Broken access to podcast category?

My iTunes Music Store won't open the podcast list for sub category "Spirituality" in "Religion and Spirituality." I'm using iTunes version 6.0.2.
Is the link broken?

Today its all working fine. I sent a message to iTunes and perhaps they fixed it.

  • Can no longer access my podcasts

Until about three or four days ago, I had no trouble listening to my podcasts. Now, however, whenever I click on the Music icon and then choose "Podcasts", it closes out and goes back to my home screen. I've tried doing a reset by holding down the power button and home button, but this did not help. I have the latest software version installed, iOS 5.1. I don't sync podcasts from my computer; I download them directly to my iPod over my wifi network. I downloaded a couple of new podcasts today, thinking perhaps the problem was that my old ones got deleted somehow. When the new podcasts were finished downloading, I still had the same problem, and I can't find the new podcasts.
    Can anyone offer any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Using the Windows link you provided, I was able to get iTunes to recognize my iPod (it turns out the Apple Mobile Device Service wasn't running). I still couldn't access the podcasts on my iPod at first, but then I clicked the "Sync" button in iTunes, and that somehow changed the menu configurations on the iPod back to what they were before and I was able to access my podcasts again. I didn't even need to do a restore!
I'm not really sure what the sync did, because it didn't sync over my podcasts from my computer, which is what I assumed it would do. I've been downloading podcasts via wifi directly onto the iPod. If I instead subscribed to the podcasts on my computer and then synced them to my iPod would it erase the podcasts that are already on the iPod the first time I sync? One more question: There isn't a way to subscribe to podcasts on the iPod so they automatically download to it, is there?
Thanks so much for your help!

  • Podcast category for iPod Touch does not show in iTunes

When connecting my iPod Touch to iTunes, the "Podcasts" category no longer appears in the sidebar under "Devices". The category DOES appear under the Library portion of the sidebar, however. I prefer to manage and sync my podcasts manually within iTunes, but I now have no way of removing old podcasts from my iPod.
I'm running iTunes 10.0.1.22 under Windows XP and my iPod Touch 3rd generation is running iOS 4.0.

  • Itunes crashes when I try to access the podcast folder

I keep having a problem with accessing the podcast folder for my iPod Touch. I can access all of the other folders with no problem. As soon as I click on the podcast folder, a pop-up window appears telling that "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I do click the "send error report" but this is maddening. It shuts down iTunes altogether. Any ideas? Thanks!

That one often seems to be due to an issue with a damaged podcast. Tracking down which podcast (or podcasts) is causing the grief can be a bit of a trial though. Jim's technique from the following post looks about the best way of doing it that I've seen:

  • No access on podcast share from Windows clients

    Hello together!
I have the following scenatio at home:
    * 1 Server with Windows 2008 R2 with logged in user and iTunes running (everything is shared)
    * 1 Laptop with Windows 7 x64 & iTunes
    * 1 Desktop with Windows 7 x86 & iTunes
    * 1 Macbook with Mac OS X Leopard & iTunes
With this constellation I want to have access to my iTunes library located on the server from all other computer. With the MacBook this funktions without any problem to access everything (podcasts too).
On both Windows computer the directory pocasts is invisible. I can find the podcast files in the main directory but they are grey and the the playback does not start.
Is here anyone who had already the same problem and perhaps solved it? Thank you in advance for your replies.
P.S. Generally I can play the files by changing the kind of media to movie.

    Oleg,
I had the exact same problem here - we have two XSERVE machines here running OSX 10.5.7 server, and we're accessing a samba share on these servers from Windows XP SP3 clients.
    When moving a file, I noticed a message in /var/log/samba/log.smbd :
    [2009/06/15 12:45:30, 0, pid=50709] /SourceCache/samba/samba-187.8/samba/source/modules/vfsdarwin_acls.c:fsp_setacl(126)
darwinacl: failed to set ACL on <filename>: Invalid argument
    !#acl 1
I tried to look this up on google, but had no success.
Searching the file /etc/smb.conf for "acl" showed the following line:
    vfs objects = darwinacl,darwin_streams
(Un)commenting this line (inserting a ";" in front of the first character) and restarting s,b solved the problem here - I'm now able to move files without having the permissions set to 0000, and the error in log.smbd doesn't appear any more.

  • Can't Change iTunes Podcast Category

I've done all the tags, but I can't get my podcast category to change from "visual arts" to just "arts"
    Here's the itunes link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/artist-alley/id659908652?mt=2
    Here's the RSS: http://feeds.feedburner.com/artistalleypod
Here's the feed that feedburner syndicates: http://merrillbarr.com/merrill/AA/feed/feed.xml

'Visual arts' is a sub-category of 'Arts'; your podcast shows as 'Arts' with 'Visual Arts' as a sub-category because you haven't specified one. (You have a second category of 'TV & Film' but this won't show).
Although Apple's Help page on podcasting shows an example of a single category, I've seen cases before where when a sub-category hasn't been specified the Store has chosen one, so it looks as if you aren't going to be able to have 'Arts' by itself. If 'Visual Arts' isn't what you want you can choose from the other sub-categories specified at the bottom of this page:

  • HD Video Podcast Category

How can I get our podcast into the "HD Podcasts" category?
I see it's listed as Podcasts > Music > Video Podcasts > HD
but I don't see how to form the correct RSS feed category tag for this.
    Anyone have any ideas?
iTunes support has no clue... I've asked them multiple times with no luck.

