Broken K7T266-Ver1????

Hi all,
I have updated the BIOS using the Live update application, and that seemed to be OK, the system booted up afterwards and I changed the time and date and some other settings and it continued to boot up a couple more times, but after 2 or 3 more boot-ups it would freeze whilst loading windows 2000 into full mode.
This freeze first happened after installing service pack 4 for windows 2000.
I then rebooted for about the 3rd or forth time after the BIOS flash, and after doing stuff with modem drivers, and the boot diagnostice frooze after veryfying NVRAM.
Now it doesn't boot at all. The motherboard was working, but now it will not boot, I get groups of 8 rapid beeps.  I haven't got anything else plugged into the motherboard apart from the memory chips.  Incidentally when I unplug the memory chips I get 3 beeps.
I have also tried two PCI video cards, and one other AGP card with no joy.
What else can I try to get this board working again, or is it in fact dead.
Thanks in advance
Gareth Naples

Thanks for all the responses,
Here is a considered posting to clear up any questions poeple have.
System spec.
Everything is now unplugged from the board except:
The PSU, but I have changed the original one for another one-No Fix
The Video card-Originally a Matrox G400 Dual Head-But this has been changed for a 3Dfx voodoo AGP card, and two diffrent Matrox Millenium PCI cards-no fix
Memory chip:
Sansung 256MB DDR  Serial M368L3313DTL-CB   I only mentioned the 3 beep error code when I removed the the RAM to demonstrate that the MOBO does actually notice that it has no memory and does produce the right beep code.
The system was producing a load of beeps the night before the BIOS flash but still would boot up most of the time, after the BIOS flash it did boot up a few times, and like I say I did manage to get into the BIOS after the flash which I think went OK, the CMOS was reset, and I had to change some settings like time and date, the printer port type, auto detecting the drives, power botton is off not standby, and the stay off after system power failure.  I didn't adjust anything else.
The system failled to boot into windows once or twice with windows 2000 hanging during the loading screen, then the system booted but hung at veryfying NVRAM, on the next boot after that.........
Eight rapid beeps....pause......Eight rapid beeps......
Also at some stage before total failure, the system went into the odd cycle of booting, then re-booting, and never getting anywhere at all, not even displaying the video bios.
This failure seemed to be progressive if that sheds any light on anything....
The BIOS file used I think 6380v19.exe, which I think was found and installed by the Live BIOS update automatically.  I am 80% sure that was the file it used, that file is the one I found myself.  Perhaps I should have done the update manually????
One more thing, as the system did boot up after the BIOS flash but then "broke down" slowly, it suggests to me that the BIOS flash wasn't the problem.  Surely the MOBO would fail to re-boot after a bad flash immediately.....
I think this board is dead. Who agrees with me?
Is there anything else I can do to test it more?
I think this board has had a mechanical/electrical fault that has been made worse by me removing and replacing cards for cleaning ( a light brushing with a natural bristle brush) and that these new mechanical loads on the circuitry has pushed the fault to failure.  anybody got any other theories as to what might have happened?
Anymore more comments would be welcome.

  • K7T266 Pro ver1 AC97 SOUND.

     Question;
     I have the MSI K7T 266 Pro, (MS 6380) version 1, Bios 1.9, 1.4 Athlon CPU,ATI Radeon 7500 agp card, 19Gig WD hard drive,WinXP Home.
When I enable the AC97 Sound in Bios, and install drivers for it, I get a shutdown and restart like a short or something.
The case I have doesnt allow for the plastic standoffs, mainboard almost has to be mounted directly to the chassis. Any info on that??
I put in Creative pci512 sound card and that works fine, and can enable AC97 sound but as soon as I install drivers for that I get the shutdown.
At first I couldnt get AC97 sound to work at all so after that installed the PCI card. (No jumper for AC97 as the book says)

I have the same board. I get only left channel sound.  I asked on this board several times, but I get no answer.
First I thought it may be thacable from the cd player, but Any audio coming in is the same. I tried to uninstall the audio in the Device Manager , reboot, reinstall, but it is the same.  Maybe these boards really have some design problems with the audio.

