Broadcom 4311 Wireless Drivers error

Okay, sorry for going super newbie on everything. First off, I checked both Arch Installation guides. I checked the Broadcom section in the wiki. I'm trying to install arch linux on an old (2007) Lenovo 3000 c100 laptop, to revive it and make it better. However it had a broadcom driver which I know isn't supported by Linux. Luckily for me, there was a driver for it: http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php on that page. I download the 32-bit and put it on a flash drive, since I don't have an internet connection from it, and used mount to mount the flash drive. After trying to install the driver through pacman, it said the package was either "invalid" or "corrupted'. Just great. I tried doing many different things. Including re-downloading. Same. I really appreciate any help. thanks

Did you use the AUR package or the tar ball. Because I find that using the tar ball it doesn't get the module working correctly sometimes. Your best bet would be to do this download this file http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/broad … -wl.tar.gz
Then run the following commands
tar zxvf broadcom-wl.tar.gz
cd broadcom-wl
makepkg -si
Then run these commands
rmmod b43 ssb
modprobe wl
Then make sure you black list b43 and ssb in your rc.conf file and add wl to your modules in your rc.conf and if you are going to be using encryption then also add lib80211_crypt_tkip.

  • Wireless Drivers... Error :/

Hello all!!!. I Was able to Install a Full Arch Linux Install including a Full GUI (GNOME). Now i'm installing this on a MacBook Pro so this is INTEL hardware. I'm running the x86_64 version. Now im trying to install my Wireless drivers (Broadcom BCM312) Now i was able to compile and install YAY!. Using Makepkg and Pacman install method. Now following this guide to install http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_BCM4312 . I Now to do these following commads
    # modprobe lib80211_crypt_tkip
    # modprobe wl
    # insmod /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/wl.ko
Now when i do this command i get the following error in Terminal: WARNING: /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf line 5: ignoring bad line starting with 'MODULES=(!snd_pcsp). Im getting this for "modprobe lib80211_crypt_tkip"
now when i do this command i get the following error in Terminal: WARNING: /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf line 5: ignoring bad line starting with 'MODULES=(!snd_pcsp)'. Im Getting this for "modprobe wl"
and Last but not least when i do this command i get the Follow error in Terminal: insmod: error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/wl.ko': -1 File exists. And im getting this for "insmod /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/wl.ko". Please assist!
Thanks! And this is my Offical first post in Arch Linux Forums ::)

Correct - no bumping. See here for details on this and other guidelines for using this forum.
Re your issue - the first message is quite clear IMO. Line 5 of your modprobe.conf is not in the correct format i.e. it's a bad line, so modprobe is ignoring it. It also says it is a warning, not an error. If you want it to go away, fix line 5.
The second message is an error, due to a mistake on that wiki page. Use either modprobe or insmod (preferably modprobe) to load the wl driver, but not both.

  • Broadcom 4311 Not Working w/ Custom Kernel v2.6.27

Cannot get Broadcom 4311 to work with my custom linux kernel 2.6.27. The scenario is that it is properly installed and works with Arch's stock kernel and the vanilla kernel.
As my computer boots, I get the error message:
    :: Loading standard ACPI modules
    FATAL: Module b43 not found
I know I don't have it as a module (I wanted it to be in the kernel), but I tried it anyhow, lol.

I have no idea what this means nor does my friend Google. :\

    Returns nothing.
    $ lspci | grep Broadcom

Just as proof that it is a broadcom.

And as you can see, wlan0 doesn't exist anymore.
I thought all I needed for my wireless/broadcom to work (in my kernel) is:
Device Drivers ---> Network device support ---> Wireless LAN
    [*] Wireless LAN (pre-802.11)
    [*] Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11)
    <*>Broadcom 43xx wireless support (mac80211 stack)
    Networking support ---> Wireless
    <*> Generic IEEE 802.11 Networking Stack (mac80211)
<*>Generic IEEE 802.11 Networking Stack (DEPRECATED)
    <*>    IEEE 802.11 WEP encryption (802.1x)
    <*>    IEEE 802.11i CCMP support
    <*>    IEEE 80.211i TKIP encryption
    I am not using initrd.
Question: Any idea what I am missing?
I'll be going through some trail-and-error runs for now.

