Broken graphics card affecting motherboard of HP Pavilion Entertainment PC SD*MS/Pro*MMC*XD

Hi guys,
I need help with this: my laptop broke two weeks ago. After having a technician look at it I was told the problem could easily be fixed my HP.
Basically he said my graphics card broke and it affected the motherboard, he said this was something easy to fix and that I could send it to HP to be fixed.
When I switch the lap top on, the screen is blank and it beeps 3 times. Apparently there's nothing else wrong with it except for this. Prior to this happening my screen went funny for about 2 weeks until it 'died' one day.
The operating system installed is Windows XP.
No changes made to the system before this incident.
Full product name: HP Pavilion Entertainment PC SD*MS/Pro*MMC*XD
Please let me know where I can send it to and if this is free-of-charge since it's a recurring problem with some HP notebooks.
Thank you for your help.
 Brds,
Joana Antunes

  • How can I recover files from an iMac 2009 with a broken graphic card.

My old iMac has a broken graphics card. Instead of getting it replaced or fixed I needed a computer quickly. I decided to get a MacPro. I'm able to boot up the old iMac and my MacPro can now read the files in the iMac. I have been transferring files from the old iMac to the MacPro via ethernet connection as the USB to USB was running slow. Is there a faster way to transfer the files between the two?
Is there a way I can delete the files on the iMac when I'm done transferring the files I wanna keep? Right now it won't let me delete anything from the iMac hard drive especially the locked Files.
Is there a way I can connect another monitor to the iMac if it has a broken graphics card? I'm assuming it's the graphics card cause I researched it on youtube and my iMac has the same screen they're describing when you have a graphics card issue.
    Thanks.

What is the iMac model? Does it have Thunderbolt? Do you have Firewire? Can you connect them via any combination of Firewire & Thunderbolt?
Thunderbolt & Firewire support something called 'target disk mode'
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
OS X Mountain Lion: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
That will allow you to see the iMac as an 'external hard disk'. They are the fastest way to access the full disk.
At the moment it sounds like you are using file sharing over ethernet - this is not the way to access everything on the iMac's disk & will result in you failing to copy data that you don't have read permission.
You can also erase the iMacs HD over target disk mode if you really want to remove the OS & data.
I don't believe it is possible to connect up two Macs via USB to USB so please clarify what you used. You may have been doing the right thing before you switched to ethernet.
    EDIT:
Nevermind about the model, 2009 iMacs didn't have Thunderbolt so you will need to use Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt.

  • Qosmio G30-177 broken graphic card

    Hi,
it looks like i have a broken graphic card in my G300.
The boot screen (selection of boot media) looks like the matrix ;-(
While windows is booting it looks like vertical stripes. The boot process crashes with a blue screen.
This is both in the internal display and an external monitor.
Is my idea of the broken graphic card right?
Can the graphic card be replaced?
    Yours Rdiger

    Hi Rdiger
I have the same problem and effect like you with my G30-155 since today afternoon.
I am really asking me now what big chance it can be that we both have the same problem at the same time.
Can it not be that we both got a virus that effected the grafic card ?
Any help and tips are very welcome.
    Regards Charly

  • Question about graphics card and motherboard

My laptop is a dv6500 CTO. I have the geforce 8400M GS video/graphics card in my laptop. Recently I was playing a game and my computer locked up. I restarted my computer and had a message from Windows 7 saying my graphics card stopped working. I than checked my device manager and it said the card was working properly. Well now it dies if I am watching a video, playing any game it lasts for about 5 mins.
I than went to the device manager and disable my card. Before my card was disabled, I was still able to loud windows fine. This is where I have my biggest question. If I disable my card, than why is it that I can still use my computer? Does the motherboard have a small chipset for video besides the graphics card? Is this graphics card welded on the motherboard or can I replace it?
I always thought on laptops the graphics card was part of the motherboard and if it went out than my screen would go out and that would be the end of it. Is that not true? Thanks for the help.

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion p6-2371ea Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with Windows 8 and a 300 watt power supply. To use the GTX 650 Ti you will need to upgrade the power supply to a 500 watt or 600 watt unit. The Corsair CX500 and CX600 are known to fir most HP comsumer desktop computer cases and come highly recommended. The next thing you need to do is DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the BIOS. Doing these things should resolve your issue.

