Broken hyperlinks after mailing

Trying to email a PDF with hyperlinks (converted PowerPoint document) that won't break. I've selected every relevant check box as applicable (Attach source file, Add Links, etc.) in Conversion Settings. Even tried creating a folder on receiver's desktop and saving all relevant files there to check hyperlinked files. Also tried updating every hyperlink "Execute Action" within Acrobat Pro and deleting original links created from noted PowerPoint document. Regardless of what I try, the links after mailing never work. It's ridicullous for what you spend on ACrobat Pro software. Can someone please help!

Do you know what PDF viewer is being used when the links don't work?

  • CS3 - Broken hyperlinks after Package Book For Print

I've posted a similar problem here a few weeks ago, but no answers, so hopefully I can get some help here with a more specific problem description...
I have created a an INDB, including several "chapter" INDD files, linked PNG images and hyperlinks to text and URL anchors throughout. Once I have everything complete, I select all the INDD files and do a "Package Book for Print", making sure the Preflight finds no problems, and then save the packaged INDB folder in a new directory on my local drive.
All works fine in the new INDB, EXCEPT that any hyperlink that points to a text anchor in a different INDD is broken.Apparently, the hyperlink is still pointing to the original INDD's absolute location rather than the new INDD text anchor within my newly packaged INDB. All Hyperlinks that point to a text anchor in the same INDD are fine.
I do not see any option to change this behavior. Strange though, that if I go to edit one of these "broken" hyperlinks, as soon as I choose the correct INDD that it should point to, then it correctly chooses the right link destination automatically in the edit dialog, so obviously it has stored the correct text anchor info, but just loses the document it should point to.
Is there any way to avoid this problem? It is a real pain to keep fixing hyperlinks every time a package my INDBs. I've heard some people use a 3rd party plugin to remedy this and other InDesign link problems (but I forget the plugin name). Suggestions??
    Thanks!

Are you talking about what I said - "Seems like in the past, I saved a copy of my book, then packaged the copy for print?"
I thought that was the only way around it. I feel certain I will not make this mistake again. Luckily, most printers I work with prefer pdfs. It's just an insane bug. If it's not a bug, it's a major flaw in the program. People do package books. The option wouldn't be in there if we didn't do it sometimes.

  • Breaking Hyperlinks in mail

When I place a long hyperlink in an e-mail message it "breaks" when received by the recipient thought it looks perfect when I send it. For instance:
It looks like this when I place a hyperlink in an e-mail message:
    http://discussions.apple.com/post!default.jspa?forumID=960
When received by the recipient it looks like this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/post!
    default.jspa?forumID=960
Only the first line is a "blue hyperlink" so the result is that by clicking on the link the don't get anywhere. This happens ALL THE TIME no matter who the recipient is and it only happens with longer links.
The frustration is I have to put a disclaimer explaining that this can happen and to "please copy and past the whole link in your browser, ..."
I received a reply as follows from .mac help:
Quote -I understand that when you include a web address in messages that you send, the link is often broken when it is received by the recipient.
The reason this is happening is because most email clients see a web address as one long word and break the URL into a second line. Because of this, only part of the address appears as a link which may be clicked on. - end Quote
They suggested I call Apple Care, which I did. Apple Care basically explained that this is a glitch and that MAIL will always automatically break long links/words after around 60 or so characters.
So the answer from Apple is there is nothing to be done about it. The guy I spoke with said this was the first he has heard of the problem so I am questioning his (lack of ) answer and seeking a second opinion, YOU!
Am I the only one who is having this problem?
I tried the option of turning a couple words (like "click here") into the hyperlink (open mail, then "new message", "Edit", "Add Hyperlink". etc and the hyperlink looks perfect to me but again, after being received there is no hyperlink, just two black words "click here" that don't take you anywhere.
    Any ideas?

