Broken display on titanium

my friend has an old titanium powerbook but the display is not working anymore. i want to connect it to another old ibook g4 and use this as a display so that he can manage the titanium disk. Is this possible and how do I go about it. I also use a macbook pro if this makes things easier. the cost of refurbishing the titanium is high and probably not worth the effort.
many thanks.
andrew

Connect them with a FireWire cable and start up the PowerBook with the T key held down. You may be able to specify the PowerBook's internal drive by starting the iBook while pressing Option.

  • Help with installing OSX Lion on iMac with broken display

    Hi,
Having some trouble installing OSX Lion on my 5 year old iMac which has a broken display.
The display has been dead for a couple of years now and I've been using an external monitor without any problems. Today I decided to upgrade to Lion - I downloaded the installer from the App Store and started the install which rebooted the machine. After reboot I'm presented with a grey 'thatched' background image on the external display and nothing else, no menu bar, installation menu etc.
I presume the internal display is showing the menu I need but I can't see it as that screen is broken. Is there a way to turn on mirroring during the install process so I can use my external display? I've tried various shortcuts held down during startup - OPTION-F14, CMD-F1, CMD-F2 - but none have worked.
If this isn't possible, is there a way to abort the Lion install process and go back to using my Snow Leopard install? Whenever I boot the machine I am taken to the OS X Lion installer and don't know how to get back to my Snow Leopard install. I tried holding down OPTION key on startup to choose the list of available OS installs, but again, the internal display is being used so I can't see what to do.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Genius idea, thank you. Was able to step through the install procedure using voiceover and the screenshots on this page http://www.macstories.net/mac/os-x-lion-installation-guide-boot-discs-and-qa/
Definitely a first for me, installing an OS with voice only

    Hi All,
i got some doubts here which i want to clarify with you,
If i got a broken display ipop to send in for repair, apple dun do repair for broken display
and would suggest you to have a one to one exchange for a recondition ipop which cost bout
230 over dollars for a 32MB ipop 4th generation.Correct me if the price is incorrect.
    In that case,
May i know how much is a refurbished ipop 4th generation gonna cost you,
i still dun get you by the one to one exchange for a refurbished ipop,
if thats the case, theres only the exchange for the broken display only rite, cos my ipop and battery are still working in good condition.
Appreciate if you could tell me more about what do you mean by one to one exchange.

  • Using my MacBook with a broken display on my tv please help!

My MacBook Pro has a broken display. I want to use it on my tv but when I plug it in using an hdmi I cable all I get on my tv is my wallpaper. I have read that I need to take my macbook out of extended desktop mode to actually use it this way but I obviously can't. Can Apple wirelessly do this? I don't feel like spending 20 dollars to schedule a call if they can't.

  • Connect iPhone to iTunes with broken display screen

My iPhone has a broken display screen and I can't connect with my iTunes because it says I have to log into my phone.  I can't log into my phone because it is not working.  I tried pressing the home button and then acting out the motions of entering my password, but nothing is happening.  I have my replacement phone and I'm trying to reset my broken phone, but I can''t do that until I log into iTunes.  If someone can advise me on what to do, it will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.  By the way, I am doing this on a PC computer.

Try putting the phone in DFU mode and then doing the restore. This article should help.

  • Apple Care - Coverage for broken display? iPhone 4S

    Hi,
next week I get my new (first) iPhone from Vodafone (Germany). An iPhone 4S, and as all know, the display is very critical. My old phone, fell very often down, but it was an HTC desire and so nothing happen. But I think, with a iPhone 4S I have not so much luck.
That the reason, why I think about Apple Care. Is there a Coverage for broken displays?
Or do I need Apple Care+? If I need Apple Care+, is this available for germany? Because I don't see it at the german page. I think I can buy it, but accept the apple care+ me from germany?
And second question. Do I need the Apple Care for the first year of my iPhone? Because it's free for the first year if I understand it right, and then can buy it for the second year? Or do I understand it wrong? If this it right, again: are broken display covered for the first free/included year?
    Thanks for your help
    schnuffi

Broken displays are only covered if they were a factory defect at the time of purchase. Otherwise, they result from user negligence which is not covered under the warranty.
AppleCare Extended warranty is an addition to the one year default warranty. You can purchase AppleCare Extended Warranty any time before the one year factory warranty expires which is one year from date of purchase.

  • Can a broken Display Switch module cause my screen to not turn on or be recognized?

    Hi All,
I have recently been having some issues with my LCD screen in my HP Pavillion dv9700. Ever since I replaced the left hinge on my notebook, I have had to fiddle with my screen by closing and opening it during booting to get it to turn on. This only happened when booting into linux. When booting into vista, the screen would turn on without a problem. This morning I was so fed up with this, that I thought maybe some switch was not getting pressed to tell the notebook that the lid was opened. After looking at all the cables and putting everything back together, my screen now no longer turns on no matter how much I open and close the lid. It wont even turn on in vista. I am however able to connect a vga cable to my notebook and use an external monitor without any problems. I opened up the nvidia control panel in both windows and linux and it does not recognize my notebook monitor, only the external monitor shows up. Could this be caused by a broken display switch module? How can I diagnose this problem? Is there a way to bypass the display switch module by jumping two wires?
    Any ideas are appreciated,
    Thanks in advance
OS: Latest version of Ubuntu Linux 11.10 dual booting with Windows Vista
Problem: LCD Monitor not turning on / being recognized
possible cause: LCD Display Switch Module

    Update:
I just figured out that it cant be my display switch module because when i close the lid to my notebook, the external monitor shuts off and the computer goes into standby mode. I now think this might be an issue with the ribbon cable. Is there anything else which might be  causing this problem which I am overlooking?

