Broken "hinge"/ casing - left side

The casing around the left hinge of my laptop has ceased to exist, as in the plastic around the hinge has completely broken off and there is nothing that I can screw the hinge into. The laptop was not dropped, in fact it was very gently opened and closed each time, yet this seems to have occurred to my, much like to hundreds of HP customers (as I've read online that this seems to be an ongoing issue for many years with HP laptops).
How does HP advise that I proceed?

Did you ever fix this? My daughters is the same. Treated with tender loving care, we reset to factory and it disappeared but was back again after 2 or 3 days. Still in warranty so going to take to the genius bar, however a bit concerned that because it belongs to an 11 year old they are going to assume she's damaged it.

The left side of the hinge cover on my Macbook Pro, is this something I should be concerned about?

The black plastic hinge cover on my Macbook Pro has a loose left side, it feels like it's not against the hinges like the other side is. When I push down on the cover it feels like there's empty space between the cover and what I assume to be the hinges. I was wondering if this is something I can repair myself or if I need to take it to Apple? I have coverage for hardware issues until April 2012.

If its covered just take it in. If you tinker with it and something else happens to it you void the warranty. My philosophy is, if there is a warranty, use it.m that's why they were created. To protect the buyer in cases like yours

HP Envy left side hinge / case separation

The case on my daughters HP Envy 17 is separating at the left side hinge. Recently, she noticed that each time she opens or closes the laptop, the stress from the hinge causes the case to separate and there is a popping sound.
(We can hear a small piece of metal or plastic shifting in the case if I tip it to one side or the other) The laptop has always been carefully handled and it almost never leaves her desktop.
I thought that perhaps the hinge was defective on this particular unit until I found the volume of complaints that are posted here and on locations on the internet.
I would guess that it is out of warrantee so I don't actually "expect" HP to do anything. However, given the number of complaints, it would be exceptionally wonderful if HP provide a solution for us. Up until this point, this has been a good laptop that has met our expectations. However, if we have to pay to send it in and get it repaired, we will probably choose to replace it with a laptop from another vendor.

My ipad mini screen is broken on left side

Hi. When I trying to touch on the left side it dosent touch. When I type it is hard to touch space bar. And when I try to exit full screen mode on youtube it dosent touch. Can anyone tell how to fix it?

If there is no evidence of abuse, these are the charges. If there is evidence of abuse, Apple will return your damaged unit to you.

Left side battery indicator broken

I'd recently upgrade my Macbook Pro 2012 mid 13" with a new Samsung SSD Evo 840.
The installation went soomth, but now my left side battery indicator won't show how much battery is left on my Mac when i press it.
Anyone else whom may have faced this issue?

Is the battery charge indicated at the right side of the menu bar? If you go to the apple at the left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power does the charge remaining divided by the capacity come out the same as the indicate battery percentage?
Since you replaced the hrd drive with an SSD which is not considered a user upgrade for the 2012 model Apple will not help or repair any damage you may have done.

S-3 Broken Hinges - Horrible Customer Experience

I've had my netbook for less than 6 months (maybe used it less than 20 times all together), and the hinges of one side of my computer broke while I was opening my computer today. I called Lenovo and found out that I have to pay shipping and labor fee to get this fixed even though the person I talked to acknowledged that it was build damage. The woman stressed that it was company policy: you had to pay $80+etc; she mentioned how that this would be the case even if I wanted to go into a store and ask them to look at it.The woman also mentioned that it was this amount because I didn't have accidental damage coverage, which confused me as I made it specifically clear that I did nothing.
This left me infuriated as I would assume a warranty would ensure your product would last more than a few months, you know.
I guess I'm looking for answers to several questions:
1) Does Lenovo's warranty actually cover anything? Beyond shipping, this is, which was what the person I called to made it sound like.
2) The last time I had any problems with computers was a few years back. Are the warranties for computers this awful across the board nowadays?
3) I looked at Lenovo's spare parts website and see that they sell replacements for hinges, but it encompasses the whole board. I only want a hinge for one side of my computer. I've kind of resigned myself to the damage the hinge did to the casing of my computer.
Needless to say, I'm never buying their products again. It was a god awful experience.

Pavilion G7 Hinge Casing

Fixed loose screw on right hinge of G7 Pavilion, week later both sides popped out, left side casing broke and totally out, right side metal popped out screen attached, literally by thread ... trying to hold together and prop back up with something. Cannot afford to repair obvious by number of complaints design flaw, should be recall, free replacement screen. I cannot afford not to have the computer ie mail for and time to repair ... keep elderly, sick parents, literal lifeline..

Broken Hinges 2nd Time!

The hinges on my laptop have broken for the 2nd time! Simply opening and closing my laptop. The left side hinge failed closely followed by the right hand side. The first time this happened it was only on the left side and was repaired through the UK reseller (PC world).
Very frustrating as my warranty has now probably lapsed and this is obviously a design fault judging by the amount of people complaining of the same issues. Is there a modification HP have made or else this is going to continue to happen to lots of users by putting the hinge-load through the flimsy plastic backing.

