Broken firewire ports - boot problems - target mode help needed

HI there,
I have a 15" macbook pro from 2008 with core 2 duo cpu etc.
It has recently developed the problem of hanging during the boot process with a blue screen, taking around 5 minutes to get to the login screen.
Much research has led me to the solution of removing two files from the SYSTEM > LIBRARY > EXTENSIONS folder relating to the firewire bus (?) and this has solved the issues about booting. (IOFirewireIP.kext and IOFirewireFamily.kext)
(I put on a clean install of 10.6.3 and the screen stayed blue. Removing these two files in target mode fixed this problem.)
There is still a sleep problem though - i.e. the machine does not wake from manual sleep (Apple menu) or if the system sleeps after the time allocated in the energy saving preferences.
There are so many suggestions on the web, it's almost impossible to know what the correct course of action is.
Another strange thing is, is that I can boot into target mode and access the drive via the firewire (400) port from another mac.
If the port were truly broken, how come it still works in target mode?
Is it possible that the firewire interface is not broken, but disabling these two files above could eliminate another associated problem?
Also, is there an online resource, or walkthrough, to eliminate what could be causing the sleep problems?
I would appreciate someone's suggestions on this and thank you for your help in advance!

Strangely, after installing a clean 10.6.3 - I've updated to 10.6.8 and the firewire ports are suddenly back and being reported in system profiler (whereby they were not before).
The two files I deleted above have been re-instated through the updates - and all seems well.
I've yet to check the sleep mode problem - but the firewire has at least sorted itself out...
That's a bonus!

Canon XH A1S broken firewire port

Hi Guys,
Disastrous news today from Canon repairs- the firewire out on my camera needs replacing.
The cost of the repair is close to the price of a second hand camera!
So, I am trying to think of a work-around.
One suggestion is to find a consumer-grade HD digital camera that has a firewire port
that I can use to transfer my tapes into FCE.
If the file size is the same as the copy I made from the Canon camera, then
theoretically the image quality will be the same?
I am not sure if any of the companies made some kind of a viewing device (not
a recorder) that has a firewire out on it? That would be another possibility if
such a device exists and I can track one down.
If anybody has any suggestions or ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Well I tracked down a Sony HDR HC3 which has a firewire connection, but when I put a tape shot on my Canon XH AiS I got a message reading "change tape format".
I noticed that the image could be seen as it was being fast-forwarded and fast-backwards but would not play.
I shot a couple of minutes on the Canon but changed the setting from 25p to 50i, then put the tape back in the Sony and it worked perfectly.
The problem is all of my tapes that need ingesting have been shot at 25p.
If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.

BROKEN FIREWIRE PORT?

I have for a long time not been able to use my firewire sound card with my MBP in 2010. I have tried using a newcable and also tested on other computers where it works perfectly. The sound card works perfecly on my friends MBP 2010.
I checked the system info and saw one FireWire 800port was listed. After that I tried to hook up my video camera with firewire so I checked again in system info but now it says"No FireWire ports found". Have tried to restore from the OS X disc and reset PRAM and NVRAM. Still, it says "No FireWireports found".
I ran disk utility to see if it would help but it didn't.
PLEASE HELP WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Saddly no, the warranty (http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/) does not cover damage done to the system.
The Firewire port is integrated with the logic board so most likely it would require a full logic board replacement. Can't really give you an exact price on that but its 300.00+ USD.

ALL disks HIDDEN on desktop after TARGET MODE. help ....

just a short story to tell. i got myself a MP 8core. this one i started in Target Mode to maintain my old G5 with some last gadgets before ebay-resell.
then i DIDN´t eject the disks but shut down my new "TargetMode" mac. well i know there comes a warning message "don´t you do that" ... after reboot, all three harddisks inside are HIDDEN, which means NOT ON DESKTOP !. never had it before since 1997 !
i tried following: reboot with deleting parameter-ram (cmd-alt-p-r), repairing access privileges, making them visible with onyx to delete the .DS store - files, now i got a "client node" file from cloning my startup-disk to one of those three disks. and yes, finder´s settings are clear to me. i´ve run out of track, knowledge, time, nerves, ... anybody any idea ??

