Broken 8pin cable tip

I just bought the new iPhone 5S and the 8 pin cable tip broke. Does the apple store replace cable for free if I just got them 3 weeks ago.  All my previous cables never broke but I find the 8 pin cable tip faulty.
Thanks

  • My TV was broken after cable connect and TV channel searching

My Thoshiba 40U TV does not turn on after I received from 1st owner and repair shop.
I checked many possible causions ( Overcurrent, damage during delivery, etc.)
I found that My TV was broken after cable connect and TV channel searching.
The repair shop gave up and suggested to refund money.
Maybe I have to buy new one.
I want to know why the TV is broken. Have you heard that TV is broken after TV channel searching?

  • Inserted broken firewire cable - BURNED PORT _ HELP!

I inserted a broken firewire cable, unbeknownst to me of course, and sat back to network two computers, when I smelled a metallic burning aroma and quickly unplugged the cable. I now have no firewire port. Any suggestions on not having to purchase a new motherboard? Thanks in advance.

An RS-232 is something else. A Firewire port is technically an IEEE 1394, but practically nobody calls it that since Apple stopped enforcing the "Firewire" trademark.
    Okay, totally off-topic story.
Back in the day, the absolute state-of-the-art for real-time compositing was a machine called an Inferno. It ran on an SGI Onyx 2 system, which was a purple computer about six feet tall. It ran on 220-volt power, like your dryer uses, and it required two circuits just to turn on. Those kinds of power connections aren't all that common, so it wasn't unusual to have to wire them up ourselves off the main bus in the equipment room. Technically that's the kind of thing an electrician should do, but really it's no more complicated than changing a light bulb, so it's no big deal.
A 220-volt plug has three wires: two hot wires and a ground. Well, one time I was waaaay too sleepy, and I wired one of the hots up to the ground terminal in the plug. The Onyx was connected to an RS-232 system console — a serial port like the deck-control port on the back of a VTR, but slightly different — and that console was plugged into a regular three-pronged wall outlet.
Well, when I turned everything on, power shorted from the hot lead of the 220V outlet +through the serial cable+ and into the console, and out the console's ground wire back into the wall again.
Surprisingly, everything in the loop was fine except for the RS-232 connector on the back of the computer. The resistance of the current running through it generated so much heat that it melted a couple of the pins and fused the plastic cover of the cable to the back of the computer. Hooo, what a stench.
Also, the repair bill was about $60,000.
That's when I learned not to screw around with electricity when you're tired and in a hurry.

  • Broken USB cable

My 30-pin to USB cable is frayed. Normally I'd use self-service to order a new cable and send my broken one back, but the new self-service doesn't offer the USB cable as a replaceable item (only optional accessories, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me). Does anyone know how to order a replacement cable? Or will I have to call Apple...

My iPad cable has also broken in exactly the same place as my iPhone cable, and it's replacement. My iPad cable is less than a year old and will be contacting them for a replacement ...... IF I can find an address or email which doesnt exist on their website.  Cables don't seem to be listed and I'm certainly NOT paying for yet another.
Anyone know how to contact them?

  • Broken screen cable

I think my screen cable might be broken. My display does this when moved slightly:
If so, how much would this sort of thing cost to repair?

    Hi SK1215,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like moving the screen causes the problem. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
Apple - Support - Service Answer Center
    What does repair service cost?
Apple’s service fees depend on your coverage under warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan:
There’s no charge if the repair is for a defect covered by Apple’s One Year Limited Warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan (for exclusions, see “About Apple’s One Year Limited Warranty” above)
Out-of-warranty service may be available for your Mac notebook for a fee, including repair service for accidental damage
In certain rare cases, if we examine your Mac notebook and determines that it doesn’t require service, we may charge you a diagnostic fee.

  • Broken dock cables - design issue?

I have multiple Apple devices in my family of Mum, Dad and four children - 2 x iPhone 3GS, 3 x Ipod, 1 x iPad2.
In every case, the Apple dock/charge cable has frayed and broken at the 30 pin end. If it was an isolated occurrence than maybe I would put it down to bad luck but six cables failing in exactly the same place indicates it is a design flaw.
As these cables cost around $25 each - that would be nearly AUS$150 in total - to replace from Apple I would like to know if others have had similar experience and whether Apple assists with replacing faulty cables.
We are down to charging/syncing six devices with a single aftermarket cable.

Sorry Peter, but I don't believe it is misuse by the operator. If it was confined to one user maybe misuse could be the explanation - as I said six cables from six devices operated by six different people. I personally am extremely careful with cables etc on all my equipment.
The Apple cables flex at the point where the cable enters the 30 plug, the rubber reinforcement degrades and tears then the insulation breaks down and the shielding frays - eventually they stop working - all at the same point and regardless of user.
Curious that my local store has rows of replacement cables if they never break. Maybe other people lose an awful lot of them.
    Does anyone have similar experience?
    Jim

  • Another broken usb cable!

I have an iphone 5 and for about the 4th or 5th time i have a usb cable that is no longer working. They are pretty expensive considering what they actually are. Any recommendations for a cheaper option that actually works and wont affect my phone?

You must be very careless with your cables.  I have multiple iDevices and have never had a cable issue.  Of course, I don't yank on the cords or kink them.
BTW, the cables have the same warranty as the iDevice with which it came.  Is there a reason you didn't bring the broken cable back to Apple?  If a manufacturing defect was detected (and not user abuse, which I suspect is the case here), your cable would be replaced under warranty.