Well, it's still not working. I tried just taking parts from the working kernel and replacing the parts of my custom kernel under wirelss, but that didn't do the trick. I am probably going to copy anything related to PCI and IO Mapping next do the BAR collision and b43-pci-bridge error I am getting and see if that works.

  • B43 won't recognise Broadcom 4312 wireless card

I've had a Dell XPS M1530 laptop for a few weeks now. It's got a Dell 1395 wireless card, which is actually a disguised Broadcom 4312 card.
    lspci recognises it as such:
    [sander@lappy686 ~]$ lspci | grep -i broadcom
    0b:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
The card works fine with the properietary broadcom-wl drivers. I'm using these right now, in fact.
However, I'd like to use b43 if at all possible, because:
    - b43 supports monitor mode;
    - broadcom-wl drivers are proprietary, whereas the b43 ones are open.
I have followed the guide on the wiki to extract the firmware from the proprietary drivers:
    [sander@lappy686 ~]$ sudo ls /lib/firmware/b43/
    a0g0bsinitvals4.fw a0g0initvals9.fw a0g1initvals5.fw b0g0bsinitvals9.fw lp0bsinitvals13.fw lp0initvals15.fw pcm5.fw ucode4.fw
    a0g0bsinitvals5.fw a0g1bsinitvals13.fw a0g1initvals9.fw b0g0initvals13.fw lp0bsinitvals14.fw n0absinitvals11.fw ucode11.fw ucode5.fw
    a0g0bsinitvals9.fw a0g1bsinitvals5.fw b0g0bsinitvals13.fw b0g0initvals4.fw lp0bsinitvals15.fw n0bsinitvals11.fw ucode13.fw ucode9.fw
    a0g0initvals4.fw a0g1bsinitvals9.fw b0g0bsinitvals4.fw b0g0initvals5.fw lp0initvals13.fw n0initvals11.fw ucode14.fw
    a0g0initvals5.fw a0g1initvals13.fw b0g0bsinitvals5.fw b0g0initvals9.fw lp0initvals14.fw pcm4.fw ucode15.fw
when I insert the b43 module (sudo modprobe b43), the following shows up in /var/log/everything.log:
    Nov 7 20:58:36 lappy686 Broadcom 43xx driver loaded [ Features: PMLR, Firmware-ID: FW13 ]
... and nothing more. I was told that this isn't normal
The actual problem is that no network interface shows up in ifconfig / iwconfig. The only ones that are there are lo and eth0 (wired ethernet). When I use broadcom-wl, the wireless interface shows up as "eth1".
I have also tried to extract the firmware from some older versions of the driver, but the same thing happens. What's curious is that it'll still say "Firmware-ID: FW13" in /var/log/everything.log...
So, anybody have any clues? I guess it's not that urgent, but it sucks that I have to use a  proprietary driver. The only other option I haven't tried is ndiswrapper, and frankly, I'm not sure I want to

    On my machine:
    lspci | grep -i broadcom
    03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX (rev 02)
0b:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01)
    dmesg | grep -i broadcom
    b43-phy0: Broadcom 4311 WLAN found
    Broadcom 43xx driver loaded [ Features: PMLR, Firmware-ID: FW13 ]
    grep MODULES /etc/rc.conf
    MODULES=(b43 !b44 !pcspkr !snd_pcsp)
I wanted to look at the MODULES section on your machine because, indeed, I was planning to suggest something along the lines of "b43 !wl". Now I suppose that it would not work (as you seem to have already tried it).

  • Wireless Adapter Error 10 when CSM Support Disabled

After a motherboard replacement, my Thinkpad Yoga was returned with CSM Support enabled, causing a legacy bios and windows splash screen to appear.
I went into the bios and disabled CSM support to bring back the default black Lenovo boot up screen, but now when windows loads the Wireless Card reports an Error Code 10. I have tried updating to every driver and even refreshed windows to no avail.

I later disabled Broadcom Virtual Wireless Adapter and found that I could still use WiFi so I went on and upgraded to Windows 10 anyway. Broadcom Virtual Wireless Adapter does come off the list on Device Manger but I can still use WiFi regardless.

