Broken Laptop
The laptop does not turn on when I power it on! It sometimes does when I leave it alone. The hard drive and memory are fine. I believe the power management on the motherboard is fried. I was wondering what exchange options there are for selling it or exchanging it for a new one. I also wanted to know what type of hard drive enclosure I need to turn the hard drive into a external hard drive. I have a Compaq Presario F761US Notebook PC.

Old problem that has never been figured out: I had hundreds of songs on my old laptop before itunes, some of them downloads from years ago and some of them ripped from CDs. After getting an ipod touch a few years ago, I put all 900 and some of the old songs plus new ones purchased from itunes on the ipod and played them for a long time (year or 2 probably?). Now, all of the sudden the non-itunes songs are grey on my computer AND ipod, and I am not able to click on them or play them. Why is this?
New problem that I will be severely p1ssed off about if it can't be resolved: Previously mentioned laptop with all of the music on it stopped working, so I purchased a new laptop and now, the only songs that show up in my newly downloaded itunes are the purchased ones. No music from old downloads, no music from CD's, and no playlists created on my old computer. Only a list of the songs that I purchased directly from itunes. I no longer have all the CD's that funded my 950+ song collection and have no way of getting that music (or the downloaded music) back if I can't access the broken laptop. Bought A Broken Laptop, No help from support.
I bought a HP Pavillion x360. It worked fine, until 24 hours after I bought it and it crashed. All the given options to fix the problem failed and the situation got worse, now I recieve a black screen with Boot Device Not Found, Please install an operating system on your hard disk. When I filled out and submitted the Hp Contact Support three days ago, nothing happened. No response or anything. I can't find any number or any other way to contact Hp for help. I am left with my brand new broken laptop and I am really upset Hp isn't offering any type of help.
HI thank you for your response. I just ended up returning the laptop and exchanging it. Which I probably shouldn't have done. This has been an awful experience and I am really upset by it. After the first tech guy I spoke to told me that the problem was my fault and I would need to spend $500 to fix it I should have realized, it was in no way my fault I barely used the laptop before it broke. It was impossible to contact anyone and then I was dispatched to five different people before they finally put me with the right person. I bought the laptop on your Black Friday deal, and so they said I couldn't get any more from that. I spent the same amount I did after several failed phone calls and a lot of waiting. The last person I spoke to, his name was Alfredo, was extremely nice to me and was the only good thing about this experience. I was so excited for my laptop originally and now I'm not sure if this was all worth it. I don't think I'll be purchasing anything again from HP.

Exchange broken laptop to new one
Hi guys! I bought new toshiba laptop with standart limited one-year warranty on June, 4. Everything works fine till today. It just freezes and after restarting it says that HDD is not available and I should choose some other bootable device. I didn't drop it or spill on it something so I suppose this case should be covered with this warranty. As far as I understood from warranty it may take up to 30 calendar days to fix it. But I can't wait for 30 days. I need the laptop everyday for my work. So, the question is: can I bring the broken laptop to you, select another one and just pay additional money if needed?

Buying a new laptop should be exciting and fun, and not be fraught with complications ever, or at least especially not so short a time after purchase. I'm very disheartened that this has turned out to be the case for you and apologize for your having to cope with a repair situation so soon.
While Geek Squad is happy to work with you on arranging for warranty repairs on your Toshiba notebook, Best Buy cannot offer you a return or exchange after the expiry of our 15 day return period. I regret that I don't have better news on that front. hydrogenwv's suggestion to contact Toshiba directly for other options is also good advice.

So my old laptop broke and it had my old skype account and information on it.
But since I thought Skype would be account-based I didn't feel the need to save my skype files (main.db) but now that I found out about how Skype is Pc-based I can't recover my old files.
My old laptop can no longer start windows, but those files are my life to me and they're extremely important.
Please help.If you don't anymore have access to main.db file from the broken laptop, then your old chats are lost forever. Sorry.

Broken laptop input mouse & keyboard [xps15z] [post Syu]
Problems:
-laptop's (dell xps 15z) keyboard and mouse not working
-X broken
I am really stumped here and looking for any help / direction. I am running out of questions to ask, and would appreciate any feedback.
What I have tried:
-creating a new modprobe.conf,
-merging rc.conf.pacnew,
-downgrading to my previous udev, mkinitcpio, and module-init-tools, using the packages found in cache. remade init with
mkinitcpio -p linux
and keyboard and mouse still did not work
-merged locale.conf.pacnew
-merged pacman.conf.pacnew
-traversed almost all of the logs multiple times (have not found a silver bullet, but not positive on what Im looking for..)

I've not had the computer for long, however the core install boots and works fine, but after updating the keyboard and mouse become unresponsive, so unfortunately from my perspective, one of the updates in the past 4 or 5 months broke it! However, though I've not tried any combinations of boot parameters, the vast majority of live CDs won't even boot without acpi=off (or presumably, only acpi=noirq is actually needed, looking at your tests) so it doesn't look to be Arch specific.
For your X problems, are you using a DE or WM, and how are you logging in? If you can disable the login manager (if present) and start an X session with startx, with say only exec xterm in your ~/.xinitrc that might help pinpoint the issue. If that works, it will unlikely be an X issue, more one of your DE/WM. -
My old laptop appears to be a victim of Bit Rot according to an IT person who was here helping me. All of the support material I've seen so far related to moving bookmarks from one computer to another seem to assume that Firefox can be launched on the old computer (which can't be done in my case). I'd like to figure out how to use the files which may hold my extensive bookmark data while the old computer is still allowing me to access those files and save to a removable thumb drive.
Fortunately I seem to have found and still have access to the old Profile files you're mentioning but I don't know how to make use of them such that Firefox on my new computer can incorporate all the data they hold. Again, I'm not able to open Firefox on the old computer. Any ideas how to use these .sqlite files on the new computer to get myself operable how I had been w. Firefox on the old broken one?