  • Broken coax cable from circuit board to Airport Extreme

I picked up this 1.25Ghz-DP/1024MB/FW800 off the internet knowing that it did not come with either the Airport Extreme or the Bluetooth (1.1) module. No big deal, since I have an AE and would be looking for the BT Module. To my surprise, its "AE/Bluetooth-ready" status was compromised by the removal of the AE card using a pair of side cutters (or some other crude cutting tool), leaving a frizzy antenna cable running back down into the space between the chassis and the case. It would appear that the BT antenna is intact, for what it is worth.
I know there would be some challenges, but I am wondering if the part is available that includes the circuit board, the antenna, and the antenna coax leading from the circuit board back to the connector on the AE. Or maybe the part numbers?
I plan to use this for an older version Digidesign's Pro Tools, so I am going to remove the two four-port cards (one FW, one USB) and replace them with the PT Mix Core and Farm(s). I would prefer not to go with the USB dongle, since I know there can be flakiness with USB and PT. My alternative to taking the plunge with a soldering iron and some parts would be to get an AEBS nearby and connecting with ethernet.
The computer sees the card in System profiler, but without the antenna fully deployed, it fires blanks. Are the resources for the connector and cable that could be put together to paste it back in place or better yet, a place to get the complete unit to change it out. I guess I would be looking for the BT module, too as long as I am at it, but that is not a critical issue.
    Thanks---Dave Iverson

    Hi Dave,
Here is a third-party external extension antenna that might replace the existing stub:
    http://www.macwireless.com/html/products/antennas_boosters/whips.php
Installation in a G4 mini-tower is easy; you only need to remove a PCI slot cover on the back to run the cable outside the box. I have no personal experience with this; just something I found in searching after I read your post.
    Danny,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Looks like the above product should work for an iMac. Check the list of instructions on the page I linked to see if they list your computer. I suspect you have to take something apart to run the cable. Also check the iMac G5 forums to see if someone there has already figured it out for that model. The iMac G5 hardware is nothing like the G4 mini-towers that are the subject of this forum area, so your chances of getting the right answer for your specific computer are better in the other forum I linked.
If you are having trouble figuring out how to start your own thread (so many people do that I must ask), see this Apple info:

  • Broken data cable on X-Fi Fatal

Hi, I had to return my motherboard today (faulty bios) and when I was trying to pull the li'vedri've cable off the soundcard it came away from the connector, is it possible to order a replacement cable from the online shop or is there another possible supply point?
I did a search and saw that someone mentioned a floppy cable works, is this confirmed? Don't want to stick one in only to break the pins.Message Edited by djsubterrain on 08-28-2006 04:32 PM

You should be able to get a replacement from CL or you can buy an after market IDE cable but you want one with all fourty pin holes open, not keyed which means one pin hole is blocked to make sure its installed right. Im not sure a floppy version would work as usually there are a cpl wires twisted on all the ones Ive seen.
These guys at least used to sell a rounded one you might give them a try. You might need to email them tho as I lost my link to the cable but Im sure they know which one Im talking about.

  • What can I do to get my broken lighting cable replaced (FOR FREE)

I'm not paying apple for a cable with no durability.
What are my options... other than getting a galaxy

Before you get all pissy, know that the lightning cable that comes with your device has the same warranty as the device itself.  All iPhone 5's are still under warranty.  Bring your lightning cable to your closest Apple store (leave your attitude at home) and if it's determined that the cable is faulty and not related to user abuse, it will be exchanged free of charge.

  • Broken ribbon cable on Macbook Pro 17-inch

Today I tried to change my harddrive on my Macbook Pro. But somehow my brain disconnected for a quarter of a second and I broke the black connector attached to the ribbon cable connected to the keýboard and touch pad.
What are my option? Can I get a new cable or do the whole top part has be changed? Can I get spare parts from Apple? Or do I need to send it in?
Kind regards, the very sad Mac owner.

Can I get spare parts from Apple?
Call them up & ask them.
As for doing self repair try the Do-It-Yourself Laptop Repair website.
You can always send it in to Apple or an AASP but you will need to pay out of pocket since you caused the damage. Warranty does not cover self inflicted accidents.

  • Broken SATA cable or logic board?

    Hi.
Today I received my replaced intel 520 series harddisk (I sent one in, because I thought it was dead).
Today, this new SSD didn't show up in disk utilities, although it shows up on another laptop (booting into linux dvd).
I've placed the new SSD in the maindrive of my MacBook Pro 13" early 2011, and i've placed my old HDD in an obtibay in the superdrive's place. The HDD works fine, and i've installed the system onto there, since i can't use my SSD.
Could this be a dead SSD (remember, it showed in Linux), a dead SATA-cable (which i could fix), or a dead logic board connector (which i don't have the balls to fix)?
    Regards, Magnus.

No the SSD is more then like OK. the problem is the Optical bay on your model Mac doesn't support the SATA 3 specs, 6GBs. Even if it says it does in the Specifications Apple has limited it. your not the only person that has had problems getting a SATA 3 SSD to work in the optical bay of a Mac notebook.
But Yes the main bay cable is bad. Once you replace that cable the SSD should work in the main bay without problem.
Check with Intel for an updated firmware for that SSD. Problem with that is I don't think they have a way to update it on a Mac. You would need a Windows PC as the firmware is included in the Intel SSD Toolbox program.
