Broadcasting Workbooks Variable Assignments Question

We have several Workbooks that are being broadcast. The majority use Fiscal period and Fical year as input variables. Right now we have to manually go in and update the variable assignments for these broadcast every week.
Question -
Without have to setup a new custom variable in the queries that will default to the current week and year, is there a way to update the broadcast variables automatically with the current fiscal period and year?

As with any normal query - cmod the variable so it defaults to last week, current week based on sy-datlo or sy-datum and then find the last week
The broadcast setting will then fire with whatever has been defaulted
Edit - sorry I just saw your without cmoding how do I do it..

Precalculation Server error after 10 broadcasted workbooks

Hi gurus,
i have a question concerning broadcasting workbooks. We are using the newest precalculation server with patch 13. The first 10 workbooks are calculated and sent via email. The rest of workbooks calculated are sent as a job but the RSRD_Log transaction shows an error. It begins with "Unresolved exception occured in the precalculation server" then next message "System.Runtime.InteropServices.comException. The RPC server is unavailable (Exception from HRESULT:xxxxxx) "
Then some other messages are displayed. Then at the end it says cannot precalculate Workbook. In rsprecadmin the server is green and ready.
Is there any restrictionin sending via Email?
How can i get the server again to continue sending?
How can i clear the queue, to get the precalculation server ready to continue scheduled workbooks?

we are testing the broadcast functionality and we want to go live first week in september. I hope you remember and suggested me the note which came out in CW33 with the precalculation server patch 13 . we are using it but still NVs but there is also the issue with the sizing. Last night we scheduled 16 times the same workbook.All 5 minutes one workbook should be sent out. 2 Precalculation server were set up to deal with them. In the SAP document "How to ...Troubleshoot Information Broadcasting (BEx Workbooks)" in chapter 2 it is mentioned that when ycurrently you can have 10 workbooks in the queue. Therefore we set up 2 precalculation server with 10 workbooks capacity. Then we set in the Broadcast setting the load balancing option without selecting any precalculation server. My intention would be the first 10 workbooks should be broadcasted with one of the precalculation server. After he has reached his capacity the next workbooks would be broadcasted with the second precalculation server. Am i wrong?
When i check the queue i see the 16 workbooks in "Queue Overview of Proccessed Error-Free Precalculations" but with a duration with 0 seconds. the log says in RSRD_LOG says as described before the first message is "Unresolved exception occurred on the precalculation server" then "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800 0706BA): The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception" and at the end "Cannot precalculate workbook ZBROADCAST_TEST". I can see that when load balancing the second server is not used.
But while seraching for precalculation server it says "Precalculation server PRECALC_2 has only 0 free instanzen => not selected" but why. it has never been used why 0 instances free?

Broadcasting Workbook using Email Bursting

Hi All,
I am trying to Broadcast Workbook Using Email Bursting option and I am getting corrupted workbook. I have seen several posts in this regard and then included a Mandatory Variable to do precalculation but even then its sending a corrupted workbook.
Now I have a new issue along with this: my precal server(t-code: RSPRECADMIN) is becoming offline(Red)/ at capacity(Yellow) whenever i try to braodcast a workbook. So i have to restart the Service on the server and also followed all the steps listed in the How to..troubleshoot information broadcasting pdf.
we are on BI 7.0 SP 17 and installed the latest version of precalserver.
Can anyone please tell me step by step procedure on how to Broadcast Workbook using Email Bursting .

I opened an SAP note and they came up saying
"Please be informed that BI 7.X PreCalculation service is not available
with GUI 710. you have to use GUI 640 for precalculating the workbooks.
Precalculation service for GUI 710 is still in testing and not delivere
d for customers yet.
Please refer to the below mentioned note:
1145589 : BI 7.X PreCalculation service delivery schedule"
I did not try on 640 yet...please let me know if you find the solution for this..