I donwgraded my notebook from windows 8.1 to windows 7 64 bit and now I cannot install drivers to use wifi (that, according to hp site should be sp68506 and sp68427). When I opened them to install they close and no installation is performed. I tried to install a lot of other notebook drivers (also broadcom 43142 wireless lan adapter drivers, that should be my network card), but I cannot make  wifi work.

Heres my specs. Windows XP SP3, using boot camp, newest boot camp update.
Issue: My wireless has not performed properly since my purchase. My connection is intermitant, constantly disconnecting. Sometimes I'll be fine for days, other times I disconnect 4 - 5 times within a minute. I thought it was my router or something but my OSX side works perfect, along with other hardware. I also started getting Blue Screens of Death related directly to the driver for my Broadcom 4238 wireless adapter. This seems to be a common unsolved problem, and I have searched the internet for a possible fix. I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a solution or Apple has done anything about this. I've called Apple but they seem to not know boot camp even exists.

  • Trying to patch my wireless drivers, kernal issues.

Im trying to patch my wireless drivers while following http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=compat-wireless
Now heres what my issue is, in the make file it looks for my directory "/usr/src/linux-3.8.*-1-ARCH", it uses "uname -a" to do so, but what ive ran into is that that folder is alway 1 number ahead of my actual kernel version.
    EX:
    uname -a shows me:
    3.8.5-1-ARCH
While the only folder i have in /usr/src is:
    /usr/src/linux-3.8.6-1-ARCH/
So its 6-1 when in reality my kernal is 5-1.
I went in and manually edited that since i knew that would be no biggie, then when i ran "make" as normal user it came up with this new error:
    make[3]: *** [/home/dyzaster/Downloads/compat-wireless-3.6.8-1/drivers/bcma/main.o] Error 1
    make[2]: *** [/home/dyzaster/Downloads/compat-wireless-3.6.8-1/drivers/bcma] Error 2
    make[1]: *** [_module_/home/dyzaster/Downloads/compat-wireless-3.6.8-1] Error 2
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-3.8.6-1-ARCH'
    make: *** [modules] Error 2
So with this thread i have 2 questions, first off, is it normal for the folder and kernel version to be off like that? Im assuming no, and if not then how do i fix that? And most importantly what is this error and what do i do at this point?
Thank you for any and all feedback

You probably didn't paste the line which has the actual error.
The page you linked to is for older kernels, it links to http://drvbp1.linux-foundation.org/~mcg … t-drivers/, which has stuff for the 3.8 kernel.
There are some compat-drivers packages in AUR.
What patch(es) are you trying to apply?
I need to patch 2 drivers:
rtl8192cu (Which is a USB Dongle)
    and
iwlwifi (Build in Athros wifi card+Bluetooth)
And i would rather use source for this then use the AUR, just to make sure its correct.
I dont see 3.8.6-1 there, because im sure you know more then i do about the kernel, which version should i use? "compat-drivers-3.8-1", or "compat-drivers-3.8-1-u"?

  • Need wireless drivers for Satellite A100-259

    Hi
Had to reformat my daughters laptop (A100-259 PSAA2) due to virus issues and am in the process of rebuilding it. Almost there but can't seem to get the wireless bit to work. Nothing appears in the system tray even when it's switched on (little switch on the right has the light on). I assume because i've reinstalled XP that i need to reinstall the wireless drivers but i can't seem to find them on the toshiba web site (http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK). It only shows the Atheros management utility.
Any advice would be greatly appreciate especially as i'm pretty new to this kind of stuff and she has lost the manual that came with the laptop.
    many thanks

    Hi!
I dont know why no WLAN drivers are available for this A100 model and Windows XP but you can search for an other A100 model (for example Satellite A100 PSAA8).
Then you will find an Atheros WLAN driver for Windows XP and it should also work.
    Bye

  • HP all in one ms237 cant get wireless drivers to work

Hi i have a HP all in one PC, ive had this PC for a very long time, we upgraded to windows 8 and i dont remember how but i did manage to get wireless drivers on it at one point. the PC's hard drive went out and so i bought a new one and re-installed windows 8 (64 bit) onto it and now i cant get wireless drivers to get installed on it. I tried running the drivers with windows 7 compatability but no dice. I also tried different versions of the driver and still no luck, device manager will see the wireless card but says its not working properly (driver issue) the weird thing is that when i uninstall the drivers for it i can see the adapter in adpater settings, however when i install newer drivers and it goes back to being non existent lol. Any ideas?

