Broken asset

my idvd wont burn my project, says something about fixing a broken asset before i ca burn.. help

My guess is you have moved, renamed, or deleted a pice of media iDVD is looking for. As example, if you are using an JPEG, filename 1234 within iDVD. To complete the project iDVD needs that image. If you have moved it, deleted it, or renamed it, iDVD can't find it.
I think this shows the problem (but I didn't watch the whole)....

  • "broken assets" error message when saving project as disc image

I've seen this question asked before but I've been unable to find a solution that works. I am using iDvd6. After creating my project in iMovie, I shared it with iDvd. I then added a slide show and some music. Before burning to disc I "save as disc image". However when I click "file" and "save as disc image", the error says that I have a "broken asset" in my project and need to fix it before continuing.
The DVD map shows no errors. I even deleted the iDVD project completely and started it again by going back to iMovie and sharing to iDvd, but I still get the same error. I even deleted the file "com.apple.idvd.." (I forget exactly) as someone recommended and restarted iDvd, and still no luck. The irony is that I have already done 8 different projects successfully (iMovie to iDvd to image burn to disc burn), but this one has me stumped as I can't find any errors to repair. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi b
    1. I don't ever use "Share/Export to iDVD" from within iMovie. It renders and
    destroys.
I drop my movie icon (with a Star on it) into the open iDVD theme window)
iDVD do the redering and so much better.
    2. Deleting the pref file is always a good start:
    iDVD
    -->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iDVD.plist
    3. Free space on internal hard disk should read about 20 - 25Gb free.
    4. I would start a new account / log into this / re-do the iDVD project but
this time by dropping in the movie icon.

    Hi
And if You change view - in main "window/view field" so that You see the box-plot structure.
No exclamation marks there either ?
and non at the front page ?
iDVD do not copy Your material - only points to where it is stored. So if on any external hard disks, USB-memories, CDs or DVDs are missing - assetts are broken.
Or if You changed location of any material or directed iPhoto or iTunes or GarageBand to a new Library - Then iMovie/iDVD also get's lost.

  • Broken assets driving me insane

I have an iDVD 08 project that I have checked and rechecked for the past two days. Everything appears fine and functions within the project. When I load, it lists a missing file which I no longer need or have in the project. When I go to burn, it says: The following warnings and errors were found during the validation of the current project:
    - There appears to be a broken asset in your project. Correct this problem before burning this project. I can't fix it, because I can't see or find the problem!! PLEASE HELP. THanks so much

    Welcome to the forums.
Broken assets can be audio, video, or still images. Usually it means the asset was moved to a different hard drive location. It can be messy to fix, even if you move the asset back.
It appears you recognize the file. Can you add it back in and then delete it? If not, tell us something about the file and how you were using it (menu audio, a draft slideshow, etc.).

  • Broken assets; Events in iPhoto

I recently completed a project on iDVD 08 which involved slideshows exported from iPhoto.
I then tidied up my Events (but did not delete any photos from my iPhoto library), merging and renaming some events.
On reloading the DVD project, I have a list of broken assets; photos that cannot be found. Has the renaming of the events caused this? Is there a quicker solution that to start again?
    Thanks
    Dave

OK, what seemed insoluble last night took about 2 minuted to solve this morning with a clear head.
I just clicked on "Find file", used the spotlight box to locate the file and iDVD did the rest.

  • Broken asset in project...

I'm creating a relatively full DVD (4.1GB, 98 minutes, best quality). It contains a handful of movies, and then thousands of pictures split up among a number of slideshows.
When I click Burn, I get an errr message:
"There appears to be a broken asset in your project. Correct this problem before burning this project."
It then kindly offers to open the DVD map, which I then look at. And, as far as I can tell, it looks completely normal. I even paged through everything in the Media section of the Info window, and every item has a checkmark in the Status column.
Is there any other way to figure out what asset it thinks is bad?

I was having the same issues. I started looking through the slideshow assets and saw some .psd files. Thought that might be the problem so I deleted them. Still had the error message about broken assets. Then saw a picture (the DVD was all slideshows) that didn't have a check by it in the project info and so I deleted it. Same problem.
Saw the post about deleting preferences and tried it. Seems to have worked just fine.

  • What does this mean and how do I fix it: "The following warnings and errors were found during the validation of the current project:  - There appears to be a broken asset in your project. Correct this problem before burning this project."

What does this mean and how do I fix it: "The following warnings and errors were found during the validation of the current project:  - There appears to be a broken asset in your project. Correct this problem before burning this project."

It means that iDVD has found a problem with one of the movies added to the project.  Did you edit the movie after it had been added to the project.
Create a new project and add your assets, movies, slides, etc. again and follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Moving iDVD movies to an external drive.

