.  I saved this new setting and am able to send the online link to my e-mail.
The issue is, when i click on the link, the variable screen pops up. I don't want the variable screen. Instead, I directly want to see the report output after clicking on the link or URL. How do i acheive this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you are using Abap Web, and the SAP default template (you can check via RSCUSTV21 transaction), open the template
    0ADHOC with Web Application Designer 3.x .
On Properties select 0ADHOC -> WebItem TAB:
    > Check the box "Force Variable Screen Display" is OFF
However, If you are using BI Java Web, and the SAP default template (you can check via RSCUSTV27 transaction), open the template 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN with Web Application Designer 7.0.
On WEBTEMPLATE properties -> -> WebTemplate Paramenters TAB:
    > Check the Box Display Variable Screen to OFF.

  • N95 Cell Broadcast Question ?

    Hi.
I've been used to when "Cell Broadcast" is enabled for Topic 050 that on the display is shown from where I receive the signal.
In my N95 I'm only getting mesages telling me from where the signal is received but nothing is shown on the display.
Can someone of you guys tell me how to set it up that my phone won't alert me with a message received and only shows on the display from where I receive my signal.
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tommy

Just put cell broadcast to off & it won't bother you anymore. By the way you have to subscribe first to a particular topic in which your isp provides such as traffic condition or whatever, so it can be send to you & displayed on your phone.

  • SSID Broadcast question

Ok, so today I thought that I would tighten my security up a little, so I turned off SSID broadcast. So everything was fine, I shut down, when I booted back up, and it would not find or connect to the network. I had to turn broadcasting back on in order to connect, how to I get this to work?
    Windows Vista
    WRT56GL V1

I used to recommend that "SSID Broadcast" be set to "disabled" for security reasons.  However, newer cracking methods have made this old trick practically worthless.  Currently, I recommend leaving "SSID Broadcast" set to "enabled".  This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Your primary wireless protection comes from using a good encryption method such as WPA or preferably WPA2, and from using strong passwords.  WPA or WPA2 passwords (keys) should be at least 24 random characters (capital letters, small letters, and digits), and they should not contain any spaces.  With this level of encryption, you do not need to worry about broadcasting your SSID.

  • Aironet AP1242G Antenna & Broadcast Questions

    1. Does the Aironet 1242G have an internal antenna?
    2. When connecting an AIR-ANT1728 omnidirectional to the primary connector on the ap, does this have to be enable or is it enable by default?
    3. My laptops can connect and travel between access point just fine, but smartphones cannot even see the network. Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help.

    1. Does the Aironet 1242G have an internal antenna?
    External antenna only.
    3. My laptops can connect and travel between access point just fine, but smartphones cannot even see the network. Any ideas?
It's your smartphone.  Wireless doesn't "discriminate".  It doesn't go like "Today, I'll let the laptops authenticate and the smarphones go to heck."
If your laptops work but your smartphone doesn't then theres some incorrect settings on the smartphone.
To determine which setting is causing your smartphone to fail, create a new broadcasting SSID with NO encryption and NO password.
If the smartphone doesn't connect even to that, then you have a problem with the smartphone.  If the smartphone can connect to that, then ramp up the security and encryption one-at-a-time until you hit a brick wall.
One more thing, iPhones don't like to "choose" between WPA or WPA2.  You enable EITHER ONE but don't enable both and hope the iPhone can choose, because it won't.  The iPhone will just go nuts.

  • Wireless N Broadcasting Question

I recently purchased my 1st wireless N router (Linksys of course and I noticed that it's broadcasting 2 signals (one I named N and the other I named NMedia but I can't remember why I named it that).  Why are there 2 different signals?

Well, it's easier to tell if you have posted the exact model and version of the router as printed on the label underneath the router.
It seems as if you have one of those dual-radio wireless routers. It has two radios built-in to allow simultaneous communication on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Both radios can be configured independently and by default use different SSIDs. This way you can "select" if you want to connect on the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band depending on the SSID you choose. Usually, the "Media" SSID is the 5 GHz band because in average it's not so busy as the 2.4 GHz band and thus is better for media streaming.
If you don't want two SSIDs and you have rather let your computer pick the band to use (which is a decision of the wireless device driver in the computer) you can set both SSIDs identically, with identical wireless security. Then each wireless device can pick the band.
Other wireless N routers are dual-band but not dual-radio. The radio can be configured for 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz but you cannot use both at the same time. Some other wireless N routers are only 2.4 GHz single band.
