Broken cable

My father who is 77 has a broken phone line the cable has snapped between the house and the telegraph pole this was reported exactly one week ago and we have been given 3 different repair dates the latest is today and its not looking promising is our job being put back as we are not with bt or are bt just useless btw there are no holes to dig just a cable replace from the pole to the house !.

'Nope its not plusnets problem and I dont know what shift dabs.com is.....yet'
DABS.com is an online Electronics store,
The reason I asked if you posted the same message on there or Plusnets customer forum is because you said; 'is our job being put back as we are not with bt or are bt'.
This forum is a place for customers of BT Retail, now although BT Retail and Openreach, who maintain the phone network are owned by the same Company they work independently from one another, a bit like Currys and PC World. Therefore you posting your comments on here are pointless as you are with a different telephone provider.
Plusnet and DABS.com are also owned by the same Company as BT Retail and Openreach, in fact I think The BT Group plc own close to or just over 200 different companies.

I have a recharger and the cable got broken. The cable was 6 or 8 feet and it worked well.
Went to the local Verizon store and they said they didn't have a replacement cable and had to sell me an entire unit. When I got home I found out the new charger had a really short cable. It is way short.
Went down to Best Buy and they don't have long cables for android.
This website seems to be designed so the customer doesn't bother Verizon.
The sales people at Verizon are really keen to get me on a new contract. I am not getting an new phone and contract.
    I don't like poor service.

  • Cinema display how to fix broken cable?

The connector of the power cable that goes into the power adaptor from my 30"cinema display just cracked, so now the monitor won't power on.  It's a fine working monitor, but how the **** do I fix this?   The cable is fused to the monitor itself.   It's obviously out of warranty and I'm very handy.  Is this something I can attempt to fix myself somehow?   How much would a service center charge to fix something as simple as this?  It's just the very tip of the power plug that's cracked open.

    Thanks for the reply Malcolm.
That's what's so baffling and why I had to ask the question here.
I'm using a HDCP compliant monitor (or at least it should be on an Apple monitor purchased late 2009-early 2010) and I still get an error. Everywhere I've checked it says the 24'' is HDCP compliant. Maybe I just missed the upgrade somehow?
Also to note: my old laptop was purchased post 2008. So the HDCP measures would have already taken affect and I was able to play HD videos just fine.

  • Reset iTunes wifi sync, broken cable

I have an iPhone 5 cable that is now of questionable origin upon closer inspection.
It powers the phone, but can't get the iPhone to show up in iTunes/iPhoto.
Is there a way to reset/setup iTunes wifi sync without using a cable?

No, but a new cable is $19.

  • Broken cable in phono jack - override to internal speakers?

I recently broke my headphones cable off in the phono jack on my Powerbook G4, and now my computer perpetually thinks that I have headphones plugged in because of the little piece of cable that is lodged in the jack. I use a USB peripheral for headphone use now (I've given up on the Sisyphean task of trying to dislodge the piece), but I'd still like to be able to use my internal speakers. Headphones appears as the only output option in the Sound control panel, and I'm curious if there's a way to trick my computer into switching back to internal speakers.

    Hey TR,
    21Jan...
Can you stick a powered speaker on that jack and fix it so it doesn't wiggle much until you can get it fixed?
    22 Jan...
The only fixes I have found for this are for Linux.
One can risk a registry fix, though I've not found a sure way to do it.  The fix depends on knowing your sound card (I do not), and knowing the exact entry fix (I might, but I won't risk your system).
My sage advice is to get it fixed and be done with it.
It is my pleasure to assist.

  • Broken cable Creative SBS 580

Hello! At the beginning I would like to apologize for my English.
Returning to the question, I have a speaker Creative SBS 580 and long ago I broke off the plug. Now, it does not have. but I noticed that the same plug as in mouse (PS/2). Can someone tell me how to connect the cable to the plug? I would add that it is a six pin plug. Which cable connect to which pin?
    I cordially greet Matthew

    Hey everybody!
I just got my SBS-580 5.1 system. Since I don't have an external 5.1 card for my laptop, I use it as a 2.1 system, with only front left/right output (green one) plugged. The problem is that the front right satellite is not working properly, at the max volume I can hear it only whispering. I'm just wondering if it's the problem of my soundcard and I need a proper 5.1 sound card to get the full effect or is it the problem of particular system and I should contact the seller I've bought the speakers from? Any help is appreciated!
    Thanx!