  • K7T266 PRO2 (MS6380 Ver 3.0) FDD Controler Problems

I just purchased a new boxed OEM MSI K7T266 PRO2 (MS6380 - Ver 3.0) motherboard from JUST DEALS on E-bay which seems to have very sparce (or none) documentation for download on this site.  This is a non-raid board which has the AGP Pro video card socket (with the white lock and release lever at the end of the AGP female connector).  The board can also be identified with the following rather unique component/connector layout at the bottom end of the board:
    1.  In place of where RAID connectors attach to most of these model boards, this board has three aux USB connectors above the connector where the case front panel connectors usually plug in.
    2.  There are 3 CDROM audio connectors at the lower left below the last PCI slot.
    3.  To the left of the case front panel connector, there are two rows of connectors and jumpers which appear to be for  use with a case which has front panel audio connectors.  I believe the jumpers are for the purpose of selecting which audio output to use  (front or the standard rear sound output jacks.
    4.  The area between the last PCI slot and the USB and front panel audio connectors described above, the motherboard is rather blank with no components or even places where optional components have not been installed.
    5.  This motherboard has a Phoenix bios whereas most other K7T motherboards made by MSI seem to be AMI bios.
    6.  Finally, when doing a search for MS6380 Ver3.0 on Google, all the hits seem to be in Russian, German or French.   I suspect that this MB may have been manufactured for the European market.   BIOS display is in English, however.
    PROBLEM
I have installed an AMD Athlon TBird 1.2 ghz cpu with 40mb WD hard drive which already had Windows Me and lots of other SW installed.  The system boots just fine from the hard drive and all works well except for the Floppy drive.   When I try to access the FDD with a know good disk installed with valid data, it comes on and spins up, the front light blinks and after about 30 seconds of continuous running, a message comes up "floppy disk not formated, format now: (Y/N)"  If I try to format the disk, it will not format and the system will ask to check to see if a disk is installed.   Changing floppy disks does not help, whether this is a disk which has verified data installed or just a formated blank disk.  I have tried two different FDD cables and 3 different Floppy drives and always get the same result.   I have checked for bent or broken pins in the connectors and found they are all good.  The FDD is a 1.44 MB and is connected to the end of the two-drive cable.  No other FDD is installed.  When I go into the BIOS setup, I verify that Drive A is installed as a 1.44BM 3.5" Floppy and None is selected for Drive B.
I am currently at a loss to know how to proceed here.  I am wondering if this could be a BIOS problem but I am not sure if I can find BIOS update on the MSI Web site when they do not even list a MS6380 Ver 3.0 motherboard at all.
I am considering installing a PCI FDD controller card but not sure that these are even manufactured.
    Please help.

    To Toenne:
Thanks for the reply.  This has to be a BIOS problem since the FDD has to be accessed by the BIOS before any software or installed chipset drivers on the HD are ever used.  With my problem, I cannot even boot the system from the FDD.
I tried resetting CMOS and that did not help.  I wonder if there is some kind of multi-mode floppy disk drive which this BIOS expects to see other that you standard old fashion IBM 3.5" 1.44gb drive.  The solution is likely to reflash the BIOS except with this odd MB serial number, I am not sure if I can find the latest BIOS software for this Phoenix chip.
Does anyone know if there are any PCI FDD controller cards on the market where I could disable the on-board controller and use a plug-in card?
    Thanks

  • K7t266 Pro2 And Pc2700 Ddr Ram?

Does anybody here know if a k7t266 pro2 mobo will support pc2700 ddr ram?  COMPUSA Has a great deal on PNY right now--512mb pc2700 ddr for 50 bucks after rebates....As far as I have read, the documentation says pc1600 or pc2100.  But we all know that rules are meant to be broken.......
Thanks for any help I receive!!!
My specs are in my signature!

You can use pc2700 ram but without any benefit against pc2100, speed will be the same.
Be aware that it's normally no good idea to mix different ram type, this can cause trouble.

  • Broken Links / Drivers / Downloads

    Dear Friends, a few queries
    1) For my MSI K8T Neo MS-6702 VER1.0 Motherboard this MSI site http://msicomputer.co.uk/Products.aspx?product_id=703428&cat_id=77 has none of its links for drivers etc working. Where can i get the downloads?
I tried via MSI LIVEUPDATE and :
     2) It doesnt have drivers for the onboard Audio
     3) AMD CPU and AMD AWAY Driver - do i need these?
     4) Should i install the MSI Realtek driver or stick with the windows SP2 one that it installed?
     5) What about VIA CHIPSET drivers, do i need them?
     6) VIA SATA/IDE Drivers ... is their anyway i can download these spearetly and place onto floppy so that i may use it with my new windows installation?
I was also reading through the stickies esp by tiresmoke and a lot of the links seem to be broken for dowloads, drivers etc.  Is there anyway around this?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi!
Just to answer the other questions:
    - You need chipset drivers, absolutely, and you should install those first (after installing Windows).
    - You don't need the Away driver. You do need an AMD cpu-driver to enable cool & quiet
    - You don't need any usb drivers, they're native to XP-SP2
    - You need audio drivers, ethernet drivers, video drivers. You can install these after installing chipset drivers.
    Hi, regarding the above
-i assume you mean the latest video drivers from ATI yes?
-what about the AMD CPU Driver? No i take it?
-and about my question 6, can i download the "VIA VT8237(R) SATA RAID Driver (For floppy  driver) "drivers and stick them on a Floppy to work with my windows installation?

I have a MSI K7T266 PRO V1.0 motherboard with the 1.9 BIOS version.
I wanna buy an Western Digital 160 GB hard drive. Did anyone know if the motherboard can detect it succesfully (because of the 137 GB barrier).
Has anyone been successful in this operation? ... The BIOS version said the 137 GB barrier is broken.
BUT ... I REELY, REELY, REELY NEED TO KNOW IF IT'S TRUE AND IT'S ACTUALLY WORKS FINE....
    Thanks to everyone.

  • K7T266 Pro2 RU repaired but...

    Hello.
Long time no see, I'm back now ^^
Since the glorious times of my first Socket A system, much water have flowed on rivers so to say that many things happened, to me and in the world.
Well, ok, to make long story short here's the thing.
Some time ago (iirc some years) I were trying some spare hardware I have and when I was trying my old K7T266 Pro2 RU motherboard, after some tests, I did a mistake: I didn't installed properly a stick of ram, being partially inserted on one side and not fixed properly in its slot, so, forgetting and/or not noticing it, I switched on the motherboard and the poor board "poofed" out dead. The component that burned was nearby the ram slots, named D7 on the board and it was an SS12, a schottky diode: I thought so that replacing it would have sufficed to bring the board back to life, so I went to a tech assistance shop and they gave me an SS14 diode, claiming that it have the same characteristics of the SS12 being it just stronger than the earlier and that it can stand some more voltage, so I bought it for a few euro.
After that I left all the mess apart since I lost interest to it, until now that I decided to try to fix the motherboard with the new component and see it I were right about it, but here came the first problem: when I were trying to unsolder the old burnt diode, it was really difficult, first off because it was too near the ram slots (so I were fearing to melt the plastics of the retention system), second off because the pin on the opposite side of the ram slots wasn't wanting to let go the track it was soldered! I struggled much to make it let go and after I succeeded, luckily, the track under was lifted from the board and I found it even cut!
After swearing all of my calendar (don't mind about this, it's something we do much in italy, not always tho :P), I then tried to solder the new diode: it wasn't so difficult, and luckily i managed to sold back the cut track rejoining it and, because the whole thing wasn't so fix, I put even a drop of Superattak glue (cyanoacrylate): the result was very good, even tho couldn't be as if it nothing happened, but acceptable in general.
I tried then to reinstall it on one of my old case desktop ATX lying around, throwed my old Athlon XP 1800+ Palomino and a stick of 256 MB DDR266 from an old Intel celeron 1.7GHz Willamette rig I got recently, and powered it up again: first attempt didn't do anything, after some cable checking (I don't remember now but maybe I reversed the reset and power on switches plugs ^^) it finally run... and *drum roll* it even did the POST! I was happy, then, and was thinking that everything were going the good way. But Murphy is always hiding somewhere, so my happiness wasn't lasting long.
Ok, then, I decided to try to test it again to see if the hardware is still going, so I tried to install windows XP on a spare maxtor 80gib I had lying around, but with no much luck: firsts attempts hanged many times always on the same step (still on the early blue text-only screens), so I decided to try to run a memtest first, to check it before everything, and here comes the new main issue.
I've installed memtest86+ v4.20 on an old 256 mb usb pendrive, successfully, because I needed to test the ram on some other computers, so I had the thing already ready for the task: I inserted it on one of the onboard usb plug (the v1.1 ones: naturally on the usb 2.0 it's not even detected) and tried to boot the board from it. Failing.
I then tried it again on other computers: first my notebook, then some other rigs and all of them run the test correctly. To be sure I reinstalled the memtest on the pendrive, to no avail.
I've tried to change the ram stick, I've plugged a 512 MB DDR400 one (not the one of the incident, but surely a working one, since I tried it successfully on other rigs), and change the slot too, still to no avail.
The pendrive "boots", but it hangs prompting me:

    What should I do?
Is it because of the USB 1.1?
    Or maybe a BIOS issue?
Or is it really my motherboard that's still TFU? I really hope not, I want to make it work again :(
Anyway, of anybody of you that still have this glorious motherboard, can you please tell me if you can run memtest86+ from one of the ONBOARD USB (1.1) plugs?
I take it from here, btw: http://www.memtest.org/ (http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20/memtest86+-4.20.usb.installer.zip to be correct).
Please answer me, thank you in advance!!
Edit: I forgot to say that I did the c37 removal mod for making the board compatible with 0.13 µ cpus, successfully, natuarlly :P

Looks like the harddisk is broken.
As it complains about the partitions just like XP does.
No, I tried to boot the memtest from usb disconnecting everything else, so no hdd and no cd/dvd. I also tried to disable every integrated periferal and device: fdc, serials and parallel, midi, game, ide, raid, audio, modem and usb (1.1 naturally).
Btw when I said that it complains about the partitions? :o

Try memtest on a cd and boot from that; or use a linux live cd. Or the marvellous Ultimate Boot cd. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Also that board was built around the time of the bad cap debacle..
I think I would have binned it..
I followed your suggestion (but I thought it by myself too) and tried with the cd version of memtest86+, burning the iso onto a brand new cd (sigh, so much space wasted :p), and tried it: it finally worked, and I found that the 256 Mib ddr266 stick isn't compatible with the board, since the test didn't even started, another stick of 512 Mib ddr333 got errors (even 1 is too much to me, but it didn't have only 1 error), and finally the 512 Mib ddr400 tested fine for about 2 hours! That's a relieve ^^
Unluckily even using the good working ram, it still don't want to boot memtest86+ from the usb pendrive.
I still ask to anyone with my same board if they can do the same test, just to be sure that's just the board that can't boot properly from usb, or maybe a little incompatibility with my old pendrive.
    Thanks for now.

  • K7T266 Pro2-RU hard drive size..

