Brochures and bleeds

Hey yo,
Please please please help - I'm due to make a multi-page A4 brochure with artwork on A3 paper folded. All the artwork obtained by advertisers are of sizes A4, A5, and A6 have 3mm bleeds - understandable.
However when I want to place all 4 A6 designs onto one page for example, the bleeds overlap in the center (I am currently just opening the pdf into illustrator drag and drop onto workarea). Is there a simple trick to removing the bleeds or a general consensus amongst designers in how bleeds are dealt with / why they're requested when combining on a single page? All artworked submitted is in pdf format and without removing manually in PS (which may effect the original bleed area) I'm stumped.
Owh

Sounds like a job better suited for Indesign.
Anywho.. You can create a clipping mask to hide the extra bleeds you don't need. Simply draw a rectangle that encompasses the area you want to show, then select the artwork and the rectangle and choose Object > Make > Clipping Mask.

  • Changing the Color of Crop and Bleed Marks from Registration to Black

    Hello all,
    I have been searching the web and have tried numerous things but I can't seem to solve this problem.  In InDesign crop marks and bleed marks are printed in "Registration" color.  I understand why that is needed for plate printing.  However I am laser printing and I need those marks to be in "Black" color.  I have tried to edit the cropmark script by changing "Registration" to "Black" on the line with myRegColor.  I have tried changing the printer setting to "Pure Black".  However I can't get the crop and bleed marks to print in "Black".   I have been on various websites and while there are people asking the question I haven't found a answer that works.  I have searched this community as well but haven't found an answer that I understand.  Before I manually make crop marks I want to make sure I am not missing something completely obvious.
    With laser printing there is a different charge for color and B&W.  The fact that the crop marks are coming in as color and not black means B&W pages are counted as color in the printing cost.  I have tested the same docuement (which was just one page full of sample black text) with and without crop/bleed marks.  When the document is printed without the marks the printer clicks as a B&W page.  When it is printed with the marks the printer click as a color page.
    I am creating the doc in InDesign and exporting to Acrobat for printing.  I am using Creative Cloud so I think I have the most up to date version of InDesign.
    Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.
    -TS

    With CS6 or later you can export to grayscale and in that case the crops will be black only. Like this:
    You should set your Appearance of Black to Rich black otherwise 100% black CMYK might export to something less than 100% grayscale. When you check the PDF in Acrobat set the simulation profile to the grayscale profile you export to.

    Which is better software for brochures and PDF forms ? Photoshop or InDesign ? and why ?

    If you are going to be making a lot of brochures, with photos, you probably want both. Photoshop to edit the photos, and InDesign to assemble and layout images with text.

  • Slug and bleed print fine from Acrobat 9.5.3 but not Acrobat 9.5.4

    Our creative department is having issues printing slugs from Acrobat.

    There are NO issues printing form Acrobat Pro 9.5.3.
    Ther ARE issues printing from Arobat Pro 9.5.4.
    The slug and bleed shows up in the print preview screen but does NOT print.
    Does anyone have any advice or solutions?
    Thanks!

    Did you ever figure this out? One day I was printing slugs a few days later acrobat was not printing them, even though they show in the preview. Help?

  • How to set page size and bleed

    Hi all,
    First of all, I am really a totally newbie for Indesign. My knowledge of Indesign is zero.
    Recently my design send me a artwork but he is missing now. I need to do some modify for printing but I really got no idea what should I do.
    The printing manufacturer request me to set my page as 303mm x 216mm, however my page size now is 297mm x 210mm. After that they need me to add bleed for them as well.
    So any expert here could guide me step by step what should I do?
    I tried myself to go "Explore" > "save" > then change the value of "page size" to 303mm x 216 mm. Then go "Marks and Bleed" > "tick "Bleed" and choose value (top:3mm, bottom:3mm, inside:3mm, outside:3mm)
    However, the result come out my page size is much bigger than 320+mm and 230+mm
    Why? What should I do?