It's all non-MAC using recipients, using every type of email viewer.
Your comment "If the receiver is seeing messages in plain text, that's probably the way it works...." Brings up the point that I'm SENDING in plain text (at the suggestion of Apple Care).
I did a couple of tests just now to my friend, a PC user. Sent long links in plain and rich text and guess what? They break in plain text but are intact in rich text. Same goes for the second part of my question regarding turning words like "click here" into a hyperlink. Does not work in plain text but it works just fine in rich text.
    Genius Kenichi Watanabe!
I brought up the topic of plain vs rich text with the Apple Care guy when addressing this issue. He knew I was using Plain text, I even asked if that had anything to do with it!?!?! Frustrating!
Still a bit confused about Plain vs Rich. This article helped a bit:

Thanks again! Glad you spent the time to read and answer my question.

  • Mail on MacBook won't open hyperlinks behind mail.

After updating to Yosemite 10.10.2 I no longer can open hyperlinks behind Mail. I can open them by clicking on them which takes me directly to the web page, however, some emails have multiple links which I wish to open without leaving Mail first. Prior to the OS upgrade this problem would occur with a few emails but now it happens with all emails.

    LadyC,
Quit/Force Quit Calendar, then paste this text ~/Library into the Finder>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
Next open the Calendars and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop.
Also open the Preferences Folder in the same Library, and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
Log out/in or restart, and open Calendar.

  • Hyperlinks from mail slow to open

Whenever a hyperlink in mail is selected mail goes into a 'Not responding' mode for 45 to 50 seconds before opening. Mail will then continue to work normally until another hyperlink is selected.

Yes, that was the terms of the warranty that you accepted when you purchased the phone. You had the option to purchase an extended warranty that would have covered it for 2 years, but you chose not to.

  • Hyperlinks in mail not working

Bit of an odd problem. If I click on a hyperlink in mail with Safari closed it does nothing. Again if I right and select the open option from there it does nothing. If Safari is open, irrespective of what page it's on, Safari opens in front of mail, but doesn't take me to the page it just stays on the page it opened at.. It seems to stem from my installing Chrome, which I have now uninstalled using 'CLEAN MY MAC'. When I go into Safari preferences I now expect to only see one default web browser, but the Chrome option still appears. I have tried resetting Safari. Can I delete and re install Safari or is there a plist or something that is corrupt.
    Ken

"CleanMyMac" is a scam and a common cause of instability and poor performance. The developer's instructions don't completely remove it. Follow those instructions, then do as below.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.macpaw.CleanMyMac2.Agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.macpaw.CleanMyMac2.Agent
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Never again install "CleanMyMac" or anything like it.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Hyperlinks in Mail?

I am a writer and send out links to my Internet articles to a mailing list. I assumed all received links were hyper links. A friend with a Mac was not receiving them as hyperlinks when I was sending them from my old G3 in Outlook Express. I am still sending to that list from my G3. I address them to myself with the mailing list in the bcc field.
Now, I saw one of them on my G5 and the link was not hyperlinked in Mail. Why is this? I do get hyperlinks in Mail from other sources. I find Mail kind of buggy.
For example, I still send from the G3 using OE because the mailing list groups did not import to mail as group lists. The group lists were lost. I did not want to rebuild those lists of over 500 addresses manually.
    Can the groups be imported??
    Thanks
    G5 iMac (iSight)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

edit>link is all that I am aware of, though when I use it, I copy and paste the web address in lieu of typing it in. Hopes this helps some.

  • Remove underline from hyperlink in Mail.

How can I remove the underline from hyperlinks in Mail?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks Roam.
I actually used to be able to do this, six months ago at least. Now I cannot. It is odd.  I see my older signatures and they are without the underline and I do remember being able to remove them. The simple text edit no longer works for links now....
    Apple, please fix this!
    Thanks again.

  • Hyperlink in mail

Hi. I am trying to put a hyperlink in one image inside an email. I can see the image, I can use the hyperlink command in edit but nothing happen. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    jro

sorry, I don't know why this doesn't work for you. you seem to be doing it correctly so it should just work.
some things to try (none might help).
    1. try this from a different user account.
    2. reinstall Mail from optional installs on the leopard DVD.
    3. reinstall Safari update.
after doing 2 or 3 you'll have to reinstall 10.5.3 combo update too to bring your system up to date.

  • TONS of broken software after downgrade from Lion...

Ihave a 13" MBP with the 2.3GZz Intel COre i5 processor.  Itcame with Snow Leopard and in a moment of foolishness (Mac Newbie) Ispent the $29 and updated to Lion as soon as it came out.  Needlessto say, I was very unimpressed as I lost Front Page, Expose, andSpaces.  After a few days of hair pulling and research, I goteverything back to normal on Snow Leopard, so I thought.  Acouple programs were broken, some completely missing.
Igot it all working again though, so I thought.  Now months laterI just discovered that I didn't.  And I am stuck without abackup, due to the amount of time passed, that can get this sortedout.  After discovering one of my broken programs, I wentthrough and checked everything and discovered a slew of broken items. Everything on this list, I am pretty sure got updated on Lion, and was working fine before the change to Lion, then fine onceupdated on Lion.  Apparently I did not check well after goingback to Snow Leopard...
Thereare a few random items, and then a bunch doing almost the same thing. I think some sort of library got damaged.  I would havethought restoring to the backup would have fixed this.  Themethod I used was to wipe the HDD with the Install DVD, thenreinstalled on a blank machine, and restored via the install discs. Here is hopefully a full list of the broken items.
    1) Desktop and Screen Saver via Preferences or the pop up ChangeDesktop Background.  However I access this it will bring uppreferences and then quit as it tries to access the second part. Oddly I found that going through every screen in preferencesand changing a few items back and forth, temporarily fixes this.  Butafter correctly accessing the desktop background 1 or 2 times, itlocks up again.  I can change the background by selecting theoption in Safari though...
    2) Final Cut Pro takes FOREVER to stop bouncing in the dock(1-2minutes+ before it "loads" and stops bouncing) and goesinto the "restoring window layout" screen.  Eventuallyyou can access menus above and it appears to be working even thoughthe startup box is still there.  But if you try to select aproject, you get back the whole "restoring windows layout"and nothing ever actually happens.
Therest of the problems are all with the iWorks software suite.  Noneof it works.  iTunes was also broken, but it was the first thingI fixed via a simple reinstall.
    3) iWeb is basically all grayed out.  It loads up quickly, but no projects open.  And in the taskbar I can't open a newproject.  I did have a website I had been building (no big dealif lost).
    4) iDvd seems to be okay at first.  Opens and the new projectselection comes up.  Select one and it opens.  But thepinwheel keeps spinning and after 5-10 seconds it shuts down withnothing happening.
    5) iMovie opens in dock, but never actually allows access.  Mostof the menu items remain grayed out.
    6) iPhoto never even opens.  It claims to be damaged orincomplete and crashes.  I had never noticed as I use Aperturemost of the time.  Speaking of that though, I have some sort ofbroken libraries issue.  Browsing in Aperture I can seeeverything.  But I have seen an odd "libraries missing"when trying to add pictures from outside of Aperture.  I can'tremember where I was doing that, most likely Mail.  In fact inthe Applications folder it is crossed out like you see sometimesafter an update before a reboot.
Mailamazingly is working fine with the bounce option back.  I dohave issues with it sending emails from the wrong gmail account attimes (I have three setup in it), but I think that is just me... Garage Band also seems to be working fine.
Ithink that covers it all.  It seems like some sort of library orapplication support database got damaged?  I have triedrepairing them from the Software reinstall DVD (I have both OE discsstill).

