Was it the old 30-pin connector, or the new Lightning plug? There have been sporadic reports of the new connector snapping just ahead of the two side "dimples" that are used to hold it in place, but this would be the first time I hear of similar failure on the older and bigger connectors.
If at all possible, I would suggest a visit to an Apple Store for free assessment. Else proceed with caution either with tweezers and/or a pin to nudge the fragments out. Maybe a review of the corresponding teardown of your model at IFixIt.com may help you visualize how to attack the problem.

It will likely take both a new adapter and replacement of the power input (DC-in) board, since usually when the adapter tip breaks off in the computer, it damages the power input board.
_DT&T Computer Services_ will repair it for $145. Click on the "Inverter Cable or Board" tab (an error in their website navigation, but, as of this date, that's where it is).
    Good luck.

  • Broken Charger In iBook

The other i realized that my charger got stuck inside of my iBook g3 and i was wondering what is the specific name or serial number for the charging port (the thing you place your charger into) and on average how much would it be to fix it and to buy one

It's called the power input board (or DC-in board).
It costs $145 plus shipping to have it replaced at +DT&T Computer Services+ in Fremont, California.
It's $118 plus shipping at MicroDoc in Eugene, Oregon.
If you think you can do it yourself, macrecycling.com has the part for $14.95 plus shipping.
It can be bought for $29.95 plus shipping at iFixit.com, and they have online instructions on how to do the repair:

  • Broken Charger - Genius Bar Appointment

I had had my mac for about 18 months and I have apple care. The charger has frayed and no longer works, I have a genius bar appoitment tomorrow on my break from work. I have been told to bring both the charger and laptop, however I am wary of doing so as we do not have secure lockers at work. Can I just take the charger? Nikki

That is not a question we can answer here, since we are all Apple users / customers like you. But the request seems to be reasonable.
Your computer is necessary to establish the warranty coverage. And obviously since it is broken, the charger is necessary. Personally I see no way out of taking them both in.

  • Broken Charger 3 months old!

I use AT&T. My cable is broken and wont charge my phone. Does anyone know if AT&T will replace my cable or do i have to deal with Apple? I live in podunk no where and we dont have an Apple store anywhere near us and i can't wait to do anything online..

The only way to find out is to contact AT&T. Apple will replace it for free, but if you can't wait, then your only option is to find out from AT&T whether they will replace it or not. We wouldn't be able to tell you that....
    Cheers,

  • Broken charger socket

The standard chárter socket en muy playbook es broken. Can i recharge using the micro USB and if so which one¿ I cannot find a brand ro fit. Thanks

The port in the middle is the microUSB. The other port that looks similar to a microUSB port is an HDMI output. You can't charge from that. The third port with the three contacts is for the magnetic rapid charger. That is the port I recommend using to charge a playbook as it results in less wear and tear. Unfortunately, you need to purchase the rapid charger separately.

  • Broken Charging Port

    Hi,
I am with Bell. Last year i had boughten my first bb in April, a blackberry Style.
Four months later the charging port broke. First it started off that I needed to have the cable on a certain angle to charge then it stopped working altogether.
I sent my phone away to be repaired and it was returned "un repairable" and "damage was caused due to dropping" which was absolutely not true being that I am incredibly careful with my devices and I kept a hard case on it that I went to the states specifically for and also only had it for 4 months!
Needless to say I was furious with this answer, especially since Blackberry or Bell did notthing but tell me I needed to buy a new one because it was not covered in my warranty.
After my contract is up with Bell I will be switching to Rogers and possibly switching to Team IPhone (unfortunately) if i cannot find a good blackberry or a solution to my broken BB Style.
    Someone help me.

Our BB Style had this same problem. We went to the store and were told it was probably corrosion in the battery terminal but because it was a BB it couldn't even be looked at in store and had to be sent out and would cost at least $100 to fix (even thought we pay Sprint $8/month for insurance).
They were so interested in discouraging us to get it fixed and telling us that if it were water or something we would have to pay the full replacement value ($600) for the phone. He kept trying to sell us a new iPhone and their were no other BB phones to even demo in the store.
We went to a Radio Shack and wound up getting a lower price iPhone but are upset that BB wasn't represented in almost any store and were told our insurance was worthless.
Is this the type of relationship BB wants with its field sales force?
Hi and Welcome to the Community!
It does sound like whoever you spoke to was very poorly trained. But do be advised that the shop you went to was not a RIM store...it was a Sprint store, and they are a separate entity from RIM. They contract to sell BBs and BB services, but they are not RIM. So, it sounds like, if you wish to pursue a complaint path, that path would be with Sprint, would it not?
But, perhaps you wish for RIM to notice this issue...if that's your goal, I hope it's attained here. Just be aware that these forums are a user-to-user community, not a user-to/from-RIM formal communication channel.
    Good luck!

  • Problems charging iBook

I've been having problems charging my computer for about a week now. When I plug in the power adaptor, it doesn't always start charging. Sometimes if I wiggle it around it will the charging icon will show. Today, with my computer plugged in, the screen was getting brighter and dimmer as the charging icon went on and off. It seems like there must be a loose connection somewhere. The battery is fairly new. Any suggestions on what to do?

Do you have access to an Apple Store? If so, you could make an appointment at the genius bar, and they could try out a known good power adaptor and see what happens.
For the computer's battery to charge, three things have to be working--the battery, the power adaptor, and the DC In Board. A trip to the Apple Store should be able to verify that your battery and power adaptor are both good. Or not.
Since wiggling makes a difference, there is a good chance that the problem is with the DC In Board, as Lyssa suggested. The power port is on this board, and it takes a lot of wear plugging the adaptor in and out. Often the power port's soldered connections crack and break, leading to a flakey connection.
If so, the solution would be to replace the DC In Board or possibly to remove it and resolder the connections. You could possibly even do it yourself:
    http://www.ifixit.com/
The part is not terribly expensive, but it can be a job to get into the iBook. If you do decide to tackle this yourself, do post back for some additional tips.
    Good luck!

  • How do you know if your iPhone 4 has a broken charging port?

A few weeks ago I was issued a new iPhone because of a hardware problem with my old one. When I took my new one home I immediately realized that it had some problems charging. I have 3 different chargers, and none of them worked. They all worked with my iPad and my friend's iPhone. They occasionally work but last night they all completely stopped. Is this a problem with my phone? If I take it into apple, will they fix it and how much will they charge? Thanks!

If it is within the warranty period for the replacement
phone, they should just do a swap at no charge as
long as they determine that there was no physical
    damage done to the phone.

  • Broken Charger, Flashing sleep light, etc

Hi this is my first Apple Product and my first issue so I hope you guys can help me with it.
I was given a 15-inch Macbook Pro July 2010 as a gift for making it to college. Last night, after opening up my Macbook from a sleep state with the adapter plugged in, the charger light suddenly goes out. I've tested the charger and determined that it's dead. At the time, I was somewhat peeved but I understand that electronics can be erratic at times and I wasn't in dire need of it. This afternoon however, I forgot that the adapter didn't work so while working on homework it suddenly crashes. I ask my roommate if I could borrow his charger (knowing that it works on my MBP since I tested it the previous night) and when I attempt to turn it on I notice that the charging light is still green, the computer has its sleep light flashing at regular intervals and (I assume) the hard drive starting then dying.
So in summary: charger dies after waking MBP from sleep --> computer's battery goes to 0 charge --> roommate's charger that previously worked fine stays green but doesn't start/sleep light blinking/hard drive noise.
Any help would be appreciated since I have some unfinished homework.
    Thanks

  • Broken charger

    Hey everyone!
I haven't done any background research just thought it would be better to come here first.
MacBook white, 2008 I believe - tonight my chargers decided to give up on me.
It's only working in a certain position and if it moves in the slightest the charge will cut out.
I had my faceplate replaced not long ago as it was a common complaint - is this a similar issue? Will they repair/replace out of good will? (One can hope)
    Many thanks!

The wires going to the mag safe adapter are susceptible to cable strain from bending. There have been reports of the cable shorting out and catching fire so be careful with it. If you can take it to your nearest Apple Store and explain the problem to them they "might" replace it but they're under no obligation to do so. You can buy one either on eBay for fairly cheap of from OWC for as little as $29 depending on which charger you need.

  • Broken charger or macbook?

recentley i started having trouble charging my macbook. i would plug it in and sometimes the light would turn orange and charge, other times it would just turn green and not charge. most of the time the light would not come on at all. with some twisting i was able to get it to charge. now it will not charge at all. i noticed where you plug the mag safe in to the computer it looked like there were some little black marks. is this charging problem because of my computer, or the charger its self?

I had the same issue. I cleaned the contacts with a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and fixed it. Make sure you unplug the charger, power down & remove the battery before cleaning to eliminate any possibility of a short circuit.
