Broken mouse

Suddenly (as of last night) my mouse no longer works properly.
I thought it might be the wireless Logitech Mouse itself at
first. However, I replaced that with the standard iMac mouse,
and still have problems. Right click doesn't work. Hence, I
cannot bring up a contextual menu. Sometimes left click doesn't
even work. When I have my Dock on "automatically hide", putting
the cursor to the bottom of the screen will not bring it up. I've
never seen anything like this before. Anyone with an idea?
Thanks,
Darrell

What touchscreen? It's an iMac...
Sorry I meant touchpad, presuming it was your MacBook you were discussing.
It was the iMac. Sorry if I wasn't clear. At any rate, the
problem seems to be fixed.

  • [SOLVED] Disabling broken mouse button

    Hi all,
I found my mouse button 9 is broken: xev reveals it registers even when not pressed (especially in a naughty day), and my guess is it's the hardware that's stuffed. So, is there a way to tell xorg or whatever to ignore the event? Thanks.

I expect you can use xinput to map that button to nothing.

  • Too much pressure? - broken mouse

Earlier today I had my macbook in my school knapsack while i got on a flight. It was in a separate spot the whole time, but had quite a bit of pressure pushing flat on top of it because the bag was packed. It was probably in there for about 7 hours. Now that I've pulled it out and tried to use it, I find a very strange problem. The keyboard works fine, and the cursor works fine, but the computer doesn't respond when I move the cursor over anything. Also, the mouse click has no effect, probably because the computer doesn't know that the cursor is clicking on the icon. Has anyone had this problem before? Can I fix it? Can a macbook store/genius fix it? Or have I just screwed my computer over?

I tend to put my bag upside down whenever I have my laptop in it so that the weight is never on top of my laptop. My laptop would simply rest on top with the rest.
As for your specific situation, try resetting your Macbook including the SMC (which also controls the system's I/O ports). If not, then you may have to get the keyboard/mouse chassis replaced. That can cost upwards off USD $150, check the Apple Store for exact price.

  • New Imac 20" mouse scroll wheel not working

I just got my imac about 4 months ago and the scroll wheel stop working properly. It will let me scroll down side to side but not back up. Is this something that apple will replace if i take it back to the apple store or am i stuck with a broken mouse.

It can be replaced under the one-year warranty or the iMac it came with, or three years if you have AppleCare.
However, you should try cleaning it. The little rollers under the ball get clogged with gunk and stop working properly.
You can refer to this Apple article.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1537
The way I clean it is with a damp (not wet) lint-free cloth. Fold it over and put it flat on a table or counter top. Holding the mouse up-side-down, roll the ball quickly in all direction on the cloth. Do this for a minute or two. Usually, this will dislodge the accumulated gunk on the internal rollers, and the mouse scrolling will work again.
You may want to do this periodically, even if it appears to be working fine.

  • Mobile wifi mouse back and forward functions don't work

I just bought the hp wifi mobile mouse model MOWFFKUL and back and forward functions don't work and it's driving me crazy. I bought it for these specific functions. At first I thought that it was a broken mouse. So I went and returned it, got back home, and the same thing. I set the side buttons to other functrion options and they work. What the hell??? just the back and forward buttons don't. I'm losing my mind big time because I REALLY NEED those buttons/functions to work!! All the regular top buttons functrion fine, it's only the back forward setting that DOESN't WORK.

I restarted my laptop, and the buttons worked! For only 2 minutes. Then nada ever again. What a POS. Come on HP, give a solution. I bought and returned it twice, which makes this my third wifi mouse. What a waste of my time. I think I'm just gonna return this mouse and forget the wifi mouse. Functionality is more important than a freed up USB port. I bought it for the forward/backward buttons specifically. HP used to make wonderful products, but this experience bring that into question now.

  • Has anyone had trouble with the middle mouse (open in new tab) button lately?

Hi gang. Since v29 came out, I have been having trouble with the middle mouse (open in new tab) button.
Sometimes the button does not register with Firefox. And sometimes FF acts like I pressed it several times.
Has anyone else had any problems? I use an add-on called
    '''''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/mclickfocustab/?src=collection&collection_id=33bf10fa-666d-45a2-9bc9-491ce21671c6 MClickFocusTab]'''''
I disabled it but the problem was still there.

''''' "Sometimes the button does not register with Firefox. And sometimes FF acts like I pressed it several times." '''''
Sounds like a mouse on its' way to mouse-heaven. Seriously, the exact symptoms I have seen with a dozen 3 button mouse's (?meese - ?mice) over the last 15 years. <br />
Not registering a click is usually due to a dirty contact. And the "double-click" is when the flat spring looses tension and bounces.
I have had similar happen with the left button, too. But when it happens to that button it is more noticeable much sooner.
I bought a box of a dozen A4D house branded infrared wireless 3-button mouse's for like $24.00 back in 2000 that were on clearance because the driver disk didn't support W2K, only Win95, 98, and NT4. I got newer drivers from the A4D website and wore all 12 out over the 8 or 9 years. I even fixed a few that broke from the parts from other broken mouse's. I still have 6 or 7 of them laying in the "needs to be fixed" box under my workbench. I'll probably never fix them though, the nano receiver USB mouses I have been using for the 4 or 5 years have much better battery life and lately only need one AA battery.

  • Mouse failing to open folders and files with double click.

Mouse suddenly decided not to open anything with double click. It will highlight with single click but will not open files. Could I have a broken mouse? Could a virus be causing this? I have checked the mouse settings under System preferences and made sure my pc-using children have not set the mouse to second-click status. Any ideas?

Check back in system preferences > mouse > Double-click speed.  Move the slider to the slower end of the scale.

  • Mighty mouse problem

I have a problem using wireless mighty mouse.
My might mouse does not work even if I changed batteries.
I clicked system preference-keyboad & mouse, but there is trackpad instead of mouse.
I installed the sftware of mighty mouse before, and I could use the mouse well.
I did not use mouse when I was in Japan.
After coming back to the U.S., I tried to find my mouse by bluetooth set up assistant; however, I was not able to find mouse that had new battery.
    I use macbook(black) and Mac OS X 10.4.8.
    Does anyone help me?
    Thanks and Regards.

Are you sure you have bluetooth enabled? I would try replacing the batteries again and start from scratch (i.e. turn everything off and then back on again to see if this solves the problem). If this does not solve the problem you may have a broken mouse... I am not sure what the warranty terms are on the mighty mouse, but I am sure if you brought it into an Apple store they could help you out.

  • Replacing the mouse

I have a Touchsmart 320-1150, and have had no problems with it at all.  However, my mouse isn't working properly now, so I need to replace it.  I've done all the cleaning and stuff recommended, but nothing has worked for me.  Unfortunately, I cannot find where the heck it's plugged into the computer.  Dunidar posted a solution for someone about a broken mouse, with pictures of where to find the doogle(?) for it, but the computer wasn't the same model as mine.
Would anyone please be able to show me where to look for it on my own computer?  Any and all help would be gratefully received.  Thanks!

  • Can't see images in any browser

I cannot see any image in any browser if I use a testing
server. I know the server is configured correctly. This site has
been working fine for the last two months, and now since I tried to
install net web developer express edition 5, the site has been
trashed. I was using asp.net, then went to php ( on IIS),
coldfusion, and now asp. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling
dreamweaver. I ried installin gother browsers. I've tried
everything. It's not in the preferences, I don't know where it is.
But I can see them fine, if I remove the testing server, and just
view the pages locally in the browser.
Can someone please tell me what could be causing this. I've
been working on it none stop for three days, and I'm getting very
frustrated. Last night I wanted to throw this computer across the
room. I have to get this finished. Thanks.

broken mouse- sorry for double post.
guess- the paths to the images are site root relative (start
    with a leading
/slash) and the site's local address is to a subfolder (like
    http://localhost/thissite/ )
    if that's it-
fix one- convert all the paths to document relative.
(the pulldown at the bottom of the "Browse to File" dialog
    box in dw)
also- see the relativity extension here:
    http://www.microwaved.plus.com/dw/
    fix method two-
google on "virtual host" for your type of local server. Then
    you could set
up "fake" local domain name for this site- and use
    http://thissite.local and the site
    root relative paths would work.

