Broken Link to iDVD Project File

I created an DVD from iMovie just fine.
However, when I try to use the iDVD Project file, it cannot find the shared file. This means I have to redo the iDVD opening screens whenever I make changes in iMovie, and want an updated DVD with the latest changes.
I have moved both the iMovie file & the iDVD Project File to my external firewire drive. Both open fine, but won't link.

Thanks, good advice. I'm up to date on OSX and iLife 05.
My iBook only has 40G free, so I'm creating & storing my imovies on the external HD. What if I create iDVD project from the external drive and leave it there? Will it link, or does it have to be on the startup (internal) HD?

What do I do to fix a "broken link" in iDVD?

I am having this problem, too, but only with movies made prior to 2012.  When I attempt to navigate to and select the audio and or the video file it gives me a path (users/myname/desktop/moviename.iMovieProject/Shared Movies/Video) find file takes me to my hard drive.  At that point, I go into Users, find thhouse with my name (the only user), go to desktop and cannot find moviename.iMovieProject.  If I just try to find the file by clicking find file it searches and the wheel never stops.
I know that iDVD is no longer supported, but I have a feeling that everything is still here, I just cannot locate the necessary parts....

  • Using iDVD project file after deleting original iMovieHD

I've been using iMovieHD and iDVD to convert my home movies from miniDV tapes to DVDs. I've been putting two one-hour tapes together into one iMovie and then creating an iDVD project with themes, chapters, etc.
Each two-hour iMovie file takes up >20 GB. Before I burned my DVD, the iDVD project file took up only a few MB. After I burned the DVD, the file size grew to >4 GB, so I figured (erroneously, it seems) that this new file package contained all of the information needed to keep burning DVDs. Threfore, I deleted the original massive iMovie file and kept only the iDVD project file.
Now every time I try to load the iDVD file, the program lists all the missing files and, other than my themes and chapter titles, there is nothing left of the original project.
Am I missing something here? What's taking up all that space (4 GB)? Am I completely screwed? Is the only way to make new copies of my project to copy the DVD that I made?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Jay,
As John has said, you should have created a Disc Image of your DVD project before deleting the iMovie file. When working in iMovie/iDVD you must not delete ANYTHING that is in the project, not even the iMovie trash can, which often mysteriously fills up with "stuff", until you are sure you are finished editing and then have saved a Disc Image to burn further DVD's from. The files you deleted from iMovie were the reference for the file you were using in iDVD. Without that iMovie file, your iDVD project will only show what was created there, like your theme page.
Sorry that's bad news. Your options now are re-create your iMovies from your tapes, OR, rip the DVD you have back to your Mac to burn more DVD's.

  • Burning iDVD project files

I'm trying to free up hard disk space by bruning iDVD project files (.dvdproj) to a DVD-R.
When I tried doing this the files would not open. There was an error message that said - not writable.
I tried to first archive the files as Archived.dvdproj and I checked read/write permissions, but I still get the same error message.
Is there a way to burn these files to DVD-R and have them available to open in the iDVD edit window the same as they were on my hard drive.
    Photoscene

I'll try to be more specific. This was an iPhoto slideshow that was exported to iDVD.
I was able to delete the 10 megapixel .jpeg files from the Finder, the images from iPhoto, the QuickTime file, the iDVD.img file, and the Audio.Sd2f file (Roxio).
The Roxio audio file was needed to combine three music tracks into one file so that iPhoto could export them to iDVD.
Deleting the project saved 3GB of hard disk space.
The only files left were the four .aiff files in iTunes.
After this the Archived.dvdpoj file still opened in the iDVD edit window and played all the way through. From there it was burned to a CD-R, saving 400 MB of space.
I double checked the CD-R by copying the Archived.dvdproj file on to the desktop a second time and it works as it should.