Try the following:
Go to your Utilities folder and open Terminal. For each hidden non-startup volume, type the following line into the Terminal window, substituting the exact name of the drive volume for NameOfDrive. Keep the quotation marks if that name contains any spaces:
sudo chflags nohidden /Volumes/"NameOfDrive"
Type Return, enter your admin password at the prompt (it will not echo on the screen), and type Return again.
If the startup drive is also hidden, enter this command as well:
sudo chflags nohidden /
If a drive icon re-appears on the Desktop but not the on the sidebar, go back to Finder Preferences>Sidebar and uncheck/recheck the appropriate box, then relaunch the Finder (or log out/in).

up sptltrex. We though setting the SAPLOCALHOSTFULL to ourworld-0.sap.serco.com had fixed this issue, but this generated many iview errors that
could not be found. When the SAPLOCALHOSTFULL was backed out everything
began to display again. Although there is still intermittant errors of screens not acting as required.

We have had numerous OSS messages for various continuing problems on the system. Today we have an complete up-to-date as possible patched system. SPS 9 with all the latest sub patches also. We have installed AIX TL 05 with service pack 2 so oslevel -s shows 5300-05-02 + a related db APAR, the IBM java JDK is SRS06. Full earlywatch go-live check parameters and options have been completed.
But still we have problems.
can anybody help......it's urgent....

We have a 3-server portal installation with one j2ee dispatcher and two
j2ee servers on each server.
We are experiencing major issues with the consistency or
synchronisation between the servers and availability of portal applications.
For example the themes editor is only available on sptl1 server0, so if
you are lucky and log onto that server you can use this application.
THIS IS ONE OF MANY examples of this type of issue. How can we ensure
that the landscape is consistent? Screen shots from sptl1 showing the
themes application being available and not available.
A simple look at the filesystem reveals the following, and only the
themes editor directory and contents are on sptl1.

LENOVO 3000 N200 MAJOR BOOT PROBLEMS - CAN YOU HELP?

I have am running Vista on an N200 which 10 months old. Booting up problems have been occurring intermittently since first receipt but now it will not get past the less than helpful Lenovo Rescue and Recovery 4 screens. I can get to the screen asking for keyboard type and then the identification of the operating system however when I click on OK I get the message below:
You must log on to access System Recovery Options contact your admisistrator for assistance?
My Question is - How can I log onto anything if I cannot boot the system? When i click OK on the message screen i fall into the perpetual loop of boot, Rescue and Recovery 4 to the same screen which kick me out again!
I have tried F8 on boot up but just end up back at the Rescue and Recovery circus. The Bios seems to be ok. I has version 3.03 but reset to defaults in frustration as nothing was working anyhow.
Can anyone shed any light on this really frustrating problem?

What a terrible service from Lenovo. Well after many phone calls to what turned out to be a call centre in Romania. and after being promised a replacement drive day after day one finally turned up. Even after fully explaining what I needed I was sent the wrong drive they sent me a DVD Rom and not the DVD Rewriter that was in my original laptop. The same Romanians have promised me the correct one on Monday. I will wait and see. I have little faith in Lenovo and their whole very poor support network. Quite frankly the drive should never have broken in only 3 weeks and after only approx 8 uses.
I wonder what will turn up

so i have a lenovo G550
there's only dos ( i know its stupid,but it's a long story)
i want to boot my windows xp cd,but the laptop can't read the cd
i've looked for the problem..and the problem is:
PXE-E61 : Media test failure, check cable
i've read in many boards that i have to make a bios update
but how can i make a bios update via DOS?

change boot order ( 1-cdrom 2-hard drive ) and try windows xp cd if it boots.
it is not possible to update bios on dos.
pxe-e61 means :
you need to remove the hard disk out and put it back in and if it doesn't work then you have to replace your hdd

Boot Problem - Archive Install Help

Tonight my laptop froze, I had to do a force restart. Unfortunately it would not start, the Apple logo and the spinning bars went on endlessly. I proceeded to use the installation cd to do a disk repair, however that fails. The details read, "This Disc cannot be repaired". As a result, I proceeded to try DiskWarrior and Techtool Pro but neither of those seem to be working with 10.6.6.
I have a timemachine backup but it's a few days old and I would like to avoid losing my data. If I use the installation cd to do a fresh install of the OS, is there a way to do so without losing my data? If so can someone please walk me through the process? This happened awhile back and I thought I was doing it correctly but when it was done all my data was gone. I'd like to avoid that from occurring yet again.

It sounds like your disk has died.
I suggest running AHT. If AHT reports hardware errors, it might be time to take it to Apple for repair.

