For connections between 10.2 and 9.2 the 9.2 end MUST be at 9.2.0.4 or higher. Connections between 10.2 and 9.2.0.1, 9.2.0.2 or 9.2.0.3 are not supported.
Connections between 10.2 and 9.0.1 was never been supported.

After installing the Oracle9i Application Server ,Oracle8i 1.7 Database,I visit the link"http://localhost" ,then click "Jsever (demo)". Then ,there appears "500 Internal Server err".
The log file:

Oracle10g "Globalization Support restrictions"

hi,
I have problem to create Database name with Spanish character Example: I try to insert “Español”).
I found out at “Oracle® Database Globalization Support Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2)” documents(table2-5) , some restrictions.
“Database name” and “Tablespace” name are supported only with single-byte.
I need to know if the restrictions are relevant to oracle version"Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) Enterprise Standard Edition for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)"

Regarding customizing translations; for OA Framework based applications, translation of personalization can be done either online or through XLIFF. You can generate base XLIFF files from the same screen in which you create the personalization, translate the text using translation tools which support XLIFF, and then upload them to the MDS repository using XLIFF importer. For Forms based applications, there is no method for doing mass translation of Forms personalization. You will need to manually translate the LDT files which contain both the translatable and non translatable attributes. The LDT file can be generated using FNDLOAD. See also Forms Personalization in Oracle Applications (Metalink Doc ID 279034.1).
6. Can the Globalization still work with single/central database hosted in US?
Yes, the database character set determines what characters (language data) can be stored. I recommend going with a Unicode database character set. Oracle's locale sensitive behaviour, such as date & number formatting, collation are all session based; it means that it's possible to have 10 users connecting to one single database, but each user session serving different globalization behaviour.
7. Does the Oracle Locale Builder Tool address Qn#3 above?
The Oracle Locale Builder allows user to define new collation sequences, new languages, new territories and new character set for their database. It affects SQL operations running inside the database only.

I seem to be getting 404's trying to look at admin guides here: Oracle8i Release 8.1.7 Documentation

The broken links on that page and some related Release 8 pages should be fixed now, thanks to the efforts of the documentation production team and the internal OTN support group.
The original problems seemed to occur only with specific PDF links on those release-specific pages. The HTML links worked, as did various "View Library" links (and PDF and HTML links within those libraries). From a check of random PDF links, all the links seem to work fine now.

What are the different aspects of internationalizing these technologies ?

Let me explain this with an example, when we internationalize a database we have to see what would be more appropriate, Unicode enabling, or multibyte enabling. Say if the target application is going to run in English speaking countries only then Unicode enabling would work fine, but if the target markets also include Asian countries where the native language needs double byte enablement, then multi-byte enablement would be more appropriate

I'm trying to install Oracle9 Release 2. So I downloaded all four files from http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/hpsoft.html. Two of them are broken: server_9201_hpunix64_disk2.cpio.gz (648,282,885 bytes)and server_9201_hpunix64_disk3.cpio.gz (538,652,554 bytes).

Creating Database link from Oracle9i to SQL server 2000

Pls how do I create connectivity from Oracle9i database to query a table in an SQL server 2000 database.

There are 2 solutions that you can use:
1) Transparent Gateway for SQL Server
2) Generic Connectivity
Generic Connectivity is free with the database but has less features than the Gateway. For Generic Connectivity you will need to obtain an ODBC driver.
The steps for using the gateway are available in the gateway manual and the steps for using Generic Connectivity is available in Chap 7 of the Heterogeneous Connectivity Administrator's Guide.

Broken links to database stored gif's

I installed 9i AS 1.0.2 for NT and immediately after that the hlw-tutorial files. Now some (not all) links are broken, e.g. in the hlw navigation bar the link to the "home" (http://servername/pls/portal30/docs/249.gif). The file 249.gif is stored in wwdoc_document$ with a pathid of 209. As I didn't find an appropriate table in user_tab_columns resolving the pathid: does anyone know where this pathid is resolved or - even better - what the cause of that error is?

I have the same problem. Without any known reasons the links to many items are broken. These are not only gif-images but all items which are created or linked in a content area. When i click on such a broken link-item the following error-message appears:

Database not supported on oracle9i

Hello,
in our company we use zfd4.01 ir6 and oracle 8 for inventory. All is
working fine. Now we have to upgrade our oracle 8 to oracle 9i. When
inventory starts, we get error 627 - database not supported, even though
novell supports oracle 9i since ir6. Is there any opportunity to solve the
problem?

How to store Video file in Oracle9i database

I am working on Oracle9i Database.
I am using Oracle9i Forms Developer for front end side.
I want to Store a video file in a database table.
I know that there are some data types like BLOB which support such activities but actually i dont know the exact steps of doing this task.
Can anyone guide me in this regard that from where i have to start and how to perform this activity.