  • SharePoint 2010 document broken link due to unrecognized File protocol: ms-word

Please help point me in the right direction.  I checked the File association on Internet settings and document type docx is associated with Word, but it won't open.  What do I need to change?
I received the following information when I clicked on the troubleshoot link:
Windows has the following information about this Protocol. This page will help
you find software needed to open your file.
    Protocol Type: ms-word
    Description: UnKnown
Windows does not recognize this Protocol.

Title:  SharePoint 2010 document broken link due to unrecognized File protocol: ms-word
Please help point me in the right direction.  I checked the File association on Internet settings and document type docx is associated with Word, but it won't open.
Try refining this symptom description.  What exactly do you mean by "it won't open"?  Answering that might explain why you are posting this in an IE forum.  E.g. right-click, Copy Shortcut whatever it is that you are calling
a "broken link" and Paste it here.
Otherwise, try right-click, Save target as... to put the file into your Downloads (Ctrl-j) and then use right-click, Properties to find its
full path and name.  Note that that would be quite different from what the Copy Shortcut step would have shown.
Next I suspect that the Set Associations GUI tool may not be showing you the correct information.  FWIW it certainly doesn't show me the correct information in W8.1.  So, I would try checking if you have an explicit association and file type combination
by using the assoc and ftype commands in a cmd window.  In fact, instead of just showing the ftype for the current association I would use this:
        ftype  |  find  /i  "word"
Then you could take the most appropriate template (not necessarily the one pointed to by the assoc command) and fill it in on a Run... dialog (or a cmd window command line if you also went back to ensure that the implied program
would be found by your PathExt shell variable.)  Etc.
Doing that would make your symptom description independent of IE.  All it would have done for you is download the file.  If you couldn't open it then it would be because either the file was saved incorrectly (in which case you could rename it)
    or it was bad.

  • Workflow on long project - is it possible to link sequences across project files?

I'm starting a long form project.  Obviously, I'll need to break it down into sections.
I'm editing a documentary, and the bulk of the film is interveiws with five different characters.  They are all shot with multiple cameras.  I understand how to use the muti-cam editing feature of CS5.5, and it's great.  But, is it possible to create a multi-cam sequence in one project, and then import that sequence into another project, and retain the ability to go back to the multi-cam project and make changes to the edit, and those changes will be automatically updated in the second project?  This seems like it should be possible as it's so similar to the dynamic link feature with After Effects, but it just doesn't seem to work.  After I import the MC edit sequence into a new project it's locked down to the original edit, ie. changes to the original multi-cam sequnece are not updated in the second project.
I know I can do this if I perform all my editing inside one project, but this seems cumbersome.  This file will have so many clips, bins and sub-folders it's going to be hard to keep track of where I'm at. So it seems to me that by breaking this work down into seperate project files, then assembling them into one main edit project just makes more sense.
    Thanks in advance!
    Steve Keller

But, is it possible to create a multi-cam sequence in one project, and then import that sequence into another project, and retain the ability to go back to the multi-cam project and make changes to the edit, and those changes will be automatically updated in the second project?
No, each project is an island. What I mean is that once you import one project into another one, it merges into the "host" project and becomes part of it; all connection to the original project is broken. Sounds like you might be familiar with how Avid works (or used to, maybe? Been awhile.) where a project bin was a standalone file, and if you opened it in another project and made changes, those changes would be made in all projects using the bin/sequence. So, I'm afraid that your proposed workflow won't, well, work.
That said, there's nothing wrong with working on a bunch of individual projects (might be smart, actually), and then merging those in a final assembly project. The same rule applies, though: any changes you make to the original projects won't be made in the host project, so you'll want to save that until finishing.

  • IMovie projects have broken link after I moved file on external hard drive

I have all my iMovie projects on an external hard drive, and it was working fine...until I accidentally broke the links by going into my external hard drive, creating a folder I named "Videos," and dumping the "iMovie Project" folder and the "iMovie Events" folder (which iMovie automatically created for me) into my new folder. I was just trying to consolidate everything into one folder, but that messed everything up. Once I realized what I had done, it would not let me press undo. Then I dragged the iMovie Project folder and the iMovie Events folder back onto the main part where they originally were, and that did not fix it.
Does anyone have any tips on getting my links back? I'd be so appreciative!! I have almost 200 projects of my kids that I can't access now. I have iMovie '11. Thanks so much.