Zen Micro Photo Recovery Mode Problem !! Help needed plea

I just purchased a white zen micro photo last week. As I was putting music onto my ZMP, my computer ( Dell Windows XP ) froze. I disconnected my player and when I went to turn on my ZMP, I found out that it went into Recovery Mode. I tried all the possible ways that it listed to do.
Clean Up (when I pressed that one, nothing happened .. the screen didn't even change)</LI>
Format All (When I pressed that one, the screen seemed to .. freeze .. but it had a smear of lines .. ?)</LI>
Reload Firmware (I never had firmware on my ZMP to begin with)</LI>
Reboot (It turned off and It turned back on like it's supposed to but when it turned back on, it was in recovery mode again)</LI>
My ZMP does not even turn off. This is wasting the battery so please help me. I have emailed Creative but they have not replyed yet.

You must have had firmware on there if it worked, but "reload firmware" actually erases the firmware. It's a badly named function.
Unfortunately though you've tried all you can as a user. The player sounds faulty and you ought to contact Creative support for a replacement.

16:9 Problem...Help needed....

I am using FCE 3.5 on my intel iMac to produce movies. I use a combination of pictures created on photoshop and random videos in my movies. I need my final output (which is on dvd) to play on a 16:9 plasma screen.
Up to now, I have been creating my photoshop pictures in .tiff formats in 1920x1080 resolutions so that they will appear full screen on the plasma. My sequence setting in FCE is "DV NTSC 48kHz anamorphic"
I would then use the "export to quicktime" function, and drop the reference file into idvd 6.0.2 to create the dvd. No problems until recently.
In the past 2 weeks, whenever I create a dvd in idvd, my movie gets squashed into 4:3 format. This happens on the dvd preview in idvd, and the completed dvd played in a dvd player.
Can anyone help? Thanks..:)

I accidentally replace stock "framework-res.apk' in system/framework folder with another version from different A2107 rom...now my A2107A-H freeze at smal lenovo boot logo...
i try to flash it with twrp recovery & firmware from here:

I have updated my CS4, Ppro to 4.2.1. The problem still remains. Would it have anything to do with my project setting? I don't have much knowledge to setting one up. The difference between the AVC projects and etc?
EDIT : I took the problem to my lecturer, and he didn't do anything out of the ordinary, but his "magic touch" click on the preview panel (Main composition) has made the video show up! But even after render, it won't play. But scrubbing along frames is now fixed. Any idea what's causing the no-preview-playback?

Cannot boot into Recovery Mode but need to reinstall OS X, any suggestions?

My Mac boot is stuck at the Apple logo with a progress bar, and even when booting Recovery Mode (Command+R) it is stuck. Hence I don't think I can use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what to do? Thanks!

FYI:
I have tried booting into Single User Mode, using fsck to repair permissions, but to no avail. However in the Single User Mode I did notice something unusual. When trying to reboot using the command 'exit', a long list of errors came out.
Most were Library/Extensions/... .kext is not authentic; omitting from prelinked kernel.
Some errors were ...: No such file or directory
And afterwards the errors were stuck there and no reboot occurred. I also couldn't type anything.

Blackberry Storm Problems...Help Needed ASAP

Soooo...for some strange reason i bought a BB Storm : / when i got it (yesterday), i charged it and it charged up fine. but the battery ran down rather quickly. So i am now tryin 2 charge it up again and it is not giving one bit of charge. i just left it for 3 hours and came back to check it and it went dead...i did a battery pull twice and still nothing. what is my next move???

Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
Remove the battery
Wait 15 minutes
Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.

Chess: Java Swing problem!! Help need

Hi, I have just learn java swing and now creating a chess game. I have sucessfully create a board and able to display chess pieces on the board. By using JLayeredPane, I am able to use drag and drop for the piece. However, there is a problem which is that I can drop the chess piece off the board and the piece would disappear. I have try to solve this problem by trying to find the location that the chess piece is on, store it somewhere and check if the chess piece have been drop off bound. However, I could not manage to solve it. Also, I am very confuse with all these layer thing.
Any suggestion would be very helpful. Thanks in advance

I wonder if you are biting off a little more than you can chew. This seems like a big project for a beginning coder. Anyway, my suggestions can only be general since we only have general information:
1) Break the big problem down into little pieces. Get the pieces working, then put them together.
2) Make sure your program logic is separate from your GUI.
3) If still having problems, post an SSCCE. See this link to tell you how:
