Broken "H" Key

OK, so here is the problem. A few months ago, I had a problem with my "H" key and it kept sticking.. I brought it to the genius bar where the guy popped it off, removed whatever was making it stick, and then put it back on. Ever since then, it seems that the key likes to pop off my itself. It doesn't come completely off, but the right side will come up and then I will have to press it down to snap it into place. This will keep it for a few strokes and then up it pops again. Clearly the guy at the genius bar did something and I'm not too happy, but is there anything they will be able to do if I bring it back to the apple store? It will have to be a different store since I currently live in a different state than the one I originally brought it to. Thanks!

    No, it is the only button and method that can switch it on.

  • How do I access my iPod Touch (5th Generation). Broken Home Key, Locked Screen, No assistive touch currently off and no access to itunes on original PC.

    So a friend had damaged her iPod touch by dropping it some time ago. It has been sitting in her drawer ever since (she got a new device). It is now out of warranty and she said I could have it, but only catch is i'd have to fix it some how.
    Problems are:
    1) iPod is locked - She doesn't know the passcode it was set to.
    2) Home key broken - Unable to do a reset as per the many links I see online.
    3) Assistive touch is off - Unable to turn this on as the phone is locked and I can't unlock it.
    4) We no longer have access to the original PC that it was sync'd with. I've managed to get it linked to my itunes but can't do anything with it do to the fact it won't let me as iPod is locked.
    So basically it almost seems there is nothing that can be done but would appreciate your help if possible. Ideally if I can get it unlocked without losing the data so I can keep the music that is on there it would be good. If not then a full reset is fine.
    Can this be done? Can we turn on assistive touch without unlocking the phone and no home key? Please help,

    Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:
    For PC
    RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
    iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
    If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
    You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
    Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Broken ALT-key

    I was trying to clean my keyboard with my vacuum, when two of the keys came off.
    I was able to sift through the vacuum bag and recover them and the snap-on connectors.
    But one of the connectors was broken, so I was able to replace the E-key, but not the ALT-key.
    So is there somewhere I can just buy the snap-on connector without having to replace the entire keyboard?
    Thanks!

    you could try something like ebay, Lenovo only sells whole keyboard, not individual parts.

  • Broken enter key

    Hello,
    My display on my MacBook Pro had recently died so i got it repaired about a month ago, it wasn't under warranty but was a known hardware issue so was replaced free of charge. I was also told i got a 3 month warranty of some sort.
    Since i got it back i found out my enter key is now broken. When using it would sometimes fall off and id have to re-attach it. From what i can see when the enter key comes off is one of the tiny plastic clips is snapped off which i think causes this.
    Would this warranty i got from the known hardware issue cover this? I'm also sure that my enter key was fine before i got it repaired so im pretty sure that Apple Support may have broke it.
    a picture can be attached if required
    Thanks,
    Lachlan

    Would this warranty i got from the known hardware issue cover this?
    Probably not; warranties on a repair usually only apply to the issue of the repair. But you can call Apple and discuss it with them.
    I'm also sure that my enter key was fine before i got it repaired so im pretty sure that Apple Support may have broke it.
    Again, call and discuss it with Apple tech support. You may have a hard time convincing them that it wasn't broken when you sent the system in, but you can talk it over with them.
    If it's the key cap itself that's broken and not the switch, you can order a new key cap. PowerBookMedic is one source, though the shipping to Australia may well be multiple times what the key cap itself will cost. Perhaps there's a source of parts in Australia, though I haven't found one when doing a quick search.
    EDIT: AB's advice is well taken: don't delay in reporting the broken key, to Apple if they repaired the system or to the service center if your MBP was repaired by an independent service center. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be for you to convince them that the system was damaged in their keeping or during shipment.

  • Broken XS key

    my baby daughter has broken my keyboard and XS key..does anyone know how I get another?? (XS key that is) . I am in in the UK. Apple wont speak to me unless I give them 35pounds..god love 'em..any advice gratefully received

    The only way to get a replacement XSKey for Logic Express or Pro is to call Apple. However, if you haven't upgraded to the Apple versions of Logic (ie, you are still on Logic Platinum 6.3 or below) you can contact Emagic for a replacement until 1/1/2006.
    From the Emagic site:
    Defective XSKeys
    Replacement XSKeys for Emagic Logic versions 5 and 6 (blue Emagic XSKeys) will be available for purchase until January 1, 2006. After such time, customers may purchase the then current version of Apple Logic Pro, which will include an XSKey that is compatible with Emagic Logic versions 5 and 6, including all Emagic plugins. If you have any questions regarding XSKey replacement please contact [email protected] via email.