    Hi !
I tried to find a solution by searching the forums but this exact question
    nodoby asked.
    I bought new HDD (Seagate ST3160023A) 160 G / ultra ATA and
    i cant get it working.
Board is K7T266 Pro2-RU and it seems that BIOS is recognise new
HDD but i cant made any partitions and/or format it.
I tried it many different ways, with other HDD:s
    Master, Slave, Cable Select.
Seagate's own disk utility hangs, Windows xp (SP1) Disk management hangs and so on.
Is this some known issue or is it so that the HDD is broken ? if
i understood correctly, mainboard should support HDD:s up to 160Gb ?
    Thank you !

    Quote
i understood correctly, mainboard should support HDD:s up to 160Gb ?
Correct for the onboard raid controller, but the ide controller can only manage drives up to 137GB as far as I remember.
Btw: Moved this thread to the via section, maybe anyone there else has some idea.

  • K7T266 PRO2-RU and Problem with a FEW DISPLAY ADAPTERS ...

    Hello ,
I was using my mainboard with 32 MB Creative Riva TNT2 Ultra until creative's fan was damaged . I tried 16 Creative TNT2 m64 display adapter of a friend of me , but it didn't work with K7T266 PRO2-RU. Many sounds are coming from mainboard while D-LED shows Testing RTC (or boot attemp, I'm not sure about that) (Same symptoms with "no graphic adapter" - I tried again after unplugged the display adapter - )
At the beginning I was thinking that the 16 MB creative graph adap. was broken . So , today I bought a new graphic adapter 128 MB of Creative 3d Blaster5 Radeon 9200SE . When I plugged it into mainboard , I saw the same problems with 16 MB Creative TNT2 m64 . After that , I found another 32 MB Creative TNT2 Ultra from my friend and it worked with my mainboard FINE .
    - I tried all of the old bioses of MSI K7T266 PRO2-RU
    - I tried to start the computer with no any other devices (such as HDD , sound card , tv card etc. ) . Only display adapter was plugged in the mainboard , but it didn't work . System hanged up everytime I tried .
    - I made some bios adjustments which are suggested at this forum ....
But none of these worked ....  ?(
What is the problem ? Why only 32 MB creative TNT2 Ultra is working with my mainboard , but 16 MB Creative TNT2 M64 and 128 MB Creative 3DBlaster5 Radeon 9200SE are not  while all of them are working FINE with an old PII mainboard . (tvout+DVI)  I'm looking forward to hear from you . , Help me please .
Ps : Can new beta bios solve that problem ?
    XP pro
    2100+ 0.18m XP CPU with coolermaster CP5
    40 GB Seagate Barracuda IV
    300 watt Codegen Power Supply
2*256 MB Kingston DDR 2100 Memory
( No floppy , no souncard , no tv card etc , no any other devices like cdrom , dvdrom , cdrw etc.)

    That's it!
I provided a few PSU's from my friends and tried 420 watt thermaltake and 520 watt VANTEC Stealth 520A PSU  ...
Same situation happened and 128 MB Creative ATI Radeon video card didn't work   ...
The problem can not be about PSU ...
I tried two different brand of fx 5200  (128 MB ) video card on my system (with 300 watt codegen PSU) . Everything is ok  .
And I also tried the RADEON card on my friend's computer which is running with 230 watt Elan Vital PSU . It worked perfectly ...
So what can I think about that situation?
The Answer is : There is something about MSI mainboard ... When I wanted to contact with support center via e-mail , I got an automated e-mail answer which is not completely able to solve any of my problems.
Besides , I saw the problems between brand new Nforce mainboard of MSI and ATI video cards ...
SO , if we get all of these informations together , we can say "THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT MSI" ...
The solution is not buying expensive PSUs...
That's really bullshit , I can buy a brand new mainboard instead of an expensive PSU.
Finally , I bought an Asus mainboard , everthing is going ok now!
I'll not buy products of MSI anymore because they didn't do anything to solve my problem . Goodbye MSIIIIII ....................................... ........

