Broken (black) Macbook Pro screen, Want to use external monitor.

Long story short I have a Macbook Pro older version like 2007-08. The screen is broken and I cannot seem to get it to hook up to an external monitor. I've tried booting it up and holding cmd + F1, Nothing. I've tried booting it up and shutting the screen and using an external mouse to try and wake up the external monitor, nothing.
Heres 3 things that I can imagine are going wrong.
1) My external mouse is garbage and doesn't work.
2) I need an external mouse and keyboard.
3) I use to run Windows 7 on the computer as well. So whenever I booted my computer on i would have to hold the option key or it would go directly to windows. When I held the option key it would show 2 hard drives the mac and the windows, then I would have to click the Mac hard drive in order for it to bring me to the Mac login screen.
I'm thinking I might have to be at the mac login screen in order to do anything?
But I'm not sure.
I've been trying to guesss my way around with the track pad to try and click the mac harddrive logo (After holding option) but I can't seem to get it.
Is there ANY other way to get this to work. I replaced my mac lcd about a year ago and not it is black again for some reason. I took it apart today and tried unplugging anf plugging everything in again but it still doesn't work. So I really want this external monitor to work.

If an external display doesn't work, its possible your video card is shot or the connector is bad. The Mac Pro's video card is pretty easy to replace. If you have the Apple display I think there are some diagnostic lights that flash when something is wrong with the display itself.
You are talking about a "headless" Mac (no screen) so a search on that would turn up several options. What you need to do is use another Mac to boot up in Firewire Target Mode as a one-time operation. While in there, set your OS for remote screensharing access in the Sharing prefpanel. You can also enable "Remote Login" if you do command line and that is very useful for headless controlling.

Here we go again, this worked pre-Yosemite. Now it seems this trick no longer works. After following these steps again the screen on my Macbook Pro now turns on after logging in and opening the clam shell.

To execute in Terminal:
sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"
To undo in Terminal:
sudo nvram -d boot-args
Once you type it into terminal I believe you need to enter your password. I then restart my machine. Now the TRICK is to either restart your machine with the lid already closed (hit restart then slam the lid!) OR turn the machine on for the first time (then quickly slam the lid!) once you are past the login screen you can open the lid.

Has anyone experimented with tip 2 (active corners)? Perhaps it still works.

Macbook Pro Stuck/Frozen while using external monitor

While playing music through iTunes and having external monitor connected via DisplayPort adapters (various adapters and various monitors).
My MacBook freezes on random occasions. iTunes is stuck playing the last song and both displays are grey.
Disconnecting the monitor doesnt help. System is completely stuck.
Only solution is hard reboot.

MacBook Pro: How do I use external monitor only?

This is odd. It worked and then stopped working. I have a MBP with a Thunderbolt display plugged in. I want to close the clamshell and use only the Thunderbolt display. This worked fine.... until it didn't work. When I close the clamshell, the computer goes to sleep. Does anyone know the magic incantation to make this work?

On your phone, Go to "Settings", "iCloud", scroll to the bottom and "sign out." Assuming you have the the account password/security info of the current account, it will delete everything iCloud related upon your approval (don't worry, everything will remain in the cloud.) Once signed out, in the same settings location (under "Settings", "iCloud") sign in using your Apple ID and Password.

Have you tried resetting the PRAM? shutdown the machine, hit the power button then hold down the option and command keys with your left hand, while holding them down with your right hand use your pinky to hold the 'P' key and index finger to hold down the 'R' key. hold them down until you hear the 'bong' sound twice then release the keys and let the machine bootup.
Also try resetting the SMC. Shut the machine down. Hold down the 'shiftctrloption' keys with your left hand, right hand hold down the power button for 10 seconds then release all. Power up the machine as normal.

DVD Drive broken on Macbook Pro. Want to restore laptop to its original state.

Hi, I want to restore my macbook pro to its default state. My dvd drive does not work, but I do have the discs that came with it. Is there a way to reinstall using an external dvd drive?

I have a 25" Apple Cinema Display and Macbook Pro. Want to use iSight camera on ACD.

When I use Skype or Google+ Hangout, I'm not able to use the built-in camera on the ACD. Is there a preference to switch camera from Macbook Pro to ACD?

I don't know about Google+ but in Skype's Preferences, there's an Audio/Video tab and within that window there's a popup menu for the camera. Does that allow you to select the ACD?