  • Graphic Card not shown for HP Pavilion 15-n027sl

Hi, I upgraded this laptop to Windows 8.1 , I've installed last AMD CCC Drivers but my games recognise only my internal graphic card (HD 8330) and not the HD 8670M, in permormance mode and in battery save mode. The PC recognises this card, but I don't know if I'm using it. Benchmarks shows only the internal one.

  • New graphics card not working in old Pavilion elite

Hey, so i bought a new graphics card, ASUS strix 750ti oc ed., when i plug it in to my Pavilion elite hpe 531sc i get a blue screen with the hp logo and a text saying 'press esc for startup menu' or something like that. Pressing esc does nothing, pressing any other button does me nothing either.
I tried plugging in the old graphics card, it still sort of works except i cant really play games or get my resolution above 800x600, and install the drivers and all for the new graphics card. But the new graphics card still dont work when plugged back in.
So im at a loss here, is my desktop simply too old or something?

Seeing alot of postings about trying that card.  See this thread on a possible solution:

  • Asus Gforce 4 graphics cards & K7T motherboards

    I have a 1.3GHz Athlon running on a MSI K7T Turbo Vers3.0 motherboard.
I am trying to get my Asus Gforce 4 128Mb graphics card to work on with it.  It will handle 2D graphics fine but when you try to get it to do any 3D graphics it crashes the program or resets the computer.  Very strange problem.

    Hi,

  • Broken graphics card

I have a iMac 20"2.66ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. And have been told by the Apple Support Dept. That my Graphics Card is broken etc. would I be able to use this computer as a screen/display only with Mac mini plugged to it?

Thanks for the advice. I can only start this iMac in Safe Boot and wanted to make best use of an otherwise o.k. Computer. I thought that I could hook up a Mini mac to it. Yep,I think I will be looking for a new mac.

  • Broken graphics card on iMac - how to access hard drive?

    Hi,
it seems like the graphics card (NVIDIA GTX 680M) in my 27'' iMac late 2012 is fried.
On start up there is the chime but no white screen or Apple logo. It stays black and goes a bit dark grayish around the edge of the panel.
So I guess the panel works and therefore the GPU doesn't.
After a few seconds a frayed wide vertical blue line appears, where normally the login box would be.
After typing the password in blind, the whole screen just fills with frayed vertical blue lines.
Now since I'm obviously unable to maneuver with the mouse, is there a way to somehow remotely access my files without it having to use the GPU of the iMac (some sort of Terminal commands I can type in blindly).
I have a spare Macbook Pro mid 09.
Both machines a running the latest OS X Version/Update.
    Hope somebody can help.
    Thanks!

two possibilities, and a choice that depends more on your mood than anything else.
Start up the broken machine in target mode, hook it up to the working computer, and transfer whatever files you need.
Connect an external monitor (on the suspicion this is a display problem rather than a graphics card problem; the latter are rarer) and use your computer (almost) normally
there are other things you could do if needed, but these are the easiest.

  • Blac kscreen after windows logo - broken graphics card?

    Model: HP Notebook PC G62-b41EO
    Product: XX509EA
Windows 7 Ultimate (Originally Windows 7 Home Premium)
While editing a video for YouTube, I got a bluescreen and my notebook PC shut down. When I restarted it everything was normal, until Windows had loaded, and after that everything went black.
I am almost certain that this is a graphics card problem:
    * When I disable the graphics driver in the Windows Device Manager I can start the computer normally.
    * In the device manager I get an error message on the GPU, saying that it couldn't boot because it isn't functioning properly.
The graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 Graphics (switchable)
I tried several things, nothing has worked:
    * Updated graphics driver
    * Did a system restore, reinstalled operating system
    * Did a system check in startup options
    * Did a hard reset
    * Connected an external display, this caused another bluescreen.
My guess is that the graphics card just had enough and died. My 1 year warranty period is over. What can I do?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The only fix is a new motherboard or have the motherboard repaired.
This ebay seller is an example of the services that are out there. You can save quite a bit if you can remove the motherboard from the chassis:
