Broken internal antenna!

Hi all! First time I post here :P
It's like this. I broke my internal antenna on my PowerBook G4 12" when I was going to check which airport card I had. I'm kind of.. violence of myself but anyway. I was going to check which card I had and the antenna.. Popped of the card. Or atleast I think it is the antenna.
Well, it broke and now I CAN still found the card, but no connections (:P). Am I able to reconnect the cable in some way? Because there is some metallic thing sticking out from the card and the cable is.. Loose, and it's now harder to shut that little door to the card. Well.. I think that's all I can say for now.
Here's two pic's of the thing ^_^ (Photo's taken with my mobile)
Thanks for now! I hope you are able to help me!
I can take pic's with my real digital camera if anyone wants better quality.
PowerBook G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Welcome to the discussions
You have one of 2 choices you can either take it to an Apple store or contact Applecare, if you have it.
Or if you want to attempt it, look at the link and you will see you can unplug the connecter to the card and twist the cable and insert it and either crimp it or solder it and then re attach it.

  • An AP500 with internal antennas?

Is there any chance that an AP500 might be developed with internal antennas?
I have at least one deployment where the AP541N might have been seriously considered, except for its external antennas, which for that site are too vulnerable... of being moved, tampered, etc.
So in that case the AP1142 with its internal antennas and smaller footprint, is a better fit.  But the 1142 is a lot more expensive, doesn't do clustering, etc.
If a new model of AP500 were developed to fit into the casing of an AP1140 that would be, for some customers, quite an enticing product!
But I'm not holding my breath... it seems Cisco made a decision to use only external antennas with these.

    Rich,
Thank you for your feedback, its great to hear from end-users about how we can make our product lines fit your needs better. These boards are HIGHLY visible to Cisco. Therefore, I'm sure your concerns will be heard and addressed accordingly.

  • 1300 Series w/ Internal Antenna

We have installed several external antenna 1300's but this is the first with an internal antenna. Which direction is the wireless radiating? The mount that we have places the front (grey side) against a wall with the rear facing outward. Thanks.

    Hi Michael,
You probably want to reverse this mounting, the radiation patterns for the 1300 are shown (at the very end of this doc)
    From this Antenna reference guide;

  • Best direction for internal antenna on 1602i

Can anyone suggest best direction for internal antenna on 1602i when placed on a wall, as i am aware that best location for these AP's is to be placed on ceilings with antenna direction at 90 for best results.
I have done this with the majority of AP's but some need to be mounted on walls, so looking for some info on antenna direction for best results in coverage.
    Thanks

    Hello, tavery.
Check table 5, 6, and 7 on this link for several antenna options for a 1600 AP. Will you be needing an Omnidirectional antenna for your application?

Let me know if you have additional concerns as well. Kind regards.

  • EIRP for Internal Antenna APs

    Hello everyone
I understand EIRP for external Antenna APs  but does the transmit power of internal APs will be considered as EIRP or we will add antenna gain to get it? For Example 1131 and 1142 have different antenna gais so keeping tranmit power same 25mw will have same EIRP ro diffe

It's exactly the same with internal antenna.
The difference of antennas is not big enough to actually matter on EIRP here.
    Let me explain.
The AP will adapt the transmit power by steps of 3db of gain of the antenna.
Example : the AP transmits at 17dbm and you have a 3dbi gain antenna, the EIRP is 20.
If you increase the antenna gain to 4, nothing will change. Only when arrived at 6dbi, the AP will lower the transmit power to 14dbm to stay at EIRP 20.
So it's not granular enough to matter if the 1130 has a 3dbi antenna and the 1140 a 4dbi :-)

  • 8600 luna internal antenna strength

I have the above phone on the orange metwork and find it very difficult to get a signal downstairs in my house even though Orange network says i am in a good coverage area.
I do not have lead lined rooms or a big house and signal strength outside of the house is good, a friend has an old sony phone which has a good signal is ther a Nokia make that has a good internal antenna . i like the 6500 Classic :-)

I always found my Luna to give good signal !
My 8800 arte hangs onto signal in the most fringe areas.

Thank you thank you!!! =D  I went to Custom and change the contacts into "do nothing."  When I  synchronze my treo it finished in less than a min or two.  You were right ... something is messed up in my treo.  Maybe because I'm so clumsy ... I always drop my phone.  I'll diffently try the DbFixIt.

  • Broken airport antenna

The internal antenna on my airport extreme card broke. would an apple store be able to fix it?

An Apple service center could fix it - and that could be arranged via your local Apple Store.

  • How do I turn off/on the internal antenna in order to connect an external antenna

How do I turn off/on the internal antenna in order to connectand use an external antenna.  Second question, I mistakenly installed the wrong driver for the external antenna, How do I uninstall it?

Log onto icloud.com on a computer and see if you can turn it off on there.

  • AP mounting options versus internal antennas

    Hi All,
I have previously used the 1232s and 1242s with external antennas so I could wall mount them (ceiling mounted hardware is not always an option) and have the antennas oriented correctly. I'm now looking at the newer APs with 802.11n some of which have internal antennas and are more cost effective, e.g. the 1040. The 1040 has internal antennas but it is apparently wall mountable - from http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/1260/quick/guide/ap1260getstart.html#wp42683
"Cisco Aironet 3500, 1260, 1140, 1130, and 1040 series access points can be mounted in several configurations, including on a suspended ceiling, on a hard ceiling or wall, on an elecrtical or network box, and above a suspended ceiling. Click this URL to browse to complete access point mounting instructions: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/mounting/guide/apmount.html "
How does wall mounting an AP with internal antennas affect the coverage? Surely the antennas will be oriented the wrong way to provide the correct coverage pattern. Or are the antennas able to provide the same coverage no matter what way up they are?
    Many Thanks,
    Scott

    Hey Scott,
The 1040, like the 1140 can be mounted on the wall.  The horizontal and vertical footprint is almost similar.  Like a ball.  So it won't make any severe difference at all.

  • How do I fix broken airport antenna?

I have an older G5 tower, 1.8GHZ, and the airport is not working. External antenna is broken. Does anyone know how to remove the broken antenna?
    < Edited by Host >

If there is any portion of the antenna body protruding out of the connector, you should be able to just pull it out.  You may need to use a pair of pliers, but it should come out.  If you have completely broken off the antenna and only have the connector remaining, then you might be able to pull the shell out with very small needlenose pliers, though the center conductor might be a bit of a problem.

  • Reinstall (broken internal dvdrom, using firewire dvdrom) problem

    Hi
I'm trying to reinstall Tiger on my iBook G4 using an external (fw) dvdrom, the dvdrom is recognized in OSX. The internal dvdrom is broken (has a disc that won't come out).
When I try to boot the iBook G4 from the mac os x disk in the external dvdrom, nothing seems to happen, the Apple remains on the screen and the process indicator keeps spinning..
I tried holding c; pressing option, command, shift, delete and holding option to select the Mac OS X install disk, each method gives me the same result :s.

It's the Tiger Install Disk, I think it's an universal disk, it didn't come with my iBook...
Most iBooks require a special version of Mac OS X. This could explain why you can't startup from that disk. Exactly which model iBook do you have? (Is it 12" or 14" and what's the processor speed?) Which version of Mac OS X is included on the Tiger install disk? (It should be printed on the disk.) Here's a list of which version of Mac OS X is required by different models of iBooks:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
You may need to call Apple and get the right set of install disks.