  • Another broken usb cable!

I have an iphone 5 and for about the 4th or 5th time i have a usb cable that is no longer working. They are pretty expensive considering what they actually are. Any recommendations for a cheaper option that actually works and wont affect my phone?

You must be very careless with your cables.  I have multiple iDevices and have never had a cable issue.  Of course, I don't yank on the cords or kink them.
BTW, the cables have the same warranty as the iDevice with which it came.  Is there a reason you didn't bring the broken cable back to Apple?  If a manufacturing defect was detected (and not user abuse, which I suspect is the case here), your cable would be replaced under warranty.

  • A network cable is NOT unplugged, need help

So my internet appears to be working fine but yesterday I was playing a game (world of warcraft) and my latency jumped from the normal 200ms to about 800ms. It appears to be jumping back and forth 200 to 800 but I can't tell for sure.
I closed the game and checked my wireless signal, its 100%. Then I noticed an icon that said "A network cable is unplugged", im pretty sure that wasn't there before. So I checked my cables, nothing is unplugged or plugged in the wrong place. When you click it it says my LAN is disconnected and my Wireless LAN is connected. I don't know if thats important cause my internet is working fine its just when I need steady connection like games.
So that's the story, heres the 3 explanations I can think of, just tell me which one you think is right or if you know another possible problem.
    1. I noticed the ethernet light on my modem (goes from modem to wireless router) was blinking, I don't know if its suppose to blink but the phone and power light are solid. So I took the ethernet that goes from router to computer and switched it with the "broken" one. The light stayed solid with the new cable. But the weird thing is the light that I put the "broken" cable in was staying solid too.
Maybe I should buy a new ethernet cable for the one I think is broken? I don't know how it would just magically stop working one day though.
    2. My phone line that goes from wall to modem runs across a doorway. We trip on it often. Maybe the insides are all torn apart. But wouldn't the phone light be blinking instead of that ethernet light?
    3. I bought an iphone the other week and I was having troubles getting the wifi to work at home. I fiddled with some network settings on my computer but im almost positive I set them all back to normal when I figured out I was just using the wrong password. In the chance I didn't get the settings back exactly I don't think it would say "network cable unplugged". And I believe I've used my internet a few days after all this happened.

Should i try going Half Duplex and 10baseTX? Im currently using etherent and NOT wireless. Doesnt make a difference tho.

  • CA-53 Connectivity Cable Issue with 6233

I just bought this cable , installed drivers on my pc , plugged it into the PC and then into my phone (6233).
OOPS "Enhancement not Supported" error... I've been busting my head for the last hour reading forums, but i haven't found anything i can do that doesn't involve going to get it "Fixed" or killing myself... I've tried rebooting and removing battery. I also wanted to update my firmware... but oops my cable doesn't work ... If you can give me a hint about what to do , that doesn't involve killing myself ( I'd Really rather live ) I would love you so much ... (Thats the rage talking)Also, in my connectivity menu, my USB Data cable thing is grayed out...
P.S I just tried the cable on a 6230 phone - same error... Could that mean old firmware, broken cable thingy, or something else?

Hmm, our m8 have suggested that procedure in the assumption that there's no hardware fault involved. And what you have experienced could be brought about by 3 causes namely software, cable fault, or the port of the phone in which the cable is connected.
You have to narrow it down & the people who will have another cable, or phone for testing would be the Nokia Care Centre. Unless of course you knew somebody who have a phone or a cable that's the same as you have.
Knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted!

  • Usb vs firewire cable trouble wont load ipod

The cable I rec'd w/my 5g 30 ipod worked only if I jiggled it and occasionally updated it. I purchased a "replacement", which would only charge it. Finally, I contacted support and recently rec'd a replacemnt for the 30/6pin cable...it's a firewire usb and I'm not literate enough (!?) to install this w/o it saying its not supported. If I have the plugs, why cant this replace the other one? I need help, since I have to send the "bad" usb back to Apple asap, and possible the "new" one as well? Did I get the wrong part? I just want to update again!!! If Apple doesn't do firewire usb on the 5th gens, why did they send it to me to replace the broken cable? Soooo confused!