    James Somners wrote:
iPhoto now opens and claims my library was edited with a newer version.  "Do you want to make a new library or quit?"  I do not remember upgrading iPhoto, I only used it for the first week or so,
Did you ever open the iPhoto library with iPhoto on Lion?  That's what it sounds like.
    iWeb is 3.0.4 (601)
That's the most up-to-date version, and runs on either Lion (with a few quirks), or Snow Leopard.
iDvd won't stay open long enough to check.
Select and right-click it and choose Get Info.
I don't use it anymore, but 7.1.2 opens on Lion and Snow Leopard for me.
iMovie is 9.0.4 (1634)  and says "iMovie '11"
I never upgraded from 8.0.6, and don't use it anyway, but that should work.
GarageBand is 6.0.4 (427.84) and also says "GarageBand '11"
Also never updated from 5.1, but that should work.
And sure enough in the themes folder for iDvd, I see one for iDvd6, and one for iDvd7.  Sooo um what is the best course to fix this?  Reinstall iLife '11?  Or reinstall the older stuff via my disc again?
I'm not sure that's a problem.  It may be so you can use the old themes with the new version.  You might want to check that in the iDVD forum at https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/idvd
I do find both of those in my /Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes folder (and a Tutorial folder).
In my ~/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes folder, is only iDVD 6
I suspect that's correct, the difference being the names Themes vs. Installed Themes.
It doesn't sound like preference file problems, but have you deleted the appropriate ones (without the app being open)?
What messages do you get in your system.log when you try to open these apps?
Otherwise, I'm about out of ideas here.  I can't imagine what's going on -- it sure looks like you have the right versions of these, at least.

  • After Mail crash, Sent folder not syncing with Exchange

I was able to successfully configure Mail on SN to work with Exchange 2007. After about two days of trouble free operation, my Mail client crashed. After that it has stopped syncing the Sent folder with Exchange. I have tried reboot of my MacBook Pro and restarts on the Exchange server but with no success. Mail that is sent from SN as well as from other clients (such as Outlook or Outlook Web Access) appears in the Sent folder on Exchange but none of these emails are now appearing in the Sent Mailbox in Mail on SN. However, the messages that were sent before the crash are synced and available in the Mail on SN. Appreciate any suggestions or help.

I'm frankly always shocked at the lack of quality. I somehow insist on believing in Apple, which consistently doesn't appear to deserve it. Been using MobileMe to sync my dock between 3 Macs. An iMac at home, one at the office, and a MacBook Pro on the go.
Now, my notepad refuses to stay in the dock, despite me following all the advice I could find on this specific issue from Apple and forums. MobileMe Sync items are also high up my list of items I very much like to have, but of course, they don't work well. I thought Snow Leopard was to be an extremely high quality release. That was the whole point of this release. Nothing but fixing all the broken things that exist.
So much for quality. They had a whole 18 months not to add features, but just to fix all that is broken. And this is the result. Things that are highlighted as awesome features that fall short of functioning properly. Who tests this stuff, two guys in a basement?

  • Hyperlink in mail message gets changed

I'm having trouble mailing webpage addresses. If I copy and paste an address into an email the entire thing does not get underlined so when recipients click on it they don't get the entire address. If I use mail/edit/add hyperlink and paste the address into the hyperlink address box, it gets changed; after the % extra characters are getting pasted in.
anyone else having this problem or know what to do about it?
    thanks!

They get added because when replying, or forwarding
an e-mail you get quotes added as well as spaces.
And e-mail programs don't deal with long strings of
    text very well.
thanks for the help! I'm a regular subscriber to tinyurl now! My next problem is figuring out how to get my movies viewed by folks.

  • Adding hyperlinks to mail messages

I want to send a text trigger hyperlink message in mail to advertise my .Mac podcast. Manytimes the link that I send will not go to the proper address, AKA the .Mac can't find the page screen. The address is:
    http://web.mac.com/robcork/iWeb/Rob%20Cork%27s%20Music/Podcast/Podcast.html
This is a paste directly from Safari. I would like to use a trigger word like, Rob's podcast that will open the users browser and take them to the page. All attempts using the obvious "add hyperlink" have as of yet failed. Advice?

Well I don't want to send in plain text - and it seems like it should be configurable somewhere. Undocumented plist tweak?
I am using Mail Attachment Iconizer, and MailTags - but neither of these plugins have any influence on this behaviour.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say you don't see this behaviour. If you just type in a full URL, then start a new line, then after a few seconds mail will automatically build a link into the URL text.