Bex Workbook variables

Hi All,
We have a couple of variables included in our report:
Fiscal Year
Posting period
We are populating these fields using a customer exit that is based on the current system date and this works well for queries.
The problem is that when we use the workbook the customer exit variable values are not flowing through to the workbooks variable screens as the workbooks were already saved with a different Fiscal Year and Posting period selection and this now seems to be overwriting the customer exit variables.
Is it possible for the customer exit value to override the saved workbook value for the Fiscal year and Posting Period without making the variables optional and saving them as blank in the workbook?

Create new work book.While executing the work book,it is asking me to enter variable values.Once the variables are given and when start executing it, i am getting the ouput correctly and when i broadcast the same through email,in work precalculation tab, again it is asking me to enter variable values.I have done that and executed. But I am not able to receive any email.Infact,after taking 3 mnts it showing Timed out error.Kindly,suggest me with a solution to this. Where should I exactly enter variables?

Broadcasting workbooks

hi guys,
i have a problem with broadcasting workbooks. it seems the variables set up for precalculation dont work. I receive a workbook but it has no data just NV and the text items are not dispalyed correctly. Why could this happen?
My precalculation server is active and tested successfully. My mal sending is ok.
sost and SLG1 is ok. the precalculation is working
What could be the reason?

Try few things :
1. Simplyfy your workbook and try broadcasting.
2. try query broadcasting.
3. check in RSRD_ADMIN the output
4. Check if you broadcast the WB it comes in RSPRECADMIN

Unable to broadcast workbooks. need help

Dear all,
We are unable to broadcast workbooks in broadcaster.
When we are trying execute in broadcaster settings. we are getting following message.
"settings <Workbook Name> were started from the BEx Broadcaster. it is green
processing of user <userid>. language EN, it is green
Processing setting < Workbook Name>. it is green
An Active RFC server could not be found. finally ended up with red alert"
so we could not broadcast workbooks.
please suggest some possible solutions. it is in production server. so it is quite critical error and need solution ASAP.
please help.

Goto SCOT/SCON t-code, click create button,
Then give the node name and desc>select the connection as RFC connection>select any RFC Destination (any server)>then select Internet>then give the Internet mail address>then select formats which you want>don't select the restrict time>then select 'N' for further mail types>give max wait time in hrs and mins>select nod ready for use>select the test connection--> test the connection and click on Finish button
Then it completes the SMTP connection.

Broadcasting Workbooks through Process Chain

Dear friends,
I want to broadcast workbooks through process chain. I have tried two programs
1) RSRD_BROADCAST_STARTER
2) RSRD_BROADCAST_BATCH
My requirement is that, I want a log to be mailed to me stating the success or failure of the broadcast of the workbook.
Through the first program, I am able to send the log to my e-mail ID however I am not able to send the workbook.
Through the second program, when I execute the process chain, it immediately says process chain executed. After some time the log mail comes stating succss. After some more time the workbook gets broadcasted.
I want the workbook to be broadcasted first and then the log should come specifying the success or failure of the precalculation of the workbook in the precal server.
Please let me know if somebody knows how to do it.

Yes You have to install pre-calculation server for broadcasting and the process for that is
http://service.sap.com/swdc > Download>Support Packages & Patches>Entry by Application Group>SAP NETWEAVER -->SAP NETWEAVER 04 -->BI Precalculation
and can check its status in transaction : RSPRECADMIN or
Transaction SPRO>SAP Referance IMG> SAP Netweaver> Business Interlligence>
Settings for Reporting and Analysis> Settings for Information Broadcasting> Administrate Pre-calculation Server.
and the precalculation is done : Open Query>Publish>BEx Broadcaster , then you can also make new settings --> three or foue tabs and one of the tab is pre-calculate.

Please go to transaction SE11 and there search in database table for tables starting with
/BIC/OB*
My table for example is named as following /it is the first precalculated value set:
Transparent table -> /BIC/OB00000001
description -> Calculate with Broadcast Setting Z_CCUSTOMER_PRECALC_01
However table class is L, where so I don't knwo how to see the data..