    You purchased the wrong cable.
The 5th Gen iPods do not support syncing via Firewire. You can only charge the iPod via a Firewire cable.
There is no such thing as a 'firewire usb cable', as you specify. Firewire and USB are two different things.
You need a USB-to-Dock Connector Cable. You don't want anything to do with Firewire at all.
If Apple doesn't do firewire usb on the 5th gens, why did they send it to me to replace the broken cable? Soooo confused!
Apple probably sent what you asked for. Since you mentioned Firewire... they sent you a Firewire cable. You shouldn't have said anything about Firewire.
This is the cable you need:
Apple iPod Dock Connector to USB 2.0

  • Optical cable for early 08 MacPro

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement optical drive cable for my early 2008 Mac Pro? My broken cable indicates it's a "593-0377 A". I recently bought a cable that was suppose to be for a Mac Pro but it was too short.

A small clarification if I may:
An 80-wire cable with 40-pin headers. Special wiring in the headers intersperses the (about five) grounds available in the interface so that a ground appears between every active signal on the cable. This keeps it quiet enough to run at the higher speeds required.

  • Apple Lightning Charge/Sync Cable Fails

This past summer my school purchased and we implimented 1,200 brand new iPad 4's. Since then, we have probably had a 20% failure rate on the cables. This is extremely frustrating. My frustration drove me to try to find the issue.  I decided to open a few of them up and see what's going on with them. I was very surprised to see that cables that quit working all had the exact same issue (unless extreme physical damage). The Redish-Brown wire inside the cable was broken about 1cm below the bottom of the lightning adapter. Some of these cables even appear to have burn residue at the break point of the wire.
    My questions:
Is anyone else having these issues?
Shouldn't it be a recall on the cables? It's ALWAYS the same wire, unless extreme physcial damage.
Again, shouldn't it be a recall, at least as a fire hazard?
These cables are too expensive to replace.... Apple's education discount does so much for us (obviously sarcasm).

    Thanks for the responses...
We have actually began replacing the broken cables with the one available from Monoprice.com, they are significantly cheaper as well as certified by apple (see the link below).
My issue with apple is that because the cable looks worn, they will most likely not replace it under manufacturer warranty, correct?
My other issue with apple is that it seems to be a HUGE fire hazard, and it's odd that it's the same color wire that's broken in each cable. Thanks for the feedback link; I will be filling it out!

  • PC not getting IP due to bad cable

    Hi everyone,
User is connected to switch 3560 and switch is gettig IP from another switch via DHCP.
I check switch port it has no errors.Port is clean.
When user connects PC to Wall jack i can see switch port is up up and learning mac address of user PC but the user PC is not getting IP address.
We have changed PC also but still same thing.
Only thing that can be issue is cable from patch panel to the wall jack.
DHCP is working fine as other users are getting IP.
Does anyone seen this behaviour where user PC does not get IP due to bad or broken cabling?

    Mahesh,
Can you statically assign an address and pass traffic? I've seen a bad cable cause the computer to not get a connection to the network, but not disallow just dhcp. If the problem stays at the wall jack, you could run a tester to see where the problem is, but I'm probably leaning toward a new run.
    HTH,
    John

  • IPhone 5s screen not working, no physical explanation

A girl smashed my iPhone 5s a few months ago, luckily it had a case on it. However, my screen popped off completely, it did not crack or break. All ribbon cables for the display are in tact and while investigating at times it would light up and but 99% of the time it wouldn't. Now after it happened the phone was still powered on, I could hear it ringing, I even activated Voice over somehow. Now the problem I am running into is there is a broken cable. I thought it was the home button cable however after I removed the cover I see a nice looking copper ribbon cable running from it to a small computer chip right beside it. THIS is where things are broken. There is a little piece of a ribbon cable leading from the bottom of this chip that is snapped off and I have a cable that is about an inch and a half long, very thin just like a ribbon cable, has a QR code printed on one side, underneath that QR code it looks like another little chip that connects to the chip next to the home button. The other end snaps has a little connector that snaps into a little piece right underneath the battery and above the charger. That cable is completely ruined I believe since it cannot connect to the chip that is next to the home button where the ribbon cable runs to from the home button.
*EDIT* I figured out that this is the actual home button flex cable. So now my concern is could this cable prevent my screen from working. And a recent revelation since this phone has been sitting for months as is; I plugged in a charger and it has been on the charger for over a half hour and I cannot start the phone. I used to get a vibrate or some sort of activity, now I'm getting nothing. Like I said before all cables are in tact and regardless if the 3 screen cables were broken that shouldn't stop the phone from turning on should it? This is everything I have done. I have taken the phone apart 4 times since then. I did a hard reset and actually upgraded it from 7.1.2 to 7.1.4 I believe. I have inspected cable after cable after cable, I have checked to make sure the screen seats back down in it's housing perfectly so that literally the phone looks like it's in mint condition, I have investigated literally everything I know in order to figure this out and now I plug it in the computer and I get no sign of it being detected, I'm getting no vibration, I'm getting nothing. It may be a cable or it may not be, I just took it apart just now to make sure I had all my facts straight for this post since I hadn't worked on it for such a long time.
I need to know, would the broken home button cable from the chip alongside the home button prevent the screen from working? I need to fix this phone, I have fixed hundreds of iPhones since the first generation and this is the 1st iPhone 5s and unfortunately it is mine because some unstable girl got upset and decided to spike it like a football and got away with it without any punishment whatsoever, no fine no jail time, no restitution, nothing. So I am very upset. If I can fix this thing myself with a few parts and you know or are at least 75% sure you know what parts I need to get it up and running for 10-20 dollars I would love your input. If I have to take it to a repair person I am going to have to sell it because I cannot afford to pay $200 for a $5 part and 20 minutes of a guy's time. Please help me out here! I can provide photos sometime if needed but I really prefer not to take this thing apart again unless it is replacing parts and getting it working. Thank you.