I have made many movies of my family and my hard drive was getting full. So I purchased an external hard drive and moved some of my iDVD movies to the external drive. When I went back later to look at the iDVD files I got the "broken assets" message. I know this is because I moved the iDVD file. My question is if it is possible to preserve the iDVD movie files with everything in place that it needs over to the external drive so I want get the "broken assets" message. How do I copy the media files along with the iDVD file? Is it possible, or is there a work around?

  • Image Incomplete Nightmare

Recently I've been working on a project and when I try to burn the disc, I get an error message that says, "image incomplete". When I try to save the image I get two error messages. The first says something about, "dual-layer disc image compatibly". I'm not too worried about that one. The next error says,"Errors in project". In the drop down menu of this error is says,
"The following warnings and errors were found during the validation of the current project:
    - There appears to be a broken asset in your project. Correct this problem before burning this project.
    - There seems to be too much motion menu content in your project. Correct this problem before you continue burning this project."
I checked the "Map" and no errors are shown. The movie is about an one hour and 25 minutes. I have about 59 gigs left on my hard drive. I have tried just about everything to make this work... Any suggestion would be appreciated.

  • Changing TV Standard - CRASH! Opening iDVD'04 project

I raised this before, was hoping that the 7.0.2 update was going to fix but no.
Is anyone out there from Apple? Helloooo! You have a defective product that I paid
for and can't use. do you care?
This is the displayed message when opening a project that was made with iDVD '04
    "Changing TV Standard
Changing the TV standard will require iDVD to encode all previously encoded assets again."
Which is total BS anyway as the standard has not changed, it was 4:3 PAL in the project and it is 4:3 PAL in the preferences
    Rapidly losing faith with Apple.

As a test I took an old iDVD 4 project on my 933 mhz G4 running Panther and saved it as an iDVD ARCHIVE with include Themes and Encoded Assets checked.
I then opened it on my 1.33 Ghz G4 Powerbook running Tiger and iDVD '08.
It 'sort of worked'. Things opened fine but I had a broken asset warning on video in the menu button. I was able to drag and drop the movie on the menu in the Map view to get rid of the broken asset warning, but the movie in the menu button doesn't play. The projects preview fine, but without the movie playing in the button.
Conclusion: an iDVD 4 PROJECT ARCHIVE with Themes and Encoded Assets included DOES open in iDVD '08, but may require some fixing.

  • Burning & Viewing Shuts Down Mac

I made a trailer DVD on iDVD and when it gets to the burning stage it just shuts my Mac down. No warnings or anything, just black. I tried different things:
    *Different DVD's
    *Saving as a Video_TS folder
    *Saving as a Disk Image
    *Reimporting the broken asset
*Converting the asset to a different file
But I narrowed it down to one asset in the project. A .mp4 movie.
But I did eventually get it to burn, I can't remember what I did, 'cos I set it up before I went to work. But came home to my surprise the disk was popping out.
Now when I tested the DVD on my DVD player (connected to the TV), it works fine. But when ever I watch that one specific asset, my Mac just shuts off again. No warning.
This is not the first time stuff like this has happened, when I was trying to burn Logic 7 projects it did the same.
The problem could be many things, but I would really like to know whats going on. Is it that iDVD stuffed up the burn, and said it was successful? Is the DVD player app stuffing up? Is it got to do with codecs and containers?
    Thanks anyway

    Hi,
I'm also having a similar issue.
I'm using imovie to import video from my camcorder via firewire. Create a project in imovie - edit what i need and then export.
I then open idvd and create project and import the movie i made in imovie.
I click to burn to disk, insert the DVD and idvd runs through the encoding stages etc - gets to the burning step, completes the multiplexing and starts burning the disk - and then the mac just turns off. Like someone pulled the plug out the back.
I had this when i first used it - then it burnt 3 or 4 successfully and now i'm back to this again. I'm using Kodak DVD +R disks.
I have about 190GB free space and have run the extended hardware test which reports no trouble.
Then, earlier today i was importing a cd into itunes and the same thing happened - half way through copying the cd the mac just powered off - like the power cord had been pulled out.
Beginning to think that the issue may not be with iDVD but with the superdrive itself? Up until this point i had imported many cds with no issue.

  • Help, Error writing DVD

When I go to burn my DVD it says, error: there appears to be a broken asset in your project. I have checked everything I can think of it all flows well and there are no error markings on the map... Does anyone know what i'm missing? I'm a fairly
new mac user and this is my first DVD, but I need to get it out to a client by tomorrow...
    Thanks

When I first built this dvd I had an audio track that I have since deleted off of my itunes, and when I went to the project info it has the track with a circle with a slash through it. Then I went to my map and looked through all of the audio tracks on the dvd and that song is nowhere on the dvd... I don't know what else to do

I get this error message:  "There were errors during the project validation that have to be fixed before burning the project."
When I open the little triangle in the dialog box, it says, "there appears to be a broken asset in your project".  But when I go to the DVD map, everything appears to be there.  I can put the project in motion and all of the buttons work.
    Any ideas?