HP Envy 15-JO63CL broken hinge problem

My hinge on the right side of the laptop has broken. This is obviously from a manufacturing flaw, because I have babied this thing because I need it for work. The screw for the right hinge falls out, and little chunks of plastic sound like they are rattling around inside of it. When I open and close the laptop it pries open along the right edge.
I bought this laptop 8 month ago, but it says I am out of warranty.
Can you please help me fix this issue? This was an expensive laptop and the hinge should not wear out after only 8 month of very gently use.
Also, after some research it has become obvious that this is common problem for this laptop, and HP laptops in general.

This is my 5th HP laptop and I haven't had any issues until this one. I have an HP Envy that is just over a year old and the left side hinge is pulling out of the laptop and pushing the top of the keyboard section up when I try to close it.   The laptop hasn't been dropped or damaged in any way. What can I do?

i want to list all tabs to left side in a window like ctrl+b makes all bookmarks to left side to window . tried 'tile tabs ' add on it is useless .any one suggest me the shortcut or add on.

The link to the actual plug-in seems to be broken. Any one else see this? The "Add To Firefox" button actually points to the "Hide My Ass IP Checker" Add-on instead of the Tree Style Tab add-on.

Sounds like you need a #1SMC Reset

Disconnect other non-Apple and external hardware except (if applicable) a mouse and keyboard until your finished repairing your machine.
Problems solved: Fans blowing with no activity, machine is not booting, power button pressed and nothing happens, problems with indicators, Magsafe has wrong lights, battery is not charging, monitor and graphics issues etc. If the battery is not charged (from like letting it sleep too long), let the Mac charge up awhile afterwards.
Will not hurt the machine resetting if it's not broken.
Other related hardware problems (optional):
Check battery status: Hold option/alt key down while clicking on the battery icon in the menu bar, top right corner.
Magsafe: Use the correct/matching power supply charger with your Mac, not a less powered one from another Mac.

You should take it to an Apple store or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) Carefully inspect the hinge joint and make sure there is no debris that you can see, you can try carefully sliding some sticky tape thru the joint to clear any loose stuff out. But this sounds like there might be more going on here, and the hinge is something that you do not want to fool with.

Firefox Doesn't Load Any Website and Scroll Bar Switches to the Left Side of the Screen??

First let me say this is a work computer that I am using, so there is plenty of virus protection and firewall. I have always used firefox for all my casual internet browsing and work network needs. I recently updated to the latest version of firefox and that is when I started having problems. Almost any web page I go to wether it is my work intranet home page or a common site such as google mozilla will not finish loading the page. If I hit refresh or try to go to another site it gets wierd and the scroll bar switches to the left side of the screen and the page seems to be stuck loading. At this point almost nothing responds to any mouse clicks except for closing the firefox window. If I go to tools --> options it brings up a blank options window with only the "ok" and "cancel" buttons displayed. Help please, I don't like using IE, but right now that is my only option.

Broken hinge

BROKEN HINGE/SCREEN!!! My last HP was two years old when the right hinge started acting funny, I babied it but to no avail it broke. It broke on the inside as well as the outside, like came unattached inside. I chauled it up to being used heavily and bought a new HP (because I love them). Fast forward almost one year to the day of the new one purchase date and boom, broken again. What is funny if that my warranty was up 3 days ago and now it breaks. Seems like the hinge cover is fine, it is actually inside where it is broken. I opened the screen today and it almost came completely apart. What is the deal?

I too am suffering Toshiba`s broken hinge problem. When I called they said that they do not have a problem and never have known one break(what liars they are) when I called them up with a broken left hinge same as you. They wanted £200 to fix it and £80 just to send back to me, as they had sent it to Germany from the UK to see if there was a problem??? I have asked my Bank to refund my money that I bought the laptop (Toshiba Satellite) under the "goods not of merchantable quality" law in the UK as I had bought it on my credit card. Toshiba certainly do have a manufacturing problem with their laptops and should recognise this fact instead of employing people to deliberately tell people that they do not have any recorded problem with their hinges. I will never buy another Toshiba product ever again as the so called Guarantee is not worth the paper it is written on....

Got it in May 2010. The left hinge is almost coming off. Called up Toshiba support and after 20Qs, was told that this is a physical damage and will not be covered. It will cost 150-250$ to get this repaired. I was not satisfied with this as the laptop has been handled well and have never seen this kind of issue with any other Dell laptops I have. When I pushed back, I was told that some supervisor will view my case and probably respond on Monday (12/20/2010)
On a hunch searched for broken hinge on the site and saw a number of posts about this problem.
I am now even more convinced that there is a manufacturing defect which Toshiba has not bothered to solve. My cynical view is that getting 150$ for each of these problem might be netting a good margin.
Have posted this to add my own experience and be counted.
Will update once I speak to the aforementioned supervisor on Monday
