Broken keyboard on Satellite notebook

When I press the space bar a 4 will pop up.
It is incredibly annoying.
Is this a virus or a broken keyboard? If you can please tell me how to get this fixed.

One thing would be important: What Satellite notebook you have exactly?
At the moment its not easy to say what is causing this problem but you should connect an external keyboard. If this works properly, your internal keyboard is faulty. In this case you need a new one because there are no single keys to exchange it.
If you contact the authorized service provider, they can order a new keyboard for you. :)

Usually you should always contact the notebook technicians for such jobs. I mean there is a tiny risk that you could damage some other parts.
At the other hand if you have good notebook experience you could also replace such keyboard.
What you need is a compatible keyboard.
This could be ordered from the Toshiba ASP in your country.
The keyboard is secured with 4 screws which are hidden under the plastic cover.
Pull the right side on the strip cover and lift it up. But be careful due to the cable on the right side. Then release the cable gently from the connector on the strip cover assembly, then lift the strip cover out.
Remove four keyboard screws that secure the keyboard and then slide the keyboard backward until the keyboard cable is pulled out from under the logic upper.
Then disconnect the keyboard connector and the second connector from the VGA board and lift the keyboard up and out.
The procedure is not difficult for someone who has already disassembled a notebook. But again; if you dont have the needed experience then dont do it and ask an technician for the help.

Sure it's possible.
Go to System Preferences (under the Apple logo on the top left of the menu).
Choose "Display". There's a slider bar for the screen brightness. Adjust it and you're all set.

Some keys don't work as expected
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Speech.
Click the Text to Speech tab.
If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Click the Universal Access pane in System Preferences, click the Keyboard tab.
Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In the Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sureMouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, seeUnable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys.
If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If the keyboard is connected and detected by Mac OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.

Well, as far as I know you can find at the bottom of the unit the label with some informations about this unit.
You can also ask the service partner for detailed informtions about your unit model.
In the user manual you will find also the unit name.

When Windows 7 on Satellite notebooks?

Hello.
Windows 7 is supposed to launch on October 22. Does anybody know when Toshiba Satellites will be for sale with Windows 7 in Spain?
Any help on this issue would be much appreciated.

I think nobody at the moment can say when you can buy a Satellite notebook with Windows 7.
Windows 7 should be released on October 22nd but this is the statement from Microsoft and maybe they will postpone the date again ;)
Anyway, I think we must wait some months more. I doubt that its possible to buy a notebook with Windows 7 if its not released as yet.
On the Toshiba website you can check the specifications of every notebook and also the OS that is delivered with the notebook. So have a look on this from time to time.

Keyboard is not working correctly on my Satellite notebook

When I press some of the buttons on the keyboard, the button beside them is activated. eg I press the a button and it turns on the caps lock. This happens to other buttons as well.
What is causing this? How do I fix it?

I think its keyboard hardware malfunction
You can try to connect an external USB keyboard and could test the functionality.
If this issue would not appear using external USB keyboard, then this means that the controller on the motherboard is OK and the issue is your internal keyboard which would need to be replaced.

I dont know if the best offer for you means the cheapest offer for me the best offer isnt the cheapest one.

Then you will get some google hits providing the compatible part!

Need keyboard for Satellite 4080 XCDT

Hi,
on my Keyboard the left buttens (TAB, q,a,y,CAPS) are defect. But If I press "<shift>-a" a "L" appears on the screen, so I think the buttons are not broken, maybe a chip in the keyboard or notebook.
I want to buy a new keyboard, where can I get one cheap?
Which keyboards(from which Toshiba-modells) fit in my Notebook too? ( for ebay search ;-) )

Replacing keyboard on Satellite L350

A clumsy friend of mine spilt a glass of red wine over my L350 at the weekend which has resulted in my keyboard malfunctioning.
No problem, I thought, should be easy to get a replacement and fit it.
However, as I've taken the original keyboard from the laptop I'm worried that I've damaged the connection and that my replacement won't work when it arrives.
Basically, the black part of the connector has broken - does anyone know if this is considered part of the laptop or will come with a replacement keyboard?
Any idea where I can get a replacement for the black part if necessary.

You know, many people here are frustrated and angry when I write that such stuff should be done by authorized personal only and you are best evidence what can happen when people try to exchange hardware on its own.
What you can do is to contact nearest service and ask if they can help. Maybe they have some old broken notebook and can give you this small part. Second solution is to buy defective motherboard on eBay and use this part on your motherboard.
I dont know man, sometimes is everything so complicated but I hope you will find solution for this.

Backlight keyboard in Satellite S50-B15T

I have bought a new notebook Toshiba Satellite S50-B15T last week, and the shop installed me a backlit keyboard, because this model does not bring the backlit keyboard pre-installed. After the installation of the new keyboard, it Works fine, it bright when i press any key, and tirns off ir i do not touch any key in the next 15s, but i can not change this option. I mean, other notebooks have several options by pressing "Fn + Z" keys, but my laptop does not do anything. i can not turn the backlit always off or always on, and my question isoes anyone know how can i change this settings?? t

I do not know if i have any option in the Bios.
Today appeared a New option in Function Keys Utilities Aplication and i can change the backlit modes there!!

I mean if original keyboard is defective contact Toshiba service for replacement. If your notebook is registered and still with valid warranty it will be exchanged for free.

I turned off the laptop immediately and dried it out.
It is being left off until I have a reply.
note: I spilt the liquid just about 1/4 of the keyboard.

You should turn the unit upside down and should wait until the unit dried.
In best case the unit should power up properly but it could be possible that your motherboard or another part like RAM module or keyboard could be affected.
Something similar happened to my girlfriends notebook. In my case the RAM module was dead and notebook could not boot up I replaced the RAM and was happy to see the Toshiba splash screen