Precalculation Server Broadcast Workbooks - BI7.0

Hi,
We have installed Precalculation Server to broadcast our Workbooks in BI7.0 System. The configuration looks OK. We are able to successfully broadcast workbooks. We receive an email with attached excel file. But when we open up this excel file, there is no data returned. All we see is the template again.
I have checked the configuration again and also gone thru How to Information Broadcasting.pdf document, still no luck.
Can someone please point to where the issue might be?

Currently, Bex broadcaster not working in my environment due to missing installation of JAVA component. Understand that precalculated server allows us to store the workbook in a central place. So that repective party can just take the precalculated workbook to perform their analysis. Without precalculated server, we have to execute the query multiple times in order to broadcast the query via email to the respective party.
Is my understand correctly with or without precalculated server, we are able to broadcast the query via email?

Deploy and run the support desk tool as per note 937697.There will be a text file generated please check this text file to see all the BW EP configuration is correct and as per SAP recommendations.
This will also give you the exact error message and solution to get rid of your issue.

Broadcasting Workbook Error | An active RFC server could not be found

Hi All,
I am facing an issue while trying to broadcast(distribute) a workbook. The broadcasting of a query from the query designer works fine. But when I try to distribute a workbook, it throws up the following error. We have used the SMTP method(Using SMTP plug-in) for broadcasting and we know that we can use RFC(Using RFC connection) too. But my question is whether RFC method is a must for workbook distribution.Kindly help me.

Have you configured a Precalculation server in transaction RSPRECADMIN ?
Precalculation servers are basically PC, that are used for their Excel capabilities, in order to produce up-to-date workbooks.

Broadcasting - dynamic variables

Hi,
I have question on broadcasting while using mandatory variables which need to be dynamically filled. Here is my scenario:
I am on BI 7.0 and using email bursting.
Query is having 4 variables : CalDay, Fisc Period, Company code, currency.
Calday and Fiscper are pre-populated using customer exit. (-step =1). They are current day and current Fiscal Period.
Currency and company needs to be passed to broadcasting job.
Now as per my understanding, these needs to be passed thru 'general pre-calculation' tab either thru variable assignment or variant. But issue is in either of this, values for current day and current fisc period gets saved and will not be refreshed when broadcasting runs next time, which we dont want.
To over come this issue, we need to write abap program to dynamically change these values. Now per my observation, this setting gets stored in table RSRD_SETT_NODE_A.
Finally here are my questions,
1) In table RSRD_SETT_NODE_A, i just see variant name but the actual fields and values used for this variant are not stored here. Could you please guide me where the actual values are stored so that if I have to write ABAP program, i can change those values. (I dont see this variant in RSRVARIANT table also.)
2) Other options to leverage without using above ABAP method.

The variants of the variables will be stored in the table TVARV. May be you can write a custom ABAP program to modify this variant values in this table and see if the broadcast happens accordingly.

Bex Broadcasting and variable variant

Hello,
I have a workbook with queries using 0CALDAY. I want send by email in Broadcasting, I need get the current day for 0CALDAY but the variant dont have the posibility of D (Dynamics Variable) only the option T is in the match-code. (I cannot put change the query because I need for other proposed)
Please, What is the way for take the current day in a workbook for broadcasting?

Scalar Variable Syntax questions

I am practicing Scalar Variables in a workbook. Can some help me answer these questions working with Variables. The Table name is Flights.
Create and set a Variable equal to the number of Flights that were late.
Multiply that amount by the amount lost per late flight ($1,029) and store the amount in another variable.
Take the total amount lost (#4) and subtract it from Total profit ($45,000) and store that number in a variable.
Find out the Earliest FlightDate and add 10 years to it and store it in a variable.
Find out the day of the week for the Latest FlightDate and store it in a variable.

I'm not really sure how you would benefit from we giving the answers to your exercises. How would you learn from that?
I will only point what I think is a misunderstanding. When they say Create and set a Variable equal to the number of Flights that were late., I think they mean a scalar variable, not a table variable.