I just bought and installed Lightroom on My MacBook, it has a tiny HD and I was hoping to use an External HD for storage of photos.
Is there a trick to setting up the external HD for storage?
Should I of put the catalogue on there rather than the Mac HD?

Yea I'm just going to wait for a solution I like better. The easiest way would be for apple to have some kind of itunes server software. Theres no reason that my computer running itunes shouldn't be able to communicate with with hard drive wirelessly just as it would with a usb cable. Kind of like wireless itunes synching with my iphone.
I don't want to use Itunes match because music is not my concern. It is the 1,000 movies that I want to watch on apple tv without tying up my laptop.

MacBook Pro 13 + LG W2240T - No external monitor display

Hi all. Have a brand new MacBook Pro 13 and LG W2240T connected with the MiniDisplay-->DVI-D adaptor. When I plug in the adaptor the screen on the Macbook flashes, the LG immediately says "DVI-D Power Save Mode" and then goes black. When I click "Detect Displays" it shows that no external monitor is attached. If I unplug the connector the MacBook display flashes. I think the Macbook is seeing something but it isnt sending a signal to the display. If I unplug the cable from the monitor I get a general "check signal" message floating around the screen. Dont think it is a problem with the screen. I dont want to have to shell out another $30 for a MiniDisplay -->VGA adaptor and use an analogue signal with the beautiful new digital display.
Any hints or suggestions appreciated.

I'm having the same trouble. Actually, my Macbook detects the monitor but no signal is reaching it. I am using a DVI-A cable from what I can tell. There appears to be a DVI-D or DVI-2 type cable available as well.
The connection is as follows:
Macbook Mini Display Video output to (Mini Display/DVI adaptor) then the DVI-A cable to a DVI/VGA adapptor (sub-D monitor connector) to the external video monitor input. I can see a "No Signal" message when I use a "picture in picture" function on the external monitor screen but get just a black screen with the monitor set to full screen VGA input.
So do we think the trouble is the type of DVI cable or is there some further Mac secret handshake that I need to prompt the output from the Macbook. The odd thing (to me anyway) is that the Macbook recognizes the monitor by its brand and model number after doing a "Discover Monitors" search. But the signal does not reach the monitor and I don't know if there is anything else I need to do or if it just doesn't work.
Further info is that I just tried disconnecting the DVI input, which I use as the main video connection to my monitor and I get the stock "arora" screen image from the Macbook but that's not what is currently being viewed on the Macbook screen. So perhaps I can just set the Macbook to "Mirror" the displays and use the DVI connector. The trouble with that is that the DVI connector is occupied on both of my external monitors. I haven't even tried the other monitor yet as it's a plasma TV in another location.
What do you guys and gals think is the best and most cost effective fix here? I just want to be able to output signal from my Macbook onto the larger displays so that I can work more comfortably.

Macbook Pro (17-inch, Mid 2009) external monitor static

I've had this problem ever since I bought my macbook pro a year and a half ago. I like to connect my macbook pro to a Sony Bravia TV (model: KDL-26P3000) via an HDMI cable and mini displayport to hdmi adapter. Every few minutes or so the image turns to static on my Sony TV for anything between a few seconds and 2 minutes (there is no change to the macbook pro display). The TV screen also flickers and shows red vertical lines from time to time.
It seems to be completely random (has nothing to do with Sleep function) and it happens whether I am playing movies, viewing photos or not doing anything at all. I've tried using several cables (I think about 6) and 2 adapters (one apple and one griffin) and the problem persisted. It happened on Snow Leopard and it still happens on Lion. Everything is updated. I am certain this is a software issue, because using the exact same hardware and cables with my secondary OS (Windows 7 installed via Bootcamp) the issue simply never occurs.
There seems to be some correlation with the length of the cable I'm using. My current configuration requires me to use a 10m / 33ft. HDMI cable (I've tried both high- and low-end brands until now). However, everytime I use a significantly shorter cable (under 4m / 13ft.) everything is fine.
I've tried different resolutions (from 1080i, 720p, 480p and even 640 x 480), different refresh rates (50Hz/60Hz), with or without overscan and various display profiles.
It might be worth mentioning that I've cleaned both the HDMI cables and the port (the computer was also cleaned on the inside by Apple Service Staff just a few months ago). I've had different arrangements and cable paths in order to eliminate the posibility of interference - the issue occurs in every room, whether the cable is coiled or stretched out.
I would really appreciate and be very thankful for any help or suggestions. I'm sorry about the length of the post but I wanted to give out as many details as possible and be very specific, since I haven't been able to find other accounts of the exact same issue.