  • Favicon on MobileMe web site won't display with Safari - OK with Firefox

I have a web site published to MobileME using iWeb - I have added a favicon and updated HTML accordingly. Now after trying every combination of code and searching the Safari, iWeb and MobileMe forums I cannot figure out why my favicon will not display using Safari but will with just about every other browser (Firefox, IE, Netscape are the ones I've tried on a Windows PC - also won't dispaly using Safari for Windows). Any ideas???
I've put the favicon file in the web.me.com/pat.schafer/web/sites folder as well as the web.me.com/pat.schafer/web/sites/sitename folder and added the HTML ref code to every html file - I'm going crazy.

Hi Certified - tried your tips to no avail. I'm beginning to think it's some interaction (bug??) when using a site published to MobileMe (and iWeb?) and Safari. Note I also tried using Windows Safari on a PC which had never viewed the site and it still showed the Apple favico but as previously stated Firefox, and IE on this PC did show my favicon. (I have not tried to load Firefox on my iMac but may try this as well.) I'd try the Apple Support Center but I don't hold up much hope of their being able to assist - I was at the Genius Bar yesterday in the Sydney shop on another matter (broken mouse) and asked about this favicon issue and was told it was beyond the scope of what they can assist with.
Hello Old Toad - thanks anyway for the tip on the OVI slideshow - also thanks to your earlier tips on using OVI I did know about the trick of using a transparent shape but had got around to doing this - I'm still in the early stages of learning using iWeb ... the site in question is just a bit of a "sandbox". In fact I'm pretty much on my way to a bookshop to get a book an HTML and other web design technologies - clearly one must really understand the underlying technology to make these things work.

  • Middle Button Open in New Tab Bug

Like many people, I use the middle button when clicking links to open them in a new tab. In Safari 4.0.1 this feature is buggy. Sometimes it opens a new tab, other times it opens a new tab and the current tab ALSO switches to the clicked link. So you end up with two tabs of the same link. Seemingly at random it will work properly, and then not work.
Note* In order to eliminate the possibility of mouse malfunction, I tested it with firefox and camino. Both opened new tabs 100% of the time with middle clicks of my Logitech G5. Safari opened new tabs without also switching the current tab to the link only around 40% of the time.

  • A look inside the HS-1200 base station

I know curiosity killed the cat but I just can't help it
So from the looks of it the HS-1200 base station runs off the Avnera AudioMagic AV7101 chip.
I have the funny feeling the HS-1200 headset runs off the same thing *I don't have the balls or the time to open it yet*
But so far I'm happy with the headset good range, "more than one wall = bad" clear audio, durable design and no delay.
My only complaint is that after prolonged ware I get some pretty bad ear-burn

The hardware disconnect/connection issue reminds me of my Logitech G5 mouse. The braided cable that is plugged into the USB port had a crimp in it and was pulling in and out of the mouse. This caused constant connection/disconnection. I ended up buying another broken mouse on EBAY and putting the two together.
The other reason for the issue may be that you have too many devices that are drawing a lot of power from the USB ports on your system. Motherboards older than two to three years became way overloaded and that caused the power issue.
Check your USB ports here to see how much each port is drawing:

  • Problem with HP pavilion dv4-1117nr touchpad pointer & key

I was browsing on the internet a few hours ago and all of a sudden it hanged. Tried to shut it down by pressing the power button but it did not work so took off the battery. When I turned it back on, I selected the safe mode. The cursor was moving fine as I used the touchpad but the left key didn't work although the right key worked. So I restarted in the normal mode but the problem persists, & additionally I noted that when the computer is switched on, there is a dotted dragging box (don't know if there's a technical or common name) along the cursor. The kind that happens with left-click and draggin.
I was thinking somehow the touchpad key is jammed but the tapping on the touchpad option is not working either! So it's a left-key mechanism fault as a hole.
Right now I am using an external mouse to work.
Any suggestions that don't involve hardware checking?

Did you find a solution to this.
I suffered a similar problem on my machine
HP pavillion dv4-1100ea s/N: CND8421Lw7 running vista home.
I was using an application and left click stopped working and cimputer was crashed I had to restart a few times before it would run. I have not yet tried a new driver as I personally think it is hardware related. If there is a software bug issue with this I woudl apreciate HP Tech given some feedback on this problem as it does not appear to be a one off.
The most annoying thing is I bought laptop 05/12/2008 and the fault occured 07/12/2009 which is a very annoying I am not sure if anyone will do anything to help or will care!
broken mouse keys used to happen on cheap laptops back in the 95 no excuses really for such and key hardware feature to fail arfter such a short time.