Well, still no luck. Nobody from Apple has a clue, either.
I'm trying to get our podcast added to two categories that don't seem to be accessible by the XML tags:

  • Unable to Access Favorite Podcasts

Ever since my AppleTV2 got upgraded with the new IOS for AppleTV3, I have not been able to access my Favorite Podcasts. It just spins forever trying to access the iTunes Store. Everything else with the AppleTV seems to be working fine and I can access Top Podcasts - just not Favorite Podcasts. Is anyone else having this problem also. My other AppleTV which has not been upgrade works fine with Favorite Podcasts.

I have exactly the same symptoms - is there any fix that anyone knows of??

  • Podcasts category accidentally deleted

I accidentally deleted the podcast category in itunes. How do I restore it?

Thanks, I had the same problem. Podcasts were fine, then after I synced my Apple TV for the first time, the parental control seems to have activated itself. Strange!

  • Unknown podcasts category created by itunes 7 not accessible for deletion

I have been using Audio Hijack Pro to record "podcasts" and add them to itunes. After upgrading to itunes 7, these podcasts have been put in :podcasts:unknown podcast: where they can be found by smart playlists, but they do not appear anywhere in the library, so I cannot delete them through itunes.
Any way to access them in the library, or do I have to wait for 7.0.1?
    Malcolm

I am having the exact same problem. I'm chiming in to add my voice to the complaint list. Are you listening, Apple????

  • How do we create a a main podcast category with sub-categories similar to the way many bands have subcategories and artwork for each of their albums?

How does a content producer create a main category with sub-categories similar to the way many bands have subcategories and artwork for each of their albums?

I think you're talking about an 'Artist Page' in which several podcasts are 'aggregated' into one iTunes Store page?  This Apple Tech note deals with the subject (scroll to the bottom of the page):
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/creatorfaq.html
Although your mention of albums makes me wonder whether there you are talking about albums and songs in the music Library? - podcasts don't come in albums.
You've also asked this in another forum:
I have created a feed for our podcasts, but they are all under one umbrella. We would like to have subcategories under one main category.
'A feed for your podcasts' doesn't make sense - a podcast has one feed (and vice versa). Are you confusing 'episodes' with 'podcasts'? A podcast is a collection of episodes - you can't categorize the episodes separately. The category shows only on the Store page and applies to the entire podcast. The 'Artist' page may again be what you are aiming for - if not perhaps you could post an example of what someone else is doing that you would like to.

  • Need to Change Podcast Category!

I have a podcast that is feed via Blog Talk Radio. I need to change the category from investing to business in itunes for the podcast. How can I do this? I can't find a way to change it from investing since it is NOT a investment podcast. HELP!

Tha'ts the only method. The Store may take a few days to pick up changes. It's not really possible to comment further unless you would like to publish the URLs of both your feed and the Store page - this latter can be found by control-clicking on the podcast image (or where it should be) - and choosing 'Copy link'.  Please include the http:// in both cases to make the links clickable.

  • Ironport S160 Access Policy URL Category not working

I have created a custom URL category "Allowed Sites" and put some sites in there that I want the proxy not to block and ticked the "Allow" field in my Access Policy.
Those sites also match the predefined URL category "Online Storage and Backup" which is blocked.
When I try to access those websites, the proxy blocks them saying they belong to the above predefined category.
Now, how can I allow those few sites, but not the whole predefined category??? Why is my custom category not being considered? URLs in there look like .example.com, .example2.com
    Any help appreciated,
    Kat

    Hi Kush,
find attached the screenshot of the Access Policy with only the first few lines of the Predefined URL Categories. Also the category I created with "mozy.com" and others in it.
This is the output of a policy trace for a user that is assigned to this Access Policy when testing the URL in question "mozy.com"

  • Wordpress/podpress podcast category does not show up in iTunes list

My co-hosts and I are using Wordpress/Podpress to publish Dogear-Nation, a weekly podcast focusing on technology and innovation that we've had up on iTunes for more than a year. Using podpress, in the iTunes:Categories, we've had "Technology:Tech News" for some time, however, when you go to the iTunes client, and select Podcasts->Technology->Tech News, and view either by featured or alpha order, the Dogear-Nation podcast does not show up in the 5 pages of podcasts. Trying the same with Podcasts-Technology yields the same results.
However, when you search for Dogear-Nation directly from the Search iTunes Store spotlight, the 'home page' for the podcast shows up, with the category of "Technology:Tech News" correctly displayed.
Finally got frustrated enough to ask the iTunes community this question -- hope that someone might point me in the right direction and suggest any steps to make this podcast discoverable to people who are browsing the Tech News podcasts!

  • Can't access my podcasts in the subway

Starting today, my podcasts, which i downloaded into i-Tunes in my computer and from there into my iPhone, are unavailable in the subway (NYC).  I assume that's because they're in the cloud and a data connection is needed.  Is there some way that they can actually reside in my phone, the way they used to, so that I can access them whenever I want?  Also, I'm using up my data plan very fast, just listening to podcasts.  Help!

I have no trouble downloading my podcasts.  But, once I've downloaded them, I seem to have to have an internet connection to listen to them.  And, for some reason, up until last week I could listen to them in the nyc subway, but now i can't.  I want to find some way to have them stored in my device, so that I don't have to stream them.  i download them into my computer, attach my device (iPhone) to the computer, open iTunes, move the podcasts into my device.  Is there a way of doing this that ensures that I don't have to stream the podcasts when I listen to them?