  • Hot To Get Data Off A G5 With Broken Display Card?

    Hi.
I have a G5 with a broken display card, the computer boots up ok. Is there a way I can get data out the G5 onto my powerbook using a firewire cable between the 2 computers? Unfortunately the file sharing is off on the G5. Any help would be fantastic thanks

    Hi Milton,
You can use FireWire Target Disk Mode to transfer the files to your Powerbook.
Instructions can be found here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583

  • How much does it cost to replace a broken display screen for a 21" Mac ?

how much does it cost to replace a broken display screen for a 21" Mac ?

The glass is part number 922-9795 and dvwarehouse sells it.  So that might give you an estimate of the minimum cost for replacement (unless you do it yourself).
Sorry, I didn't look at your profile when I made my previous post.

  • Installing OSX on 24" iMac with broken Display

    Hi,
I have a 24" iMac but the Screen is broken. It still worked with a external Display connected via MiniDVI but now i would like to install OSX 10.6. The problem is that I can't get the Installation to show on the external Display and I can't see what I'm (supposed to be) doing on the iMac's screen. With the DVD inserted it boots up like this (I can't even get the DVD out now):
Is there a working Shortcut (I tried cmd+F7 and cmd+F1) or other way to install without the main screen or is there at least a way to retrieve the DVD?

If you had another Mac you could do a remote install to the iMac 24".

  • Help diagnosing broken display

I bought my roommate's Black Macbook C2D 2.0 after he gave up trying to fix it and I'd like to know what is wrong. Here's what I know:
He claims that water was spilled on the computer and it stopped working. I have no other details about what caused this problem or if this was even the culprit. I figured the logic board was toast and was going to harvest parts for another broken Macbook I own but what do you know, it seemed to boot up! When it first starts booting I get maybe a one to two second glimpse of the gray screen then all black, then a little later I see a one to five second glimpse of the blue screen and "starting os x" with progress bar then back to black. Next I tried plugging into an external monitor and "viola", it works fine! How sweet! The System Profiler tells me that I'm running the Intel GMA 950 chipset but under Display Connector it says "Status: No Display Connected". Then it lists my external HDMI TV. In summary, I have a black screen but everything else works great.
I'm suspecting that I may be able to fix this and without replacing the logic board. Does anyone have any info that could help me pinpoint the problem? I have another broken Macbook that definitely has a bad logic board but quite probably the other parts are sound.
    Thanks in advance!!!!!

Update: the iSight camera is not working either. Could this be a cable? How would I isolate?

  • Just snipping wires to remove a completely broken display

I know there's been a bunch of topics posted on repairing/replacing a broken screen, but...
I've got a Powerbook Ti with a completely inop screen and two broken hinges (yes, I dropped it badly!). The laptop works fine with an external monitor.
The only thing keeping the screen attached to the rest of the laptop at this point is some plastic still intact and a few thin wires.
Can I just snip them off, and use the computer with an external monitor (without going through all the pain of dismantling the rest of the computer)?

Hi, tool119, and welcome to Apple Discussions. Two of those wires are for the display backlight and the pulsing sleep light. I suspect you could just cut them with no ill effects. But the LVDS (video data) cable is a bundle of tiny coaxial cables containing many wires not much thicker than a hair. The likelihood of pressing the cut ends of some of those conductors together so that when powered again, they short out and potentially damage your Powerbook's video circuitry (which is all soldered onto the main logic board), seems high to me. I wouldn't risk it. If you do decide to go ahead, I recommend cutting that cable with a very thin, sharp blade such as an X-Acto knife or a new single-edge razor blade, to keep crushing action to an absolute minimum. And of course make sure there is no power being supplied to the PB while you do any of the cutting: unplug the AC adapter, remove the main battery, and leave it that way for an hour to let the internal backup battery drain too. Then cross your fingers and cut if you must.
If it were my Powerbook, I'd open it and disconnect the cables properly.

  • How to download photos with broken display

I accidentally dropped my Lumia 820 and want to download my photos now. But the display is so broken that I cannot enter the PIN code and hence cannot connect the phone via USB to my laptop. Is there any way around entering the PIN? All my photos are still on the phone memory and I would hate to lose them!

Unfortunately not as wouldn't then be a security feature. For future reference consider use of SkyDrive to backup images to the "Cloud" as they are taken: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/store/app/skydrive/ad543082-80ec-45bb-aa02-ffe7f4182ba8

  • Broken Display? (white noise, horiz. lines) MBP

Got a problem with my 17" Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz...
When connecting an external display, I can still view the extended screen.

It works from time to time and usually tilting the screen fixes the screen back to normal but I can't do it anymore and its stuck like this:

When applying pressure or twisting the bezel slightly, I can get the image to display but as soon as I let go, it goes back:
    http://imgur.com/eyLSO.jpg
What's wrong?? Loose connection somewhere? I've checked the display cable, but only the connection to the logic board. I didn't get to check inside the bezel to see if the cable connection there was solid.
I just checked and the laptop is still under warranty...going to go the apple store early tomorrow. Do you think they'll figure it out and repair it or do I have a better chance of receiving a new/refurb one?
    http://imgur.com/wyci2.png
    Thanks in advance!

By all means take it in. It looks like some sort of problem with the internal display, and I expect the repair would be to replace the display as a unit. I think you are onto something with the idea of a poor or broken contact somewhere, but I don't know that they would try to fix something like that.
Most likely they would repair your Mac rather than replacing it. It might not be a bad idea to run the Apple Hardware test to see if there is anything else that might need to be fixed before the warranty expires--like maybe your hard drive.
    Good luck!