  • Help Broken keyboard key!

    Ok,
    My Aunt gave me her fairly unused apple ibook 14-inch G4 laptop. And the only problem with it is that the TAB key has broken off and i cant click it back in. If you have any ideas on how either I could possible repair it at my house, or where i can get a single key to buy online or at a store that would be great. Please help!!
    Thanks.

  • Single Broken 'T' Key on Keyboard

    A few days ago I realized my T key was a little jiggly. I didn't pay much attention to it until this morning when the plastic silver key cap completely came off. After inspecting it, I realized that one of the two tiny little claw-looking clips on the underside of it was broken off (they click onto a tiny bar on the white piece stuck to the keyboard). I can still obviously use the 'T' key now, but very, very carefully ... otherwise it just pops off again and I have to struggle for a good five minutes until the one clip latches on to the white piece attached to the board.
    This will probably sound ridiculous but is it possible to superglue something? Where would I buy a single 'T' key? Or do I have to go out of my way to a Genius Bar and pay something crazy?
    Thanks for the help in advance.

    Hi Apegeus... Welcome to the Forums.

  • Broken Shift key

    Greetings.
    My 9 month old baby managed to snap the shift key off my PBook, God love her.
    So Ive got the key itself, a flat plastic bit still attached to the key, a metal bar in a "U" shape and a loose 'u' shaped bit.
    Tried fiddling around but can't get it to go back on. Any advice?
    FWIW, the Shift function itself still works if I press the plastic stubby bit that comes out from the PB.
    Cheers.

    Hey, clever me, just searched apple database and found out how to do it.

  • Broken Command Key

    Hi all. So, this weekend after 3 1/2 years of tender love and care, I spilled coffee on my keyboard. It wasn't very much and I cleaned it off asap with napkins, but now my left command (apple) key no longer works. It isn't sticky or anything,it just does not work. The backlighting on it does still work fine so I'm not sure if the electrical connection is fried or not. What should I do? It is no longer under warranty and I don't have the moolah to pay apple or pretty much anyone else for a keyboard replacement.
    Thank You

    You should not use your computer after a "spill" for approximately 48-72 hours to make sure it is completely dry.
    Immediately disconnect all peripherals, power cord & remove the battery. Turn the computer over with the lid partly open and the hinge facing upward to let the liquid drain. Do not flop it over and lay it flat - you want to separate it from the moisture. Place paper or cloth towels under the machine to sop up the mess.
    After the computer disgorges whatever you spilled on it, don't turn it on for 72 hours or longer. You want to computer to dry out completely before turning it on again.
    Some users here swear by hairdryers. Blow drying the innards may bake whatever was in the liquid onto delicate computer components. Better to let the computer air dry.
    Use plain tepid water to clean out the computer. If you spilled iced beverage more than likely this ice fried the hot motherboard.
    Sugary, acidic or milky drinks will almost always cause problems later on as the residue starts slowly corroding the computer innards.
    Swab down any sticky parts with distilled water or denatured alcohol.
    If none of the above works, you will need to take the computer to a repair shop. Since you do not have Apple Care, start saving your money.

  • Broken M key.

    I got my Blackberry Curve 8330 for christmas yesterday. (Pre-Used)
    Everything works fine on it, except the M key is unresponsive. I've tried restarting it, and removing the battery, but I can't get it to work. Is there a possibility this is a software issue, and if so, how could I fix it?
    If it's a Hardware issue, how much do you think it would cost to get repaired?

    Bump*

  • Broken arrow keys?

    For some reason, the down and right keys aren't working. They work fine in other programs but in this program they fail. What's going on?
    paddle_ybase = paddle._yscale;
    paddleSpeed = 0;
    onEnterFrame = function(){
    if(Key.isDown(Key.UP)){paddleA._y -= 1;}
    if(Key.isDown(Key.DOWN)){paddeA._y += 1;}
    if(Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)){paddleA._x -= 1;}
    if(Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)){paddeA._x += 1;}
    steam(7);
    paddle._rotation = paddleSpeed;
    function steam(num){
    for(i=0;i<num;i++) {
        var k:MovieClip = boiler.attachMovie("air","air"+i ,boiler.getNextHighestDepth());
        k._y -= Math.random()* (100 + num);
        k._x += (Math.random()* 10 -5) * (Math.random()* 10 -5);
            k._rotation += Math.random()* 90 - 45;
        k.gotoAndPlay(Math.ceil(Math.random()*16));
        k._xscale = k._yscale += Math.random()* 177 - Math.random()* 100;
        if(k.hitTest(paddleA)){paddleSpeed++;}

    if you're testing in the flash test environment, disable shortcut keys.  retest.