ITunes original on broken laptop

I'm using an iPad 2 with the original details for an iTunes account however the original laptop that I set iTunes up on is broken and unfixable. I didn't set it up so it would share with other devices as I'm not an iPhone user therefore I cannot now sync my iTunes with my iPad and it's driving me mad! Can anyone help please as I'd like my music on here.

Equium A110-233 Broken laptop screen
Hi, I have an Equium A110-233, the screen is broken.
I have attached an external monitor and it displays when booting up until it gets to the Windows logon screen then it switches back to the laptop screen.
Is there any workaround known for this other than replacing the broken screen?Hi!
Replacing the interal screen is a little bit tricky because you have to disassemble a lot of. You must remove many parts and screws and for this you should have a little bit experience with it.
An ASP can help you to do this and they can order such part and exchange it or you have a look on ebay.
Normally you can switch between the monitors with FN+F5.

Factory reset on broken laptop issue
My laptop has a broken screen and it's impossible to see without an external monitor. So I had to reset my computer to factory settings and when the first time set up came on, I couldn't see the fields because of my monitor not turning on. I entered random stuff and pressed tab space a lot to get through it. Now it's asking me for a username and password to get in and i'm not sure what I entered. What can I do?

I have a G4 laptop. The Original screen is broken so I have an external LCD connected to it. I was in system preferences Messing around with the mirroring option. Didn't know what I was doing, and somehow changed the display so the menu bar is no longer visible. The computer turns on and boots up...(I have to boot up blind). My question is how do I fix this?
There may be a chance, however small, of some
reset on startup may help it see the attached
external display again; or it may not.
Magic things such as PRAM or NVRAM resets
may do something or another; but in an ailing
iBook with something(s) wrong with the video,
they may do nothing much to fix or change it.
Not sure if something along the lines of a PMU
reset (varies by model of iBook, in procedure)
could jar something to its senses inside there.
And could be something else has failed inside
the iBook; since it is very hard to tell if the
video graphics component has failed totally
without a display. In some cases, not having
a built-in display and not knowing how to
by-pass the failed internal one without doing
more hard to fragile circuits and wires nearby,
limits experimentation. Some owners of old
ones no longer under warranty, have taken
them apart and even put the iBook into a
new case, so it would act like a server or
mini-tower. In a new box, a few upgrades
are possible that won't fit inside the iBook.
I've done a little checking, and find issues
similar to those you are looking at here;
but few answers. If the components on the
logic board have finally failed, or are loose,
the external display may be another victim
And depending on the exact model of iBook
a few of them had some issues where an
area under the logicboard was shimmed
by the users, in order to fix a flexible part of
the logicboard where a circuit had partially
failed; in those computers, they had an
internal working display to tell what was up.
Could be you may be looking for a good
repaired iBook or maybe a PowerBook G4.
There are some in like new condition and
their owners have upgraded to a new 'Book.

umm as to it sorting itself out if the data isnt corrupted at all and you are using the same or newer ver. of itunes it should just put your library right back to the way it was on your other computer. if the itunes ver. is the same or newed than you will get a library error saying that the library was created by a newer ver. of itunes.
however if the data is corrupted ripping the music off from itune's media folder would be best. then just reload it. itune's media folder should be in the "my music" folder given you didn't change the name of the folder. if u still cannot find the files you are looking for. and u want to be safe then just type "iTunes Media" (no quotes) into your search bar when you have your old harddrive selected and it will auto find. though i hate doing it because windows search function works as fast as a legless horse...im very impatient and i can usually search through like every file in my computer before it finds anything even related to itunes lol.
umm yea should work lol.... mabey the clone just didn't copy that certain folder properly. after cloning i always reinstall all my more advanced programs. (not that itunes is advanced lolol)
so if you haven't gotten accostumed to your itunes library to much just replacing the folder with your old one could work (can always back up your old one so no harm in trying.) as long as u keep two of everything. than just screw around with it. you won't screw up any system files just by moving around libraries. might screw up your playlists but thats not that much of a loss unless you have like 100 gigs of music and each playlist sorts like different genres..(idk who would do this but eh someone mighta been bored enough at one point.) -
Creating a backup of functional drive removed from broken laptop
I have a new Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion that is damaged and won't turn on. I have the drive removed and can access it using a docking station attached to my iMac running 10.6.
What is the simplest way to backup the data from this drive so that after the laptop is repaired I can return my data to the Macbook Pro?Using Disk Utility to clone a drive will automatically erase the Destination drive if it isn't already erased. Be sure the backup utility is NOT configured to erase all files on the destination that are not on the source. If there are files identical to those already on the drive, then they will be overwritten. -
Broken laptop and Iphone..how to restore
So in a span of a couple days, my iphone 5 died and so did my laptop. I have a new phone and installed itunes on new laptop BUT I need to be able to access my old restore points from my old laptop. I was able to have the hard drive copied to an external so I still have my old itunes folder. Is there a way to restore my new phone from an old backup on a new laptop? When the old phone worked, I backed up everything to the old computer. Now neither are alive and I lost thousands of pics.
Device backups are stored at \Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup.
If you copy this folder from your recovered hard drive into your current profile then open iTunes then hopefully you should see the device backups listed under Edit > Preferences > Devices.
If they don't show automatically then I'm sure there is a way to coerce iTunes into recognizing them.