    InDesign is a pretty complex application to learn on your own.
    As soon as possible, acquire a good book on InDesign. My recommendation for beginners is Sandee Cohen's "InDesign QuickStart Guide." There are editions for different versions for InDesign. Less than $20.

  • InDesign CC 2014 Marks and Bleeds Issue

    Hello Everyone,
    So I'm trying to export this InDesign file into a PDF with the usual crops/marks/bleeds that I always use, but for some reason this time it isn't working right. I have my bleed settings to .125, my slug is at 0, my images have been dragged past the red crop line on the design file, but for some reason the crop marks are in the white outline area instead of inside the bleed like they're supposed to be. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong here? This ad is due pretty soon so I would be most appreciative for quick replies!
    Thanks,
    Krystin

    I set the export using document bleed settings. Below are images of the design file itself, my document setup, and my marks and bleeds settings in my export box. Thank you for all your help!

  • How to markup a layout so each area is exported as a different page on the pdf using the crop and bleeds

    Hi, I work in the sign industry and I am looking at a way to streamline our preprint setup for artworks
    the issue is that we will get an artwork that is 6m x 2m. This is to big to do in one print so we will chop it into 2-3 pieces and then print those.
    this is currently done by laying out the full artwork in indesign then exporting it as a pdf. this pdf is then imported into illustrator where we will manually cutup the artwork using clipping masks (it has to be manual due to cuts in the artwork needing to managed so it doesn't go though text, ext).
    ideally I would like to lay it out in indesign then markup this layout with boxes which show the areas to be cut out. then we I export I'd like indesign to export each box as its own pdf(or pages in one pdf) with cut marks and bleeds.
    is this possible in indesign using say the slice tool? (the slice tool seems to be for html elements)
    any help or suggest would be most welcome
    Kind regards
    Gareth

    Hello gareth, not sure if the info' below will be of use, but I will give it a go.
    Try this…
    (I am using Indesign CS5.5)
    1. Create your desired page size.
    2. Then create 2 or 3 more pages
    3. Open the pages window (from top menu - window - pages)
    4. (fig 1) From the pages menu click top right down arrow to get the menu and uncheck ‘Allow Document Pages to Shuffle’.
    5. (fig 2) From the pages menu, drag page 2 and 3 next to page 1, see fig 3 for result.
    6. (fig 4) Place text/image across the pages you have created then save as a Pdf.

  • How to set value for trim and bleed using jsx script?

    I have tried using bleedoffsetRect but somehow it is not working. Can anybody please help me on how to set value for trim and bleed using jsx script? Any example will be highly appreciated.
    Following is the code I am trying with:
    var _saveName = new File ( root_path +_strFileName+".pdf");
        var _saveOpts = new PDFSaveOptions();
        _saveOpts.printerResolution = 300;
        var bleedarray = new Array();
         bleedarray[0] =9.00;
         bleedarray[1]=9.00;
         bleedarray[2]=9.00;
         bleedarray[3]=9.00;
        _saveOpts.bleedOffsetRect = bleedarray;

    I would expect although I've not actually tried this for the bleed off set box to be larger than the artbaord and the first two values to be negative or 0…
    var bleedarray = new Array(-9,-9,artboard.width+9,artboard.height+9);
    Where 'artboard.width' & 'artboard.height' you will have calculated from your file. An Array(9,9,9,9); would not constitute any boxes bounds.

  • Basic printing questions with safe zones, trim lines and bleeds

    I am working with a file that has safe zones, trim lines and bleeds. If I place something that touches the outer edges of the document at the bleed zone, how will it display if there is a trim line before it? Won't it be trimmed anyways?
    Thanks.

    Consider the bleed a precautionary measure in the case of registration variance when cutting the actual printed product.
    So it should be cut off, but it may actually become visible (partially).