The iMovie projects and iMovie Events folders have to be at the root (top) level of the drive they are on (or at the top level of  the User/Movies folder), otherwise iMovie 9 won't see them.
As long as you have not changed the contents of these folders, if you put them back at a root location they should automatically appear in iMovie.
    Geoff.

  • Can't save iDvD 08 project file

Why cant I save a iDVD 08 project file thats been saved to a DVD? I saved a project file to a TDK DVD (its 2 Gb). I needed the space at the time, now I want to work on it again. When I try to copy it to my hard drive I keep getting an error saying it cant read certain files. Only 2Mb makes it over. I tried the copy/paste and the drag/drop copy ways. Neither works. What gives?
    Ideas?
    Steve

True but it's the necessary approach to saving a project that requires further editing in the future (otherwise original files get moved / assets may change locations and will confuse iDvd)
    Quoting the Help Menu:
    Saving an iDVD project
As you work on your DVD project, you should save it periodically to safeguard your work. When you want to move or back up your finished project to another computer, you can archive it.
Archiving your project creates a copy of the project, keeping all of its elements together and linked within the project file. It can take awhile to archive a large project, but after you do, you can move the file to another computer or hard disk, and then open it at any time for further editing or burning to a DVD.
You can also save your project as a disc image. Saving a disc image of your project means creating a file that is formatted just like a finished DVD, except it’s not actually burned on a disc.

  • Broken Links in RH8 - More Clarification Please

    Dear Experts,
I tried following through the other topics posted relating to this topic, however they all seemed to be different than what i am seeign within my project. I know how to correct borken links (per say) within the folders themselves, however, when in the actual folder "broken links" within the project manager, I cannot seem to delete the links that no longer are needed, or to clearly see if I still need them, its a bit overwhelming, as I moved some information within a project, and (while my application kept crashing - whole different story), each time I re-opened, it didn't seem to clear out the changes I had made through the clear caching as I have as my set up.
Within the PM, if I right click on the broken link, I do not get an option for Explore, I only have the below:
However, when I click on Restore within this dialog box, or even if I select the Show topic Link and try and restore, nothing happens. I tried to fix by going into one of the actual topics and deleting the link and then re-inserting and it and then saving the information, but it still remains. I unfortunately broke the links to actual topics that are utilized throughout the entire project, (like fundamental ones for generic searching and stuff)....so it now created havoc for me, and I just cant seem to get started with just one. I know if I can get one going, I will be able to quickly fix the others, but can't figure it out. (probably right under my nose).

This sounds like there were unsaved changes to your project when the project / PC crashed. As a result RoboHelp has got a bit lost as to what should be there. I think the answer is first of all to close your project backup and then delete your project's cpd file. If the project still displays the broken links, open the individual topic files containing links and ensure they are pointing to the right file. It may be best to reinsert the links. Save as you go and hopefully the broken links will disappear. Let us know how you get on.

  • Delete Broken Links

I would like to know how to delete everything in the broken
links folder. I have a project that has migrated from a Word import
thru a few editors, structure reorganizations, and other nefarious
activities and it is time to clean up the resulting mess. I can't
find a way to just delete the broken links - they no longer
    reference anything in the project.
I can't find a procedure to remove or resolve them - the
broken links are irrelevant. Is there a utility that can just
delete the broken links from the project or edit a file outside of
    the project?

I renamed and rebuilt the .cpd file, came back in, and all

Thanks very much for your quick response! That did the trick!
I made a backup of the *.cpd file, deleted the original,
re-opened RoboHTML and my project, then recompiled it. The few

  • Read and Write iDVD trouble with backed up iDVD project

Hey guys, I need to open an iDVD project file within my time machine backups for a previously existing user on an external backup hard drive.
When I click it to open I get this message: "An error occurred while loading the project. This project seems to be write-protected and can't be opened."
I've tried right clicking on the file, selecting 'Get info' and changing administrators and 'everyone' to read and write but no luck. Any ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Correct.
Now I see I missed the wording of the "file not writeable" message, which doesn't sound like a permissions issue. That sounds like it's either not compatible (ie, not for the same version of iDVD), or corrupted.
If you haven't changed versions, try a +*Verify Disk+* on your internal HD, per #A5 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • Importing a Premiere Pro Project file in AE

    Hi,
I've just finish editing a long feature with Premiere Pro that I've broken down into 10 project files to allow Premiere not to have the memory crash.
Now I'd like to import in AE the project file to be able to do image stabilization on different shot and sky replacement.
    My questions are:
    a) If I import the project files, can I make modifications in AE (like color correction, stabilization, sky replacement,...) then save the project so that it can still be opened in Premiere
    b) Can I recombined my whole feature into one project in AE or the memory won't handle it as Premiere's memory didn't ?
    Thank you.

    > If I import the project files, can I make modifications in

    > then save the project so that it can still be opened in Premiere
You can save a Premiere Pro project from After Effects. See
"Export an After Effects project to Adobe Premiere Pro".
Note that there are several other ways of moving data between After Effects and Premiere Pro, including copy & paste and Dynamic Link. See
"Working with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects".
    > Can I recombined my whole feature into one project in AE

The size of the project doesn't tend to be a problem for After Effects. (Frame size, occasionally; image buffer size, occasionally; but not project size.)

  • Can iDVD projects be saved/viewed on Apple TV?

Hello. Curious if iDVD projects can be saved to Apple TV?
    Thanks,
    Ken

Apparently the answer is No. However you can view the antecedent iMovie project in the form of H.264 according to Winston C. on the AppleTV Forum. In other words, you'd have to finalize the iMovie Project (not the iDvd project file) as follows:
imovie projects need to be finalised as h264 video files so as to be used with the tv. Quite simple really, just share as a movie, choosing the size of movie that suits the source video you have used in the project.
But as suggested above, it's likely a good idea to verify the above info within the proper forum. Those specific links follow:

  • How to delete broken links from robohelp 9

Currently I'm using Robohelp 9, unable to perform following actions in the project:
    1. Permananetly delete broken links from the project.
    2. Updated content and file are shown in search but not in index and in index broken links files are shown.
Kindly tell me how to solve this issue , as my project is too big and unable to delete broken links as they are re-appearing again in the 'broken link' folder after deleted by me.

    Hi Rick/Swaraj,
    Thanks for replying!
I would like to tell you that , I'm using a robohelp 9 project and have generated .CHM file and in the .CHM file all stated errors are showing.
Also , I'm unable to find .XPJ and .CPD files.
Kindly tell me in project where these files are located and if there is any other option to solve the problem?
I didn't find too the repair option , there is a restore option after left click, I'm restoring the broken link and then deleting them. But the deleted files are reappearing in the broken link folder. Kindly tell me is there any option to delete all files from broken link folder as they are not required.

  • IDVD Project Locked. wont let me open.

I recently wiped my partition and reinstalled all my apps.
And when I reloaded the OS I used a different name.
However when I try to open a certain iDVD project I get this message
"The project Bday Pool Party Sleepover 2009

The project can't be opened at this time".
However Im able to open other iDVD projects I created under
the same previous user name but not this one.
And this is my home computer and no one else has access to it.
And I never locked or password protected it in iDVD if thats even possible.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

    To quote Rich839:
I would start with deleting preferences and doing a permissions repair. To delete preferences, close iMovie and trash the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User(the house icon)/Library/Preferences. iDVD will replace that file on relaunch. To do a permissions repair, open Disk Utility found in Applications/Utilities. Select your hard drive icon displayed at the top of the left hand pane, and then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait a few minutes while permissions are repaired, and when finished, launch iDVD and see if you still have the problem.
Last suggestion: Try adding a new user account with the authors name of the original iDvd project file.
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.