     :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O  :O
Ok, I won this board from AMD a while back.  This board was a promo to show off their new Athlon XP cpu's.  I'm like, COOL. WRONG.  So far this board has FRIED 2 XP 1800+ cpu's. Currently the board is in the hands of the MSI RMA dept., who will take approx 7-10 business days to determine whether the capacitor that EXPLODED, can be considered a board defect. This makes RMA #3.  Now by a show of hands, who here thinks this model is defective???
Now MSI has great customer support, but, merely replacing broken products with the same model that is prone to the same problems, is not.  All I asked was for MSI to not ship me a replacement K7T266 Pro, and instead ship me a K7T266a Pro.  Not an unreasonable request being that both boards are pretty old.  But noooooo, MSI can't do that.  So far this FREE motherboard has cost me over $300 in CPU replacement costs.  And they cant send me a board that costs less than $100???!!! Yea, um, ok , thats the biggest load of crap I've ever come across.
I would love to hear your thoughts on my little perdicament.  Oh, and heres a pic of the latest boom:
    Blown Capacitor
    Electrolyte I'm guessing
And for you Forum admins, if you can do anything to help me out in this, I would really appreciate it.
A pissed off, most likely not gonna be a repeat customer no more,
    John Christakos

    Hi,
The CPU fan header dies when you put a High-speed-fan to it....
    Happens on many boards!
As for the Cap, I also never seen any explode like that....
Most of the time the entire cap goes in the air with only leaving 2 pins behind and somepaper rubbish....
    Very strange.....

  • K7T266 Pro 2 Ver 2.0 - Possible flash gone wrong

    I have a K7T266 Pro2 Ver 2.0 (as written on the board)
and I recently flashed it with a6593vms.150.  Now the computer won't boot.
I've tried clearing the BIOS, no avail.
I've removed the RAM, got three long beeps.  Removed the video card, got three long beeps.  So it seems that the POST is still being run.  BUT, when the sys powers up the 1st D-LED turns green and then it turns Red like all the others.  Which seems to indicate a bad proc.  I've tested the proc, and it checks out fine.  Any other ideas?

Why would you flash BIOS in the first place if it's not broken? And worse you have most probably flashed a WRONG BIOS. This is where you should get your BIOS.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=28&NAME=MS-6380%20Ver2.0
You may need to use the BIOS recovery method to flash back to your old BIOS, hopefully you kept a backup for the old one. :P

  • HT1688 I have a damaged I-Phone and I need the contents of my calendar off of it. I did not have Mobile me at the time.  Can I swap out the sim card from the broken phone to a new phone and recover this calendar?

I have an older I-Phone (3G) that for some reason the body of the phone has split in two.  This phone was a business phone and it had a lot of important information on it. I have a second phone that is also a 3G.  On the broken phone there is a lot of important information that I need in my calendar. Im not worried about anything else but the calendar.  I didn't have the Mobile Me account at that time or I would be having this problem. Does anybody know if I can ust switch out the sim cards. I just need to recover the old calendar, so im hoping that the calendar will transfer when I switch the sim card into the good 3G. If that doesn't work does anybody know of anyway that I can retrieve this information off of this phone?

Nothing is stored on the sim card on an iPhone.  If you backed up to your computer the backup will contain your calendar events.  Otherwise, if your phone isn't functioning there is no way to back up or extract your calendar at this point.

  • HT1384 My lock screen/power button on my iPod Touch is broken, and I need some assistance.

As the title suggests, I can not use the lock screen/power button on my iPod Touch, it is broken. I can use Adaptive Touch to turn the screen on and off at will, and also turn my device off. But if I turn it off, I don't know how to get it to turn back on. Could I just plug it into a charger and turn it back on, or would I need to plug it into my computer? Please help, in a few days I won't have access to it for 9 weeks, I need immediate help.

If you power off the iPod, it will turn back on if you connect it to a charger like a wall charger or a computer. I just checked with a charging source to confirm. I knew it did it with a computer.

Download the update manually and install. Worked on my MBP15 retina.