  • Missing margin and bleed lines in latest indesign version release

    As soon as I updated to the latest version of InDesign CC my margin and bleed lines disappeared
    I've tried just about everything over several sessions and nothing seems to get them back. I really need them back soon so I can complete the projects I am working on.
    Anyone know what might be going on here?
    Any insight much appreciated!

    Thanks for the reply Peter I appreciate you taking the time.
    It was a case of not seeing what was under my nose! I had it in preview mode - can't believe I missed that one.

  • Specify trim size, live area and bleed in Pages

    How do I using Pages specify trim size, live area and bleed for 1/2 page print advert?

    Pages doesn't have those.
    You'll have to construct your own oversize sheet size with hand drawn trim marks, bleed etc.
    Pages is not a Pro app. Getting adequate resolution, ink coverage, color management etc is not easy either.

  • Illustrator 10: Marks and Bleeds

    I'm using illustrator 10 to design some bumper stickers. To prepare for printing, the print company I'm using told me to expand the background at least 1/16 of an inch outside the setup box. Then when I'm saving the file to PDF format (save as), I was told to go to the marks and bleeds window on the settings panel and enter .0625 in the top, bottom, left, and right boxes. I can expand the background, but I don't see the marks and bleeds window when I'm saving to PDF? Am I missing something? I know there's a marks and bleeds window in CS3. If there's not one in Illustrator 10, how can I do accomplish what the printer wants? Thanks..

    Thanks a lot for your reply but unfortunately the native files are

    If the native file is InDesign then in the Export -> PDF dialog, you will
    find a tab on the left named Marks and Bleeds. Check the boxes for the
    marks you require. The exported PDF will display all marks according to
    the parameters you assigned in InDesign. You could also save the settings
    as a new preset if the setting are used constantly. Illustrator CS4 too
    has a similar functionality.

    As far as I know Illustrator CS3 is a bit more diificult as on export
    cropmarks are assigned to the artboard size and bleeds marks have to
    inserted manually. Very tedious work until the upgrade to CS4.

    I'm sure heaps of people would appreciate a solution to inserting bleed
    marks in Illustrator CS3.

  • Trim and bleed marks

    I created my file in Photoshop but then I had to transfer it to Illustrator to create trim and bleed marks. I managed to add crop marks by creating a rectangle, placing it in the middle of my picture and selecting object/crop area/create.
    However, when I try converting my file to PDF, none of my marks can be seen. I also tried setting everything up in print dialog box but nothing works. I am creating a file for commercial printing. I am using Photoshop and Illustrator CS3. I really need help with this. Any ideas on how to solve it would be great!!!
    Thank you!

    Thanks. I did try it the other way as well, but then my crop marks show out of artboard for some reason and I need to adjust them manually, hence changing the trim size, which I don't want. If I don't adjust them to appear on artboard then they don't show in PDF. That happens when I use the rectangle in trim size.
    However, when I only use the command that you mentioned without creating a rectangle first then my crop marks show in the middle of my artboard, in other words, if it was to be trimmed to the right size, the crop marks would be seen on the printout after trimming. I hope this makes sense, but I've been trying to do this for two days now and I am losing my mind.

    Zabanya,
    One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the (PDF contents, if any, of the) corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way.
    Here are some websites where you can see whether it can rescue the actual file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,

    As far as I remember, the first one is for Win and the second one is for Mac, while the third one should be for both.

  • Marks And Bleeds Not Working

    Hi,
    I am running Mac OSX 10.4.11, Adobe Acrobat CS3, and have a Canon Pro 9000 printer. When I go to set up a document to print and click the advanced button to get to the advanced print setup screen, I then click on marks and bleeds, but the check boxes are grayed out so I cannot select the trim marks option. I could in my version of Acrobat Pro CS1.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Paul

    Hi Jon,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Is the PDFMark data new to the CS3? I could use the trim marks in the CS1 version of Acrobat. Also, when I export to PDF from Quark, I export to Acrobat version 5. Do you think if I exported to a higher version I could get the bleed marks to work?
    Thanks again for your help,
    Paul