    Hello @rapid3642,
I understand that you are having issues getting your wireless to work on your HP Pavilion All-in-One MS237 Desktop PC running Windows 8. As you probably have already figured out there are no Windows 8 drivers for your computer. I can see why you would have issues installing Windows 7 drivers on a Windows 8 computer. What you probably did initially was upgrade your Windows 7 to Windows 8 with the driver already installed. Unlike a new Windows 8 installation where you need to install the drivers an upgrade will already have drivers installed and the operating system is simply replacing what is needed without having to go through the installation process.
I would recommend that you either install your original Windows 7 and then upgrade to Windows 8 or you may want to look at replacing the 802.11 b/g/n PCI express wireless half-length mini card with one that is compatible with Windows 8.
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Scientific Linux On G50 Laptop No Wireless Drivers

I bought a brand new G50 laptop with a core i5 intel processor for my business as I do with every computer I installed scientific linux and the wireless drivers aren't available.
I need to find some that will work in a bad way.

    Maybe try System76: http://system76.com/index.php?cPath=28
I think they use open source drivers for everything, except the ones with Nvidia cards that probably use the closed source Nvidia drivers (not a problem on Arch obviously). I've heard a lot of good things about System76, and they even sent me free Ubuntu stickers
EDIT: Looks like they use "Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100" for wireless, at least on the one that I checked. Here's more info: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wir … 000-series The firmware it talks about I belive is available on the Install CD as long as you tell it to install, or of course with pacman (duh).
    Look at the "Windows" button

  • Installing Wireless Drivers

Ok I am having the hardest time wrapping my head around Installing a Wireless Driver for my system. I have a Broadcom BCM4312 Wireless Card. This would fall under me getting the broadcom-wl driver. This is where I have no idea what I am doing. I came from ubuntu, which is my main problem, for I always used their driver installer. So really I have never installed a driver from scratch before (I DO KNOW that I have to compile it and then change the /etc/rc.conf file). Just for some reason I can't seem to get this to work on my system, and yes I have read the manual (the beginners guide, the wireless wiki page which linked me to the broadcom wireless page).
So basically How to you install the driver? (If you can please show the commands or a website I can see the commands on)
(also to show that I am asking for the right wireless driver)
    0b:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)

I followed the guide and got my wireless going ok... but what I found even easier was using ArchBang. It comes with wicd as the network manager.
My process was Install from disc, download b43 AUR package (I have to use b43 for old hardware), makepkg and install, connect with wicd-curses to wireless and setup wired to be default if it's plugged in.
Depending on which method of network management you use you will need different settings in your config (ie. disable networkmanager if you are using wicd etc) - After having set things up in ArchBang and seeing network stuff I wasn't used to (ie... avoiding network manager and network profiles etc) it all started to make a bit more sense to me.
Also, if you are after some more help... provide a bit more info Does your wifi show up in lspci? Are the required modules loaded? Does it require firmware be installed? If you are using a graphical network manager, does it see your connection at all?

  • Is there an installation ISO with preloaded wireless drivers?

I have no access to cabled networking right now, and I want to install Arch.

The installation ISO has a standard Arch kernel, which includes many wireless drivers.  But if you need an additional driver that is ot provided by the kernel, you will need to build it yourself.
Maybe instead of just indicating that you have no networking, it would be better to actually indicate what kinds of problems you are having, including what kind of hardware you have, whether you have found that it is supported by Linux or not, and whether this hardware is actually detected in a Linux environment.
There is a saying about there never being bad questions, but I have to clarify that there can certainly be very poorly formatted questions.  Around here, if you want help, you need to be much much more explicit and show that you've taken some initiative in trying to find some information yourself.