Sorry, but since DIY repair will void the warranty and can't be discussed here, you'll have to find other sources, for example this one

  • New Airport Network - issues with some specific features

    Hello,
I have just changed my wifi system for an Airport Network, with one AirPort Extreme and 2 AirPort Express. The goal was to extend the wifi network to the entire house. Everything is fine, all my computers are able to connect to the network and are able to access the internet. The AirPort Network is connected to the internet with the PPPoE procedure.
The issue is very specific here.
    1. I use Outlook 2007 to handle my e-mails. Since I have shifted to the AirPort Network, Outlook is not able to connect to pop server anymore for 4 of my 5 accounts. Hotmail (pop) is functionning alright but Gmail is blocked !
    2. Windows Update is also unable to connect to the appropriate server.
Maybe there is more but it's all I have noticed so far. I have not changed a single parameter by myself on my computers and both are affected the same way.
I first thought it was a firewall issue but disabling my software firewall (Bullguard) did not change anything. Vista Firewall is not active. Maybe is it the internal firewall of the AirPort Extreme ? But that would not explain why Outlook can send messages (smtp works fine).
Any idea or similar experience ? Thank you in advance.
    Best regards,
    AdG

Maybe my problem is just bad luck ! I might have shifted to my new network
the wrong day. One day earlier, I would not have seen any difficulty... if this is it.
    Quakes slow cyber connections
By Zhu Shenshen | 2009-8-18 | NEWSPAPER EDITION
SHANGHAI'S international Internet connections slowed significantly yesterday after earthquakes rocked Taiwan and southern Japan. It was unclear last night how long repairs might take. Millions of Chinese Netizens were unable to connect to overseas Websites or use popular online chat tools yesterday afternoon.
About 15 million MSN instant message users in Shanghai and other parts of China were affected as the main servers are in the United States. Connections to most overseas Websites including those run by Yahoo and the New York Times were also clogged.
The chain of events that led to the service disruption had its origin in Typhoon Morakot, which struck Taiwan on August 7 and led to a later breakdown in an undersea telecommunications cable system.
Local Internet traffic was not influenced because transmissions were routed to a backup channel. But that cable failed yesterday near Busan, South Korea, apparently the victim of the earthquakes, according to China Unicom.
The failure affected Asian communications to the US and Europe.
The epicenter of the first quake, which struck at 8:05am yesterday, was about 188 kilometers southeast of Hualien on Taiwan's east coast at a depth of 11km, the island's weather bureau said. The US Geological Survey put the magnitude at 6.7.
The second quake, which was centered close to the first at a depth of 20km and struck at 6:10pm, measured 6.1, the Taiwan weather bureau said. It was also felt in Japan's Ishigaki Island.
"We've sent a team to repair the broken cable, but we can't give a detailed timetable for when it will be completed," said Song Guixiang, a public relations official for China Telecom.
The schedule will depend heavily on weather conditions, Song said.
Repairs are handled by a team comprising the carriers that use the cable.
In most cases it takes one to two months to fully repair damaged undersea cables. In the meantime, telecom operators will try to reroute traffic to operating cables and satellite systems.
Domestic Internet connections and international call services were normal yesterday, the carriers said.
